Deku is basically Jasdevi from D. Gray-man. Momo tries to make sense of it all.

Jasdevi Deku

The first time Momo saw the Midoriya twins, she hadn't been sure what to think of them.

As someone given the vaunted opportunity of being up for recommendation for entrance into UA High School, Momo had come to expect certain behaviours from her peers. Serious about schoolwork and becoming heroes, with a presentation and personality to match.

So seeing the thick eyeliner and bad dye jobs on Midoriya Izuru and Midoriya Mikumo had been a bit of a shock. Izuru's shoulder length hair dyed a shocking blonde, and Mikumo's a more grounded black, couldn't hide the green roots on their scalps. Izuru's eyeliner looked like he had giant eyelashes under his eyes, and Mikumo's a line down his left eye.

The twins dressed similarly; boots with fur around the cuffs, black leather jeans with stitches up the front of the legs revealing their grey skin and held up by a white belt, and dark blue jackets with fur collars. Even so, they customised their outfits to match their own style. Izuru's jackets had the sleeves ripped off, and Mikumo's left jean leg was torn off at the top of his thigh.

Their personalities were as loud as their appearance. Izuru—and she wanted to put this as delicately as possible—seemed to be a few atoms short of a molecule. Mikumo, on the other hand, was brash and sneered at anyone who happened to look their way. And being as they were, the two garnered many looks.

While she and the other applicants waited for their turn for the interviews with the principal, Momo had overheard a conversation of theirs.

"Hey, Mikumo, look at that guy."

"Huh? That scarface guy?"

The boy she would later know as Todoroki narrowed his eyes at the pair, but was content to ignore them.

Izuru giggled. And wasn't that the word for that high pitched, manic sound? "Think he bleeds maple syrup?"

Momo blinked, having no idea what he was talking about. Mikumo, however, barked a laugh. "Probably! Reckon he'll apologise to us if we started something?" The twins cackled at something they clearly didn't feel the need to share with the rest of the room. Even so, Momo got the feeling it wasn't something particularly nice.

How on earth did these two both get recommendations for UA?

The door opened and a tall boy with a huge grin came out. He sat down in his chair as a head poked out of the room he left. "Could Midoriya Izuru and Midoriya Mikumo please come in?"

Momo and the rest looked at the twins with confusion. Both of them at the same time? Even if they were twins, that was irregular.

"Our turn, huh? About time. I was starting to get bored," Mikumo said, slouching to his feet. Momo wasn't even sure how he did it, but he did. Izuru giggled, repeating "our turn" to himself as he followed his brother inside the room.

Well, they were certainly a pair of characters. For the rest of the day, Momo brushed them out of her mind. She very much doubted that she'd see them again. They didn't seem to be good fits for UA.

Apparently, surviving a terrifying villain attack meant you were stuck up and arrogant and needed taking down a peg. That's what the crowd outside of their classroom seemed to think, at least. One boy even mentioned how they were all gunning for one of their places in the hero course. Not that Momo had to worry about that. She was here on recommendation, so she was positive that she would be able to maintain her place in the hero course.

After the tired looking boy said his piece, Bakugo tried to leave, but not before riling the crowd up even more. Honestly. As talented as he was, she sometimes wondered if he was in the right place.

Hmm, the sentiment felt familiar. Where did she…

"Oi, oi, oi, same attitude as ever, eh, Kacchan?"

"Hee hee hee, Kacchan's mad mad mad!"

Bakugo's brow twitched so hard it could have been scored on the Richter scale. "Deku!"

Huh, those voices sounded familiar.

The crowd parted, and who approached? Why, none other than the Midoriya twins. Having seen them in their casual clothing, they looked almost bizarre in the UA uniform. Almost, because the two had customised it. Izuru's blazer sleeves were ripped off, and Mikumo had done away with his left trouser leg. They still had their eyeliner on, though their hair dye seemed to have been topped up, green roots no longer in sight.

"Hng!" Momo looked to Iida, who looked like he was in the middle of an aneurysm. His eyes were bouncing between the brother's clothing and faces. It seemed like the sheer shock of their appearances was causing his brain to crash.

Izuru hung off his brother's shoulder, Mikumo showing no sign of discomfort at his brother's clingliness. Mikumo had a snarky grin, and Izuru a mad smile, as they looked at Bakugo.

"So, Kacchan, still acting like you're top dog? Not that you ever were, with us around."

Izuru giggled. "Top dog. Bottom bitch, more like."

Mikumo cackled. "HAH! Nice one, Izuru!"

Bakugo's hands twitched.

"Ah, ah, careful, Kacchan," Mikumo said, wagging a finger. "We'd just hate to have to humiliate you in front of all these people."

"We would?" Izuru blinked. "Oh, I get it. We actually wouldn't! Hee hee."

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THE PRESTIGIOUS UNIFORM OF UA, YOU MISCREANTS!"

Oh dear, Mount Iida erupted.

"Hah?" Mikumo raised a brow at Iida, while Izuru blinked. "What do you mean? We just made it look more badass, is all."

Iida's red face couldn't say much good for his blood pressure. "We all have the honour of wearing this uniform, worn by our seniors and many great heroes, including the current two two heroes in the country! Yet you two would dare desecrate this sacred garment!"

Oh, Iida. A bit much, don't you think?

"Who do you two think you are!?"

The twins grinned. "Glad you asked."

"I'm Midoriya Izuru!"

"And I'm Midoriya Mikumo!"

"And together."

"We are."

"Izuku!" As one, the twins pointed at Iida as they made this final declaration. Both had large grins.

"Oh my god, that's adorable," Momo heard Uraraka whisper.

Hmm, Momo thought it was more strange than cute.

"Anyway, we wanted to swing on by to see what 1-A was made of," Mikumo said, lowering his arm to put it in his pocket. Izuru seemed content to keep his up. "When we heard about the USJ incident?" He whistled. "Boy, were we jealous!"

"Jealous!?" Mineta screeched, gaping at them. "Why the hell would you be jealous?" She hated to say it, but she agreed with Mineta.

"Because we wanted a piece of that! You have any idea how lucky you guys are?"

"Lucky, lucky!" Izuru chanted.

"Besides, if we had been there, we would have had it sorted out in about five minutes," Mikumo said, shrugging his free shoulder. "Izuku would have taken all those villains on, single-handedly."

"But there's two of you?" Kaminari muttered.

Jirou scoffed. "Get real. You have no idea what happened at the USJ, the odds we faced. Besides, are you two even in the hero course?"

Mikumo looked greatly affronted, though the grin on his face took away from it. He put a hand on his chest. "Is Izuku in the hero course? Of course we are. Class 1-B."

"Hee hee, we got in on recommendation," Izuru said, arm still raised.

"Recommendation! Seriously?" Ashido gaped.

"You two did? Like fuck!" Awase said, shaking his head.

"Oh yeah? Well, just ask Mr Maple Syrup and Bazongas over there," Mikumo said, nodding at Momo and Todoroki.

"Maple Syrup?"

Momo covered her chest with an arm. Despite how he addressed her, however, Mikumo didn't even spare a glance at her...whatever he called them. Still…

"I do remember seeing them at the recommendation interviews," she admitted. Everyone looked to Todoroki, who stood at the back of the classroom.

"...I don't remember them."

"Hah? Really?" Mikumo said, taking a step forward. Izuru let him go, his arm still pointing at Iida. "You don't remember how Izuru and I wrecked everyone in that little race? Then again, we did hit you all with a Purple Bomb, so maybe you remember it differently."

"Hee hee, Maple Syrup fell over."

Todoroki's eyes widened. "That was you two..."

Momo blinked. These two came first in their race? Considering that Momo knew that Todoroki did better in his race then she did hers...did that mean the Midoriya twins were the number one recommendation students?

Todoroki was giving them wary looks, now. Just what did they do?

"So, wait, both of you took up the other two recommended slots?" The tired boy finally spoke up again. Everyone turned to him, remembering he was still there. "Heh, you two must have been born with amazing quirks."

Mikumo grinned. "Something like that. Anyway," he shrugged, walking back to Izuru's side. Izuru, his arm shaking, rested it on Mikumo's shoulder. He was still pointing at Iida. "We just wanted to drop by and tell you all that none of you stand a chance against class 1-B, let alone Izuku."

"YEAH! YOU TELL 'EM, MIKUMO!" A boy from the back of the crowd yelled, his head appearing for a brief moment. It popped back up. "Class 1-B is gonna wreck you 1-A posers!"

"Mikumo! My arm is tired!"

Mikumo shrugged. "Alright, let's leave then. Move it, peanut gallery!" The crowd parted again for the duo. As they left, Izuru twisted around to keep pointing at Iida, while still leaning on Mikumo, until the two were out of sight.

"...I'm just going to leave now," the tired boy said, shuffling away as if full steps took too much effort.

With his departure the spell over the crowd was broken and they all left. Bakugo spat a curse and stormed off. Iida still seemed stuck in indignant inertia. Momo patted him on the shoulder as she left.

"...That was something," Jirou said, walking alongside her.

"Yes, it certainly was."

"You know anything about those guys?"

Momo hummed. "Only that they were just as crude back then as they were today. Still, they must be impressive if they made it in through recommendations."

Jirou smirked. "Careful there, Yaoyarozu, sounds like you're getting a bit cocky."

"Hm?" Momo thought about what she said, her cheeks heating up. "I-I didn't mean to imply-" she sputtered for a minute until Jirou laughed, telling her she was kidding. Momo shook her head.

As they went to lunch, Momo put the Midoriya twins out of her mind. If they really were all that, then they would show it at the sports festival.

An obstacle course, an interesting first event. Momo knew she wasn't going to get first place. Not with opponents like Bakugo, Todoroki, and Iida, but she was positive that she could still place highly.

Todoroki made a good attempt at delaying them all with his ice, but the quick creation of a pole helped her avoid that. Her classmates each had their own ways of avoiding it, too.

He'd also swiftly dealt with a couple of those Zero Pointers that the other applicants had had to deal with in the entrance exam. They were quite ludicrous. Still, nothing a quick cannon couldn't fi-

"Look at those things, Izuru! They're huge!"

"Hee! Big mechs!"

The Midoriya twins again. While the students without aerial options dallied in front of the machines, the two were looking up at them with grins. By some miracle they hadn't customised their track suits, though the eyeliner remained.

One of the Zero Pointers threw a punch at the brothers. Momo was curious to see how they'd handle it.

In a smooth motion, the twins pulled out golden revolvers from their pockets. Standing back to back, they pointed the guns at the fist, the barrels almost touching. In perfect synch, the two declared, "Red Bomb!" and pulled their triggers.

A huge fireball blasted from the barrels, engulfing the fist and, indeed, the entire robot. The giant of now molten slag fell apart with a crash.

"WOAH! THE MIDORIYA TWINS JUST PULLED OUT SOME GUNS AND SHOT THE ZERO POINTER WITH A FIREBALL!" Present Mic's voice blared out from the speakers. "HEY, ARE THEY ALLOWED TO HAVE THOSE!?"

"They signed the permission forms," Aizawa's tired voice followed. "Supposedly they're to let the twins focus their quirk. Vlad seemed to have no issue with the pair using them, either. Apparently, they're not even real guns, so they're only as dangerous any other quirk out there."

So their quirks let them shoot fireballs? Momo had been expecting something a bit more...well, more after all the build up.

The next obstacle was a ravine with various platforms and rope to cross between them. Fortunately, Momo was well versed in keeping the required balance to walk along the ropes. Those etiquette lessons had their benefits.

"This it? No problem!"

"Easy, easy!"

Once again her attention was brought over to the twins. They had their guns out again, pointing at the closest platform.

Momo wasn't sure how a fireball was supposed to help here-

"Blue Bomb!"

Momo's mind went blank as ice shot from the barrels. It soon formed a bridge for the pair to cross. Once they crossed, they pointed their guns back. A student who'd been about to take advantage of the bridge froze, squeaking.

"White Bomb!"

Momo...wasn't sure how to describe what happened. The two pulled their triggers and the ice bridge was just...gone. The student fell on their bottom, staring wide eyed at the spot where the bridge they almost stepped on had been.

"Blue Bomb!"

The twins proceeded to repeat this process, making their way across in short order. Momo watched for a moment, then shook her head. She kept getting distracted by those two and their strange quirks. Quirk? Did they have separate, similar quirks, or-

No, she was getting distracted again. She needed to focus on her own performance, not anyone else's.

She'd made it to the end despite a certain incident. Mineta was a gross little creep, and she'd almost been caught up in his scheme to get through the first event without any actual effort.

The second task had been announced, and it was a cavalry battle. Momo was a little excited. She'd never been involved in a cavalry battle before. Her school never bothered with such "base" activities.

"Hey, teach! Do we have to be in one of these dumb formations?" Mikumo had asked, raising his hand in the middle of the crowd.

"Of course! Wouldn't be much of a cavalry battle if you weren't," Midnight said, cracking her riding crop.

The twins looked at each other, and shrugged. "Well, guess it's time, Izuru."

"Yep, yep, time for Izuku!"

A white aura started pulsing around the twins. It expanded, engulfing the pair. Then, a strange music started playing. It almost sounded like carnival music. Somehow, musical notes appeared in the air, likely the exact same notes as the song. The crowd went silent, and Momo frowned, looking up at a speaker.

"WHOA!? WHERE'D THIS MUSIC COME FROM? THIS IS NOT ON MY TURNTABLES!"

So, it wasn't coming from the speakers…

"A long long time ago, there was a cradle…"

The twins were...singing?

"And in the cradle, there is another cradle…"

It was a rather haunting melody, all things considered. Even so, the twins had an oddly pleasing harmony. The white light had vanished, and Momo could see the twins looking over their shoulders as they sang. Izuru slowly raised his gun at Mikumo's head.

"One cradle had become a twin, now..." Mikumo raised his gun at Izuru's head. "One of the cradles got lost in the mist. A star is shining brightly at the sacred place… And it disappeared."

And then, they pulled the triggers.

The crowd screamed, and Momo watched, numb. Purple energy spewed from their heads, like a bleeding wound. W..What just...Did they…

Momo's eyes caught movement at their feet. Looking down, she saw that the twins shadows were acting… strange. "They're...merging together?"

As if things couldn't get any weirder, the twins bodies exploded in smoke. Coughs sounded throughout the stadium as the students waved it away. Then, the smoke was blown away. Blinking smoke from her eyes, Momo took sight of the twins.

Or she would, if they hadn't vanished. And, standing where their shadows had merged stood a new being. They had long blonde hair that came down to their waist, with black swirls at the crown. Their skin was grey, and they had the same eyeliner pattern as Izuru. However, they also appeared to have black lipstick on. Small fangs poked over their lip.

The stadium all gaped at the new figure.

"W-W-WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!? E-ERASER, ARE YOU SEEING THIS!? WHAT'S GOING ON"

"That's Midoriya Izuku," Aizawa said, sounding utterly unphased. "The Midoriya twins' true form. His quirk split him into two as a baby, creating Izuru and Mikumo. Izuru and Mikumo can fuse back into Izuku whenever they please, although I'm unsure if the song and... action are necessary. Anyway, that's why the twins both count as a single student on the records, and why they also count as a single recommendation student."

...They did? Momo must have missed that memo.

"WHAT THE HELL KIND OF QUIRK DO THE- DOES HE EVEN HAVE!?"

"Don't you ever read the files?" Aizawa sighed. "What sort of teacher are you?"

"Problem sorted," Izuku said, folding his arms. His voice was a fusion of both Izuru and Mikumo's. "Now I don't need my guns." Putting a hand on his hip, he gave the group at large a fanged smirk. "So, who wants to be on the winning team?"

It took five minutes for anyone to have the mental wherewithal to respond.

The second event was going to be wild.
