Chapter twelve
Harry arrived back at his home, while Remus headed to Grimmauld place. They both needed to fill everyone in on what was going on.
'Hi Harry, where's Remus?' Tonks asked.
'Grimmauld place, he'll be back soon. I need everyone here so I can explain what happened. Can you find them Tonks?'
'On it,' Tonks hurried from the room, Harry grabbed himself a beer and took a long drink. He was still drinking when everyone slowly made their way to the room.
'What happened Harry?' Neville asked.
'A lot. When we got there, it wasn't just the military, the prime minister was there along with the Queen of England.'
'Blimey,' Ted said, 'You met the queen.'
'Yeah, she's nice actually, but very angry about what is happening. Now they said I can fill you in since you are part of the group that is going to help finish the death eaters and Voldemort. They have a magical military squad staffed by all those muggleborns and halfbloods that were driven away by the purebloods. They wanted a group who knew about our world who could help them as well as us, so they put this squad together around twenty years ago. They planned to take out the death eaters and Voldemort before that Halloween night. Since all the killings stopped, they backed off and allowed the ministry to take care of any last problems.'
'What about the statue of secrecy?' Amelia asked.
'It's been void since Voldemort and his death eaters have been seen using magic against muggles. The queen plans to take back the magical world until trustworthy people can be put in place, like the minister and Wizengamot. She can do this since the death eaters and Voldemort voided the pact that was signed given the magicals rights to govern themselves. She asked Remus and me who we thought would make a good minister and who could run important departments. One thing she did say was that our truth potion would be used for any person who was going to work at the ministry, St Mungo's and Hogwarts. They had these plans for years but shelved in until recently when things had begun to happen again. Now they want to end it, but they also know that people like us will be needed. We, all of us know what they are like, we know who many of them are and we know what dark creatures they will use. They are planning on another meeting soon so we can coordinate our plans. They would like you to attend Amelia since you are head of the DMLE.'
'I would like to speak with them, especially about these plans to take over the ministry.'
'You don't think they should?' Ted asked.
'On the contrary, the queen should take control since witches and wizards voided the pact that was made with the king. We were always supposed to follow the laws set out for all of Great Britain, yet we know many in the ministry either bought their jobs or had family help them out. No department head, bar a few, is there because they got the right test results, they were purebloods. They also brought in many laws that discriminates against anyone that isn't a pureblood. That went against the pact. That needs to be changed. So many brought their freedom and that also needs to be changed.'
'It does, so we'll just have to wait to hear from them before we work on the rest of our plans. Their magical military squad will also be at Godric's Hollow. So far that's all we've worked out. They like the idea that we do this on a day when the werewolves will not be transformed. We also need as many that can cast a patronus. Most of the da could, but I do know that only half the order can.'
'All senior aurors can cast a patronus, so Kingsley, Jones, Hammer and Proudfoot can. I would not trust the others.'
'I can, when I found out that Harry drove away one hundred dementors I had Remus teach me,' Tonks said.
'Why Remus?' Amelia asked.
'Because he taught Harry, who in turn taught the da. I figured if Remus could teach a thirteen year old to cast a difficult spell like the patronus charm, then he must be a good teacher.'
'He was the best defence teacher we ever had. Only the Slytherin's liked it when he was forced to leave,' Susan said.
'If we can work with the muggles to make the ministry fair for everyone, we just might be able to work on some type of way for Remus and others like him to hold jobs. Remus may even be able to return to Hogwarts. That is a discussion for after we finish Voldemort. Do the muggles know you plan to use muggle weapons?' Tonks asked.
'Yes, they are going to supply us with some heavy duty guns that should blow a giants head apart but the MMS will also have those guns. We know most spells will just bounce off a giant's body, but a projectile like a big bullet will go through them like a hot knife through butter. I know it's going to be disgusting, but it's better them than us,' Harry said then took another drink of his beer, 'The Queen is also working on a guarantee that none of us will be prosecuted for using muggle weapons on witches or wizards. It's war so she's using many laws that will protect us during this war. It might not be a full muggle type war, but it's still classed as a war.'
'I filled in Arthur and the others. They were surprised to hear the muggles have witches and wizards working for them,' Remus said.
'I wasn't. After seeing how Hermione gets treated and how the ministry is run, I knew a lot would have returned to the muggle world. I thought about it at one time, but I would have no muggle education from the time I turned eleven.' Harry said.
'That's why they joined the military. They had a few working for recruitment offices so they could pick up the ones that disappeared from the muggle world when they were eleven. It wasn't hard to find them, then had them put into a special squad,' Remus said.
'Why were you thinking of leaving?' Susan asked as she stared at Harry.
'You would have heard or seen some of the things that happened to me at Hogwarts. There were times I just thought no more and since I had no family, no one could interfere. I kept thinking I just have to wait until I was a bit older so the muggles wouldn't get suspicious seeing a kid all alone. I figured around fourteen or fifteen. Then I had Sirius, who was hiding but staying close so he could protect me. I decided to stay. When he died, I almost said enough, but because of the prophecy I knew if I left then it could mean he wins. I can't let him win, not just for my parent's but for everyone he killed and his death eaters killed. I figured if I survive then I can decide whether to stay or leave.'
Susan jumped up and hugged Harry, 'I don't want you to leave,' she whispered.
'Can we talk, in private?' Harry asked but he looked at Amelia who nodded.
'Come on,' Susan grabbed Harry's hand and pulled him from the room.
'After he returned, Susan said she wasn't going to waste her time. If she got a chance, she was going to show Harry she liked him,' Hannah said, 'She's like Harry for a while but he was always with Ron and Hermione. Sorry, but most of us couldn't stand the way Ron acted and Hermione seemed to want to keep everyone away from Harry.'
'Hermione is protective of Harry, but she only thinks of him as a friend. With Ron,' Remus sighed, 'he does have someā¦bad habits that most would be put off. Albus is also to blame, he didn't want Harry getting close to others.'
'But he was fine with Harry being close to anyone that supported him,' Amelia said.
'Yes, so the Weasley family was the main one. Harry was allowed to leave his muggle relatives to go stay with the Weasley's. I mean before Voldemort returned, Harry could have stayed with Neville, or anyone really, as long as they weren't dark. Albus would never allow that.'
'There's more to this though, isn't there Remus?' Amelia asked.
Remus sighed, 'Yes. Now I will say this, if Harry and Susan decide to date, he will explain this to her. He will not want to hide anything from the girl he plans to date. He normally would be cautious, but he knows Susan is trustworthy and would keep this to herself.'
'I believe I know what you're going to say but go ahead.'
'The seventh horcrux wasn't meant to be and Voldemort didn't know he made it.'
'Harry,' Amelia said.
'Yes, it was behind his scar. As I told you before, Albus believed the horcruxes had to be destroyed. He believed Harry would have to die. The goblins, for a price, was able to remove it. Harry suffered, he was in so much pain, but as he told me, he would go through that and more to get rid of Voldemort.'
'It's why Harry suffered from headaches, they were caused by nightmares that were really visions. It's why we went to the department of mysteries. Voldemort sent Harry a vision, it was a lie. In the vision Harry saw his godfather being tortured and it happened in the hall of prophecy.' Neville said.
'Since Voldemort was still hiding, he wanted Harry to get the prophecy so he could hear the whole thing,' Remus said sadly, 'Sirius refused to stay behind. He wanted to rescue his godson. Bellatrix killed him, he fell through the death veil. Harry didn't know about the prophecy, not until that night. Albus, in his infinite wisdom told Harry not long after he saw his godfather die. Harry was furious, he trashed dumbledore office. If it wasn't for the fact that Voldemort was scared of Albus, I believed Harry would have cursed him for keeping secrets that cost Sirius his life. He never told Harry about the soul behind his scar, the goblins told me and I had to tell Harry.'
'He kept Harry under the watchful eye of his supporters until it was time for him to die. How did Albus plan to make Harry surrender his life if he didn't tell him?'
'We're not sure. He must have some plan, we just don't know what it was. This is why Harry decided to do the opposite to what Albus did. He wasn't going to keep all this a secret, but he also knew he had to be cautious who he could tell.'
'Would he have told Mad-eye Moody?' Ted asked.
'They were friends,' Amelia said.
'If he did, he has never tried to speak to Harry. He knows I'm staying with Harry, yet he has not said anything to me. I don't think it was Alastor, or anyone that is staying at headquarters now. The only person he spoke to and had plans with was Snape. Yet Snape killed him.'
'Maybe one of those plans was for Snape to kill him. We all know there was something wrong with his hand. Voldemort would believe Snape was truly his if he killed Albus,' Amelia said.
'The trouble with that is, Harry wouldn't believe a thing Snape said, due to how he treated Harry over the years. He knew Harry lived in an abusive home, yet he still made comments about his parent's. No, if Albus used Snape then he really didn't know Harry at all.' Remus said.
'But normally Harry is with Ron and Hermione. What if Snape was able to get that information to one of them?' Hannah asked.
'He would have to prove to them that Dumbledore planned all this. I doubt Ron would trust him, but Hermione would since she believed in dumbledore.' Remus said.
'It might be worth speaking with the girl to find out if she may have heard from Snape. If Snape told them this plan, the girl might believe Harry has to die. She and others need to know that's not the case anymore,' Amelia said.
Remus realised Amelia was right. He would need to speak with Hermione, and Ron, and maybe the order. If any of them knew Albus's plans, they would know that many things had changed. The big change was that Harry did not have to die.
