Ch 13

"Well it's about damn time we got here." Marcus grumbled. Carmen was grabbed roughly and forced out of the suv. "Stenson, where are we on fueling up?" he radioed. "Sorry sir we weren't expecting you for another hour, so we're a little behind." "The hell is that supposed to mean?! Why didn't you start before we got here? Just get started ASAP , we have an HVT in custody and i'd like to be airborne before dinnertime!"

The plane wasn't as big as Carmen thought it would be. The side of the plane opened up, lowering stairs. Boarding the plane Carmen was forced to sit across from Marcus. "You know, orange is a good color for you SanDiego." Carmen scoffed, "I prefer red." there was silence for a few minutes. Although Carmen did have one question, or two. "Are you working with VILE?" Marcus sat back, as if wondering whether or not to tell his prisonor. "We have mutual interests, they give us some intel we exchange for drugs, or use our resources to help them expand in certain areas."

"You do know they are evil right? I mean don't you feel a little concerned that you're letting bad stuff happen to people, things you can and should prevent?" Marcus showed her his badge. "You see this? This means I can do what I want, when i want, and nobody can stop me. So why shouldn't i take advantage of that freedom?" "Because it's wrong! You're supposed to help people, not steal from them or make their lives harder!" Carmen argued. "You're just like Pierce, always trying to do the right thing, the hard way. You only see one way of doing something, there are so many different ways to achieve what you want." "It's not about a difference in ways, it's about morality, how can you sleep at night knowing you starved a village of children?" "There are 7.1 billion people on earth, if a little village dies it's no sweat off my back. That population will recoup in what 10 years? So who cares, as long as i get paid."

Carmen was at a loss for words. Here was a man who didn't care about human life! Who didn't care who he hurt, just as long as he made a profit?! "You're a monster." She said under her breath. "What was that, not sure I heard you?" the look on Marcus's face said otherwise. The smug look on his face drove her mad. "I said you're a MONSTER!" she screamed. He just laughed. "You got fire in ya, good hold onto that gonna need it where you're going. Oh, and if you think Sam is gonna come save the day, think again, there's only 3 people who know where this plane is and he isn't one of them."

"Oh come ooonnn!" Sam fummed as he failed to make the green light. At this rate I'll never get there! Turning right he looked up and saw the lights turn again. Switching lanes he took off down an alleyway, turning out at the next intersection. Peeling around the corner he sped up, trying to cut down on time.

Pulling around the parking lot of the FBI private airfield, Sam spotted runway 1. Well they wouldn't be that stupid. Charging through the loading tarmac he raced through the gate marked runway 2 in hopes of catching the plane.

"We are fueled and ready to go Donovan." Crackled the radio. "About damn time, let's go!" Marcus yelled.

Sam was halfway through runway 3 when he had to maneuver around a baggage truck. Veering back on the road, the gate between runway 4 and 5 burst apart.

Carmen felt the plane turn and stop, signifying it was positioned and ready for takeoff. "Told ya he wouldn't show." Marcus laughed.

Shifting into a higher gear Sam barreled through the second to last gate. He was pushing 75 now, wich was probably the fastest he'd gone in a car solo. Shouldering the MPX he unlocked the doors.

"Hey boss I think something is coming our way, and fast." Marcus got up and took the binoculars from Sampson. "Son of a bitch! He's actually gonna try and stop the hell did he get our position!" Turning he pointed at Carmen, "not a word" Turning to Sampson he barked, "Get the pilot and tell him to get us airborne now!"

The runway was in sight, and the plane was slowly moving along gaining speed. I've got one shot, I miss and it's over. Barreling down the dirt division line, Sam lined up as best he could. Here goes nothing! Twisting the wheel he braked, essentially drifting the car. Throwing open the door he dove out and landed hard. The car however continued to drift and took out the front landing gear of the plane. The aircraft lurched forward, now without a front leg to stand on. The nose touched the ground as everything stood still for a moment.

Carmen was trying to get a view of the car as it sped towards the plane. Suddenly the entire aircraft lurched foreword. Marcus was thrown to the ground along with his companions. Carmen was thrown hard back into her seat. "The hell was that! That crazy son of a bitch!" Marcus yelled. Sampson, Burke lower the stairs and see how bad it is out there, although I doubt we can still fly."

Recovering from his tumble Sam moved towards the plane. The staircase then descended and he aimed at the entrance. Burke was first out and Sam fired, hitting him in the chest and head. The body tumbled off of the staircase. Sam pushed forward , sprinting up the stairs and into the plane.

"Shit he got Burke!" Yelled Sampson. "Damn it!" Marcus growled. Grabbing Carmen he backtracked and opened the escape hatch. The inflatable slide expanded and filled out. Just then he heard Sam run up the steps. Turning he put Carmen in a human shield position. "Pierce! You take one more step and I'll kill her and throw her corpse down the slide, you hear me!"

Sam stopped as he saw Marcus. "I just want the girl, you still wanna hightail it outta here I don't care." He replied. "Can't do that Sam, she's my promotion." "Then why are you threatening her?! If you need her alive it makes no sense!"

"Because it's not just about my promotion anymore Pierce, it's about tearing your perception apart! Everything you've done these past few days, all the good things. They mean nothing if she dies! She's the reason for all this!" He chuckled, " Oh and that whole she needs to be alive? Yea that's all bullshit, I made it up, I could deliver her in pieces to the brass and I'd still get promoted." Sampson pointed his gun at Sam. "Drop it Sam." He did as he was instructed. "And the pistol." Barked Marcus. Sampson reached for the gun at Sam's thigh when Sam elbowed him in the face. Wrapping his arm around his neck he pulled Sampson close, mirroring Marcus's stance.

"Prisoner exchange." Sam stated. "You think I give a rats ass about Sampson?" "Hey screw your Carver!" Sampson protested. "Well, what do we do? We can't just stand here." Sam tried to move the situation along. "You are gonna stay put while we leave." Sam pointed the gun at Marcus. "Again I just want the girl, you yourself can leave any time you want. Just then Carmen elbowed Marcus in the stomach and threw her head back, cracking him in the mouth. "Argh!" His hold loosened and Carmen broke free. "Duck!" BANG!BANG! Marcus stumbled back and fell to the floor. Sampson then tried to break free and backed Sam into the wall of the plane. He went for a punch but Sam ducked. He tackled him to the ground and started raining punches down. Carmen watched for a few seconds before getting involved. "Sam, SAM STOP!" She grabbed his hand, now red with blood. Sam looked at Carmen then back at Sampson, "You come after us .kill you." He seethed. Sampson gurgled, indicating he was indeed still alive.

"Ugggh." Both individuals turned to see Marcus regaining his bearings. "Gotta move Carmen." Walking over he took the keys Marcus had to one of the SUVs. They both used the slide to exit the plane and broke into a run. "Head for an SUV!" Sam yelled. Getting in the driver side Sam handed her a key. "Handcuffs." She quickly freed herself. Sam put it in gear and was about to punch it when shots rang out. Looking behind them they saw Marcus running , firing his sidearm. "Hang on!" Sam floored it just as Marcus reached the spare SUV.

"If we can put enough distance between us I can drop you off and lure him away." Carmen was confused. "Drop me off? Why?" "Uh, your a wanted fugitive! Besides I brought you a change of clothes. Less suspicious." He gestured to the back. "Might wanna change ASAP."

"You want me to change in the back of a moving car?" "Look if you don't change and people see the orange jumpsuit they might call the cops, ya know because most people in PRISON wear orange." Carmen sighted. Couldn't argue with that logic. "Just ...don't look." "Really? You seriously think-never mind." Sam focused on the road ahead, trying not to turn too much. "Could you warn me next time your turning, I almost lost my shirt."

Skidding back up front Carmen was dressed in her black shirt with grey pants and converse, complete with her red hoodie. "That was fast." " well I was on a timer right?" Sam smirked, "by the way nice bra ." Carmen's face reddened, "you said you wouldn't look!" "I didn't ! It was a joke! Ow! I'm kidding! " He protested, even as Carmen hit him in the arm repeatedly, smirking. "Ok ok, up here is your stop." He braked and Carmen got out. "Two blocks down and to your right and you should see Zack and Ivy." "Sam?" "Yea?" "Be careful ok?" "Right." He closed the door and sped off.
