Chapter 12

Amber was walking the halls of the hospital on the way to the PEDS ward. She needed to talk with Arizona. She walked up to Arizona's office and knocked a few times. She heard Arizona tell her to come in. She opened the door. She was kind of nervous. Arizona looked up from the chart she was working on. 'Oh, hey Amber.' she said.

'Um…hey. Do you have a minute?'

'Sure, what's up?' she put her pen down and looked up to see that Amber was unusually nervous.

'Ok, so, I owe you an apology. Many many apologies.' she began.

Arizona was confused. 'Apology about what? What did you do?'

'I didn't do anything intentional, but I have just had my ass handed to me by Bailey and she made me realize some things. So I am here to apologize.' Amber said.

Arizona was really confused now. 'You'll have to explain what is going on because I have no idea what you are talking about.'

Amber took a deep breath and sat down in a chair opposite Arizona's desk. She cleared her throat. 'Me and Bailey were talking and somehow we got on the topic of relationships. She was saying how sometimes we hurt other people without meaning to and things may seem innocent, but they are not so innocent and can create a big mess. She made sure that she was looking into my eyes the whole time. It was kind of scary. She said that there may also be people who do not say anything because they are family and they don't want to create any rifts in a family dynamic so they just let some things slide when they really should have said something. And when that someone finds her girlfriend in bed with her friend and when they kiss in a bar, it is definitely not ok no matter how innocent their intentions were or whatever the circumstances might have been…'

Arizona then realizes what is going on. 'I am really sorry Arizona. I'm not trying to make excuses here. I just didn't see the big picture. I was trying to be a good friend to Callie and my actions crossed a line. A line where you should have been the one she cried to. I didn't mean to overstep. As for the bar, I don't know how to fix that. It happened. I didn't ask for it and Callie didn't even remember it, but the damage was done. I feel like I need to take a step back and give you and Callie some space. The thing is, it's been me and Callie since med school. We were by ourselves and became a team I guess. She is my absolute best friend. We became family. She continued to be there for me when Tyler was on the road and I think I took advantage of that. I still had a companion when he wasn't there. I realize she has you now and she does not need me as much as I might have needed her.'

Amber looked up. Arizona was looking at her. She opened her mouth to speak, but needed a second to gather her thoughts. 'First of all, yes, I was upset and the fact that you are married to my cousin does complicate things. I let things slide and I shouldn't have. No, it was not ok that you were in bed with Calliope. And no, definitely not ok to kiss. To be honest, it took a lot to not lash out that day. I understand that Callie was there for you when Tyler couldn't be. I know it is hard sometimes to not have that person next to you that you want the most.'

'It is hard. And I'm jealous. I'll admit it. I'm jealous that you and Callie get to come home to each other every night and I'm jealous that you get to see her every day. I shouldn't be. I knew what it meant to be in a relationship with a truck driver, but back in med school and clear up until the wedding, Callie was there. Like always. If I called her, she came and when we wanted to hang out, we did. I'm not saying that you are keeping her from me, I'm just… I don't know. Just jealous.' Amber breathed out.

'I get it, Amber. I do. And thank you for coming up here and apologizing. It means a lot. Just from now on, I'll hug her to make her feel better and I'll absolutely be doing all of the kissing with her. You got that?' Arizona fake glared at the other woman.

Amber smiled. 'I got it. Definitely will not happen again. Are we ok?'

'We're ok.'

'Can we hug?'

Arizona got up from her desk and walked around to the other woman. She pulled the other woman in and they hugged. Amber pulled back and smiled softly. 'I'm gonna get back down there before Owen sends a search party.' She turns to head to the door. Before opening the office door, she turns back. 'Arizona,' she says, 'thank you for accepting my apology.' Arizona nods as the other woman leaves and shuts the door behind her.

Callie is exiting the elevator on the PEDS ward as Amber gets to the elevators. 'Hey Cal.' she says simply and enters the elevator. Callie makes her way to her girlfriend's office and knocks. Arizona pulls the door open immediately.

'Calliope, what a nice surprise. What can I do for you?' Arizona chirps.

'Hey Ari, um… is everything ok?'

'Just great.' Arizona pulls Callie's wrist so the taller woman is in her arms. 'Why wouldn't it be?'

'Just wondering. Do you have time for lunch with me?'

'After I get a kiss.' Arizona tilts her head up and captures Callie's lips in a sweet kiss.

They are walking down the hall towards the elevator hand in hand. 'Was Amber up here talking to you?' Callie asks.

'Yeah. She came up to talk for a minute. Everything is fine.' Arizona smiled softly.

'Maci is ok?' Callie probed.

'Yes, Calliope.' Arizona took a deep breath. 'She came up to apologize to me. I was talking with Bailey one day about a few things that have happened between us. Bailey took it upon herself to give Amber a lecture in her Bailey way and she came up to apologize. That she wouldn't overstep into our relationship. We are good now. I should have just talked to her myself, but I'm happy that she saw what was bothering me.'

They arrived at the cafeteria and it was packed. 'Do you want to eat in my office?' Arizona asked. 'It doesn't look like there is anywhere to sit here.'

'Yeah, looks like everyone took lunch at the same time.'

After grabbing their food and taking the elevator back up to PEDS, Arizona shut the door to her office and flipped the lock. She did not want her lunch interrupted.

'Thanksgiving is coming up. Do you want to do anything?' Callie asked after settling herself on the couch.

'Is it bad that I just want something small? I would like to cook together.'

'I would like that very much. I'd love to see you in a cute little apron.'

'You would, huh? And what would you be wearing if I were in the apron?'

'Maybe I won't wear anything. Naked Thanksgiving.' Callie smirks. She looks up to see Arizona stuck with her fork in mid air and a dreamy look on her face. 'You're picturing Naked Thanksgiving aren't you?'

'Maybe…' Arizona said.

They continue their lunch in peace. Once Arizona is finished with her meal, she joins Callie on the couch. She opens her arms for Callie to lean in and she does so immediately. Arizona's arms are so warm and she feels so safe when they are wrapped around her. 'I love you, you know that?' Callie whispers after a few silent moments.

'I know, baby. I love you too. I am looking forward to Naked Thanksgiving with you.' Callie starts to chuckle and snuggles in closer to her girl.

As luck would have it, both Callie and Arizona had to work on Thanksgiving. Emergencies don't care about holidays. Callie was busy setting fractures because of drunken idiots and Arizona had to cover for one of the doctors that had taken some vacation time. It was ok though. They planned on having to work and created a menu that would not take a long time to prepare once they were able to go home for the day. It was around three in the afternoon before Callie was able to head out. Arizona was still at the hospital for a little while. She made her way across the street and decided to take a relaxing bath to ease away the tension of the day.

She had just settled into the water when she heard the apartment door open. She heard the familiar sound of Arizona dumping her keys onto the breakfast bar and heard her making her way into the bedroom. 'Calliope, I'm home. Where ar…' she started to ask when she walked into the bathroom.

'Hey there. Care to join me?' Callie asked as she swirled the water around her.

'Oh yes.' Arizona said. She undressed quickly and got into the tub. Callie opened her legs wider to allow Arizona to rest back against her. She immediately wrapped her arms around the smaller woman and laid a kiss on her shoulder. 'I like Naked Thanksgiving.' Arizona hummed when she was fully settled. Callie laughed. They relaxed in the warm water for awhile enjoying the other's company.

'How was your day?' Callie asked placing another kiss on her lover's shoulder. She kissed a path up her neck making the other woman shiver.

'It…uh…was ok. It's a lot better right NOW.' Arizona yelped as Callie slipped a finger through her folds. She moved her finger slowly and circled the smaller woman's clit. 'Mmmmmm, that feels amazing.' She turned her head so that she could kiss Callie deeply. Their tongues moving in time with Callie's fingers. Callie moved her other hand and pinched Arizona's hard nipple. Arizona gasped and Callie moved her lips back to her neck and sucked lightly. Not enough to leave a mark. Arizona was in ecstasy. Callie's fingers were magical. Her mouth just as talented. Arizona was nearing her climax. Callie adjusted herself and slid two fingers into Arizona's center and worked her clit with her thumb. It was just a few seconds later that Arizona came. Water was sloshing around them as her hips jerked from the pleasure. Callie slowed her movements and Arizona relaxed back into her as she came down. 'Wow.' she was unable to say anything else. Her chest was heaving and her body was entirely relaxed.

'You look so at peace right now. Are you ready to get out though? The water is getting kind of cold and we have a meal to prepare together.'

'Yeah. I'm ready. You are amazing, Calliope. I love you so much.'

'I love you too. Come on. Let's get cooking.

They quickly dressed and moved into the kitchen. They planned to cook a chicken with some rice and vegetables. Nothing fancy. They wanted a small intimate dinner for their first Thanksgiving together.

'What do I need to do first? You're the chef here.' Arizona asked.

'Can you cut up the veggies so we can put them in the pan? I'll grab the chicken and season it up.'

'I can handle that.' Arizona went to the fridge and got out the carrots, celery, and potatoes. She began peeling the carrots over the sink. Callie came up behind her and wrapped her arms around her and turned on the faucet.

'Make sure you rinse those off before you start to chop them.' She placed a kiss behind her ear and moved to get the chicken and seasoning.

They worked in silence preparing their part of dinner and soon it was ready to be placed in the oven. 'It should take about an hour and the rice takes twenty or thirty minutes.' Callie said. She pulled Arizona back into her arms. They stood in an embrace enjoying the intimacy of the evening. Callie dragged her fingers up and down Arizona's back. Arizona tightened her grip. The evening was turning out perfectly. Best first Thanksgiving ever.
