The mall was nice, people didn't much stare at them or ask for signature and pictures so much. People must've understood the Avengers were just trying to be normal after the recent events and saving the world one more time.
"Huh.. Barton, look!" Steve followed Nat's finger to the 'Wetzel Pretzel' sign down another wing of the wall. Rhodey saw the shoe store beside it making pleased 'O' lips before strolling off towards it, two bags already in hand. Tony followed. Rhodey did have a mad shoe game.
Thor tilted his head at the smaller man and the widow run off to the small store. There was a certain smell, sweet dough and cinnamon like in the air. Steve had chuckled, he could see the confusion on the god's face. "Its like.. bread stuff, its good."
They kept going, they'd been looking for Peter for a hot minute now who kept running off to all the games and comic stores leaving Tony to actually cloth shop for the boy.
Wanda was eying her new heels as they crossed the big road. They's been waiting for probably three minutes. It was just one of those busy big roads with malls on both sides of the road. Hundreds of people crossed at the same time.
They waited till everyone in front of them walked first them they did. Tony was walking backwards for a second trying to explain to Peter how in this next mall he can not run off and he has to try some clothes on and help Tony with the boy's closet. Peter had groaned but agreed but only if Uncle Vision will try stuff on too who easily agreed.
From the corner of his eye Steve saw something turn into the street they were crossing, he didn't think much of it. They were about the only people in the road still crossing. He was listening to Thor talk about the bazar he's been to around the world when he heard a deafening screech followed by every person there screaming and running out of the way.
Bruce was hunched over with Tony, Steve turned to see what the noise was from when he saw a trash truck flying towards Peter's back. "Peter!"
The name barely left his mouth before his body connected with Peter's throwing him out of the way, but it was too late to move himself too. The blond's eyes widened like deer in headlights before the truck connected to his body, sending him flying back and rolling.
The truck turned aiming for two biggest trees in front of a shop and slammed into it, coming to a full stop. The front of it immediately caught flames.
Steve rolled until he came to a stop almost all the way across the road to the opposite sidewalk. He ended on his side then slowly flopped to his back. People were screaming. The small store was quickly being emptied, the owners and stranger coming out of their shops with fire extinguishers already on the truck.
"Oh my god.." was the first thing that came out of the Avengers mouth when things finally registered and people had stopped running out of the road. Its like time froze.
Before anything else was said all of the Avengers were running in the middle of the road to the opposite sidewalk where Steve lay bloody, twisted.. broken. They'd seen Steve's head come up for merely a second, shaking so badly, before his eyed rolled up and his head fell back with a heavy thud and his world went black.
Within minutes cops and ambulances were called, the whole road blocked. Fire trucks and officers everywhere. Yellow tape blocked off most of the roads leaving one lane to turn at a time. A chopper circled the air. People crossed the road where it wasn't blocked, phones out recording and taking pictures. Whispers everywhere.
Peter softly cried into Uncle Vision's arms, Natasha softly rubbed his back. The medics pushed everyone away and out of the road to the sidewalk including the Avengers. Nobody was telling them anything until one medic told them to follow them to the hospital. Tony grabbed his car, Clint hopped in. This didn't feel real.
