*WARNING: Lots of Swearing in this chapter as a familiar face makes an appearance. There is also a slightly awkward scene at the end (well, awkward for Toshinori and Kiku anyway). It is a parent attempting to explain something of a delicate nature to a pre-teen child of the opposite gender. It is not meant to be misconstrued.

CHAPTER 13
Five days later, Corusca Childcare Center, Musutafu Prefecture, Japan…
Mitsuki hurried into the three-story building. She knew she was late, but she'd been distracted with her most recent design and had lost track of the time. She burst into the classroom expecting Mieko to tackle her legs as soon as she entered the room. She stopped in surprise to find the room empty except for Tanaka-sensei who was currently cleaning the blackboard. The teacher turned in surprise at her sudden entry before paling. Mitsuki looked around, wondering where her daughter was.
"Bakugou-san, h-how are you tonight?" The teacher stammered out, wiping chalk-covered hands on her gray pants. Mitsuki tried to avoid wrinkling her nose at that fashion faux pas.
"Running fucking late. Where's Mieko?"
"Who?" The teacher looked confused.
"My daughter, Mieko. Where is she?" Mitsuki asked, eyes searching the room once again.
"I-I think your son must have picked her up already?" Mitsuki wasn't sure if the woman was asking her or telling her.
"Katsuki? He would have texted me if he had." Just to be sure, she pulled out her phone. "Oi, brat," she spoke into the phone.
"What do you want, hag?"
"Are you and your sister home yet?"
At his mother's question Katsuki stared at the phone. Had she forgotten she was the one picking Mieko up? "Of course, I'm not fucking home. I'm at the park near our house right now; nowhere near her school. You said you were the one picking Mieko up today, isn't she with you?" Was she getting senile or something?
"The park, what are you doing there? I need you to head home, see if your sister is there. I'm at the school now. The teacher said they thought you had picked her up."
Katsuki snarled, "of course I didn't fucking pick her up. I thought you were supposed to." He ignored the first part of the question as irrelevant. A cold ball he refused to admit was fear coiled in his stomach and he felt the nitroglycerin building up on his palms.
"I need you to head home, see if your sister is there." Mitsuki was feeling frantic and she was too distressed to correct her son's rude remarks at the moment.
"I was going to meet up with friends- but I could head home if I fuckin' have to." The boy's voice was rough, but it was hiding a layer of fear. His baby sister was missing, the one person he cared about more than anything else. Katsuki's nose wrinkled at his next sentence, struggling to force the next words out. "I love you- I guess. I'll check the park before I leave."
"Yeah, yeah, you too, brat. Text me if she's not there when you get home. Alright, check the park then and stop by Tanaka-san's and see if she went home with little Koko-chan." She pocketed the phone and turned to the teacher.
"He never picked her up. Where iS MY DAUGHTER?" Anger amplified her voice, and she could feel glycerin sliding over the palms of her hands. What she wouldn't give to have Katsuki's quirk at a time like this. She took a menacing step forward. "Where. Is. My. Daughter, you bitch?"
The woman stood nervously poking her fingers together and refusing to meet Mitsuki's eyes, "Uh, funny thing that, yeah, uh well, wekindahaven'tseenhersincelunch."
"What? Repeat that last part and don't fucking mumble this time," Mitsuki growled out. She better not have heard what she thought she'd heard. Why couldn't she have Katsuki's quirk now of all times?
The teacher sighed and in a voice that could barely be heard whispered, "we haven't seen her since lunch."
"Why didn't you call me?" Mitsuki demanding leaning fiercely into the woman's space.
"Kitogawa-san, he said she'd probably gone home and not to worry you. He got angry when I insisted. I-I didn't want to lose my job," the woman wailed, collapsing in tears at Mitsuki's feet.
Anger and fear warred within Mitsuki. Where was her daughter? Had she walked home? Why would she have left at lunch? What was going on? "I want to talk to Kitogawa-san, now."
"He left for the day; I don't know where he lives."
"Then call him, you twit," Mitsuki hissed, pulling out her phone again.
The teacher nodded frantically, reaching into her desk and pulling out a cell phone.
Mitsuki opened the contacts on her phone and selected one. "Hello, Subaru-san? Hi, It's Bakugo Mitsuki. Did Mieko go home with little Sakura today?"
"No, I would have called you and asked first. Is everything alright?" The soft alto tones of her best friend washed over Mitsuki, calming her slightly.
"Sakura, darling, do you know who Mieko went home with today?" Mitsuki could hear the other woman asking on the other end. In the background she could hear the little girl saying something but couldn't make it out. The other woman came back on a moment later.
"She says she left at lunch with a girl claiming to be Katsuki's girlfriend. I didn't think Katsuki had a girlfriend." There was the slightest hint of a question in Momoko's voice.
"The brat doesn't have a girlfriend, at least not that I'm aware of. The teacher is trying to reach the principal. Stupid asshole told her she didn't need to call me when Mieko didn't turn up after lunch. I'm calling the fucking police. Thanks." Mitsuki hung up and turned expectantly to the teacher.
The younger woman dropped her eyes and shook her head. "He didn't answer. I left a voicemail."
Mitsuki pressed the emergency button on her phone.
"Hello, Musutafu police department, precinct 4415, this is officer Kaito, how can I help you?"
"I'd like to report a missing child."
"How old is the child?" the officer asked.
"five."
"How long has she been missing?" the officer's voice was gruff. Mitsuki idly wondered if he'd been smoking recently.
"Since lunch time."
"Why didn't you report it sooner?"
"Because I didn't fucking know." Came Mitsuki's terse reply.
The questioning continued on in the same vein for a few more minutes before the officer advised her that a detective was on his way.

Yamada-Aizawa residence later that evening…
Four adults and two pre-teens sat around the kitchen table reviewing the requirements for Toshinori once he was allowed to leave the hospital.
"Can I stay with him during nights? I can fix dinner for him and make sure he takes his medication in the evenings," Kiku asked, looking hopefully at Shouta and Hizashi.
"We might be able to work something out for that. What about your training group and school in the morning once break is over?" Shouta pointed out.
"I can adjust my schedule to cover the evenings when she has her training sessions," Hizashi offered. "I can take papers to grade or work on stuff for the radio show and make up a bunch of meals for him."
"I can help him during the day if someone can be available when I teach the U.A. Hopefuls," Sorahiko suggested, taking a bite of Taiyaki.
"I can help in the morning sometimes until school starts and then in the afternoons. He can help me with my English, and I can ask him to tell me stories of some of his hero fights. It will make him feel useful while he is recovering." Hitoshi offered. He enjoyed hanging out with the older man on occasion. The Symbol of Peace had a mischievous sense of humor that Hitoshi really liked. He dipped his peanut butter sandwich in his hot chocolate and took a large bite of it.
"And I will drop in every other day to check on him after work, make sure he is following the doctor's orders," Chiyo swiped a Taiyaki from Sorahiko's plate and bit into it. They were so cute together, Kiku thought, remembering back to the year before when she had been flower girl at their wedding. It was one of the only times she had willingly worn a dress. She had the now too small dress carefully packaged in a dress bag and hidden at the back of the closet. She still took it out from time to time just to look at it and remember.
"Why don't you take Mornings, Hizashi. Your first class doesn't start until eleven during the school year. You would have time to make him breakfast and prepare meals for the day. I could take the early evenings and overlap with Kiku. I could head straight out to my patrol afterwards. It would be closer to my patrol route. I would like to take the time to run some ideas I had for my heroics students by him." Shouta suggested. He was sipping a late-evening cup of coffee and nibbling on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich as they talked.
"Papa Hizashi, can you show me how to make some healthy meals that dad will be able to eat? I want to be able to take care of him." Kiku asked, spreading crunchy peanut butter on her taiyaki before taking a bite.

Dantoin Private Hero Hospital, a few days later…
Toshinori observed his daughter through lowered lids as he rested. Kiku spent as many hours as she could at his side, talking, reading to him or discussing heroes and new quirks she'd seen and how they could be applied in different situations. He found out that the comic she had been reading when he awoke was the first volume of 'She Hulk'. Apparently, his daughter felt she could relate with the young heroine in the comic. She'd asked him about the fight that put him in the hospital, but no matter how she begged he refused to tell her about his fight with All-for-One. She was too young for that discussion, hopefully many years too young. She knew about him, and knew he was behind the deaths of all of the previous One-for-All holders, but at ten she didn't need to know just how dark the world of heroics could get. There would be more than enough time for that discussion later.
Occasionally the others visited too. Torino proudly regaled him about the children's accomplishments. The old hero was beyond thrilled to be looked up to as a grandfather by both children. He was constantly spoiling them with gifts and treats. He had mellowed his teaching habits some over the years and was now overseeing a group of kids who trained together and called themselves the UA Hopefuls, a group both Kiku and Hitoshi were founding members of.
The old man talked to Toshinori about his recent marriage to UA's resident nurse, something that had occurred during one of the many occasions Toshinori was forced to be out of town on hero business. Toshinori blushed and occasionally wished at times that sensei would censor his descriptions. He was glad the old man wasn't so far gone as to mention some of the steamier details in front of the children. The number one hero now knew more than he'd ever cared to about the finer details of the old nurse's anatomy.
The other adults would visit for a few minutes from time to time, sometimes to talk about how the children were doing, other times just to relieve his boredom for a few minutes. Even Nighteye had dropped in once or twice to see how he was healing. Toshinori had acknowledged that Kiku was his daughter but hadn't divulged any further information to his former sidekick even though the younger man had hinted around the subject several times. The man had lost the right to more details years ago and even though they were now on talking terms, there was still a long way to go before the damage that was done to the trust and friendship between them could be repaired.
Young Hitoshi-kun was learning Parkour from Shouta and was excited to talk about finishing third in the National gymnastics' championship. He still looked like a miniature version of Hizashi right down to the leather jacket and tinted sunglasses. He'd begged on his last birthday to be allowed to get a piercing, but his two dads had vetoed that. He'd been advised to wait a few more years before asking to deface himself as Shouta referred to it. The boy had opened up a lot over the last few years of being around people that weren't afraid of his quirk. He chattered about his adventures with Kiku, Momo and even young Tenya and told him all about the young 'Shoto' boy who had seen them training at the park one day and followed them to training. The same boy showed up to the UA Hopefuls group on occasion and was always staring at Kiku. Shoto…Shoto…the name seemed familiar but Toshinori couldn't remember where he'd heard the name before and wondered why the boy was watching his daughter. He made a note to ask Sorahiko to keep an eye on the young man just in case.
It had taken a while for Hitoshi to warm up to Tenya. The boy was a bit bossy and stuck on rules, though he had begun to mellow out a bit under Kiku's influence. He still didn't hesitate to call someone out when he thought they were wrong and was still prone to tattle from time to time. He never did it to be hateful or spiteful, he was just programmed to go to authority figures if something didn't add up in his world. While Hitoshi had at first been justifiably angered at the way Tenya was always tattling to the teacher anytime Kiku broke something or was using a new adaptive item, Kiku had taken it as a challenge to befriend the earnest boy. He was immensely proud of her for that decision.
The lesson Kumonori-sensei had taught in their first year at Somei on understanding quirks had gone a long way in helping the entire class see all quirks in a better light – especially Hitoshi's brainwashing quirk.
Toshinori's thoughts focused on the memory of that lesson as Kiku stepped out of the room for a few minutes and the nurse came in to start him on his physical therapy…
Kumonori-sensei had enlisted his and Present Mic's help for one of the days she was teaching about quirks. Each child had come forward and explained their quirk. They were even allowed to show it off to the others as there were two registered pro-heroes on site in case of accidents. After each child came up the class was asked to come up with 3 ways in which any child's quirk could be used in heroics, even if that child didn't plan to go into the field of heroics.
Kiku explained how her quirk was a mutation that couldn't be turned off, but some aspects could be stopped in the right circumstances. She talked about how careful she had to be to ensure she didn't hurt people or break things with her overwhelming strength and was trying to learn how to control and turn down her quirk. The class discussed how her strength and other abilities could be applied to rescues, disaster relief and subduing villains.
Momo had discussed creation. All of the students in the class had agreed it was the most flexible and versatile of the quirks presented that day. They had talked about the drawbacks as well as a few of the ways to apply the quirk to Heroics, especially as a support hero. Momo talked about how she wanted to go to UA, but hadn't decided if she wanted business, support or heroics.
Takamitsu Koumori had explained about his quirk 'bat'. A mutation quirk that gave him bat-like ears. He talked about how he was very near-sighted and how the echolocation ability his quirk gave him allowed him to avoid objects, especially in the dark where his vision was the worst. He talked about the drawbacks (sensitive hearing), and the ways he could use his quirk as a rescue hero. He even bragged about being on the recommended list for Ketsubutsu Academy due to one of his aunts being a pro-hero teaching at that school.
Toshinori had dodged several questions directed to him about his quirk, not wanting to lie, but knowing he had to say something, he simply explained that his quirk made him strong, fast and durable. To his relief the children had been satisfied with that response.
It wasn't until Present Mic explained some of the drawbacks of his own quirk as well as some of the problems he had experienced as a child due to the nature of his quirk that Hitoshi finally got up the courage to talk about his quirk. The child had been stunned at how welcoming the class was.
Only one or two students had made negative comments but were quickly shut down by the teacher and the pros. It wasn't even Kiku who mentioned all of the heroic uses brainwashing could be put to. It was Tenya who came up with the first one – talking a suicide jumper off of a roof, bridge, etc. Tenya explained how he'd overheard his older brother Tensei discussing a recent attempted suicide incident with an intern. Hearing about Hitoshi's quirk had prompted the idea. The only reason Tensei had been able to save the jumper was because he was fast enough to catch the young man after he had jumped. Tenya thought that if they'd had a quirk like Hitoshi's available, they might have been able to talk the boy into coming down the safe way.
In all, it had been a productive class session and every child had been able to go home and brag about the Autographed Present Mic CD and the All Might action figure (also autographed) they'd gotten that day.

"Dad, what does it mean when someone says, 'blow me?'" Kiku asked as she left the hospital with Toshinori on the day he was being discharged.
The hero choked on blood and glanced up at his daughter. After a small coughing fit, he asked, "Where did you hear language like that?"
"Tenya-kun was telling off some kid at the park who had been fighting another kid and the boy told him to blow him. Tenya wouldn't tell me what it meant, so I thought I'd ask you," the greenette twisted her hands nervously. From the bright shade of red Tenya had turned when she'd asked, Kiku had already figured out that whatever it meant wasn't good, but the curiosity was eating at her.
All Might sighed, tucking away the bloody handkerchief and massaging his temples. He knew this discussion was coming. He'd already been informed by Aizawa, Yamada and Torino that he would be the one giving his daughter 'the talk'. Recovery Girl had laughed him out of her office when he'd tried to foist it off on her. Maybe Miss Midnight would be willing to talk to her about it. She'd definitely be a better option than he would. He hoped. Thinking back to the woman who had been throwing herself at him every chance she could, he changed his mind. Maybe Midnight wasn't the best option after all.
"I will explain when we are home. Are you sure you want to stay with me while I'm recovering at home?"
His daughter nodded, "I'm going to take care of you, daddy. I'm a pretty decent cook now. Papa-Hizashi has been teaching me and the doctor gave me a list of foods you can and cannot eat and when to start you back on solid foods. She lectured me for half an hour on portion sizes. We are all going to take turns helping you get better. I will be there at night with you and most evenings." She was striding quickly down the parking lot in an All Might t-shirt and navy shorts, pushing his wheelchair toward where Hizashi-kun was waiting with his convertible. He filed a mental note to ask Recovery Girl to take her shopping for some necessary items. His daughter was growing up so fast.
)-O-(
It frustrated Toshinori to no end that he could barely do anything for himself. He'd been ordered to use the wheelchair any time he wanted to do anything for the next two weeks. For a man who had been active his entire life, being confined to a wheelchair made him want to scream. He cursed All-for-One, he cursed his impulsiveness and he cursed whoever had infiltrated Wash's agency to feed him the false information. He sat beside the couch in his wheelchair and clicked on the news. Rain in the forecast. Okay, he didn't plan to go anywhere in the next few weeks anyway. He watched the newscaster report on his supposed appendectomy which was said to have him 'off the clock' for the next few weeks. He'd figure out when he'd be able to go back to work after his 8-week follow-up with Chiyo and Doctor Shūfuku.
The smell of cooking chicken and rice wafted in from the kitchen, distracting him from the news. He frowned when he realized he wouldn't actually get to eat either. Instead, he would get broth blended with the vitamin powders Recovery Girl had brought over earlier in the day. Kiku came into the room a few minutes later carrying a large tureen of soup to the table. As she passed the back of the sofa, she nudged the yellow sleeping bag with her foot. "Wake up Papa Shouta, dinner is ready."
As the underground hero grumbled and rolled out of his sleeping bag, Kiku returned to the kitchen, coming back a few minutes later with a variety of dishes and utensils. Ladling soup into two of the bowls, she pulled the third bowl to her and added a large scoop of powder from a canister labeled 'Vitamin Supplements'. Once that was done, she set a strainer across the bowl and carefully ladled soup into the strainer.
Toshinori wheeled himself to his place at the table as she finished blending the vitamins into the soup broth and placed it in front of him. "Itadakimasu!" They exclaimed as the three of them dug into their food. Toshinori hummed in surprise at the first sip of soup. His daughter was a surprisingly good cook and had even managed to make chicken soup, a dish he'd always found mildly unfulfilling, quite palatable.
An announcement from the television had them turning in their seats.
"BREAKING NEWS – PRESIDENT OF THE HERO COMMISSION FOUND DEAD IN HER OFFICE. THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL ONGOING REGARDING THE RECENT DEATH OF PRESIDENT DAITAN CHIKAKO WHO WAS FOUND DEAD BY JANITORS IN HER OFFICE EARLY THIS MORNING. FOUL PLAY IS SUSPECTED AND POLICE ARE CURRENTLY ON SCENE."
The announcement had soup spraying out of Toshinori's mouth. He reached into the pocket of his sweatpants for his phone, looking over at Shouta who was glancing between the television and him with concern. Unlocking his phone, he speed-dialed Sorahiko-sensei.
"Sensei? Are you watching the news? Good. Can you put me on speaker phone please? Hi, Chiyo-san, can you hear me?"
"Yes, I can hear you just fine sonny. Are you doing okay? You haven't pulled your stitches have you?" The old nurse asked.
"I am fine. You remember what we talked about last year." Toshinori asked, glancing worriedly at Kiku who was watching him with concern.
"The contingency plans? What about them?" She asked.
"You can't tell me Daitan-san, one of the few people who knows the truth about several of my secrets being murdered shortly after I was ambushed is a coincidence." Toshinori could hear the panic in his voice but couldn't seem to stop it from leaking into the conversation.
"Now don't go jumping to conclusions, we still don't know yet if she was murdered." Sorahiko interjected. Toshinori could hear him crunching on something, probably Taiyaki.
"I have a bad feeling this wasn't natural. The timing is too close to the ambush for my comfort," Toshinori argued, broth forgotten.
"Are you sure you want to do this? I think we should at least wait until we know more." Shouta stated, laying his spoon beside his bowl and pulling out his phone from an invisible pocket in his costume. He began texting, thumbs rapidly bouncing across the screen.
"I would feel better if we implemented the idea Chiyo and I discussed last year. I'm getting a bad feeling about all of this and if she was murdered, we don't know how much information her murderer might have obtained before she was killed." Toshinori argued, taking another small sip of his broth.
"Maybe you are right. It couldn't hurt. Have Shouta-kun bring Kiku-chan by the school tomorrow and we will get it taken care of. Include Hitoshi too, he's close enough to everyone to be a target as well. Have a good night, sonny and try not to worry too much, it isn't good for you."

Chiba prefecture, Japan…
"The American did his job perfectly. Were you able to find the information I was looking for?"
"No, doctor. I found the birth certificate and her quirk registry, but the father's name and her current whereabouts are redacted, even with my superior skills I was unable to discover it."
"How can that be? You are supposed to be the best Hacker in Japan. Never mind, did you find any connection between her mother and Shimura Nana?"
"No, she's not related that I can see. Daitan must have suspected someone would go looking. She was one of only 3 people with enough clearance to completely wipe information from government records and unfortunately her quirk works on electronics too."
"Then it must be through her father she is related. There must be record of who he is somewhere. FIND IT. Check the school near where the video was taken. I won't tolerate any excuses, and neither will Sensei when he wakes up. Kurogiri will see you out."
The moment the hacker had departed, Doctor Garaki hurled a paperweight at the wall beside the door and screamed in frustration. Shimura's missing grandchild had to be somewhere. Sensei would reward him well if he located her. Given the apparent age in the video he assumed she would be starting high school in a year or two. He needed to find out where she was going so, they could get a spy in place.
He looked over to the hospital bed Sensei was strapped to, still in a coma, life support apparatus connected to his body in several places. "I'll find her for you," he promised. Flopping back down in his chair, he pulled up his email and opened a new message.
Find out everything you can about the child in the video you sent Sensei three years ago. The name of her father and her current location have been erased.
Sensei is still in a coma but is healing well. How is your charge doing?

Mid-evening, Toshinori's apartment…
"Kiku," Toshinori turned to his daughter who was drawing in one of her hero notebooks. When she looked up, he continued, "you asked about something earlier. I think I'm ready to try and explain it to you. Come sit down."
Kiku padded over in her footed All Might Pajamas and plopped down on the couch beside her father's wheelchair. Thanking the fact that all of his furniture was already heavy duty to accommodate his stature, he took a deep breath.
"How much human anatomy have they covered at Somei?"
"Uh, we've gone over the basics of the human body parts, why?" Kiku replied, genuinely curious as to where this was going.
"Well, it ties into your question from earlier. The term 'blow me' is a rude term. It refers to, uh," he paused, struggling to find the right way to explain this to his almost eleven-year-old daughter. "Well, uh, you know how cousin, Melissa is always crushing on a boy?" At her nod he continued, fingers plucking at the red and blue plaid blanket draped over his lap.
"Well, sometimes when a boy and a girl, or even sometimes two boys or two girls, I guess, like each other like, well like a boyfriend and girlfriend like each other, they uh, they..." he could feel the sweat trickling down the back of his shirt. How he wished Inko was here to explain this to her. He sighed wistfully and decided to bite the bullet and get it all out. "they want to uh, explore each other's bodies… Without clothes."
"Why would they want to do that? What does that have to do with blowing on someone?" Kiku was getting frustrated with her father's explanation...and a little disturbed at the idea of seeing some boy's parts. It was bad enough she'd accidentally walked in on Hitoshi once about a year ago while he was in the bathroom and discovered boys were formed weirdly.
"Well, the term 'blow me,' it uh, it - itreferstosomeoneputtingtheirmouthonanother'sboystuff." He forced all of the words out in one last gasp of air, face beet red at having to have this discussion with his daughter.
Kiku took a moment to try and parse out that last run-together sentence. A look of horror and revulsion crossed her face. "Gross! Why would anyone want to put their mouth there? Don't boys pee out of that thing? EEEEWWW!"
Toshinori smothered a laugh at Kiku's reaction. That was way harder than he had expected it to be, but then he'd been hoping he'd find someone else, preferably a woman, to explain this to her.
"EEEEWWW! Dad, that's gross. D-did you and mom ever...never mind, I don't want to think about it; I am so sorry I asked that question. Can we talk about something else now?" Kiku whined, a pleading look warring with the revulsion on her face.
Toshinori laughed awkwardly and shooed her off to bed, thankful his daughter was still at the age where boys weren't interesting as anything other than friends. He feared that time would be over all too soon.
