The Breakdown
Chapter 12-Wolf
Of all the crew members, Wolf didn't know Mike well, so when news of his attempted suicide came, neither he or Azima were terribly shocked. They both knew the man had been through hell. Wolf had prided himself on flying under Mike's radar. He didn't necessarily need to be mentored and made a point not to break the rules. Mike didn't do many away missions, even though he was quite good in the field, because he couldn't turn his detective mind off. Wolf had actually learned a lot from him. How to observe and listen. In retrospect, Wolf wished he had learned more.
He also knew about Maddie, because she and Azima were friends. He didn't exactly respect Mike for how he had treated Maddie, but he also knew that any new relationship would be painful for him. Azima had also told him about the baby, and he had to wonder how Mike would react. It wouldn't be easy for him. Wolf purposely hadn't written Mike a note of encouragement, mostly because of how he had acted with Maddie. One afternoon, Azima came home and gave him a kiss.
"I had lunch with Maddie Rawlins today." Azima said as she sat down on the couch next to him.
"Good. How is she?" Wolf asked as he muted the TV, knowing Azima would want to talk.
"She is good. Admiral Slattery knows of the baby. The doctor took him to one of her doctor's appointments. He got to hear the heartbeat and everything. Once he's released, he'll be moving in with her. He's really excited about the baby." Azima answered.
"That's kind of surprising. I didn't think he wanted people to know about their relationship?" Wolf questioned.
"He didn't. I suspect he's had several wake up calls. Maddie thinks he really has his head screwed on straight now. He has already told her he would be their when their baby…it's a girl, is born. She says they will allow both him and me in to coach her." Azima said.
"Really?" Wolf asked.
"Yeah, I want to. I think seeing a baby being born will be a miracle. And you know I love Maddie like a sister. I'm just glad that Admiral Slattery is coming through for her and their daughter." Azima answered.
"Yeah, me too." Wolf answered before giving Azima a kiss. Knowing Mike was coming through for Maddie meant a lot to Wolf, not that his opinion mattered. "The only downfall to all this that I see is; you will see Maddie in all that pain and decide to never have a baby of our own?" Wolf remarked.
"It might do that, but all the sweet baby clothes and all that will probably change my mind." Azima told him with a laugh. For Wolf, it sounded perfect.
Super short, and more of a Wolf/Azima then just Wolf. Thanks for the reviews!
