POKEMON: LET'S GO
Episode 12: Evolve As The Friendship Grows
"On the way to the Cerulean City, our heroes have decided to stop for a lunch. But things are not as easy as they seem to be."
The group has stopped near a small pond to have lunch. Pikachu, Eevee, Bulbasaur, Pidgey and Growlithe eat their Pokemon food and Metapod basks in sunlight. Elaine points out that Pidgey is still unable to mix with other Pokemon, as it maintains a fair distance from others, except Chase and Pikachu. Chase also expresses his worries about Pidgey being too afraid to fight. Riley suggests that if Pidgey fights a Pokemon that doesn't fight back then it can gain a little confidence. He suggests that Metapod should have training with Pidgey as it can use Harden to protect itself and won't retaliate. Elaine worries about the idea and tells Riley about their previous experiences of having Pidgey train with Caterpie. Chase, however, believes that it will better as upon evolution Metapod has changed and doesn't sleeps much. Riley also supports him implying that Pokemon often change their attitude upon evolution. Elaine agrees as Chase is determined to train Pidgey.
Later, Elaine and Chase take positions to begin their training. Elaine calls out Metapod, before Chase calls out Pidgey. Pidgey is frightened at first to be in a battle. However, it gathers its will to fight after Pikachu's encouragement. Chase also promises it that Metapod won't attack, so it can practice its moves. Pidgey attempts a Sand Attack, Metapod closes its eyes but doesn't falls asleep thus time. Pidgey gains some confidence and rushes in with Quick Attack. Metapod uses Harden, raising its defence, so the move becomes less effective. Pidgey watches, Metapod does not attack it back. It prepares for another Quick Attack, but, suddenly two metallic cages fall and encase Metapod and Pidgey in them. As expected by the group, Team Rocket reveal themselves and recite their motto. Meowth introduces the group to their new Big Meowth Mecha, designed specially to capture Pikachu. It shoots a third and final cage at Pikachu, imprisoning him. As Chase and company head out to open the cages, Team Rocket realises that they need to pick up the cages physically as the mecha doesn't have any feature to carry back the cages. Jessie, James and Meowth get hold of Pidgey, Metapod and Pikachu's cage respectively. Chase sends Bulbasaur using Vine Whip to pull back the cages. After a good tug-of-war, Team Rocket manages to take the cages with the help of their mecha. Riley has Growlithe use Flamethrower, that heats up the mecha, first causing it to malfunction and then to explode. Team Rocket blast off, unfortunately, with the cages. While in the air, Meowth tries to get a hold of Pikachu's cage. However, he ends up receiving a shock. Eventually, Team Rocket crashes elsewhere, away from the cages.
The cages fall and break down. Pikachu gets up to find that he is alone near a bush, plus he has injured his leg and can't walk properly. He begins searching for his friends. Elsewhere, Pidgey lands deeper in the forest and realises that it has injured one of its wings and can't fly. However, it finds Metapod nearby, which has prevented itself from being injured by using Harden before the fall. Pidgey suggests finding Pikachu, but realises that Metapod can't move and it is not in a condition to carry Metapod around. So, they resolve to wait till Pikachu finds them.
Meanwhile, the group searches for their Pokemon. They hear a flap of wings behind them and assume it to be Pidgey, but are disappointed to find a flock of Spearow. Chase suggests asking Growlithe to sniff and try finding their Pokemon. Riley considers the idea, but asks for something that can have the Pokemon's smell. Eevee pushes Chase down and indicates to his clothes. Elaine gets the point that Pikachu travels usually on Chase's shoulder, so his clothes would have Pikachu's scent. Growlithe sniffs it and starts sniffing around for any traces of Pikachu's smell. But, it soon stops upon being confused. Riley realises that Growlithe is unable to find his smell because they blasted off.
On the other hand, Pikachu roams in the forest, with an injured leg, searching for his friends. But, he hears some familiar voices near him. He peeks from a bush to find Team Rocket, fighting themselves for not being able to catch Pikachu again. Jessie blames Meowth for not having the mecha made to carry the cages, Meowth passes the blame to James who has not noticed the flaw while cross checking the blueprint. James turns to pass the blame to Jessie but is frightened by her, so takes the blame, but, he spots Pikachu watching them fight. Pikachu tries to escape, but is unable to do so due to his injured leg. Team Rocket gets their golden chance and grabs it. They catch Pikachu in a bag made of rubber, an insulator, to protect themselves from his Thunderbolt. However, Pidgey and Metapod hear Pikachu's scream and Pidgey pushes Metapod to take him along in the direction of the source of Pikachu's scream.
The group calls out for their lost Pokemon while Growlithe keeps sniffing around and searching for the lost Pokemon as well.
Back at the forest Team Rocket is happy again to have got Pikachu finally. They start deciding what to do with the money they will get after gifting Pikachu to their BOSS. Pidgey comes to the scene through a bush, pushing Metapod. It peeks through a bush and is scared on the sight of Team Rocket. However, it feels guilty as Team Rocket prepare their balloon to flee. As they are about get away with Pikachu, Pidgey gathers the courage to reveal itself and stop Team Rocket. Team Rocket is however, unaffected by its presence and prepare to leave anyways. Pidgey says something that Meowth translates as Pidgey wanting to prove its friendship to Pikachu as the latter has encouraged it in the direst of situations. Team Rocket make fun of it calling Pidgey a 'coward weakling'. However, Jessie sends out her Ekans using Poison Sting. An afraid Pidgey hides behind Metapod who takes the blow and is poisoned by it. Team Rocket laughs on Pidgey and prepares to leave with Pikachu still in their hold. Pidgey watches them going up in their balloon and remembers Pikachu's friendship. It tries to fly, but to no avail. Its emotions instigate courage and it starts glowing, evolving into Pidgeotto.
On the other hand, Growlithe senses something and rushes in its direction, with the group following it.
Back at the forest, Team Rocket is amazed upon witnessing the evolution. Pidgeotto flies and bursts Team Rocket's balloon with a Wing Attack, causing it to crash land. Pikachu's bag is torn open and it escapes. Jessie has Ekans use Poison Sting, but Jessie has Ekans use Poison Sting, but Pidgeotto dodges with Quick Attack and hits Ekans with Wing Attack, defeating it. Pikachu uses a Thunderbolt to blast off Team Rocket. James breaks the fourth wall by implying that they blasted off twice in the same episode.
Just then, the group arrives there and gladly embrace their Pokemon. Chase looks for Pidgey, but finds the fearless Pidgeotto around. He quickly realises that Pidgey has evolved into Pidgeotto before scanning his Pokedex for it. Elaine witnesses Metapod getting cured of its poisoning by itself and scans her Pokedex to know about its ability, Shed Skin, that cures it of any kind of status problems.
Anytime later, Pikachu is fully fit upon being treated by Elaine with some ointment. The group decides to move on towards Cerulean City as Chase celebrates the evolution of Pidgey with his new fearless Pidgeotto.
