There were several empty barrels around Ban's table, as he and Helbram had played their drinking game all night. Ban wasn't completely drunk yet. Helbram, however, was very drunk.
A blush colored the fairy's face, as he joyfully hugged Ban saying,
"Hey, hey Baaaannnnnnn~ do you think Harlequuuiiiinn will be back soon?! I miss him."
He pouted, but joyfully.
Ban laughed.
"Um, I think it's...What time is it again?"
"It's like… night-dark time."
Helbram answered as he picked up his mug and drank from it.
Ban laughed as he did the same.
Gilthunder and his buddies walked in, approaching the pair. Howser was pushed forward.
Ban and Helbram stopped laughing and looked at him.
Howser addressed Helbram, saying begrudgingly,
"Uh Helbram, I'm… sorry. About earlier today, I just wanted to-"
Helbram floated upward, his wings fluttering up and down. He spoke, cutting Howser off mid-sentence,
"Hey, your that dumb human for eailer~! What did you want? Sorry…. Oh, right, right earlier today, yeah! Yeah! IfyouevertouchmeagainI'llslityourthoartandleaveyourcorspe…
Innnnn theriver~"
Helbram's last sentence was slurred as he smiled happily at Howser.
Howser understood the threat completely. He looked at the drunken fairy, a mix of fear and amusement on his face.
Gilthunder placed his hand on Howser's shoulder. He stepped forward, asking the drunken pair,
"Ban, Helbram, may we join you?"
Howser glared at Gilthunder in disbelief.
He's going to get me killed!
"Baannnn~ make them go away! I don't liiikke them!... I never liked them."
Helbram grabbed onto Ban's arm, nuzzling it as he whined.
Ban just grinned at the trio.
"Sorry guys, the prince~ has spoken. Away with you~."
Ban waved his hand at them in dismissal.
Helbram yelled,
"Prince? Yeah, princess! Away! Away!"
Helbram waved his hand at them too, as he laughed. The three gazed at the fairy as they headed to a table across the room.
Ban looked at Helbram, grabbing him and dropping him back into his seat. He asked,
"Hey, what's the most embarrassing thing about King?"
Helbram gave him a devilish smile as he leaned in close, loudly whispering,
"He doesn't have wings~! And that time he ran into a tree, and a beehive fell on him. Or maaaybe that time he fell in the river and then got swept away by the current?"
Ban laughed. Only stopping to drink more ale.
Helbram slurred,
"You areturned!"
"Okay, okay. I once stole all the teddy bears in the kingdom to cuddle them 'cause I missed Elaine~!"
Helbram whined, pulling on Ban's arm.
"That's not embarrassing enough!"
"Okay, okay. I slipped in the kitchen and stabbed myself in the heart. When I fell I also got a knife stabbed in my eye."
Helbram burst out laughing at Ban, and instantly, Ban joined in.
Just then, King and Diane came into the tavern. Helbram yelled out, as he flew over to them, hugging and nuzzling King's chest.
"HARLEEQUINNN~!"
King stared at him, a slight blush on his cheeks.
"Helbram, you're still awake? I thought you would have-"
Helbram cut him off, gazing at him lovingly.
"How was the date with the cutie-giant? I mean giant-cutie! Was it fun? I bet it was fun! Right~?! You probably had so much fun! Tellmetellme! Please~?"
Helbram nuzzled into King again, and King's face turned a bright shade of crimson.
Diane spoke up,
"It was fine, but you seem to be-"
Helbram stopped and pulled his head up gazing at her. The annoyance was evident on his face as he cut her off,
"Cutie, I'm not talking to you... Am I?"
He asked, bringing a finger up to his lips in a questioning daze.
King's blush fell as he glared over to Ban. He quickly understood why Helbram was acting so bubbly.
"Ban, you got Helbram drunk!?"
Ban grinned as he raised his mug to King.
"Nah~. I gave him liquid courage!"
Daine made her way over to Ban questioning,
"Courage for what?"
"You'll see~!"
King stared daggers at Ban, but he quickly turned his attention back to Helbram, who was now holding onto his hand.
Helbram gazed at King's hand, a somber expression crossed his face.
"*hic* Hey Harleeequin~. You like the giant-cutie, right?"
King blushed, not sure where Helbram was going with this. Helbram was excited a moment ago, even if it was spurred on from the liquor he drank. King asked,
"What's wrong Helbram? Is the liquor making-"
"Harlequin~!"
Helbram yelled as he gazed into King's eyes, a loving gleam twinkling in his own. A mix of joy and fear raced through Helbram as he spoke again,
"I have to tell you, and I'm sorry but I-I-I…"
King's face heated up, and Helbram let go of his hand. He raised his arms up and gently cupped King's face in his hands, yelling,
"HARLEQUIN, I LOVE YOU!"
Helbram pulled King in close, the gap between them closed as their lips met. Helbram closed his eyes, and his top set of wings fluttered up.
King was shocked, his mind went blank as his face turned as red as a rose.
Diane's jaw dropped.
Ban yelled out jovially,
"Yeah, Helbram! Go for it!"
The rest of the tavern looked over at the scene, drunkenly cheering, not understanding what was going on.
Diane picked up the mug that sat next to Ban and dipped it into his open barrel of ale. She proceeded to drink, slamming the mug down as she finished. She asked Ban,
"Is that what you meant?! You got his friend drunk so he could tell him that he loves him and then kiss him?!"
Ban looked over to Diane.
"Yeah~! Why? Did King ask you to be his girlfriend? 'Cause I told blondie that he had to tell King how he felt, so King can decide for himself what to do about his feelings for you and Helbram."
Diane blushed at Ban and punched his arm.
"What? Well no but.. ugh, you're a really good friend, you know that."
Ban rubbed the spot she hit saying,
"I knooow~!"
The kiss felt like an eternity to Helbram, as he finally decided to pull away from King. He gave King the brightest smile.
"I've been in love with you for 350 years. Those 500 years I thought you were dead… that was the lowest point in my life... as you know. Then you killlled me, and I wasn't even in your life for 200 years. Now I'm here and don't know when I'll die again but~ I really had to tell you. I couldn't let it sit anymore because-"
Tears started to fall from Helbram's eyes, but soon his fears subsided. He spoke happily again.
"It really hurts to let it build, I want you to be happy but I... Just wanted to be happy myself, which is why I had to tell you. I know it was selfish after you just got back from your date but... If I didn't say anything now, I never would have. I-"
Helbram stopped and gazed at King in awe.
King's whole face was now red. The shock was evident as blood started to pour out of his nose.
Helbram gasped in fear as he yelled to Ban, sobbing,
"BAN, I BROKE HARLEQUINN! What do I do now!?"
King didn't hear anything that Helbram had said, his mind kept repalying the kiss, seemingly stuck. His cheeks got hotter as he relished in delight.
Ban got up and stumbled his way over to them.
Helbram let go of King and looked to Ban, tears and worry on his face.
Ban waved a hand in front of King, asking,
"King~?! You there? You good? You alive?"
King stammered, nothing leaving his lips as he fell onto the floor with a thud.
Ban glared at King.
Helbram floated over beside Ban, looking down at King.
"Did I kill him?"
Worry laced Helbram's voice.
Ban bent over, picking King up as he spoke,
"Nah~, he's ok. He just passed out from… happiness, I think. I'm going to put him to bed."
Ban slung King over his shoulder and carried him over to the stairs.
Helbram went back over to Ban's table and sat next to Diane. He took Ban's mug, looked into it, and drank the whole thing in one go. He then looked at Diane, saying,
"I'm sorry, I know it's an unrequited love… Harlequin doesn't like me that way. He loves you!"
Helbram buried his face into the table, wrapping his arms around his head.
Diane just stared at him in confusion.
I know he's drunk, but he cares about how I feel more than how he should feel… Does he already know King would reject him? It might be because he's drunk that he's overthinking things.
Diane patted Helbrams head, he glanced up at her.
"Hey, you don't know what King will do. Just relax and wait 'til morning."
Helbram stared lazily at Diane. He yawned.
"But HARLEquin likes you, giant-cutie. You're his mega cutie. I'm just his best friend! He doesn't like me the way he likes you."
Helbrams voice fell as he spoke, sleep was overtaking him.
Diane gazed at him, whispering to herself,
"Harlequin? I know that name. He's said it before too, during their battle. Why do I know that name?"
