Lucina separated from Morgan, "Better?" Morgan nodded, "Do you think you can make it back to the village?" Another nod and the two were on their way with Lucina keeping a watchful eye on the young teenager.
"I'm sorry," Morgan murmured as they walked back.
"What for?"
"For letting you get hurt before. For failing again. For making you save me. I shouldn't have run off alone, but I wanted to prove that I could handle myself," Morgan scoffed, "Guess I proved hat wrong."
"Morgan," Lucina looked at the girl unsure of how to proceed, "Morgan, do not be so hard on yourself. No one so young should be forced to take up arms."
"You did."
"Yes, I did, and it is a fate I would not wish upon my…you."
They walked in silence for a moment longer before Lucina thought of something that might cheer the girl-her daughter up, "It may complicate things if you did so in public, but when it is just the two of us, you could…call me…mother. If you'd like."
Morgan looked to her mother with shock, "Y-you mean it? You would be okay with that?"
"It…may take some adjusting, but, it would be acceptable."
Despite her somewhat cold phrasing, Morgan was delighted, "Mother!" She cheered giving her another hug, "Does this mean we can start being a family? Me, you, and father!"
"Er," Lucina pried her daughter off of her, "Not…quite. I am…we are…not exactly…together."
"What?" Morgan stopped, "But you said I could call you mother."
"I know, but that does not mean that your father and I are romantically involved."
"But…you love him, right?"
"I…don't know."
"Oh," Morgan's face fell momentarily, but she quickly put up her old cheerful expression, "Don't worry! You two will be head over heels for each other in no time!"
"Morgan," Lucina said slowly, "Are you planning on intervening again?"
"What would give you that idea?" Morgan's smile never left her face.
"Morgan," Lucina sighed, "Just, please, don't rush us. Let us figure this out without having you trying to push us together."
Morgan took her turn to sigh, "I'm not sure that I can help myself though! Not only are you my parents, you're so cute together!"
"M-Morgan!" Lucina blushed fiercely, "A-anyway, I would like to check something when we get back to port."
"Oh?"
"Yes. You know the brand in my left eye?"
"Yeah."
"You should have one yourself as proof of your lineage. Please forgive me, but I would like to make sure."
"R-right," So she was not fully convinced, but this was definitely progress in their relationship. Though, where was Morgan's brand?
Morgan sat on her bedroll that night in a mild panic. She had searched for her brand, but she could not find it. She was worried. What if she did not have a brand? Lucina was her mother, and she knew it. But where was the proof?
"Ngh," Morgan felt a familiar pang of pain in her head.
"Mother," Morgan pulled on her mother's skirt.
"Yes, sweetie?" Lucina knelt down.
"What is that symbol in your eye?"
"Hmm? I suppose you are old enough to know now. It is called the Brand of the Exalt. It is something passed down through our family. It serves as proof of our family and their pact with Naga. You have one as well."
"I do? Where?"
Lucina smiled, "Come with me." Her mother took her by the hand and led her to her and Robin's bedroom. She pulled a hand mirror out of a drawer and placed Morgan in front of a full-body mirror. Lucina pulled the back of Morgan's collar down a bit and held the mirror so that Morgan could see.
"I see it!"
"No matter where you are, this is a reminder of where you come from as well as our bond, and it is proof that you are descended from heroes."
Morgan looked her mother in the eye, "Really? Cool! But you and daddy are still my favorite heroes!"
Lucina smiled at her daughter.
Morgan tentatively moved her hand over the spot where her brand was, "Mother."
"Lucina!" Morgan ran up to her excitedly the next morning, "Look!" Morgan turned around and pulled down the back of her collar.
Lucina looked at the girl's neck. Sure enough, there was the brand.
Lucina pulled moved the girl's hand releasing the fabric covering the brand once again.
"You should be careful about letting anyone see this."
"Huh? Why?"
"I have not exactly told your father or mine that you are my daughter. I would rather they not find out by accident."
"Oh, okay."
Lucina sighed, "I really don't know what I'm doing here, Morgan. Please excuse me if I make mistakes."
"That's okay, mother. I'm sure you'll be a great mother!"
Lucina smiled at her…daughter's confidence. Perhaps she could do this after all.
