It was odd being at Hogwarts and not having to go to classes. It messed with Jade's schedule. It was even odder having the castle so empty. Jade and Blaise weren't the only students there for the break but they were the only Slytherins. The professors had given plenty of work to keep up for the fact that there wouldn't be any classes and it kept Jade's days busy. She noticed at mealtimes that Harry was staying for break as well and so were the Weasleys. Jade had never talked to Harry herself but she wanted to meet him, she was afraid that he'd want nothing to do with her since she was friends with Draco and he practically made it his mission to mess with Harry every time their paths crossed.

"Why do you keep looking at the Gryffindor table?" Blaise asked as he took a bite of a sandwich.

"I wanna go talk to them." She said honestly and Blaise looked at her,

"Why?" He scoffed as he looked over his shoulder at the table. "They don't look very interesting." The two twins were sitting on the table talking to Ron and Harry. Harry burst into a laugh,

"It's Harry Potter," Jade stated obviously. "don't you want to get to know him?"

"No. Not really."

"And why not?" She asked him, finally turning her attention to him.

"I'm more interested in my own life." He got her there,

"They look like they're having fun." She sighed and Blaise paused and put down his sandwich,

"Are you saying I'm not fun? Look at the fun we're having." The two of them were sitting at the Slytherin table by themselves, it looked very lonely having only two people at the large table.

"You're a blast." Jade grinned, "I'm just gonna go say hi and introduce myself." Before Blaise could begin the objection that was coming from his mouth she had gotten up and walked over to the table. The twins noticed her first and stopped telling their story. The twins were both much taller than her and for a second she thought about turning around. Harry and Ron had turned to see what they were looking at.

"Hi." Jade greeted softly and Ron narrowed his eyes at her,

"Aren't you Malfoy's girlfriend?" He asked cynically,

"No," Jade said quickly as she shook her head, "He's just my friend."

"Right, like that's any better." Jade looked down at her feet, Ron obviously didn't want to talk to her.

"I'm sorry about what he said before break." She apologized and Ron scoffed,

"Which time?"

"All of them, I guess." Harry and Ron exchanged a look and he looked back at her,

"Harry." He spoke and Jade gave him a small smile,

"Jade. Jade Maddex."

"I'm Fred." Said the twin on the left,

"I'm George." The one on the right smiled at her. "Being friends with Malfoy must be tiring, constantly listening to him complain."

"He only complains about seventy-five percent of the time." She shrugged and they all laughed. "The rest is him talking about how much better he is than everyone else."

"I'm not surprised," Ron said, giving Harry a side look and Harry smiled.

"I wanted to introduce myself a while ago but I knew everyone else would be wanting to too so I kind of stayed back."

"You seem awfully polite for a Slytherin." Fred nodded towards her and she felt her cheeks getting warm,

"Being a Slytherin doesn't mean I'm not polite."

"Doesn't it?" He asked but he spoke with a smile. He looked past her and his eyebrows furrowed, "Who's that?" Jade looked over her shoulder to see Blaise leaning against the Slytherin table watching her,

"That's my friend, Blaise."

"Is he a 'polite Slytherin' too?" George asked elbowing his brother,

"Yes, just not to Gryffindors." She said with a sly smile and the twins smiled appreciatively at her, "I have a lot of work to get done," She thought it'd be best to wrap it up and not keep Blaise waiting for her, "It was nice to properly meet you all." She smiled at Harry lastly and then turned from the Gryffindors and met up with Blaise as they left the Great Hall.

"How'd it go? Are you best mates now?" He asked, feigning disinterest.

"I think they're nice." Jade looped her arm around Blaise's as they walked to the dormitories. "But I think you and Pansy would die without me."

"Right." Blaise rolled his eyes and flopped down on one of the couches by the fireplace where they'd left their homework. Jade sat in a chair opposite the couch.

"We're only first years and we have this much work," Jade said as she organized her work based on the class. She was taking the work one class at a time and she was only halfway done with Herbology. "Imagine the amount of work by year four."

"More like next year," Blaise stated as he snatched his Transfiguration book and found his spot where he was reading before lunch. They were silent while they worked until Blaise spoke again, "If Pansy were to get expelled, what would you think it would be for?"

"Why would Pansy get expelled?" Jade asked, looking up from her parchment.

"I think it'd be for… talking in class." Jade laughed,

"She wouldn't get expelled for something small like that." Jade paused and put down her quill, "What about me?"

"Constantly doing your work," Blaise smirked as he turned a page in his book,

"You'd be expelled for snarkiness." She told him, "What about Crabbe and Goyle?"

"Stupidity. Draco?"

"For being self-centered. Fred Weasley?" She asked and Blaise paused,

"I don't know. Always talking at the same time as his brother?"

"They do that a lot. Ron?"

"Eating everything." Jade laughed at his quick reply. "He always has some sort of snack on him."

"What about Harry?"

"Nothing. Dumbledore would never expel the great Harry Potter."

"You have to choose something, that's the game."

"I don't know, he finally snaps on Snape." He said and Jade thought back to their first Potions class and how Snape kept going at him, trying to prove that Harry wasn't anything special.

"Snape's spiteful." Jade huffed as she sat back in her chair and Blaise grinned,

"He's the head of Slytherin. Would be odd if he wasn't."

"Doesn't mean I agree with how he treats his students. Are you excited for Christmas?" Jade said, changing the subject.

"We're just going to spend it how we've been spending the rest of our break."

"Don't be a downer." She warned and Blaise looked at her, "I won't give you your present." Blaise chuckled at her and Jade finished her stack of Herbology work with a sigh. "One down, six to go."
