A/N: So here's the next chapter, hope y'all like it!
Abby sat there on the floor in front of the fireplace, confused for a moment before she snapped out of it and got up, running outside into the blizzard.
"Ellie!" She called, looking both ways through the falling snow, unable to locate the girl, "fuck!" She says, going back into the house to see Lev coming down the stairs, having heard the commotion.
"What's going on? Where's Ellie?" He asks, rubbing sleep from his eyes.
"Lev stay here. I need to go find her." Abby says, grabbing her own jacket before running back out, trying to adjust her eyes as the wind blew snow every which way.
Abby went left first, hoping if she walked far enough down the street she'd find Ellie's footprints before the snow covered them.
"Ellie!" She called, jogging through the town, her heart stopping when she saw a trail of blood in the snow, "no no no!" She says, following the blood until she came to a house that was partially collapsed. Abby hoped Ellie wasn't hurt and that the blood she saw was from an infected that crossed Ellie's path. Abby went around the back to go under the porch, finally seeing Ellie sitting on the ground, the only place that wasn't covered in snow.
"Why'd you run away?" She asks, quietly moving closer as to not scare Ellie, not wanting her to run again.
"We can't do this, Abby. We can't be together." Ellie says, shivering at the cold biting her skin.
"Why?"
Ellie got up and turned to face her and it was when she did this that Abby was able to take a look at her. Ellie's arms and clothes were covered in blood and Abby hoped to god that the blood wasn't Ellie's. Ellie was shivering and her eyes were red as if she'd been crying.
"You know why. We have too much bad history." She says as she looked at Abby, who didn't say anything as she approached Ellie, closing the distance and raising a hand to caress her face.
"We can make this work. If you're willing."
Ellie thought about it for a minute, "I'm willing to try if you are."
Abby nodded before pressing her lips to Ellie's, smiling into the kiss before pulling away and frowning at how pale Ellie looked, her lips turning blue from the cold.
"Here. You look like you're almost hypothermic." She says, taking her own jacket off and helping Ellie put it on.
"Thanks." Ellie says, starting to walk but stumbled to the ground and Abby looked at Ellie's feet to see she was barefoot.
"Really? You couldn't have grabbed your shoes before running out here?" Abby asks in disbelief, picking the smaller girl up before she could protest.
"I panicked. I didn't think before running out, I just wanted to get out of there." She says, putting her head against Abby's shoulder as they walked back to the house.
"Hey Lev! It's us, open the door!" Abby called, using her foot to kick the door as her way of knocking and Lev opened the door a minute later.
"What happened? Is she okay?" He asks as Abby puts Ellie on the couch.
"She'll be fine. Grab a blanket from one of the bedrooms." She says as she went to vigorously rub Ellie's feet to get the blood flowing back into them as Ellie sat up and took the jacket off despite Abby's protests, taking the blanket when Lev came back and offered it to her.
"What happened?"
"We'll tell you later. Why don't you go get some sleep? She'll be fine." Abby assured him, ushering him to go back to bed.
"Thanks for coming to find me." Ellie says, wrapping the blanket around her.
"Well I'm glad I did considering," Abby says, gesturing to the blood on Ellie's arms and clothes.
"It's not mine. Some infected jumped me when I was running." She says as Abby grabbed rags from her bag to clean the blood off her.
"You know, I used to think about punching you in the face a lot, especially in the beginning when I just wanted to avenge Joel. Sometimes I still do, but most days I just want to kiss you." She says as Abby wiped the blood from her face before looking at her.
"Well which is it now? Kiss me or punch me in the face?"
"I want to kiss you."
