Chapter 16

.

The doctors said that Amy would be fine. The drug was now out of her system, and she had been rescued before any permenant damage could be done. Before she was discharged on this day Kalil came to see her.

.

Kalil: I'm glad that you'll be okay.

Amy: Thanks, I appreciate your concern.

Kalil: So, you're mother really just left you on your own?

Amy: The army didn't give her much notice, besides she's a big believer in free rang parenting.

Kalil: Have they contacted her?

Amy: I think so.

Kalil: I heard that sheriff Riley is putting you in a foster home.

Amy: I don;t know the details yet, but probably.

Kalil: My parents take in foster kids sometimes. We're not a long term home, mainly abused children who need a temporary place to live. They say you can stay with us for awhile, if you don't mind sleeping on our couch.

Amy: Wow, you'd really do that for me?

Kalil: Yeah, charity is sort of a requirement in our faith. But if your mothr gets leave we won't be offended if you'd rather be with her.

Amy: I'd really appreciate that. Thank you.

.

As they walked out of the hospital together Amy did something she'd wanted to do since she first met Kalil. She kissed him. There had always been an attraction between these two, but suprisingly Kalil quickly pulled away.

.

Amy: I'm sorry, I thought you wanted to kiss too.

Kalil: I do, very much so. But you've just been through a traumatic experience, not your first one. It wouldn't be right to take advantage of that. In time, if you still want too, I'd be willing then.

Amy: You're a good man Kalil, and I don't say that about many young men.
