Hi everyone! So this is the last story I'm doing for this collection! So sorry for the missed days, I've been pretty busy! Next time I see you all, it will be another chapter for Flying On Our Own! Thank you all for participating in the Snoggletog fun, and I hope you all have a Happy Snoggletog =D
Corbinace requested this one. It made the perfect finale!
It was evening on New Berk. It was snowing lighted but instead of being inside, everyone was bustling about with baskets of fish, waiting for the dragons arrivale.
Ever since the Snoggletog pageant that was held two years ago, the dragons have suddenly began to return to Berk for the holidays, which made everyone really happy. So instead of sulking around during Snoggletog, everyone would wait at the cliffside for their dragon friends.
Hiccup was especially excited because this year, he was going to teach Zephyr and Nuffink how to ride one of the Night Lights. They've been begging him all year long and he finally decided to give in. His two kids were jumping with excitment.
"I wanna ride Pouncer!" Zephyr squealed.
"I call Ruffrunner!" Nuffink said while clapping his hands.
"Then who's going to ride Dart?" Hiccup asked. Both kids stopped their jumping and thought for a moment.
"Both of us?"
Hiccup laughed, "You can only ride them one at a time. They aren't big enough to carry two people."
"Then I'll ride Dart." Zephyr pointed to herself.
"No, I will!" Nuffink interjected.
Zephyr frowned at her brother, "I'm older. So I can ride two dragons."
Nuffink stomped his foot, "That's not fair!"
"Is to." Zephyr replied.
"Is not!"
"Is to!"
"Is NOT NOT NOT!"
"Is TO TO TO!"
"Hey come on you two," Hiccup knelt down to face both of them, "It's Snoggletog. Why don't we treat each other nicely?"
"Fine." both children grumbled. Zephyr shot Nuffink a dirty look and Nuffink stuck his tongue out at Zephyr. Both stopped their arguing when they hear the faint sounds of roaring from up above. The dragons have finally arrived!
Everyone cheered happily as their favorite reptiles began to land on the island. Some immediately recognized their owners and began licking them, some brang them gifts from the Hidden World. Everyone began to depart from the cliffside when their dragons arrived. Hiccup, Zephyr, and Nuffink were still waiting.
Astrid came up from the cliffside. She was busy making Yaknog for the Yaknog Shooters. She spotted Stormfly and stroked her scales then turned to her family.
"Where are the Furies?" she asked.
Hiccup shrugged, "They're probably just a little late."
"Or the Night Lights are deciding who to carry." Zephyr said.
Hiccup was suddenly knocked onto his back. The black Night Fury was licking him all over. Hiccup laughed and petted Toothless.
"Hey, Bud! It's good to see you too!" Hiccup smuled. Toothless crooned and flapped his wings happily. The Light Fury walked up from not far behind, giving Hiccup a small nod in greeting. Hiccup smiled back at her.
The Night Lights squealed with glee and toppled over Zephyr and Nuffink. The five of them began to play a little game of chase.
"Ok now that we're all done with our hello's," Astrid giggled, "Why don't we get to the fun stuff?"
"Flying!" Zephyr and Nuffink cheered.
Hiccup had made small saddles for the young dragons and taught Zephyr and Nuffink how to saddle them. But now came for the hard part, who was going to ride who?
"I still want to ride Pouncer and Dart." Zephyr pointed to the two. Dart and Pouncer began to walk up to her.
The two stopped when Nuffink said, "No! I want Dart! She can fly with us." Dart cocked her head and began to walk toward Nuffink and Ruffrunner.
"No, she's mine!" Zephyr huffed. Dart warbled in confusion.
"Ok, ok. How about this," Hiccup started, "Why don't we begin with one dragon at a time. Dart can fly beside both of you."
Zephyr and Nuffink glared at each other, "Ok."
"Good." Hiccup nodded, "Now why don't you mount Pouncer and Ruffrunner?"
Zephyr and Nuffink both began to climb the two dragons. Zephyr managed to get on just fine but Nuffink accidentally stepped on Ruffrunner's wing. He screeched in pain.
"S-sorry!" Nuffink apologized.
"Here, you put your foot into the stirrup like this." Hiccup demonstrated with Toothless, slidding his foot into the holder. Nuffink nodded then tried again, this time without fail.
"I did it better." Zephyr smiled smugly.
Nuffink rolled his eyes, "What-ever."
Astrid showed them proper riding positioning, Nuffink did a better job in this part of the lesson while Zephyr was having a little bit more trouble.
"When do we fly?" Zephyr asked impatiently, "I think I'll do better in the air."
"Zephyr, you first need to learn how to be positioned as you fly so you don't fall off. Here, let me help you."
When Zephyr managed her flying positioning, the two were finally able to fly. Hiccup told them to give their dragons small nudges to start them off. The two dragons flew up into the air next to Toothless and Hiccup. They practiced basic maneuvers and landed on the ground.
"How was that?" Hiccup asked them.
"Awesome!" the siblings said.
"I wish the dragons could stay so we could do this everyday." Nuffink said sadly.
"Yeah..." Zephyr hung her head, "That would be nice."
"Well, we're just going to have to wait until they can return permanently." Hiccup told them.
"And for now, we can just fly them all we want!" Zephyr nudged Pouncer once again and they flew in a small circle, making the others laugh.
"We sure can!" Astrid smiled.
As the sun began to set the Fury family and the Haddock family, along with Stormfly did a few rounds around the island until dark. While the dragons only stayed for a few hours, everyone excitedly awaited their next visit. Even though they were across oceans, both dragons and humans cherished their memories that they shared together.
Especially around Snoggletog.
