(Author's Note: Hey! It's the Mime here. Or Zach as you already know my real name. So here's what's been going on since last time this story was updated. Me and the other Animaniacs arrived in a big city. We didn't do much. We just walked and talked. Walked and talked. Walked and talked. Boring! However during our adventures, the other Animaniacs such as Rita and Runt, the Goodfeathers and the Hippos were having their own adventures, and you guessed it, the shadows began to haunt them. And no, they are not filler chapters. They do have something to do with all of us. Just like our TV show, there are segments that you might have to sit through, but there is a connection. A very special connection that binds our stories into one. Read carefully since there is a lot that goes on while we were on our quest to find the crystal and save all our friends such as the real Dr. Otto, Brain, and our friends from the forest.)Rita and Runt
Rita opened her eyes as she was struggling to get up. The fall she had was very nasty. Cats would land on their feet, but not this time. Rita was careless. The fall was too much. As she got up, Runt ran to her.
"Rita! Rita are you okay?!" cried Runt.
"Runt... behind you!" cried Rita. Runt turned around and a dark wolf like shadow appeared with razor sharp teeth.
"Run for it!" cried Rita.
"Ahhh!" Rita woke up screaming. Runt, who was next to her also woke up.
"Hey! Hey what was that!" cried Runt.
"I just had a dream. A really bad one." said Rita.
"I knew watching that horror movie at the drive in theater was a bad idea." said Runt.
"Runt honey, that was you. You had the bright idea." said Rita.
"Oh. Oh yeah I forgot!" said Runt with that goofy smile of his. Rita yawned and walked towards a mirror that was standing against a tree. Slappy Squirrel gave both Rita and Runt one of her tree houses for them to have as a home. Eversince they met on set for the TV Show, Slappy quickly became friends with Rita and helped her and Runt out. That was very rare for her since Slappy was a grouch. But she wasn't all bad. Rita looked at Runt who was standing up and yawning loudly.
"Do you think we'll go back to filming more episodes? I think the show is ending soon." said Runt.
"Didn't you hear? We don't have our segments anymore on the show. Only season one has our skits. We only appear in what? Music segments and small cameos." said Rita.
"Yet they pay us nicely." said Runt.
"Thank goodness for that. Yakko, Wakko and Dot argued with the directors about keeping us in and paying us. They are good bosses I'll give them that." said Rita.
"And we got a home!" cried Runt.
"Yeah. We do. For now." said Rita.
"For now?" asked Runt.
"Well... Runt there's something I got to tell you. I think now is the best time." said Rita.
"What's going on?" asked Runt, feeling anxious.
"Runt we've been friends for a long time. Even before the show even began, we were both animals living in the street. And ever since we became friends we have been through a lot. But... how can I put this..." Rita was about to say.
"What's going on? Are you... your not thinking of leaving?" asked Runt.
Rita nodded and Runt shook his head. "But why? We're friends Rita." said Runt.
"We are. But we can't be together right now. It's complicated." said Rita.
"Why is it complicated? Is it because I'm stupid?" asked Runt.
"No! Not at all bud! It's just that... your a dog, and I'm a Cat." said Rita.
"Cat?! Where is the cat?!" cried Runt, looking around hysterically. Rita shook her head. "Exactly." she said.
"What?" asked Runt.
"Runt... I'm a cat. Don't you see the pointy ears of mine? The tail, the body? It's so obvious I'm a cat!" said Rita.
Runt looked at Rita and his jaw dropped. "Your a dog pretending to be a cat?! That's funny!" cried Runt.
Rita had just enough of this.
"Runt... Gosh... I want to leave and have a life of my own and I can't leave you alone! If I do what will happen to you? Geez louis man." said Rita.
"But why go and have a life? We got eachtother don't we?" asked Runt. Rita smiled and walked up to Runt. And then she slapped him. Using her cat claws.
"Oww! That hurts... and ... gosh! You really are a cat! Only cats have knife like claws!" cried Runt.
"Now you see?! I can't believe it took a scratch to get you to notice!" said Rita.
"Rita... I'm so sorry! I didn't know you were really a cat! All those things I said about cats too... Rita I'm sorry! And now I see it! You do have he ears and the tail... what the heck was wrong with me!" cried Runt.
"Runt honey... now you know why I have to move on?" asked Rita.
"I don't get why you want to leave me though. It is because of the things I said before? About cats?" asked Runt.
"No Runt. It has nothing to do with that. It's just that... " Rita couldn't find the words. She didn't want to tell Runt the truth. The real truth she didn't want to be with Runt now.
Deep down, she fell deeply in love with the mutt. Rita loved Runt because of who he was, a kind and considerate dog that didn't harm a fly, and Rita enjoyed every moment with him. But there was a problem. She was a cat. He was a dog. This type of romance was very... .taboo. Expecially back in 1996. Rita had to follow traditions and she had to leave Runt. But deep down, she didn't want to leave him.
"Rita... talk to me." pleaded Runt sadly with his ears lowered. As Rita was about to say something, a dark shadow materialized from the ground. A wolf like creature appeared before them and revealed it's horrible fangs.
"Runt... run!" cried Rita looking at the wolf like shadow. Runt ran for it, going to the trees while Rita stayed behind with her claws in place.
"What are you?" she cried. She saw the exact same wolf in her dreams.
"I am a Wendigo of sorrow my pet. I have come from beyond to take away what you have." It sneered.
"What?" asked Rita.
"You have something I need Rita. The bond with you and Runt. You see... your bond will give my master the power to..."
"Shut up!" screamed Rita.
The shadow looked at her with it's savage red eyes.
"I don't care what you are and what you think you are. If your here to fight, then just say it! Don't make a stupid monolouge about it!" cried Rita.
The shadow wolf snarled and then out of the blue, Runt appeared and pushed the wolf by charging his head against it.
"Runt!" cried Rita.
"Well what are you waiting for? Run for it!" cried Runt.
