Chapter Twelve: When Team Dark Goes Camping
Nearly a week after the events at Crystal Lake, Shadow and Rouge headed out into Emerald Forest for a camping trip. It was in the early hours of the afternoon and the day was relatively peaceful, nothing major seemed to be afoot.
Hopefully, no giant snakes attacked this time. The couple just wanted peace and quiet, they were kind of pushing it when they brought along Omega, who'd volunteered to be a bodyguard.
Rouge hoped she and Shadow had a peaceful camp-out, the last thing they needed was another attack and Omega going ammo-crazy while shouting war cries.
Emerald Forest was a peaceful environment with a lush, green trees, Flickies, Rickies and Pocky rabbits living in their respective spots, a big waterfall and a pond along with it. It certainly was a perfect place to go camping, nothing very big there.
Shadow and Rouge found a suitable campsite in the clearing, Omega carried their camping equipment and was wearing a small hat on his robotic head with the words "Peaceful Camping" to lighten the mood.
Almost everybody knew that Omega, despite being a bit of a dangerous robot, had a varying personality. He could be sarcastic, serious, calm, etc. Just don't do anything to anger the robot unless you wanted to be obliterated.
Shadow wore a pair of black shades on his eyes and a Hawaiian T-shirt with flower symbols while Rouge wore a revealing pink dress, purple high heels, pink gloves, a gold arm bracelet and a crystal necklace around her neck.
"AREA SCANNED!" Omega buzzed, setting down the camping equipment, "ALL IS PEACEFUL, NOTHING TO OBLITERATE! YET I REQUIRE A PLACE TO GET IN SOME TARGET PRACTICE. THIS ROBOT CANNOT BE RUSTY IN COMBAT!"
Rouge rolled her eyes, knowing that she had expected Omega to get bored. "Go find some trees to mow down or set up some fake targets to shoot, dear." She suggested to the red robot, "But don't hurt any animals."
"SUGGESTION ACKNOWLEDGED; I WILL GO FIND A PLACE TO DO TARGET PRACTICE! BUT I CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT ANIMALS MAY BE SPARED, I AM PREPARED FOR ANY ACCIDENTS!"
Omega walked off, trying not to crush any plants along the way. Shadow and Rouge shared a kiss before getting to work, setting up their tents and sleeping bags while gathering the firewood.
Very few animals came by to observe, a flock of blue Flickies flew in and helped Rouge at one point while a Ricky rubbed its head against Shadow's leg, much to the Ultimate Life Form's surprise. These animals were like domesticated cats, just why?
The creatures couldn't help themselves, after years of being saved from Eggman by Sonic and his friends, the forest critters took a liking to anyone associated with Sonic. In fact, they may as well like Team Dark despite Omega being a robot.
Meanwhile, Omega set up some fake Egg Pawns near a couple oak trees and inspected his work before unleashing his ammo, annihilating fake targets and taking down trees while shouting, "WORTHLESS CONSUMER MODELS TO BE EXTERMINATED!"
Once he was done, Omega watched the trees he destroyed char and smoke while the decimated fake targets smoldered. The robot pumped his robo-fist and his eyes blinked, expressing his excitement over blowing stuff up.
Back at the campsite, Shadow and Rouge finished setting up. As a matter of fact, their tents were connected, forming one large tent, meaning they would be sleeping together and could get intimate all they wanted.
Rouge set up a camera and set it to auto before putting her arm around Shadow, who crossed his arms. He still smiled when the camera flashed, acting thrilled as the picture was taken.
"DID YOU JUST PHOTOGRAPH YOURSELVES?" Omega had returned and seen what the two were doing. Rouge happily invited the giant robot into the scene and set up the camera again, now a second photo was taken, one with the complete Team Dark.
'Team Dark', Shadow thought that name was intriguing, he could've called it 'Team Shadow' as Sonic called his team 'Team Sonic'. Or maybe Rouge could have called it Team Rogue, although it could've caused issues with the Babylon Rogues out there.
Nonetheless, 'Team Dark' was a fine name for the group since they were both considered 'dark heroes' despite having helped the other heroes on many occasions like when Neo Metal Sonic went crazy and tried to conquer the world for himself.
Omega did the honors of lighting the campfire with his built-in flamethrower, giving the campsite a true camping grounds feel. Shadow grunted politely as he high-fived Omega, showing gratitude for the robot being helpful.
As the rest of the day rolled on and with plenty of time until they got hungry, Shadow and Rouge decided to spend their time together doing stuff such as a bit of Extreme Gear racing around the forest, Rouge did bring along their Extreme Gear after all.
Shadow got out his racing goggles and Rouge donned her revealing Extreme Gear sports outfit before they set up their boards, once they were ready, they took off from their campsite and raced around the forest.
Rouge took the lead ahead of the black hedgehog a few times as they wove through trees and bushes, but Shadow always managed to find ways to cut ahead.
Their finishing spot was back at the camping site, Rouge tried to get ahead of Shadow but the dark hedgehog beat her back to the camping grounds.
"You are full of surprises." The bat complimented, pleased with Shadow's racing performance. Shadow nodded and told Rouge that she was full of surprises herself, before the two began engaging in a brief make-out.
Omega didn't pay attention to Shadow and Rouge's romantic activities when he was in the area, he was mostly guarding the campsite and interacting with the animals, who were a little nervous around him before they warmed up to him.
At one point, Shadow swept Rouge off her feet and took her for a little Extreme Gear ride through the forest while carrying her in his arms as the bat tucked her arms around the dark anti-hero agent's neck and gave Shadow a smooch on the nose.
They returned to the campsite as sunset came and the stars emerged, Omega had been quiet for a while, but his lights had lit up brightly, acting as search lights as he guarded the site and kept an eye out for anything.
Shadow and Rouge went inside their tent to relax for a bit, the dark hedgehog took his shoes off and gave his feet to Rouge, letting her give him a foot rub as the Ultimate Life Form relaxed to the bat massaging his feet.
After rubbing his feet, Rouge got behind her boyfriend on her knees and began rubbing his shoulders and quills, loosening him up. After that, Shadow had Rouge lay down on her stomach and removed his gloves, getting atop her.
The bat lay still and relaxed as her fellow G.U.N agent started to massage her back, going up and down her spine, squeezing her shoulders and neck. This made Rouge smile, resting her chin on her arms.
When the massage was done, Rouge sat up, wrapping her arms and legs around his neck and waist, giving him a seductive smile before they began French kissing and making out.
Reality kicked in and Rouge's stomach growled, it was dinner time. The two lovers pulled out a steak and began cooking it on the fire while roasting marshmallows and preparing the silverware, Shadow had also brought coffee beans to eat.
Dinner was soon made and Shadow sat by the fire with Rouge, who'd changed out of her extreme gear outfit back into her dress. The two dug into their cooked meal, even drinking some water and wine to go along with dinner.
They ate their steak and marshmallows, letting the meal digest before Shadow ate a couple of coffee beans while sharing some with Rouge. After that, they cleaned up and took their time to observe the night sky, just as they had once before.
Shadow spotted the Maria constellation again and chuckled as another memory involving Maria from decades prior returned, it was one where the two of them observed the stars one day on the ARK and pointed out a few constellations.
'That one looks like a cloud.' Maria had said when she saw a group of stars forming a cloud shape. Shadow had only smiled and told her that it was impossible for clouds to be in space unless they were looking at a planet.
Another memory flash, a recent one... Shadow remembered the night he took Rouge for a motorcycle ride and they gazed at the stars together. That had been after they started dating, it was when the Maria constellation appeared for the first time.
Time passed and Shadow and Rouge headed inside their tent. They lay down in their sleeping bag, Shadow holding his girlfriend close to him as they shared a soft kiss.
Rouge yawned and rested her head against Shadow's chest, the dark hedgehog pulled the sheets back, wrapping his arms around her and rubbing the back of Rouge's head as he too started to doze off.
Shadow looked forward to tomorrow, whatever happened, he was enjoying the time he and Rouge had together. However, they would be starting G.U.N work again soon. Hopefully, they would still have time together, no matter what happened...
"ALERT! ALERT!" Omega buzzed, "LIFE FORM DETECTED, EGGMAN HEAT SIGNATURE RECOGNIZED!" Shadow and Rouge woke up and headed outside, wondering what was going on and why Omega just when crazy... until they looked up.
The familiar outline of the Egg Mobile with Eggman piloting it flew over the camping grounds and into the trees. "It's the doctor." Shadow mused, "What's he doing here? I don't know what's going on, but I intend to find out."
"WIDE RANGE SCAN COMPLETE!" Omega declared, "EGGMAN BASE DETECTED SEVERAL CLICKS FROM WHERE WE STAND AND WHERE EGGMAN IS HEADING! EGG BASE DELTA FIVE HAS BEEN LOCATED, EGG BASE DELTA FIVE HAS BEEN DETECTED!"
Rouge was surprised, "Why didn't we know this earlier?"
"Doesn't matter?" Shadow said in a low growl, "Eggman's not escaping this time!"
"Shadow?" The bat tried to take Shadow's hand, only for him to move it away.
"You two stay here! You have your orders," Shadow told the bat and Omega sharply before looking towards the forest, "I am Shadow the Hedgehog, the Ultimate Life Form. I made a promise to Maria and I will bring Eggman to justice, this is who I AM!"
Before Rouge and Omega could stop Shadow, the dark hedgehog activated his rocket shoes and took off into the forest in pursuit of Eggman, heading for the mad doctor's new base that had apparently been set up in the region...
