Metamorphosis 30
Matt quickly closed the chat on his phone when he heard Mello coming into their room. He had been in contact with Mello's brother for quite a while now, letting him know about everything that had happened and trying to figure the best way to surprise Mello at graduation in a few days. They were finalizing everything when he heard Mello come in.
"Took you long enough," he said as he stuck his phone into his pocket.
"You can't rush perfection," Mello said walking over to him.
"Perfection? You were just getting measured for your robes!" Matt laughed. "It's not like they had to measure your dick or anything," he chuckled.
"Good thing or I'd still be there," Mello laughed as he pulled Matt to him for a kiss. "It was just really busy," he answered.
"I told you to come with me early this morning," Matt scolded when Mello pulled away, "It only took me 20 Minutes."
"I didn't want to get up that early when I didn't have to," Mello told him as he lay down on the bed and yawned. "I can't believe this is almost over…just a few days…" Matt nodded his agreement as he sat down next to him on the bed.
"It's been an experience this year," he sighed, "I'm only glad the worst is behind us; months behind us." Mello nodded with a deep sigh.
"That's the truth," he said, "I still have a hard time believing it all happened until we go visit BB; then it all slaps me in the face again."
"I know, but he's doing really well these days," Matt reminded him. "He actually seems more relaxed than I can remember him ever being." He said and Mello laughed.
"You'd be relaxed too if you were on the meds he's on," he said, "But they do seem to be helping. "A told me they're thinking of giving him some time out of the hospital, like to go out to lunch or something; supervised of course at first."
"That makes sense, don't want to push him too hard right away," Mello agreed. "Speaking of A, would you ever have believed he would have come out as strong as he has? He's got a new purpose now, keeping up with BB."
"And he's doing it really well. He made sure BB kept his grades up so he could graduate with us…so to speak. He's planning something for him to be able to share it since he really isn't ready for all of that.
Matt said.
"Really? Do you know what he has in mind?" Mello asked.
"Not really. But he does want to do something that includes all of us as much as possible, as close to what he thinks it might have been if things were different."
Mello ran his fingers thru Matt's hair. "Thank you for being his friend, he really needed someone he could confide in during this whole thing." He said.
"Well, we started before everything happened, so I just kept up with him. He's had some shaky times but he's hanging in there. Wammy's going to let him stay here while BB gets better," he added, "That takes a lot of pressure off of him right now too."
"Yea, I overheard them talking about that at our last meeting, that is a good thing. The only unanswered question right now is what Lawliet's going to do. Is he ever going to deal with this or just continue to pretend like BB doesn't exist?"
Matt shrugged. "I don't know," he said. He never talks about it with anyone, I don't even think he talks about it with Light. But…I guess they'll figure it out. The do seem to be almost as happy as we are, though." He added with a smile.
"Almost," Mello said, "No one's as happy as we are," he said before pulling him in for a kiss. "I think I forgot to do something today," he said after he kissed him.
"What did you forget?" Matt asked before kissing him back.
"To fuck you," Mello chuckled reaching down and grabbing Matt's crotch, making him moan softly.
"By all means, don't let me hold you…back…" he managed before Mello attacked him.
"I think it will be fun, you can't work all the time Lawliet," Light was saying as they walked back into their apartment. "Graduation ceremonies are not a waste of time."
"It is a waste of my time," Lawliet answered as he walked past Light and to his desk. "Parading across a stage in a gown to pick up an unnecessary piece of paper that says I've graduated. Of course, I graduated, I don't need a piece of paper to tell me that." Light chuckled as he walked to the fridge to get them a drink.
"That isn't the point," he said as he handed L his drink. "It's about celebrating your achievements, recognition for what you've accomplished and sharing it with fellow students, friends, family…" he stopped. "Well, fellow students and friends anyway, I won't have any family in attendance, "he said softly, the estrangement from his family still painful. Lawliet looked up at him and took his hand.
"I'm so sorry, Light. It's their loss they won't share this with you," he stood up to kiss him softly. "And I'm sorry I'm the reason you lost them. I'll be there with you; we'll share it together as we have no one else." He kissed him again. "We don't need anyone else." Light smiled and put his arms around Lawliet, holding onto him tightly.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get into this," he said, "It wasn't you, this had been coming a long time between me and my father thee moment he suspected I was gay. But it just suddenly hit me that this isn't the way we'd planned graduation to happen and I…I do miss them, especially Sayu." He pulled away. "Sayu and I still text, but it's not the same as being able to see her and knowing I probably won't be able to for a long time…" he stopped to keep himself under control. Lawliet kissed him again and then pulled away.
"At least you've been able to keep up with her. I'm sure you'll be able to see her sooner than you think, anyway," he said. Light nodded and then looked at him seriously.
"I know your mother said she couldn't make it and your father really hasn't said much to you after the whole thing with BB but…have you thought about seeing B…" Lawliet shook his head almost violently.
"I told you I want nothing more to do with him, ever." He said turning away and going back to his desk.
"I know but…you know he wasn't in his right mind; he never would have done what he did…"
"And that is why I didn't press charges against him; but it doesn't mean I have forgiven him for almost taking you away from me, nor do I want to give him the opportunity to try again at a later date." Lawliet snapped.
"That's the point I'm trying to make, that's not going to happen again; he's better now and will continue to get better. I don't expect you to hang out with him, you never did anyway, but just to acknowledge him. Not so much for him, but it would be good for you to help you get past this too."
"I've asked you not to talk to me about this, Light," Lawliet said without turning around, "Just because you're upset about not being able to be with your sibling doesn't mean you can use that as some bridge to my situation. Your sister did not try to murder you, she's merely a victim of circumstances beyond her control. Please leave it."
"I'm sorry, I just don't want you to be stuck in this, and I think the best way to move past it is to deal with him…if only to just see him." Lawliet suddenly turned on him angrily.
"I have told you no, Light! I have no desire to see him, why can't you understand that and leave me alone about it?" he turned and sat back down at his desk. "I have work to do." He said simply and ended the conversation.
"Fine," Light said, "I'll leave you to it then." He turned and walked out of the apartment.
