A/N: Oh wow, I expected a strong reaction to chapter 14 but not that much ;-). But I understand, I would have had the same reaction as a reader... it was easier for me to post that ending as I had already written a lot of what was to follow ;-).
Okay, didn't think this would be necessary but reading the comments it seems I should explain why I brought Boswell back ;-), there are still things that need to be resolved between Callie and Arizona, I think one does not just get over cheating so easily... so in order to really leave the past behind they need to go through this part and for the purpose of the rest of the story some things needed to be triggered... as you will see in the following chapters...
anyway... I leave you with chapter 15, my favorite chapter so far ;-), maybe you will disagree and find my reasoning weird... it's possible I feel like that because this chapter was the easiest to write as my fingers just kept on typing... but actually my favorite part of the whole story so far is in this chapter, it is somewhere in the middle, I'm curious to see if anyone else will feel the same :-)
Oh and... Arizona has already apologized for cheating, a couple of times, chapter 5 and chapter 12, I'm not sure she should apologize more..., well we'll see... ;-)
CHAPTER 15
Callie was sitting in the dark room staring in front of her, she couldn't close her eyes because when she did the image of Boswell wearing Arizona's scrubs with her wedding ring on it just flashed right in front of her eyes again, so she kept them open staring at nothing. Her phone buzzed and even though she didn't want to talk to anyone she took a look at it. The message was from Arizona and for a second she thought of turning her phone off but then her eyes caught the time, it was 5:30 and they were supposed to pick up Sofia soon.
"Sofia…" she whispered.
She clicked on the message half aware of what she was doing.
I got paged, can you please pick up Sofia and can we please talk later… nothing happened, and I swear nothing was going to happen, I don't want anyone else, I just want you Calliope, I just need you in my life… I love you so much
Callie sighed, we need to focus on Sofia, she thought and started typing, I'll pick up Sofia, I guess we can talk later, I don't know… I need to process some things…
She put the phone down and sighed heavily going back to staring at nothing on the wall in front of her.
Suddenly the lights turned on and Amelia entered the room, "Oh, hey, sorry, didn't know anyone was here, I just need to check a few scans," Amelia said and walked towards the x-ray viewer.
She felt Callie was weird so she turned around, "Callie, what's wrong?"
"I caught Arizona with Boswell again."
"Boswell?"
"The woman Arizona cheated with, I caught them in the elevator together."
Amelia raised her eyebrows, "Doing what?"
"Well, I'm pretty sure they were about to kiss when my appearance interrupted them."
Amelia furrowed her brow, "Are you sure about that? It makes no sense, I've seen how Arizona looks at you, her eyes sparkling with happiness… have you talked to Arizona?"
"Yeah, we talked…" Callie said distantly.
"And, did she explain?"
"Sure," Callie said without any color in her voice, "she said her hands were on Boswell's shoulders because she was about to push her away. Boswell leaned forward to kiss her and she put her hands up to stop her from getting close."
"And you don't believe that?"
"Oh, come on, I wasn't born yesterday." Callie said with resignation.
"Hmm, and you say you saw this?"
"Yeah, I saw them."
"Okay, so where were Arizona's hands?" Amelia asked.
"On Boswell's shoulders!" Callie said, annoyance evident in her voice.
"Yeah, but I mean, around her shoulders, or pushing against them?"
"What difference does it make?" Callie shook her head.
"Callie…"
"What!?" Callie hissed angrily.
"The answer might be right in front of your nose, come on let's do a demonstration."
"A what!?"
"A demonstration, come on get up, get over here!"
"You're kidding right!"
"No, I'm not kidding, I just cannot believe Arizona would do that, after how she's been acting with you, the woman has eyes for you only, it's obvious she's head over heels in love with you, it just makes no sense so come on, let's test the theory."
Callie reluctantly got up, "Okay fine, how do you want to do this?"
"Okay, you lean forward like you want to kiss me and I will try to stop you."
Callie rolled her eyes, "This is ridiculous!" she protested.
"As ridiculous as it seems this could help you open your eyes, come on," Amelia insisted.
"Okay fine," Callie said reluctantly and leaned forward.
Amelia put her hands in front of her and stopped Callie from moving.
At that moment Maggie entered the room.
"Whoa! What's going on here!? Err… do I even want to know?"
Amelia turned her head to face the door, "Maggie, perfect timing! What does it seem to you, what do you think is going on here?"
"Well…" Maggie hesitated, looking at them with a confused look on her face, "It seems like Callie is about to kiss you."
"Okay, great! We are testing a theory. You can help! Callie saw Arizona with another woman like this and we are trying to figure out what really happened, so Callie, can you kiss me like this?"
Callie tried moving forward but was unable to, "No, I can't."
"Okay, and was this where Arizona's hands were?"
"I have no idea, I'm not sure."
"Okay, I'll reposition my hands," Amelia said and placed her palms on top of Callie's shoulders."
"Can you kiss me now?" Amelia asked and Callie moved forward.
"Yeah I could kiss you now."
"Okay, now, were Arizona's hands like this?"
Callie sighed, "No, they weren't," she said closing her eyes, she took Amelia's hands and placed them back to the front, "this is where they were," she whispered.
"Callie…," Amelia said suggestively, tilting her head to the left.
"She was preventing her to get closer," Callie whispered, and Amelia smiled slapping Callie's shoulders with both her hands.
"Told you it made no sense!"
"Dammit!" Callie said and turned around, "I'm such an idiot! I just stormed out!"
"I think you're just really hot-blooded," Amelia laughed, "and hey if I managed to stop running to booze and pills you can learn to stop storming out without thinking first," she said winking at her.
"I have to go find her!" Callie started walking towards the door and then stopped, "Fuck, I have to get Sofia!"
"Where is Sofia?" Amelia asked.
"Here in the daycare, school was closed today, some issue with water pipes, someth…" she mumbled.
Amelia smiled and interrupted her, "We'll take care of Sofia, go fix things with Arizona."
"Okay, thanks!" Callie smiled and rushed out of the room.
"What the hell?" Maggie asked with a puzzled expression on her face.
Amelia laughed, "I'll fill you in, are you done with your shift?
"Yeah!"
"Okay, let's go get Sofia and I'll explain everything."
Callie walked over to the peds ward hoping to find Arizona there, her blood was still boiling, she hated that this woman appeared and shook everything they worked so hard to fix, she was still angry about everything but she needed to see Arizona… She wasn't sure if the emergency was about peds or prenatal but she was going to check both. When she entered the peds ward she saw Arizona in the room with newborns. She entered and walked over to her.
"Calliope…" Arizona whispered in surprise as her heart skipped a beat.
"Are you still with the emergency?"
"No, it was false alarm, the baby is fine."
"Okay, great, can you please come with me?" Callie asked taking Arizona's hand.
"What about Sofia?"
"Amelia is getting her."
"Okay, where are we going?"
"To the on-call room," Callie said and continued walking.
"Wait, what?" Arizona said puzzled, she was happy Callie came to find her but going back to that on-call room made little sense to her.
"Amelia helped me realize I was wrong, you were trying to stop her, I was wrong for even considering another possibility…" Callie said opening the door to the on-call room.
Arizona entered. "I'm glad to hear that, but I still don't understand…" she started saying but was interrupted by Callie suddenly pushing her into the door and kissing her aggressively.
"Callie, what are you doing?" Arizona whispered.
"I'm reclaiming the room" Callie said locking the door and starting to undress Arizona, while her lips attacked Arizona's neck, sucking on it roughly.
Arizona felt lightheaded, she felt this was not a wise thing to do "Callie, I am not sure this is a good idea after everything that happened this afternoon…"
Callie stopped and looked at Arizona.
"Arizona, I need this, we can talk later but right now I need to reclaim this room with you, I need to reclaim you, I need to take you right here, right now. I need to make you mine, here in this room…"
Arizona's breath got caught in her throat, Callie's eyes were revealing so many things, there was passion, and love, and hurt, and anger, gosh there was so much anger inside Callie's eyes but this was Callie, the woman she loved and she would do everything to make her feel better and a part of her understood every emotion she saw in her eyes because she was feeling them as well.
"Okay," Arizona whispered and grabbed Callie's top pushing it over Callie's head as her lips attacked Callie's lips. Her head was spinning but she decided to put everything aside and focus on Callie, her lips on her skin, her breath, her body pressed against her own.
She felt Callie's hand go inside her scrub pants as she picked Arizona's right leg up and placed it around her waist. Callie let her fingers roam inside Arizona's folds while she nibbled on Arizona's neck fiercely. She let her left hand leave Arizona's leg and moved it inside Arizona's top to squeeze her right breast applying strong pressure making Arizona moan heavily causing Callie to kiss her hungrily. The rubbing she was doing with her fingers on Arizona's nub already incited Arizona's juices to start flowing and Callie moved her hand lower and feeling the wetness that had developed quickly, she pushed two fingers inside as her tongue went inside Arizona's mouth at the same time. Arizona moaned as Callie continued her thrusts pushing in hard and fast making sure her palm was rubbing against Arizona's clit. They both breathed heavily and when Arizona's moans started getting louder Callie silenced her with her own mouth. Arizona's body exploded soon as Callie continued her movements. This time she didn't want to be gentle, she wanted to make Arizona come many times, and hard, she wanted her to scream her name, think only about her. And soon enough Callie heard her name vibrating loudly from Arizona's vocal cords, and she smiled. She didn't care if anyone could hear them, in fact she was hoping Boswell would walk past and hear that Arizona belonged to her and only her.
Her hand was aching a bit but Callie didn't care, she was still breathing heavily and feeling Arizona's heavy breath on her neck. She removed her fingers as she heard Arizona's voice.
"Let's move to bed," Arizona suggested and Callie suddenly got worried.
She flipped them around and started pushing Arizona towards the bed slowly, taking Arizona's top and her bra off, "Are you okay?," Callie asked.
"I'm fine," Arizona whispered.
"Are you sure?" Callie asked again.
"Mm-hmm," Arizona confirmed sitting down and pulled Callie on top of her making them lie on the bed. Arizona pushed her hand inside Callie's pants but Callie grabbed it and taking her other hand as well she pinned them both above Arizona's head.
"Not yet," Callie said as she lowered her head to nibble on Arizona's erect nipples biting a bit harder than she would normally do.
"God," Arizona moaned as her back arched from the mattress.
"You're not allowed to touch me until I say you can," Callie said.
"You're kidding, right?" Arizona mumbled.
"Nope, I'm not kidding, no touching."
"Jesus…" Arizona commented as she felt another strong bite on her shoulder.
Callie moved her head lower while her hands took off Arizona's scrub pants. She then wrapped her lips around Arizona's clit, rubbing it hard with her tongue making Arizona's body react immediately.
Arizona grabbed the bed frame behind her head trying to prevent her hands from darting towards Callie's head as her back arched upwards reacting to Callie's touch.
When Callie added three fingers inside, Arizona's body didn't take long to reach the climax as Callie kept on moving her fingers without stopping while her tongue pushed Arizona over the edge. Callie moved her body up to lie on Arizona straddling her right leg as her fingers stayed inside Arizona. Arizona tried to wrap her right arm around Callie's shoulders but Callie caught her arm with her free hand and pinned it back up.
"No touching," she repeated with determination.
"Dammit!" Arizona protested, "I want to touch you!" she said but Callie ignored her words as she started rubbing her own center against Arizona's thigh while her fingers continued to push in and out of Arizona making them both moan loudly. Arizona held her grip on the bed frame but tried to at least catch Callie's lips as her tongue and her lips felt comforting. Callie did not deny it, she needed the same contact. Their bodies moved together and then exploded with pleasure at the same time as they moaned heavily into each other's mouths. When Arizona's body stopped trembling underneath her, Callie slumped on top of Arizona breathing heavily.
"Can I touch you now?" Arizona asked in between heavy breaths.
"What?" Callie whispered lost a bit.
"I want to touch you, can I do that now?" Arizona repeated.
"Oh… sorry… I don't know… why I…" Callie stuttered, "Yes you can touch…" Callie didn't manage to finish as Arizona flipped her over "…me" she ended the sentence while Arizona started moving down, her hands hungrily grabbing parts of Callie's body. Arizona quickly pushed Callie's pants down and when Callie felt Arizona's lips on her bud she arched her back and moaned "Oh God…" when her phone rang.
"Nooo," Arizona protested.
"Arizona, I need to get that, it might be about Sofia."
"Yeah," Arizona agreed and sat on the bed while Callie pulled her pants up and reached for her phone sitting up as well.
"Mer, hey what's up?"
"Are you okay? Amelia told me what happened? What's going on?"
"Everything's fine, is Sofia okay?"
"She's a bit restless, I don't know, maybe she's sensing something's wrong..."
"Right, I'll come get her, see you soon."
Callie turned off the phone and sighed heavily as Arizona's pager sounded.
"Is everything okay with Sofia?" Arizona asked worriedly, reaching for her pager.
"Mer said she's restless, I'll go get her."
"Dammit!" Arizona said looking at her pager, "I have to go…"
"I'll take Sofia to my apartment, it's fine…" Callie whispered a bit distantly.
They both sat there in silence not knowing what to do or say, everything that happened that afternoon was intense, especially the part that was happening right now.
Callie was thinking she should say something but didn't know how to start. She opened her mouth to speak but words got stuck in her throat. She sighed heavily and quickly got up starting to put her clothes on. Arizona was next to her getting dressed as well but Callie couldn't look Arizona in the eyes, she was overwhelmed with so many feelings, her emotions were exploding inside of her and she quickly walked over to the door, every inch of her body wanting to run away when Arizona's trembling voice stopped her.
"Calliope," she heard that sweet voice calling her name apprehensively and her eyes watered, she was a mess but this was Arizona, she couldn't leave like that so she turned around and walked back to Arizona a few tears rolling down her face.
She looked at Arizona whose eyes were watery as well and when their eyes met a few tears left Arizona's eyes too. Callie leaned forward and kissed Arizona softly before resting her head on Arizona's forehead "We'll talk later, okay?" she said caressing Arizona's cheek tenderly while her other hand took hold of Arizona's hand.
Arizona nodded her head silently and Callie kissed her again softly before letting go of her hand and walking out.
Arizona was sitting on the sofa feeling… she didn't know exactly what she was feeling, she was still processing everything that happened that evening and there were so many emotions, so many raw emotions that happened today and she felt a heavy weight on her chest. She wondered how Callie felt… she wanted… no, she needed to see Callie tonight but she was afraid to reach out…
Are we okay?, she wondered, Is this going to ruin everything? Maybe she was right, maybe one never really gets over cheating… maybe I ruined us beyond repair…
She took her phone and opened WhatsApp, she looked at Callie's photo in the little circle, she was holding Sofia and they were both smiling happily.
We were supposed to tell Sofia soon, we were supposed to take a new photo together all three of us… and now… What if Callie doesn't want that anymore? What if the past cannot be forgotten… Why did Boswell have to come now when we were doing so great, why did we have to end up alone in that elevator, why did Callie have to see us…? This last thought made her think even more…
It's actually better she saw us because otherwise it would have been a secret and that would have been even worse…, okay maybe all this happened so we would work through any bad feelings that are still left… Arizona was trying to find a silver lining but she was afraid because today it suddenly seemed that everything they had been working on, trying so hard to build back, was still on such shaky grounds while they thought they were stronger than ever… today it seemed like they were still so fragile, so very fragile…
I need to see her, I need to talk to her… I won't sleep all night if I don't… Arizona thought and clicked on Callie's name. The little online notification showed up on top of the screen.
"She's talking to someone… but she hasn't said a word to me…" Arizona said out loud and her insecurities grew even more. She turned the screen off and got up to get a glass of wine, she sighed, this is going to be a long night… she thought.
Callie was sitting on the sofa lost in thoughts, her emotions were still running wild inside her body. There was a big glass of wine in front of her and her fingers were circling the rim while she was trying to figure out what to do. She had a weird feeling about everything that happened earlier. Normally their sex session in the on-call room would have been so hot but with everything that had happened it made her feel sad for some reason. She wanted to talk to Arizona, she needed to put her arms around her and apologize, she needed to tell her that she is sorry about everything that happened, she needed to tell her she still believed in them, that she does trust her, that this was just a little bump on the road that they ran into, God she wanted to tell her so many things...
She opened WhatsApp and stared into the screen wanting to type but not knowing what to say. Her eyes noticed the screen changed a bit and she saw online notification appear on the top but then disappear after a few seconds.
She's chatting with someone, Callie thought, for all I know she could be chatting with Boswell, she thought and shook her head. "What am I doing!?" she said out loud. "I cannot think like that! Why are these thoughts suddenly showing up… I was telling myself and Arizona that I trust her… This is not trusting her…"
Callie sighed and took a big gulp of her wine, "This is ridiculous" she voiced, "I cannot go to bed without talking to her, I won't sleep at all, and after what happened we need to talk…" Callie said with determination and opened Whatsapp again.
Arizona took her glass, I need to say something, it doesn't matter if she's not saying anything, I need to fight for her, I cannot let ten seconds of nothing happening ruin everything that we have been working on… She placed her glass on the table without taking a sip and started typing.
Are you okay? she wrote and debated for a second whether she should say anything else but then said to herself "Just start with something!" as she hit the send button when in the same moment a message from Callie arrived.
Are you okay?, the message said.
Both of them smiled seeing the message from the other one. Arizona exhaled heavily.
I feel weird… Arizona wrote sincerely.
Me too, Callie replied, and I am talking to myself out loud, not sure that's a good thing, she added making Arizona laugh.
Thank you for making me laugh, I needed that.
I know it's getting late but I'd really like you to come over, actually I need you to come over, I don't think I will get any sleep if you don't…
I need that too, I was just afraid to ask…
Arizona… you shouldn't be afraid to tell me how you feel or what you need…
I know, but it's just… this evening… it's been really difficult…
I know… Callie wrote, I'll prepare a glass of wine for you ;-)
Good, I'm gonna need that, haven't touched the one I poured myself.
Okay, see you soon.
When Callie got up after she heard the knock on the door her heart was pounding like crazy in her chest.
She opened the door and leaned onto it. When their eyes met Callie felt like air was kicked out of her lungs. There were so many emotions she could read in Arizona's eyes and the heaviness of it hit her hard. She extended her arm and Arizona reached out to take it.
"Come here…" Callie whispered and pulled Arizona gently into her embrace. She closed the door quietly and wrapped both arms tightly around Arizona. Arizona exhaled heavily as she let her body relax into Callie's arms. This felt soothing, just to feel Callie's chest move with every breath, having Callie's arms wrapped around her she felt like she was in a protective bubble where nothing could hurt her.
Callie smiled at the sensation of holding Arizona close, she inhaled the familiar scent of Arizona's shampoo mixed with her perfume. I could stay like this forever, Callie thought as her fingers started caressing Arizona's back. Arizona's fingers did the same and neither of them wanted to break the embrace. So they stayed like that for a few minutes, breathing together, caressing each other, letting their bodies and their emotions calm down. When Arizona moved slightly Callie let go of her back and placed her right hand under Arizona's chin lifting it up to meet her lips. They kissed softly letting their lips brush lightly as if they needed them to soothe everything that happened earlier that day.
When their lips parted they smiled at each other.
"Let's sit down," Callie said taking Arizona's hand and leading her over to the sofa handing her the glass of wine.
"Thank you," Arizona smiled and took a sip.
They stayed silent for a few seconds, and then Callie spoke first.
"Arizona…, I'm sorry about how I acted…, in the on-call room… that was… I'm sorry…" Callie spoke with guilt in her eyes not able to look at Arizona.
Arizona placed her fingers under Callie's chin and lifted her head to meet her eyes.
"Callie, we've had rough sex before," Arizona said softly.
"I know… it's just this time it wasn't raw desire, it was raw anger, and it left me a bit…"
"…empty…" Arizona whispered averting her eyes and looking at her glass.
Callie looked at her, "I'm sorry…" she whispered.
Arizona lifted her eyes, "It's okay, it really is, it's just… with everything else it is a mixture of very strong feelings, but I understand why you needed it."
"Do you really? Because this anger was not… I was not angry about the situation…"
"I know…" Arizona said playing with her glass before looking up to face Callie again, "You were angry with me, it was anger about that night three years ago, you were angry I put us through that…"
Callie nodded her head, "I thought I had worked through that… I thought I had left it behind" she added with a sigh. "I'm sorry I acted the way I did, I just let anger direct me and I just wanted to delete that woman from our lives, and from that room… you would have stopped me if you didn't want to do… err… what we did, right, you would have stopped me?" Callie asked insecurity and remorse audible in her voice.
"Calliope," Arizona said softly, "You didn't force me to do anything, I did think about stopping for a few moments, I wasn't sure it was a wise thing to do considering everything that had happened, but I love you, and I would do anything to help you feel better, and I understood why you needed things to happen the way they did, you needed to have control again."
Callie sighed, "I feel weird, I feel so many emotions and none of them are good…"
"Maybe because you were driven by anger, or disappointment, you blocked everything else out of the equation. This is how I felt after Boswell, empty, sad, weird, guilty, disappointed, angry… so many things…" Arizona admitted but then looked at the floor, "I'm sorry I shouldn't mention her…"
Callie grabbed her hand, "Arizona, it's fine, I want you to talk to me openly, like talking to your best friend, if you need to say something it obviously needs to come out, don't keep it inside because you are afraid you will hurt me, we've been through so much already, I don't think anything new can hurt any more at this point."
Arizona smiled and squeezed Callie's hand. "Okay, thank you."
Callie sighed, "I felt it was a wrong thing to do today… but I just pushed everything aside and focused on what I felt at that moment."
"That's what happened to me with Boswell," Arizona quietly said, "You know that in one of my therapy sessions Dr. Brown asked if I had not thought of my wife and my child when I was in that room with her and I realized I had pushed it aside, I had completely blocked those thoughts, but as soon as my brain started functioning again, you and Sofia were all I could think about and all sorts of emotions hit me."
"When was that?" Callie asked.
"When was what?"
"The moment when your brain started working again?" Callie asked.
Arizona looked at her, "Callie," she whispered, "do you really want to talk about the details…?"
"I think I do, I think we need to, end this day with raw truth..."
Arizona nodded her head.
"It was after the..." Arizona started but her word got stuck in her throat.
"…the orgasm," Callie finished.
Arizona looked at her with pleading eyes.
"Let's not sugar-coat it," Callie said shrugging her shoulders and smiling sadly.
Arizona closed her eyes slowly and exhaled heavily, "Okay, yes, it was after the orgasm."
"How many?" Callie asked bluntly.
"How many what?" Arizona replied looking at Callie in astonishment at the words she spoke.
"How many orgasms did you have?"
Arizona looked at Callie pleading her not to do this.
"I want today to finally be the last time we have to talk about that night, so just raw, hard truth…" Callie explained.
Arizona nodded her head.
"One..." she whispered.
"Only one?" Callie asked lifting her eyebrows in complete surprise.
"Well it's not like I was planning to be with her, it just happened, and the moment I realized what I had done I wanted to get away from her…"
"It didn't seem you were trying to get away from her when I found you standing next to her in the NICU," Callie noted playing with her glass.
Arizona looked at Callie and started explaining, "I tried to get away and refused her help with the babies but she came to NICU anyway and offered help in front of Karev, Wilson and Edwards. I said no again but Alex accepted her help because we needed more hands, so I let it go because I didn't want to make a scene in front of everybody. Later she wanted to talk to me and I kept avoiding her. I just wanted to run away and forget it ever happened and she just kept on coming close to me, which is what she did again before you came. I told her that I didn't want to talk and that I had made a mistake and she told me she wouldn't leave things like that because she liked me. I never thought she would come back three years later, I never thought that mistake would come to haunt us again..."
"When I saw you in the elevator with her… the scene of her wearing your scrubs with our wedding ring on it just flashed in front of my eyes, and in that moment I felt so powerless, again… That's what I felt that day, completely powerless… You expect that life could throw you curve balls and make you feel powerless but you don't expect the love of your life to do that, to pull the rug from under your feet. It wasn't like I wasn't loving, or caring, or wasn't giving you attention. Yes we had our difficulties but I felt that there was nothing I could have done to prevent that night from happening and it made me feel so powerless. And when I saw you two again today, close to each other, all those feelings just overwhelmed me again…"
"I was supposed to prevent that night from happening…" Arizona said and sighed heavily, "I thought this chapter was closed, I never thought we would have to deal with it again," she stated leaning back on the sofa.
"Well maybe now we can finally close it," Callie whispered.
Arizona looked at Callie "Yeah, maybe…" she agreed. She hesitated for a few moments but then asked warily "Is there anything else you'd like to know about that night?"
Callie thought for a moment, she hesitated as well but then finally said,
"Explain to me what exactly happened, you mentioned locking the door instead of opening it, but what led to that moment, why did you lock the door?"
Arizona closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "She flirted with me from the moment we met, and it felt good, after everything that I had to go through that year it really felt good. She wanted to spend the night at the hospital to keep an eye on the baby she operated on so I showed her to the on-call room. I extended my arm to say goodbye, she laughed at that and we hugged, and at that moment the power went off and she kissed me and I kissed her back but when the generators kicked in and the power came back on I pushed her away and said I couldn't continue. I walked to the door and I already had the knob in my hand pressed half down when she said, "Arizona, you are allowed to lose a little bit of control."
"And that's when you locked the door?"
"Yes."
Callie nodded her head and took a sip of her wine.
Arizona turned her head to look at Callie. "Calliope, are we going to be okay? All this work that we have done trying to rebuild us… is it strong enough? Are we strong enough to get through this?" Arizona asked as her voice trembled. "Do you still want to be with me…?" she asked as her eyes watered.
"Heey!" Callie said softly, putting the glass down and then taking Arizona's hand. "Of course I still want to be with you, this is just a minor bump on our road, we were doing so great lately, and I do think we are strong enough. We just need to work through the residues that's all, and I want to work on them together…"
"I am so sorry I slept with her, I am so sorry we have to go through this because of what I did."
"Come here," Callie whispered spreading her arms. Arizona smiled sadly and leaned over wrapping her hands around Callie's waist.
They stayed like that for a few minutes, listening to each other's breaths.
"Did you really think I was going to kiss her?" Arizona whispered.
Callie sighed, "In my defense her lips were several inches away from yours."
"More like twenty inches," Arizona corrected with a touch of teasing in her voice.
"Okay fine, you kept her at quite a distance, but to me it seemed twenty inches too close at that moment, but you have to admit the situation was a bit too real, the two of you alone in the elevator, facing each other, your back against the wall, she was so close to you and she was going after your lips."
"Okay, true, it was a bit too much," Arizona sighed and turned around to face Callie. She traced her finger over Callie's lips. "Your lips are the only ones I want to kiss for the rest of my life, please remember that, and if you ever see anyone close to my lips again you should come to my rescue not storm off."
Callie laughed out loud at the last comment, "You want me to treat you like a damsel in distress? That's a first."
Arizona chuckled, "I want you to protect what belongs to you, and I want my lips to belong to you and you only."
Callie smiled, "Okay, I will keep that in mind for next time."
"There will be no next time," Arizona whispered and moved her face closer to Callie.
Callie smiled, "Okay," she said and let their lips meet. They kissed softly for a while, allowing their lips to have their own conversation. After a few minutes Arizona placed her head on Callie's shoulder and sighed with relief.
"What's that sigh about?," Callie asked caressing Arizona's left arm.
"I'm just glad we have worked through this day…"
"Me too," Callie said as she kissed Arizona's right temple, holding her close.
They stayed like that for some time caressing each other tenderly. After a while Callie spoke.
"Arizona, what do you need?" she asked.
"Hmm…?" Arizona mumbled.
"Is there something you need from me tonight?" Callie repeated elaborating more.
Arizona raised her head to look at Callie as Callie continued.
"You gave me something I needed today, well what I thought I needed…, I want to do the same for you."
Arizona smiled. "I need to stay with you tonight, I need to feel you close, hear you breathe next to me…"
Callie smiled back, "I'd like you to stay as well. I need to feel your touch."
"Oh thank God," Arizona said with a sigh of relief, "I was worried you might forbid me to touch you again."
Callie laughed, "You didn't like that, huh?"
"Well, weirdly enough I kind of did, it was torture but my desire to touch you grew stronger with each moment, when I finally could touch you it was blissful even though I didn't get a chance to explore it completely."
"Hmm, maybe we can play with that sometimes…" Callie said winking at Arizona.
"Yeah, maybe…" Arizona smiled, "but not tonight, tonight I want to kiss you and caress you softly and I want you to wrap your arms around me and hold me close."
Callie smiled, "I like that plan, come on let's go to bed," she said getting up and taking Arizona's hand leading her into her bedroom.
They snuggled next to each other, holding each other close, kissing softly as their fingers travelled along each other's bodies grazing softly each other's skin. They spent hours like that, enjoying the intimacy and the soothing sensation that was lulling their bodies until they fell asleep in each other's arms.
Arizona was woken up at 6 am by the sound of her pager. She slowly got up careful not to wake up Callie who was still soundly asleep.
She got ready and walked to Callie's side of the bed. She sat next to her and caressed her hair before she leaned down to kiss her softly.
Callie opened her eyes, "Hey, where are you going?" she said dreamily.
"I got paged, it's still early, go back to sleep."
"Mmm, okay, see you at work…" Callie mumbled and dozed off again.
Arizona smiled and placed another kiss on Callie's cheek making her smile in sleep and then stood up and left the room.
An hour later, Callie opened her eyes and stretched her arms. Everything from the day before was in a haze and she was having difficulty putting the pieces together. She vaguely remembered Arizona being here, or leaving, everything seemed a bit confusing. She caressed the pillow where she thought Arizona's head was lying a few hours ago but now she wasn't sure anymore. As her hand moved along the pillow she felt a piece of paper under her fingers, she took it and brought it closer to her eyes.
Thank you for last night, I really needed that. I love you *heart*
Find me at work to have coffee in the morning.
Callie smiled, so it wasn't a dream, Arizona was here, Callie thought as she started remembering everything that happened last night, the bad and the good parts. She smiled, we will be fine, she thought, the wonderful night they spent together reassured her, "Everything will be fine" she repeated out loud. She got up and went to wake up Sofia and get ready for work.
When Callie came to the hospital she had to do some urgent work so she couldn't go looking for Arizona, around 11:30 she finally found some free time and went to find her only to be told that Arizona was in emergency surgery. She went to the gallery to check on her from above. She tried to stay back, hidden from plain view and smiled seeing Arizona work, she was calm and relaxed, everything is fine, Callie thought again.
Suddenly the corner of her eye caught a person enter the OR as her mouth opened in surprise.
"Boswell," she whispered as she saw Arizona lift her head and heard her speak.
"What the hell! What are you doing here? You're not allowed to be here!"
"Her parents asked me to be in here. Arizona, I feel like you've been running away from me…"
"Running from you? I'm not running away, I simply don't want to see you, I've got nothing to say to you."
"Are you trying to tell me that you haven't been thinking about me? Because I have been thinking about you, Arizona. A lot…"
Callie stood in the gallery observing this scene, she looked at Arizona whose shoulders got tense now. Callie couldn't move, a part of her wanted to stay and see what would happen, she didn't quite understand why but for some reason she needed to see Arizona interact with this woman.
"Dammit," Arizona said focused on the surgery and started quickly working on the patient.
"Kelly clamp!" Callie heard her say and it seemed like she wasn't even aware of Boswell's presence anymore.
"There you are!" Callie heard Meredith's voice behind her, "What are you doing?"
Callie stood there with arms crossed, "I'm watching Arizona with Boswell."
"What!? I swear to God if Arizona hurts you again…" Meredith exclaimed and stepped closer.
"Shhh," Callie said as they heard Boswell speak again.
"Arizona, have you heard what I said?" Lauren asked.
"Suction!" Arizona said still focused on what she was doing.
Lauren stepped forward, "Arizona, are you listening to me?"
Arizona finally looked up, her eyes shooting daggers.
Okay, calm down, you can be professional about this, there are so many people in this room, don't make a scene, just be professional, Arizona thought trying to calm herself down even though she wanted to yell at this woman from the top of her lungs to leave her alone.
"Oh, wow, she's mad," Callie whispered.
"Like good mad or bad mad?" Meredith asked.
Callie looked at Meredith, "What do you mean?"
"Like, ummm," she hesitated, "well… never mind…"
"Out with it Mer?"
"It's better I not…"
"Oh come on, that's what friends are for…" Callie insisted.
"Okay, you're right. I meant, do you see any sexual tension?"
"Oh that," Callie looked at Arizona again, "No, no sexual tension, she's annoyed and really pissed, like stab you with a scalpel kind of pissed."
"Oh, okay, that's good then. No, wait! On second thought maybe not, should we go down there?" Meredith asked, now worried a bit.
"Is it weird that I don't want to move from here?" Callie said.
"I guess not…"
"It's just… I have seen Arizona with Boswell in my head and I think I need to see it for real, see what there is between them to kind of not wonder about it anymore..."
Meredith nodded her head, "Okay…"
"Arizona…" they heard Lauren say in a seductive tone.
This time Arizona lost control, she was trying to be professional but Boswell just went on and on in front of all these people and even dared to flirt with her in front of everybody.
"Oh my God! Seriously what is your problem! Because you clearly have one! I have a child opened on this table and you are talking about yourself."
"I am talking about us."
Arizona shot her eyes at Boswell again.
"Us!? There is no us! Are you delusional! We had sex once, it was thirty minutes in the on-call room, you are acting like we were a couple!"
Boswell got closer again.
"Maybe we should talk later in private and not in front of all these people."
"Everybody already knows what happened! I don't want to talk to you in private, I don't need to talk to you at all! You were a mistake and I have already paid too much for that mistake so if you'll please leave this room and let me work on my patient!" Arizona shouted.
"I can assist," Boswell said calmly.
"Oh for fuck's sake! Are you even listening to me! Do you understand that I am saying no to you!?"
"I don't take no for an answer."
"Do you even hear yourself? I am not interested in you, I am not attracted to you, I want you out of my OR and out of my life, or do I have to get a restraining order!?"
"Arizona, if you just listen to me…" Boswell tried again.
"Please page Dr. Karev, and if he's not out of surgery yet, page Dr. Bailey" Arizona said calmly.
"She's bringing in reinforcements," Meredith noted.
"I'm going down there!" Callie suddenly said and turned around to leave but Meredith caught her hand.
"Mer, let me go!" Callie whispered decisively.
"I know you want to go down there, I would want to do that in your place as well, but Callie, I really think Arizona needs to finish this, for her own sake and for both of you she needs to take care of this, let her take care of this…"
Callie sighed, "Okay, it's just me wanting to go and fix things…"
"Yeah, so just sit this one out and enjoy the view."
Callie chuckled as her eyes moved to left catching a glimpse of Alex Karev entering OR.
"You paged?" he asked coming closer.
"Alex, do you remember what you did with Dr. Stark once, in the OR?" Arizona asked.
Karev looked at her completely baffled, "Umm… yeah… what about that?"
"I need you to do a similar thing with Dr. Boswell, can you please escort her out of the OR?"
"Seriously Robbins? Do you think I'm some kind of a bully, a bouncer who can come here jeopardize his job to kick a woman out of the OR? I can already see lawsuits flaunting in my face!"
"Alex! Dr. Boswell is obstructing my surgery and she is jeopardizing my patient, I called you in because you are my friend and I trust you to have my back, and I need you to scrub in, but in order for me to focus fully on my patient I need Dr. Boswell to leave the room. Now if you can't do that I can page Dr. Bailey because the only other person I can ask is April and she is pregnant so I don't want to put her through any stress."
"Arizona, this is ridiculous," Boswell said and started making a few more steps towards Arizona.
Alex instinctively reacted and stepped in front of her.
"Look, Dr. I-don't-care-what-your-name-is, you should leave."
Boswell laughed, "Oh please, you were right, I will throw all sorts of lawsuits in your face if you touch me."
"I'm not going to touch you, I'm just not going to let you go past this point so if you want to go past, you will have to touch me and then I can throw a lawsuit in your face. Ha! How about that!"
"What is going on here?" Bailey asked entering, holding a mask to her face.
"Dr. Bailey, I need Dr. Boswell out of this OR, so please take her privileges and get her out because I need to focus on this patient and she keeps on distracting me!"
"Dr. Boswell?" Bailey asked with a stern voice.
"The parents wanted me to be in here."
"I'm sorry but according to our hospital's policy if you are not assisting in the surgery you cannot be here, so come with me please," Bailey said calmly.
"I think I'll stick around anyway."
"Dr. Boswell," Miranda said in a colder voice. "This is not a suggestion, this is an order, if you do not leave I will call security."
"Okay fine, I'll leave. I'll find you later Arizona," she said and walked out of the room.
Miranda directed her eyes towards Arizona, "Dr. Robbins, are you good to finish?"
"I'm good, Karev will assist, thanks Bailey."
"Okay, glove me," Karev said, "So where do you need me?" he asked.
Arizona sighed heavily and closed her eyes for a second.
"Robbins are you okay?"
"I'm fine, help me repair this bleed, I clamped it but I need a second pair of hands."
"Okay," he said and started working on the patient. After a few moments he spoke.
"What was that all about?"
"My past mistake coming back to haunt me…"
Alex looked at Arizona, "You made a mistake in a moment of weakness, that's all."
"Yeah, a mistake that I will be paying for the rest of my life", Arizona said with a sad sigh, "Let's just focus on the patient," she said.
Karev nodded his head, "Suction," he said and continued working on the patient silently.
Callie was standing alone in the gallery, Meredith left after Bailey exited the OR but Callie stayed to make sure that Arizona was really okay and that she would take control of the surgery. When she was sure Arizona had everything under control she smiled softly and left the gallery.
Forty-five minutes later Arizona entered the lounge and slumped on the sofa closing her eyes and exhaling heavily. She heard the door open but she didn't bother to check who it was. She felt someone sit down as the sofa moved slightly. She smiled as the familiar perfume hit her nostrils.
"Calliope…," she whispered and opened her eyes slowly.
She turned her head to the left, "You're a sight for sore eyes, Calliope."
Callie smiled and moved closer.
"Please kiss me," Arizona whispered placing her palm on Callie's left cheek.
"Are you okay?" Callie asked.
Arizona shook her head, "I don't know," she said and pulled Callie into a kiss, "But I am sure your lips will make me feel better," she smiled.
Callie let their lips meet and allowed Arizona to lead the way. She kissed Callie softly, tenderly brushing her lips against Callie's, savoring each touch while her fingers caressed Callie's neck.
After a few minutes their lips parted and Arizona leaned her forehead against Callie's and closed her eyes.
"Arizona…" Callie opened her mouth wanting to explain that she saw what happened when Arizona spoke.
"Boswell came to my OR… and I kind of made a scene…" Arizona said leaning back on the sofa, her eyes closed.
"I'm just glad you didn't stab her with the scalpel cause honestly for a moment there I was worried you might."
Arizona's eyes went wide in surprise as she looked at Callie again, "You saw that?"
Callie nodded her head, "I was in the gallery… since I didn't see you this morning I came to see if you were okay and I was up there when she showed up, so I… umm… I stayed…"
"You saw everything?" Arizona whispered.
Callie nodded her head.
"And heard everything?"
"Yes."
Arizona closed her eyes, "I'm sorry…"
"I'm not," Callie said.
"What?" Arizona opened her eyes wide with surprise.
"For a long time I couldn't get an image of you with her out of my mind, whenever I would think about you she would appear as well, the two of you in that on-call room that's all I could see in my head… and I think I needed to see your interaction with her to finally let that go completely," Callie explained and smiled softly.
"Really?"
"After today the only association that will come to my mind at the mention of Boswell will be the scene of you trying to stop yourself from stabbing her with a scalpel," Callie explained and laughed out loud.
"The thought actually did occur to me at one point," Arizona admitted.
"I'm actually really glad I got to witness this today because now I understand what happened that night and why it happened."
"You do?"
Callie nodded her head.
"She acted like you were a prey, and she was determined to do whatever it takes to get to you, and remembering the vulnerable state you were in three years ago… it's no wonder you caved."
"Callie, it's my own fault I went down that road…"
"Well, I'm not saying you're off the hook but now I realize there were two in that game and that she played a big part. I never considered that, I just blamed you, and our circumstances, I never blamed her, but she is the one who relentlessly went after a married woman. If she had a bit of human decency, she would have backed down, she did know you were married to me, right?"
Arizona nodded her head, "I told her, when she flirted with me and told me I had pretty eyes I told her I was happily married to the hot ortho surgeon that she had met, and I told her how pretty and magical your eyes are."
Callie smiled, "Can you take a lunch break soon?" she asked.
"Yes why?"
"Let's go to the beach," Callie suggested.
"The beach, now?"
"Yeah, let's take a short walk on the beach, let the wind flush yesterday and today out of us, and then later today we can also take Sofia down there again and take a walk together."
Arizona smiled, "Thank you!" she whispered.
"For what?"
"For knowing exactly what I need," she said leaning forward to kiss Callie's lips again.
"We have ten minutes" Callie whispered as she wrapped her arms around Arizona, leaning against her back.
"Okay," Arizona said with smile, caressing Callie's arms as the sight of the water in front of them calmed her emotions.
"Callie…"
"Hmm…"
"There is something about yesterday that has been bothering me," Arizona whispered.
Callie turned Arizona around, "What?"
"You left again…" Arizona whispered.
Callie sighed, "I know…, I still need to work on that, I didn't even realize what I was doing until you stopped me and reminded me about it. I have been thinking about that as well, I think I need to talk to Dr. Brown about it…"
"Well, I was thinking that maybe it wasn't fair to make you promise never to do that again, it's who you are, when you reach a point when your emotions are too strong you just storm out and it is a part of you, and you will need some time to control that so I was thinking that maybe you can promise me that if you feel the need to storm off, maybe you just try to remember how much I love you and how much you love me and it will help you calm down."
"I almost ran out after we had sex yesterday," Callie admitted.
"I know…" Arizona whispered.
"I was feeling so many things that I wanted to run away from, but your voice stopped me."
Arizona smiled.
"That's all I am asking for, think of me and my love in such moments, let me be the brake that slows you down and pulls you back into balance."
Callie smiled, "Something like team work."
"Yeah, something like that," Arizona nodded her head.
"Team Calzona," Callie said smiling broadly.
Arizona laughed, "Team Calzona…" she repeated, "I like that," she said wrapping her arms around Callie's shoulders pulling her close. "I love you," she whispered.
"I love you more…" Callie said kissing Arizona's lips.
Arizona laughed "That's not possible," she said and kissed Callie again.
"Of course it's possible," Callie teased.
"Are we gonna argue about that now?" Arizona said through laughter.
"Well, why not, we don't really argue anymore, we should argue about something," Callie teased.
Arizona slapped Callie's shoulder, "Nonsense! Will you just shut up and kiss me!"
Callie laughed, "Okay," she said as she wrapped her arms tightly around Arizona pulling her close and getting lost in the touch of Arizona's lips.
A/N: Okay maybe Boswell wouldn't act as crazy as I made her act especially inside the OR but hey, if Grey's can bring dead people back I can make someone a bit crazier for the purpose of the story ;-). I wasn't planning on finishing this chapter so soon but seeing how upset everyone was I couldn't leave you hanging, now the next chapter will take a few days longer as I need to focus on real life too LOL, but you can at least now be happy about team Calzona ;-).
