Chapter 14
Hiccup who was now standing on Anna's front porch began to argue with himself. It had taken all his courage to go over but he had to make sure that Anna was ok. He began to worry when no one answered the front door so he tried to peak in thru the window only to realize the shutters Elsa's mom had recently put up were closed.
He knocked on the door again this time a bit harder. All he got for his trouble was a throbbing fist, "Damn." He was about ready to leave but then something forced him to turn back around. "To hell with it" He reached for the doorknob and twisted it and gave the door a small push, to his surprise it wasn't locked. He took a step back unsure of whether to head in or not. He finally made up his mind to go in "Here goes..." He stepped into the house expecting to find Anna in the living room finishing up her algebra homework for school tomorrow. When he didn't see her he suddenly got this gut-wrenching feeling in the pit of his stomach that something was wrong. His imagination was starting to run wild now.
"Elsa? Anna?" He continued to call to them as he crossed over into the kitchen, they weren't in there either so he slowly made his way up the stairs leading to the girl's rooms. His heart was beating faster with each step and his breathing hitched as he felt the sudden drop in temperature "Great Odin's ghost, it's freezing up here..." He muttered to himself frantically searching around for the switch. "Ok guys this isn't funny." He called out thinking this was probably all a trick just to scare him "if you're playing a game with me then haha the jokes on me..." He reached for the hallway light and the single bulb overhead flickered on.
That's when he saw Anna lying helplessly on the floor with what appeared to be a stab wound right above her abdomen area. blood caked all over her shirt.
"No, No, No!" He bolted forward and fell to his knees, quickly checking her pulse to see if she was breathing. Her pulse was faint but Hiccup thanked Odin that she had one at all.
"C'mon Anna wake up" Removing his coat he wrapped it around her body and held her close to his chest thinking if he just talked to her to let her know he was there she would fight to keep herself alive. "Listen to me open your eyes. Your not gonna die yet I won't let you" He cradled her in his arms and held on tightly afraid if he let go then SHE'D let go and he wasn't prepared to let that happen.
"C'mon you can't do this. You can't die on me... Anna!" He got no reaction out of her and without thinking he caressed her cheek though his hand was covered with blood. Her blood. "You Just can't..." He choked out. The anticipation for him was more than he could stand as he waited for her to answer him.
A sense of relief slowly washed over him when she finally DID open her eyes. The weak smile she gave when she looked up at him was one he felt he didn't deserve. "H-Hiccup..."
"I'm here," he said forcing himself to smile "I'm here..." he repeated though much softer this time. "Anna where's Elsa?" He stroked her hair as she struggled to talk "T-They took her..." She mumbled, "I tried to stop them but..." Her eyes were slowly beginning to close again. For fear that he'd never see her smile or hear her laughter again, he started shouting "No! No don't do that, Anna look at me keep your eyes open...Anna!" The tears were threatening to spill down his face as he gently sat her up
"C'mon Anna you can do it. Now tell me WHO took Elsa?" He asked taking her hand, she gave it a light squeeze though Hiccup could see even doing THAT was hurting her. "T-They didn't say." She finally said, "Just promise me one thing..."
"Anything..."
"F-Find Elsa..."
"Just leave it to me" He found himself saying "I'll bring her home. I promise" Anna nodded "Good" And passed out in his arms, Hiccup began to cry as he vowed to make whoever had done this pay.
Jack's words suddenly ran thru his head and he looked up in shock "No, he couldn't have..." he replayed their phone conversation in his head once more and convinced himself that Jack was behind what had happened to Anna, "That fuckin bastard! I'll make him pay for what he's done!" clenching both fists in anger he slammed his left knuckle into the wall beside him before calming himself down enough to fish for the phone in his pocket. He dialed 911 and frantically told them all they needed to know before hanging up.
As he waited, he vowed that when he saw Jack winters again he'd kill him. He didn't care who got in his way Jack winters would die by his hands.
He had his eyes closed as he plotted out his revenge so he didn't notice when the paramedics finally came. It took one of them putting a hand on his shoulder to get him to snap back into reality. He ended up riding in the back with her the whole way praying she'd make it and thankfully she did. She was now resting peacefully in ICU.
The nurse urged Hiccup to go home and get some sleep but he refused claiming how Anna needed him, though the head nurse kept trying to push him he pushed back refusing to leave. "I'm gonna stay here until she wakes up" He'd said putting as much authority into his words as possible he wanted them to know he was serious, the nurse eventually gave in and Hiccup ended up staying by her bedside the entire night, though he didn't get an ounce of sleep he was to worried that something would happen to her while she slept so he kept watch over her like he knew Toothless would do with him if he'd ever gotten hurt. He just wanted to make sure Jack didn't come back to finish what he started and if he did he'd be ready.
He was now playing with a fireball that had formed above his palm. He loved the way it crackled and licked at the oxygen in the air it was somewhat soothing to him, he didn't stay tranquil for long. He soon got to thinking about Jack again and his thoughts began to get out of control. Suddenly the entire room was engulfed in flames though he quickly came back to his senses and willed the fire to disappear.
"Shit, what the hell did I almost do?" He thought to himself, he quickly got to his feet he needed to get out of that room for a minute to recollect himself. "I'll be back in a bit Anna. I promise." leaning over her sleeping form he kissed her forehead and headed out the door trying to force himself to calm down if he didn't he would end up burning the whole building down.
"Get it together" He kept shouting to himself, "Remember what happened last time you..." He immediately blocked that memory from his mind and mentally slapped himself "Stupid me. this isn't like last time..."
"Um Excuse me..."
He could feel the fire snaking around his arm "Shit, No...No, No!" He was trying his best to make it disappear but it ended up spreading to his other arm and he started panicking.
"Hey, are you ok!"
Without thinking he whirled around, his arms flaying around like a fish out of water as he tried to make it all go away. He ended up striking the nurse across the cheek. She screamed and fell down dropping the clipboard in her hand.
Realizing what he'd done, he gazed at his hands in shock "No..." The Nurse who was holding onto the place he'd struck her was staring at him as if he was a cold-blooded monster.
"I- I'm sorry I didn't..."
He reached out a hand to help her up but she screamed again "No, get away from me don't touch me!" She began screaming for help, Hiccup grew fearful and ran off in the other direction he had to find someplace to hide until he calmed himself down and he knew just where to go.

when Elsa awoke after what seemed like days the first thing she did was look around she was no longer in her house but in an unfamiliar room, made of pure concrete. The only thing there was a steel table and chair. She attempted to stand but grew frantic when her legs which felt like jelly buckled from underneath her. "No...no!" She wanted to run back to her sister and hug her, to tell her how everything was alright and how she was sorry she had failed so miserably to protect her. "What good are these stupid powers if I can't protect the ones I love!" She thought bitterly as she attempted to stand back on her feet. Her frustration was beginning to grow as each attempt to stand failed.
Never in her life had she felt so useless. Here she was in this strange place, alone, confused, and unable to walk it was beyond frustrating. Quickly trying to think of an idea she looked around the room and crawled over to a steel table, "C'mon Els, you can do this" She said to herself as she attempted to pull herself up it took her a few minutes but eventually she was able to walk on her own that was when she realized she wasn't the only one in the room. There in the corner lay a young boy around her age his hair was a pitch-black color and there was a scar going across his left eye.
She hesitantly made her way over to him and got on her knees "Hey" She gently nudged him "Hey, are you alive?" She asked, he didn't move. Elsa didn't know what to do should she wait until he woke up on his own or should she attempt to revive him?
Suddenly getting an idea she stood up, strolled over to the steel table, and picked up a piece of stale bread before putting it back down and grabbing a glass of still water instead "This will help" She thought, bringing it over to the fallen boy.
Gently placing his head on her lap she brought the cup up to his lips her heart sinking as it seeped out from the sides, Elsa gave an exasperated sigh "Come on now, you gotta get up."
No response and all she could do was sit there and let her mind go back to a time when she and Anna were just kids. It made her so happy yet sad at the same time. What if she never saw her sister again? What if her sister died and she didn't even know it.
"No. I will NOT think that way!" Elsa argued with herself "She's fine and I'm gonna make my way back to her. even if it kills me" Laying her head against the cold hard wall she let herself drift off into a dreamless sleep. She didn't know how long she'd been out before her eyes fluttered open and she saw the boy sitting beside her his eyes containing nothing but utter confusion.
She opened her mouth to say something but all that came out was a weak "Hello..."
"Hi," The boy said grinning back, "Are you the one who was calling me?" He inched closer to her making Elsa feel incredibly nervous "Y-Yeah why do you ask..." The boy just shrugged "Just wondering, so anyway what's a girl like you doing in a place like this?"
"I wish I knew myself. Those bastards just kidnapped me and I don't know why" Elsa replied back, the boy then scoffed as he leaned up against the wall and folded his arms over his chest "You must be pretty special for them to go to all that trouble." He said as he looked her over "So what exactly can you do?" He asked.
Elsa began playing with her hair. It was something she did when she was nervous, the boy obviously didn't know about boundaries as he was now inches from her face and sniffing at her neck.
Not knowing what else to do she pushed him away "That's none of your business now is it?" She snapped, the boy didn't seem phased by her cold attitude all he did was shrug "Fine don't tell me. I was just curious but if your gonna act all stuck up about it then I don't wanna know." He turned his back to her and retreated to the area she'd found him passed out at.
"But I'll tell you something. I'd lose the attitude if I were you, that's not gonna get you anywhere here."
"And where exactly is HERE?" Elsa asked curiously.
"Can't tell you." He retorted back, Elsa watched with interest as he leaned against the wall and let himself slide comfortably down on the floor "Cause to tell you the truth I don't even know myself. All I know is, they don't treat you like your human here, far from it..." He closed his eyes and trailed off as if he'd fallen asleep but Elsa wasn't fooled.
"And..."
"And what?" He asked opening one eye, "What else do they do?" She asked. The boy could tell she was growing incredibly nervous so rather than try and scare her he closed his eye and turned his head in the other direction "I prefer not to talk about it. Now let me sleep" Was all he said, within minutes he was snoring peacefully. In truth, Elsa was envious of him "How could he fall asleep so fast?" She wondered "Oh well..." She leaned against the wall and let her mind wander to what had become of her sister.
"God Anna please be ok" She prayed "Please. I'd never forgive myself if your not." Her eyes suddenly shot open and she gazed over at the boy who at this point was snoring softly.
It had just occurred to her that she hadn't gotten his name, she debated on going over and waking him up just to ask him but decided against it. She soon grew bored and started playing with a snowflake she'd created out of thin air. She loved how it danced and glimmered underneath the single light bulb that shined overhead.
"So that's your power huh?"
Startled, she dropped her hand causing the snowflake to disappear. She shoved her hands behind her back and looked down in embarrassment "Yeah it is, I was born like this, and I never understood why." She was playing with her fingers now, it was something she did out of habit when she was nervous "All I knew was that I was different, the other kids knew it to and would use every opportunity they got to torment me because of my powers..." She could tell the boy was hanging on her every word, it made her feel good to meet someone who actually listened for a change instead of constantly making jokes and never taking anything seriously.
"I know the feeling." The boy replied sullenly "I was constantly picked on because of what I am, never being able to just be a normal kid like everyone else. You'd think my foster parents would attempt to understand what I was going thru, but in truth, they didn't. they didn't give a damn about me Instead I was locked away for 15 years by a mother and father who treated me like a prisoner more than a son. Then when I finally turned 17 they sold me...Like a god damn animal..."
Elsa felt her heart going out to the boy, "I'm so sorry..."
"Ah Forget about it." He replied, "It's all in the past. What matters now is I'm breaking out of here first chance I get" He turned his back to her, though he still felt Elsa's eyes boring into him.
"Hey" He suddenly felt her hot breath in his ear and jumped up, "Agh Don't do that!" He yelled trying to shake off the shivers going down his spine, he'd never had a girl so close to him before and he hated how his body was reacting.
Elsa looked down apologetically "Sorry I just...well I just wanted to know..."
"Know what?" he asked curiously, Elsa began playing with a strand of her hair "Not to sound rude or anything but I'm curious. You said you were living with foster parents. whatever happened to your real parents..."
"I don't know and I don't care" He snapped angrily, Elsa flinched back but remained quiet. She knew that she'd just stuck her foot in her mouth and she felt really bad about it. "Sorry," She said again "Really- Really sorry..."
Seeming to have calmed down slightly the boy moved away from the wall he was leaning on and went over to where Elsa was standing. "You wanna know the real reason my foster parents hated my guts?" before Elsa could answer he took hold of her arm and pulled her down with him as he sat back on the ground. Elsa tried to protest, but he put a finger to his lips and silenced her "You'll see..."
Elsa watched as he closed his eyes, he seemed to be in total concentration so Elsa kept quite trying to figure out what exactly he was doing. She got her answer when his eyes shot open, they had changed to a dark red color and his pupils had narrowed like a cat does when they're ready to pounce. In truth, Elsa wasn't to sure what to think of his 'demon eyes' and the dark aura now surrounding him.
The boy looked over at Elsa curiosity etched onto his pale white face "Your not afraid...Are you?" He gave her a playful grin but Elsa could tell he was being dead serious.
"No, Not at all." She said eyeing his narrow tail which was razor-sharp on the tip. "I think it's actually pretty fascinating."
"Oh Really now. I'm a half-human half-demon and you find that fascinating?"
"In truth. I do." Elsa shot him a smile but he scoffed "Whatever" and headed back over to his spot, he did a small circle before sitting down and closing his eyes again but Elsa wasn't prepared to let him go to sleep just yet "I have one more question to ask. Where you born this way or cursed?"
"I was born like this..." He said without opening his eyes "That's all you need to know now goodnight..."
"G-Goodnight..." She murmured softly "Oh Yeah before I forget. What's your name" Elsa suddenly blurted. The boy huffed in agitation "boy I saw that one coming, Alright I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours" Elsa's eyes went to the floor as she fidgeted nervously "It's Elsa Anderson"
"Nice to meet you, Elsa." He turned to face her as he said his name "My Names Jim...Jim Hawkins..."
000000000000000
"Hello...Hello! Jack are you there? answer me!?" He couldn't though, Jack was in total shock. He'd called Elsa cellphone to set up their date but when she didn't answer he figured she must be busy and rather than wait he dialed Anna's number who gave him the entire story.
"how could this happen?" He kept thinking "HOW!?" and right under his nose too, he'd been so busy planning dragon boys downfall that he failed to realize how Elsa had stopped attending school, now it all made sense. "Damit!" He kicked the coffee table beside him, "God Els, I hope your ok...you have to be..." It just occurred to him then.
He was Actually worried about someone other than himself. "Oh Els, look what you're doing to me..." He let himself fall onto the couch, he didn't know what else to do but put his head in his hands "No!" He suddenly found himself saying "I won't sit here wondering what happened to her. I'm gonna go out and FIND her. It's time for some action damnit!" He got to his feet and headed for the door but it slammed open before he could grab the knob. A thin, lanky looking man with pitch-black eyes and slick dark black hair came slinking in ignoring the woman behind him who was ordering him to slow down. "Hello, Jack..." Disdain clearly evident in his voice.
"Welcome Home father" He gave a mock bow and swallowed back the vile forming in his throat.
"So Jack, what have you been up to this entire time?" His mother asked shooting him a fake smile "You look absolutely exhausted darling." Jack knew though his mother was trying so hard at pretending to care about him he knew she didn't. This was just another performance from a great actor.
"Actually I feel fine..."
"Jack come with me" His father interrupted "We need to talk." This had been what he was afraid of though he didn't protest he followed his father upstairs and into his private office. He shut the door slowly behind him, but when he turned around he found himself being shoved against the door his father glaring daggers at him "You stupid boy, I should disown you here and now!"
He shoved the paper he'd been holding in his hands into Jacks's face "My company's stocks are down if this keeps us I'll lose everything I've worked for and it'll be all your fault!" He Jabbed a finger in Jack's direction.
Jack rolled his eyes and stuffed his hands in his pockets "Pfft like I give a shit about your god damn company..."
Without warning Pitch struck his son in the face, both fists clenched in anger "I'm going to make you pay for your insolence." He took a hold of Jack's shirt collar and shoved him against the wall again, raising a fist prepared to beat him senseless. Imagine his surprise when instead of seeming fearful Jack started laughing. This angered Pitch further.
"Finally a threat you've attempted to follow thru on" Jack smirked, wiping the blood away from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand "I was beginning to think you were going soft old man." He spit on the floor earning him a dirty look from Pitch.
"Get out of my damn sight" He growled turning his back to him, "I'm sick of looking at you."
Jack couldn't help it then he just snapped "Right back at ya...Father" Before Pitch could react jack was already headed out the door. he brushed past Tabitha on his way downstairs but ignored her. He just snatched his keys from the counter and headed out. He was planning to talk with Anna, he needed to know exactly what had happened so he could find Elsa and bring her home.
"Don't worry Els, I'll find you. I swear on my life, I won't rest until I bring you home..."
