Lady Miss Fortune 13: "The Other Chat"

Yeah ya know how the cover art is black now? It used to be pink ):S
I thought I should go out of my comfort zone because...ya know...LIKE MOST OF MY COVER ARTS HAVE BLACK BACKGROUNDS...so I was like "Imma do something different."
No. Just no. It looked awful. It was like torture for your eyes. I took one look at that and was like "yeah I'm gonna convert that to black and grey." So REEEEEE sorry for everyone who had to lay eyes on the bullcrap.
Don't worry though because I'm redoing the cover art either way XP

Ladybug used her yoyo to keep the akumas back, panting. The small blackish-purple glowing butterflies surronded her, as if beckoning for her to join them. The red-clad superhero paused, pushing another one back with her heel.
Why aren't they akumatizing me? Why aren't they akumatizing anyone?! There's thousands of them! Surely Hawk Moth must see the potential?
It just didn't add up: Hawk Moth wouldn't do something unnecessarily. Maybe this was part of a mission gone wrong? But then, wouldn't Hawk Moth have called off the akumas?
What's the point of having akumas, if they aren't akumatizing anyone?! Ladybug thought, shoving back another group with her elbow. The akumas were slowly closing in on her, but Ladybug used her yoyo to seperate them, buying herself more time. Ladybug gasped, noticing that more and more akumas were joining the group that was already there.
Ladybug's heart pounded inside of her. Were they going to akumatize her again after all? Desperate, Ladybug swung her yoyo around, but it did nothing to break up the group of akumas. They stayed glued to one another's side, staring at her intently. Soon, akumas were surronding her, to the point where Ladybug couldn't see anything but akumas.
"Get...get away from me!" Ladybug growled, swatting at the akumas. To her surprise, the akumas actually did go away, flapping away into the night.
Ladybug panted, "What...what just...?" She didn't understand. Nothing made sense. Since when did akumas actually listen to their enemies?!
Something isn't right...
Was the butterfly Miraculous somehow broken?
If it was, then there would be absolutely no way for him to create that many akumas. Marinette thought. Hawk Moth could barely create one akuma, let alone thousands.
What am I missing?
Ladybug's phone rang, "Chat! Where have you been?! We're still meeting back at my parents' bakery, yes?"
"Wait a sec, Ladybug-" The audio cut out, replaced by static, "-There's a" The audio cut out, "Forget about- SKRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!" The rest was static.
"Chat?! Chat!" Ladybug shook the phone.
"-I'm fine, it's just- SKRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR- and most importantly, don't ever- SKRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!" The audio came back on, "I have a plan! Just like I said, DO NOT-SKRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!" There were sounds of glass shattering and metal clinking.
THUMP!
"Holy crap, is that thing still on?! Gimme that you stupid little-" Ladybug heard someone say, although she couldn't really make out who it was, since their voice was so similar to Adrien's. More random thudding sounds followed, and then a long beep, signaling that the call had been over.
"...CHAT?!" Ladybug asked.
CALL HAS BEEN ENDED.
Ladybug dialed his number.
"Pick up Adrien, pleeaaaase..."
"Hello!"
Ladybug let out a sigh of relief, "Adrien!"
"...You have reached Adrien Agreste's voice mail!"
Ladybug groaned.
"I'm probably busy right now, sorry for the wait! Leave me a message after the beep! Thanks! *BEEP*"
"Ugh, just call me back as soon as you can, okay?"
She tried again.
"Hello! You have reached Adrien Agreste's-"
Again.
"...I'm probably busy right now-"
And again...
"...Leave a message-!"
And again...
"...After the beep-!"
Ladybug frowned, "Maybe he'll answer if I call his baton!":
"Chat got your tongue? Leave a message!"
"His baton isn't working either?! Why won't he just answer?!" Ladybug growled. Making sure no one would see her, she ducked behind a tree.
"Tikki, spots off."
"What just happened?!" Marinette whispered.
"I don't know, but we should find Chat as soon as we can." Tikki said uneasily.
"Yeah. I'm going to see if he went to the bakery...it's 12:30, so he should be there..."
"...in theory." Tikki finished. "I just hope he didn't get into any trouble with Hawk Moth."
"Me too. Tikki, spots on!" Ladybug scurried past a lamppost, quickly finding her way to the bakery.
"Heyo, mind if I, 'drop in'?" Chat swung down from the roof of the building.
"Chat?! Where were you? The phone call-"
Chat laughed, "some akumas decide to cause a little bit of mischief...but nothing Chat can't handle, right?"
"Oh...hehe...yeah..." Ladybug mentally scolded herself for worrying so much.
"Don't worry, I taught them who was boss. Come on now, let's go fight some more akumas!"
"Wait, fight them?" Ladybug asked, "But they aren't even hostile! Er, towards me, they're not. But we don't even know Hawk Moth's motive. What if we accidentally make the akumas hostile?!"
Chat shook his head, "You can't make akumas hostile. An akuma only follows orders from whoever the current butterfly Miraculous holder is."
"Hm...we need to get a better view of everything that's happening. Let's go onto the roof of the bakery."
"'Kay, works with me." Chat agreed.
Ladybug reached the top of the bakery, looking up. She furrowed her brow, "Where are all the akumas?!"
"Beats me." Chat shrugged.
Ladybug squinted, spotting a few in the distance. They seemed the be fleeing the premises.
"Why are they retreating?!"
"I dunno, maybe Hawk Moth just doesn't want a fight today."
Ladybug shook her head, "Hawk Moth does everything for a reason. If the akumas did nothing, then, why did he have them invade the city?! They did nothing else but distract us..." Ladybug's eyes widened, repeating the words, "He wanted to distract us. It was never about the akumas."
Chat Noir laughed awkwardly, "Look, I have no idea where you're going with this crazy theory, but-"
Ladybug's phone buzzed, "What's this? A news alert?":
"Don't be bemused, it's just the news! I'm back with another update about Paris' akuma situation! Oddly enough, all the akumas are fleeing! However, some citizens have noticed suspicious activity involving these akumas. Another akumatized victim?! We don't know, but the streets of Paris aren't seeming that safe anymore."
Ladybug swallowed hard.
"Come on, Ladybug. We should get going. Another akumatized villain could be danger. I wouldn't want you to get hurt." Chat reached for her hand, holding it gently.
Ladybug blinked at him. His emerald eyes looked colder than before as he stared into the distance, his gaze dark. His voice had an edge to it, and no matter how sweet he acted...
And that was when she knew: this wasn't her Chat.
"It's you." Ladybug gasped, "You're the only one who Hawk Moth was targeting. It all makes sense. That's why he sent the akumas to distract everyone."
Chat's eyes rounded in alarm, "Ladybug, I really don't-"
"The Chat I know would risk his own life for the good of Paris. He would have suggested that we'd stay out here, in search of suspicious activity. The real Chat, wouldn't chicken out. Ever. So tell me, who are you? And what have you done with the real Chat?!"

BEFORE YOU GET MAD AT ME
A COUPLE OF THINGS:
1. This is still a Marinette angst fic. The point of focus/person that needs saving will not randomly switch to Chat...I know it doesn't really make sense, but trust me. (Plus, I already have an Adrien angst fic :P)
2. It won't be cliche. Yeah...exactly how many times has Adrien/Chat been saved by Marinette/Ladybug? Waaaay too many to count. But in relation with the first thing, he technically WON'T be saved by Marinette. If anything, she'll make it worse.
Oh, and a hint for the next chapter:

Another thing:
Akumatized Marinette wasn't called Princess Justice for a reason. It wouldn't really make sense, because she was trying to get revenge, not justifying that she was right. Plus, sometimes the akumatized victims have more than one akumatized name. (ie, Bubbler and Shell Shock, Volpina and Chameleon)
