Ch31
Magnus groaned, he felt as if his body had been beaten and thrown around a fire bit. He opened his eyes and slowly lifted his head but his body was sore that he barely managed to sit up. "Where am I," he muttered as he looked around and appeared to be in a fancy hotel room.
"Good you are awake," a friendly voice said from a chair. He turned and saw a handsome looking man sitting in a chair. The man wore a red button down shirt and had long golden hair like Apollo, his smile felt warm and the man felt strangely familiar. "Sigurd's armor protected you from most of the blast but your body was pretty bruised up but I am healing you."
"Th-Thanks, um who are you? And where am I?" he asked and he cleared his throat.
The man laughed as he got up and handed him a glass which he happily drank as his throat felt really parched. "You look just like her," the man said with a smile as he took the cup from him. "You really are Natalie's son," he said smiling at him.
His eyes widened, "Y-You know my mom," he said as he felt his heart skip a beat.
The man laughed, "My name is Frey one of the Vanir Gods; God of peace, fertility, rain, summer, and Lord of Alfheim. But more importantly, I am also your father."
Magnus felt his jaw drop as he stared at the man; well I can see the resemblance a bit. "Y-You are my dad." He didn't really know what to say, this wasn't exactly a moment he had been planning. He felt his heart beat like crazy as he stared at the God in front of him. He could tell by his presence that he was a god but he felt different than the Greek Gods he had met.
Frey smiled at him, "Right kid welcome to my realm Alfheim the land of elves," he said.
He was speechless not knowing what to say or how to react. "Elves? Like that Hearthstone guy."
"Yup, that guy has a tragic story though and doesn't come here because of family issues though," Frey said with a sigh. "But overall he is trustworthy and a good person."
"So you are a Norse god?" He asked as he rested on his pillow. He didn't know what to think, he had met plenty of Greek Gods before and he felt weird being in the presence of another deity. The man's presence was similar in that it was old and powerful but felt different in a good way.
"Right kid, I had you transported here when you and your Greek friend were blown out of the mountain, coolest escape I've seen in a while by the way," Frey said as he brought his chair up to the bed.
"Percy! Where is he? Did you get him too?" He asked as he sat up a little too fast and his body seared in pain a bit.
"Hey calm down your body was bruised up pretty badly but you will heal in time," Frey said as he sat down in his chair. "And as for your friend unfortunately no, he was taken by a strong Greek presence but I managed to get you thanks to some help," he said as he avoided his gaze. "But don't worry I am sure he is well; he probably fell into the ocean and is his father's domain or any other Greek resting place."
Magnus felt a pain in his chest, while that may be true he wanted to know for himself if Percy was safe or not. Part of him felt weird about meeting his father; personally, he never cared about meeting him but now that he met him he didn't know what to feel. Part of him was curious and wanted to hug him while the other part of him wanted to run back to Camp.
"So why did help me know? Why reach out to me now of all times?" He asked.
His father smiled at him. "Usually I meet my demigod children when they reach Valhalla but you are a special case."
"Special how?" He asked as he watched the man lean forward to him.
"There is a prophecy about you and that you will help our pantheon," Frey said seriously.
"A prophecy? What do you mean?" He asked as he rested in the bed. He felt his heart rate increase as if he were about to get some horrible news.
Frey sighed, "You are a Son of the North originally and I know you have lived with the Greeks your entire life and by no means am I trying to make you abandon your friends or cousin," he said seriously. "However, a prophecy has been uttered that you shall be the hope of Asgard and we cannot do that if you only recognize and live in the world of the Greeks."
Magnus stared at him not knowing what to think of say as Frey sighed, "I know this must be a lot for you and know that you are free to go and leave when you are better but know that your heritage is with us and bad things will occur to the world if Asgard falls."
"Wh-What is it I am supposed to do?" He asked, he didn't know what to think, he had never known any prophecy before about him he always saw himself as a Greek. I have never even been to Asgard.
"Even I don't know. But I know that you will act as a bridge between both pantheons and will be of great help to Asgard in the future," Frey sighed as he gave him a sympathetic look. "You really do remind me of your mother you know. She really was something else," he said with a sigh.
Magnus avoided looking at Frey, he had never really thought about his mother and her relationship with his dad. From what he had heard they had separated amicably.
"You know her spirit rests with us and not in the Greek underworld," Frey said in a melancholy tone as he looked up at the ceiling.
Magnus gripped his sheets. "Don't think about using her against me," he said.
Frey raised up his hands, "Sorry that was not my intention it was just some thoughts that came to my mouth. I apologize." Magnus relaxed his grip as Frey continued talking. "I by no means want to take you from your friends and even though the Greeks have claimed you as their own and Hades claimed your soul you are still my son and I want to help you when I can," he said with a sad look on his eyes.
Magnus looked away from his father, "Help me? How?"
"Well for one I could activate your dormant powers. Norse demigods usually manifest their powers around your age but more fully when they pass away. I could also teach you some elf magic," Frey said. "You should pick it up quickly since you are my son and you are pretty smart."
"Thanks but I am kind of in the middle of a quest,' he said. As much as it sounded cool to learn about his powers and stuff he had to return to his friends.
"Don't worry time here passes differently than on the outside. You have been gone for about an hour on midgard time," Frey said with a smile. "So how about it?"
Magnus sighed as he looked up at his father, "Fine sounds cool."
"Great," Frey said as he stood up and smiled at him. "You will do great I know it. I'll also teach you some Old Norse and maybe some sign language," he said as he got up. "I'll have an elf bring you another healing potion, it will restore your strength and your muscles will grow a bit as well from the potions and healing spells just to let you know," he said as he got up and exited the room.
Magnus sighed as he sat back down on his bed. Well things keep on getting weirder and weirder. I hope Percy and Annabeth are ok he thought as he looked up at the ceiling. This place doesn't seem half bad, it is like a five-star hotel room.
He mainly stayed in bed for the next few days, only getting up to bathe or eat. The elves that came to heal him, change the bandages and give him healing potions didn't speak much. Well he thought they didn't but it turns out they just weren't used to humans around. His father came and visited him and personally taught him Old Norse and Sign Language along with a few his powers. He surprisingly picked them both up after his father explained that Norse Demigods picked up the Old Norse language really fast and in no time was he able to read, write, and even read a bit of the Norse Sagas after a few days (his father taught him well into the night).
He also found sign language to be fun, his father explained that it would be cool to learn and it was. It didn't take him long to be able to grasp the basics since it was the sign language of his father's domain (who swore it was the same thing as ASL). Apparently, he also could understand Swedish since his father is associated with the country. It was pretty weird at first but when his father should him a copy of The Lord of the Rings in Swedish he was surprised that he could read it.
His body also recovered and after about a week at his father's place he was able to walk again. He took a nice bath before relaxing in the sauna, "Man I can't believe a week has already passed," he said as he looked around at the wooden room and felt the heat around him. His father had explained that only a few days had passed back on earth and that he could not show him Percy or Annabeth since they were out of the Norse domain. He tried to Iris message them but got nothing, he believed his father since he felt no ill intent from him and his father even left Gram and his weapons in his room for him.
I still don't know how I feel about him, I mean he is cool and all he thought as he looked down at his body. What the hell has he been giving me? He used to be on the skinny side but had some muscle since he was working out as a demigod, yet now looking at his body his muscles were a bit more defined. Its like he has been giving me nothing but protein shakes he thought has he felt his firm biceps while working his way down to his pecs and firm abs. He was still on the lean side but just was not used to having this much muscle on him. Well he did say I would put on some muscle I just didn't think this much not that I am complaining.
After he finished resting he went back to his room and put on his clothes which his father apparently cleaned and repaired. "Yeah its definitely tight on me," he said as he put on his orange camp shirt. His pants fit ok but his shirt was a little too snug for him.
"Hey kid did you enjoy your time in the sauna?" His father asked as he came into the room.
"Um yeah it was really fun. Out of curiosity how did my body get more muscular?" He asked, not that he was complaining.
His father chuckled, "The healing magic and potions I gave you helped your muscles grow in addition to healing you. I also fed you some potions and did a spell on you to unlock your powers as my son. Why don't you grab your sword I want to show you some magic."
Magnus nodded as he put the necklace that contained Sigurd's armor on along with his celestial bronze sword and Gram. "Hey kid glad to see you are alive and you gained some muscle nice," Gram said in his head.
"Thanks it is good to be back," he said as he followed his father out of his room. His father explained that they were at his personal residence which was a big fancy mansion full of TVs, game stations, and other cool things. Under normal circumstances, he would have loved it here but now things were serious. The elves that they passed by bowed at them as they exited the mansion.
When they got outside it was bright, yet it didn't feel like sunlight. "This is Alfheim kid, it is always bright and sunny out since Elves need it to stay alive," Frey said as he led him to the backyard. He looked around and saw a bunch of fancy looking buildings that looked straight out of a rich neighborhood. "I remember when I allowed Mr. Tolkien up here, he stayed to gain inspiration for his books and loved it here."
"Tolkien? As in JRR Tolkien?" He asked.
His father nodded, "Yup, he was a Norse demigod as well and borrowed a lot of the Norse world for his works; especially the stuff on the elves."
"Wow cool," he said as he looked around and saw all the vegetation around them.
"Now Magnus first thing you should know is that I am not necessarily a war deity or a powerful deity like your friend's dad," Frey said as they both walked into his large backyard which had a nice swimming pool and a place for BBQ. Frey took a few steps in front of him and raised his hand and what appeared to be a large deer flew into it. "However, I am still strong and since I am the Lord of Alfheim I know Alf Seidr or Elf magic. Since you are my son you should be able to use it too."
"What is elf magic like?" He asked curiously
"It isn't an offensive type of magic like Runes are. It is mainly used for healing, growing, and stopping violence but it can be just as powerful. Here let me show you; draw your sword," Frey said.
Magnus nodded and drew his celestial bronze sword as his father only snapped his finger. He felt a surge of energy as the sword flew out of his hand. "That's called the Peace of Frey but that's not all, check this out," Frey said as he pointed to a small plant in a pot. Magnus's eyes widened as he saw the plant grow from being a tiny plant to a large plant.
"Wow that is pretty cool," he said. It wasn't like controlling the water or being super smart but it was cool still. Disarming people, I think the children of Aries can do that, while the Demeter kids can grow plants and vegetation.
"Yeah you can also have the power to stop violence through peace; sort of like charm speak like the children of the Goddess Aphrodite have," Frey explained. "Now as my son it will take a while for you to master these things but do not worry you will be able to get the hang of it in no time. You will probably be able to learn it for "
Magnus nodded, "Ok sounds. I hope I can learn it in time for the remainder of this quest."
Frey smiled at him, "It will take some practice but you have my word that I will let you go when you wish. You have barely been gone a few days in Midgard time. Trust me as soon as I hear word about your friend Percy I will let you go to him; he is still being hidden by some magic in some place out of the reach of Asgard," he said looking at him.
Magnus looked into his father's eyes and saw no deceit; he had learned to detect deceit in others from a young age and could tell that his father meant every word. "Ok lets do this," he said.
Frey smiled at him and laughed, "That's the spirit."
Magnus smiled at his dad as he taught him how to do the magic. Frey brought out another elf to help him practice with while he supervised them. It was a little awkward at first but by the end of the day he was starting to get the hang of disarming his opponent.
"That's good enough for today Magnus," Frey said as they got up. "Lets go have some dinner now."
Magnus felt tired despite not having drawn his sword at all and only nodded as he followed his dad inside. He followed his dad to a table full of a variety of foods. "I heard you like falafel so here is some," his father said pointing to the large tray of falafel in the middle of the table.
"Wow cool thanks," he said as his eyes widened to the large tray of falafel, he hadn't had it in a while so he was more than happy to dig in.
"So tell me how are your adventures with the Greeks?" His father asked as they sat down at the table and were already eating.
"Oh they are good. I've been on a few quests and made some friends," he said as he drank a cup of soda.
His father smiled at him, "That's good, I hear you are friends with the son of Poseidon and your cousin is the daughter of Athena."
He nodded his head, "Yeah I am close with them. Have you met the Greek Gods?"
Frey let out a small laugh, "Of course, Asgard and Olympus used to be rivals back in the day. We fought each other for supremacy and the title of the main pantheon of Western Civilization. The Greeks may be stronger but us Asgardians are no pushovers."
"Yeah some of the other people I've ran into have also been Norse," he said as he explained about how he met Gunilla, Hearthstone, and Blitz.
When he finished telling the story he swore he saw a dark look pass over his father's face but it was quickly replaced with a smile. "Yeah the daughter of Thor is a bit hard on the head but Hearthstone and Blitz are trustworthy and are good people."
"Yeah they are nice. They told me a bit about Norse stuff and are cool to Percy too," he said.
"Yeah I am glad you have good friends. By the way my father, your grandfather is the Norse God of the ocean. He knows Poseidon they get along these days though," Frey said as he drank some wine.
"Wow small world," he said as he ate some more falafel.
"Yeah it is," Frey said with a sigh. "Oh by the way try to be nice to Hearthstone, he has had a tough life and doesn't have many people that are friendly to him because he is deaf. His parents were really abusive," said with a sigh
"I am nice to him its just that he and Blitz make it obvious that they are following me," he said with a sigh. "But I can tell that they are nice and they are nice to Percy so I don't mind talking with them."
His father laughed, "That's good, oh how I wished we had a camp like the Greeks. Your mom would have loved it," he said with a sigh as he looked up at the ceiling. "She loved the outdoors a lot."
"Yeah she did," he said as he returned to his food. "She definitely would have loved the camp, she would probably live there if she could.
Frey laughed, "Yeah she would've."
The rest of the days passed by slowly. He would wake up, get ready for his day, and then train. His father tutored him in the morning and evening in Old Norse, Sign Language, and even some Swedish which wasn't hard for him to learn. During the day he would practice with his sword with his father or one of his elves along with practicing disarming opponents.
After a week he was starting to gain the handle of everything though he still needed to work on magic a bit. After a few weeks, his father woke him and to his surprise, he said something, "Your friend Percy is back on Midgard do you want to go to him?"
His eyes widened, "Yeah of course. How can I get there?"
"He is on a boat that is full of Greek magic so I can't send you onto it directly. I have already arranged for a boat to bring you to him before he gets too close the camp. For diplomatic reasons I can't just send you into their camp," his father said.
He sighed, "Ok let me get ready." His father nodded as he gathered his things. He went downstairs and was met by his dad.
"Here take this," Frey said as he passed him a back full of supplies. "It has some books on ASL, Magic, and a copy of the Sagas in both Swedish and Old Norse. I also put some pictures I have of your mother in there along with some other stuff," he said with a wink.
Magnus grabbed the bag and looked at its contents. "Wow thanks dad."
Frey smiled at him and sighed, "No problem Magnus you will do great things I know it." He then pulled him in for a hug which he returned. His dad felt warm and a part of him felt sad that he was leaving him.
"Come visit me whenever you want. Just give me a call and I will bring you here. Feel free to invite your friends too," Frey said with a smile. "Also, when this is all over if you want I can help train you to become stronger
"Ok I'll think about it," he said as he grabbed his stuff and went outside with his father.
Frey yelled something as he looked up at the sky. Magnus looked up as a rainbow beam of light hit him. The last thing he saw was his father smiling at him as he waved goodbye.
AN: So since Tolkien incorporated a lot of Norse mythology into his stories I decided it would be cool if he were a Norse demigod. I based Alfheim off of the description in Magnus Chase but I will also incorporate some aspects of Tolkien's elves into the world of Alfheim since Tolkien used Alfheim as an inspiration for the elves in his works. There isn't a lot about Alfheim that I could find in the myths.
Also, I decided to have time flow differently in Alfhim than on Midgard just for the sake of the plot. I decided to have Frey awaken some of Magnus's powers, he will learn how to use them throughout the series.
