Chapter 11
Game Over
Vanessa sat on the bean bag chair, leaning back and looking at the ceiling. Mary and Jeremy had left a while ago to head back home. Vanessa sat alone, with her second bottle of wine. She tilted her head to look at it.
"It's not the same," were the words out of her mouth. It wasn't as strong as it would be with Idiot's drugs. She missed Idiot. She was mad, but still missed her. She helped keep her on her own two feet, quite literally at times. Vanessa had gone back to looking at the ceiling. She hated being alone. The last moments before Idiot left would replay in her mind. It bothered her immensely.
Angel walked into the room and quickly took notice of Vanessa. "Hiya, hun!"
Vanessa's face was in the dark, but Angel heard no response, so thought she was asleep. He walked over and turned on the lamp next to her. Her eyes were open and vacant, but overflowing with tears. Angel jumped back, before approaching again. He lightly shook her to bring her to her senses. Vanessa blinked a few times before sitting up and turning to look at him.
"Oh, hi Angel," Vanessa murmured. Angel's brows furrowed as he went to sit next to her. He sat on the end of the couch and lightly patted the spot next to him. Vanessa stood and stretched, her joints popping fiercely. Angel cringed, but said nothing. Vanessa moved gingerly to the couch and collapsed next to Angel.
"What's bothering you, hun?" Angel asked, turning slightly to Vanessa. Vanessa turned towards him, with new tears in her eyes.
She burst. "I'm lost, Angel! I lost a friend and broke my own lifestyle while doing so!" Tears streamed down her face as she spoke. "I hurt her, too, I know I did! It wasn't my intention! I just wanted her to know that I would still be there for her if she really needed it! But I screwed it up... And I don't know how to fix it or if I even should…" Her voice trailed off at the end, as she turned away to the front and began to sob.
Angel sat still, absorbing what he just heard.
Once he understood, he scooted closer to Vanessa, wrapping his arms around her, one of which began to comb through her fluff. She wrapped her arms around him to complete the hug. Her head rested against his chest, her tears flowing faster, as she accepted the reassurance.
There was someone else who went unnoticed as he listened from the outside. Alastor. He listened to the conversation as Vanessa vented to Angel. Alastor began to walk away, his smile growing as he thought his devilish thoughts.
Vanessa began to feel more at ease and soon was just relaxing with Angel. She just didn't feel like moving. Maybe things would be alright after all. People were here and would help keep her as safe and happy as possible. Maybe the memories wouldn't bother her as much with time.
