"Do you have anymore porkchops?"

Maya laughed and pointed to the kitchen. She and her sister Annalise had been working with Fitz for 10 years. He was always welcome to a meal in their home. Both women had sympathy for him. Fitz helped the FBI takedown an international human trafficking scandal. Annalise, being a clinical and mental health specialist, made sure Fitz had ongoing therapy. He wanted to be off the grid for a long time. Now, he was ready to start a new life in DC. Maya didn't share anything about Fitz with Olivia. She didn't want Olivia to have any distractions while she finished college and law school. Olivia's marriage to Curtis was a surprise to everyone. He was just a guy she dated for a few months. It was like she needed to put a check mark by marriage on her checklist of goals.

Maya and Fitz had a similar upbringing. Annalise was four years older than Maya, so their dad quitting his job to run a shadow organization didn't affect Annalise so badly. She started college in another state, and Maya had to deal with his new lifestyle. It was difficult starting high school and dealing with a dad who would occasionally show up in a drunken rage to attack her and her mom. He was the reason Maya decided to work for the FBI. Maya could understand Fitz, and she wanted him to be in a good place mentally. She was angry at everyone the whole flight to Fairbanks, but she pitied him when she saw the bruises on his face. Fitz wasn't a bad guy. He was a pawn in his father's game.

"Do you know Olivia has an office in one of the buildings I clean?"

"I do know that. I found that out today after your shift. Your boss called me, and told me you had a great first day at work."

"Are you okay with that?"

Maya shrugged her shoulders. "Olivia is married and she's almost 30. It's not my business anymore. I want her to be safe. That's what I've always wanted for Olivia and Angela."

"I would like to be friends, but I don't think she wants a guy like me in her life. I'm not in her social circle."

"You've overcome a lot Fitz. I don't want you to put yourself down because you don't have a career. If you ever want more for yourself, I can get you a job at the FBI."

"I like being a janitor."

"Fitz, having money won't make you a bad person. You are not your dad."

"I'm happy Maya. I don't want to be unhappy again."

Maya took a sip of wine. He could be a janitor if it made him happy.
