Over the next seven years a lot had changed. The year was 2014. Kacey and John had gradually lost touch. Kacey was at the airport waiting for a flight to come in. She was picking someone up. The flight came in ten minutes later. The passengers emptied out. The last two off the plane was Gia and a four year old girl.
"Mommy!" "Mommy!" "Mommy!" She shouted excitedly running up to her. She looked like a mini Kacey..Kacey bent down and scooped her up.
"Hi Kori." Kacey said happily.
"I missed you mommy."
"I missed you to." "Were you good for aunt Gia on the plane."
"Yes."
"Did you have fun with daddy and Diane?"
"We had lots of fun."
"Good." "Thanks Gia." She said looking at her.
"No problem." Gia said.
Kacey was driving down the road. Kori was in the back in her car seat.
"I have to get some gas." Kacey said. "After that do want to go get a happy meal?"
"Yeah."
Kacey pulled into the gas station and pulled up to the pump.
"Mommy will be right back." Kacey said. She got out of the car locking it immediately after. She pumped the gas and went in to pay. She was paying.
"Kacey." A man's voice said from behind her. She knew the voice. She turned around and saw John standing there. They smiled. "I thought that was you." "Hi."
"Hi." They hugged.
"It's been a long time."
"Yeah." She waited for John to pay. "Would you like to meet my daughter?"
"You have a daughter?"
"Yep."
"Absolutely."
As they walked out to the car Kacey unlocked it. She opened the back passenger side door.
"Mommy wants you to meet somebody." Kacey said looking at Kori. "This is mommy's friend John."
"Hi." Kori said.
"Hi." "What's your name?" John asked.
"Kori."
"How old are you?"
"This many." She said holding up four fingers.
"Cool." "Going home to your daddy?"
"No." "Daddy's at home in Texas with stepmommy."
"Oh." He said looking at Kacey realizing what had happened.
"We're gonna get a happy meal."
"Can I come?" John asked looking at Kacey.
"Sure." Kacey said.
After she ate Kori was playing in the play place. Kacey and John were sitting at the table.
"So, what happened with you and Max?" John asked.
"When we had Kori, we just started drifting apart." "Don't get me wrong, he's a great father but, things were never the same between us after she was born." "We divorced two months after her first birthday."
"Yeah divorces suck, mine did."
"You were married?"
"For almost three years."
"To who?"
"Remember my girlfriend from college?"
"Liz?"
"Yeah." "Shortly after your wedding we came back into contact."
Before leaving that day they'd made sure they had each other's correct cell phone numbers. They were both glad they reconnected with each other.
