CHAPTER 30
Before Harry parted ways with Kakashi, he made sure to take a calming potion with him just in case. The wizard briefly toyed with the idea of drinking one such potion himself. That was quickly discarded since he wanted to be alert when he had to speak to Teddy. A 'Point me spell' , a 'Notice-me-Not' spell and one quick use of Apparition later, Harry found himself outside of his godson's apartment and about to knock on the door, before he had to stop, take another deep breath and gather his thoughts.
His shock at the news was still strong. At some point Harry knew that he would also need to speak with Ron about this, but that was a matter that could be dealt with much later.
Harry bit worried his lip a bit, before deciding to just go ahead. He knocked on the door and seconds later he dropped the spell that kept him concealed.
"Harry? What's the matter?" Teddy asked as he recognized his godfather from the smell before he even saw the man.
He motioned him further inside the apartment and easily accepted the tight hug the older wizard gave him, enjoying the contact, until his sensitive nose caught just what the micro-smells he was scenting meant.
"You smell distressed," Teddy remarked.
"It's because today has been a very stressing day," Harry replied. "I need to speak with you. It's big and it is urgent and I need you to drink a 'Calming Draught' before I even consider starting to tell you. And before you panic and start asking a million questions, no, nothing wrong with me, or Kakashi, or anyone else we know. Please?"
Teddy reached for the potion offered to him without a question.
After he drank it, accompanied by a slight grimace at the taste, he allowed Harry to herd him to the table and the sat next to each other. He felt the potion kick in soon enough and the artificial haze of calmness dulled everything he currently felt.
"Did the potion take?" Harry asked.
"It did," the young Jonin confirmed. "Otherwise I would be too anxious to stay still. I can still smell how worried you are and it was making me antsy."
"Good, good. So… There is no easy way to say this. You remember the Black Family Tapestry? Remember what it shows?"
Teddy nodded his head slowly.
"Back at the ancestral Black house in London, yes. It shows people with Black blood, up until a point of separation. You and I are both featured up there. What about it?"
"The Tapestry shows that you have progeny," Harry stated in a matter of fact tone. "Ron noticed and called me. We have no idea when the new branch showed up, but without a doubt we know that someone out in the Elemental Nations is carrying a child with your DNA," Harry finished.
Teddy blinked. He started feeling an onset of various emotions, panic, fear, shame, denial and more panic before more base emotions due to his feral nature started emerging. Then the potion kick in (and he nearly sobbed in relief that Harry knew him enough to have the potion ready) and artificial calmness surrounded him. He tried to speak up, but found that he could not utter a word.
Harry seemed to sense just how lost he felt, because in the next moment his godfather was hugging him tightly and using his scent to calm the teen down.
"We will figure this out," the green-eyed wizard stated as he hugged him closed. "I'm here and we will figure everything out. Alright? The potion will keep you from panicking. Just know that I love you and I am here for you."
Teddy nodded against his godfather's chest and started hugging back, needing the comfort that was offered.
They remained that way for several minutes before Harry started speaking again. He still would not let Teddy out of his embrace. Instead he just assumed a more soothing voice.
"Kakashi knows as well. He was there when Ron called me. He deduced readily enough that this took place while you were away on mission, seemingly knowing that you are not in any relationship with anyone currently in the village. Is he correct?" Harry asked.
"We… talked," Teddy whispered. "I couldn't… I could not tell you."
"Sh, I know. You don't have to tell me everything, cub. I'm happy that you felt comfortable enough to talk to Kakashi. He's both your family and your teacher. I'm glad you told him, I'm never going to be angry or jealous over that. Alright?"
"Alright," Teddy agreed, sagging against him just a little bit more. "You still smell anxious though."
"It's because the problem is a bit more complex, because we're magical," Harry explained. "I want to do what is best for you first, and then for the family. And after that, we have to contend with Konoha as well."
"Because you are a citizen and I'm Shinobi," Teddy replied.
"And Kakashi, he's in a very difficult spot," Harry commented. "He loves us both but…"
"He loves Konoha as well," the younger wizard replied. He understood. If anyone asked him, he was more loyal to his Village than he was to the country he was born in.
Harry nodded in agreement. "He does, and yet he will try and do what's best for this situation, for you and for the village. He is now speaking with Naruto and Tsunade."
Teddy tensed again. "They want me to report to them, don't they?"
"They do," Harry confirmed. "And I will be there as well."
"As my Clan Head and because you know more about magic than me," Teddy commented.
"Exactly."
"Do we have to go right now?"
"I'd prefer to have you do this before the Calming Draught' stops working," Harry told his godson. "But we have a few more minutes," he told the youth and allowed Teddy a few more minutes of calmness.
