AN: Thanks for the suggestion, Lost!

Spring 1996

"Are you sure you're alright?", Romilda asked worriedly.

"She would be if you stopped asking her", Lavender snapped. "You're just upsetting her more!"

Darcy shoved the rest of her clothes into her trunk and shut it. She took a steadying breath before speaking.

"I'll be fine", she told them. "I'm honestly kind of glad it happened right before break, I don't have to see him for two weeks."

"Do Sirius and Remus know?", Hermione piped up.

Darcy groaned. "Not yet. I'll wait until I'm less likely to cry about it, which will make them less likely to kill him."

"Smart", Romilda nodded.

"If I can pull it off", Darcy sighed. She pulled her trunk off the bed and picked up Hedwig's cage before saying goodbye to her friends and heading for the Defense classroom.

You're fine, she told herself. You're fine, everything is fine. Just keep smiling.

She walked inside.

"There she is", Sirius said. "About time you showed up."

"Sorry, we were talking."

"You're perfectly fine, sweetheart", Remus chuckled. "Did you say goodbye to Theo?"

Darcy's heart twisted at the mention of her now ex boyfriend. "Yeah, I did. Can we go?"

They left through the floo in their office and emerged in their sitting room. Darcy went to unpack her trunk, and once her bedroom door was closed, she felt tears threatening to fall again.

She wasn't sure how long she had been alone before there was a knock on the door.

"Hey, Remus wants to know if you–what's wrong?"

Darcy didn't even realize she was crying. She shook her head and turned away.

"None of that", Sirius said. He closed the space between them and wrapped an arm around her. "Talk to me, love."

"This morning", she sniffed. "A-at breakfast, Theo b-broke up with me."

Sirius put his other arm around her and pulled her to his chest. "I'm sorry, kiddo. Why didn't you say something earlier? We could've left right after breakfast."

Darcy shrugged and burrowed deeper into his arms. A hug from him was exactly what she needed.

"I was going to ask if you wanted ice cream", Sirius told her. "But I think I know the answer. Let's go downstairs."

He led her by the hand down to the kitchen. Remus frowned when he saw her.

"What's the matter, cub?"

Darcy shook her head.

"Our little girl is going through her first breakup, Moony", Sirius said sadly.

"Oh, sweetheart, I'm so sorry." Remus opened his arms and Darcy let go of her godfather to hug him. He squeezed her tightly and kissed the top of her head. "When did it happen?"

"This morning", she sniffed. "At breakfast."

"I'm so sorry", he said again. "I was going to offer you ice cream anyway, but I think it's a given now. Sit down."

Darcy did, wiping at her eyes with the back of her hand. Sirius sat beside her and rubbed her back.

"Between you and me", he said. "Teenage boys are overrated."

"I agree", Remus chuckled as he brought over three bowls of ice cream. "And we're speaking from experience."

Darcy smiled as she began eating.

"Do you want to talk about anything?", Remus asked gently.

"Not right now", she shook her head. "I'd really like to take my mind off of it."

"We have a good story about our first years you might like", Sirius smirked.

"Sirius–"

"What happened?", Darcy asked.

"The sweetest little Hufflepuff has a crush on Remus", Sirius chuckled. "She's adorable. At the end of class yesterday she came up to the desk and told him he was her favorite teacher. I pretended not to be offended."

"By that he means he teased her until she blushed", Remus corrected.

"That's so cute", Darcy giggled. "It's always weird when girls in my year have crushes on you guys. Lavender was obsessed with Sirius during our third year."

"Was that the year she asked to come here over the summer?", Sirius asked.

"Yeah, and she kept asking me weird questions about you", Darcy shuddered. "So glad she's over you."

"How do you feel, cub?", Remus asked after a beat.

Darcy shrugged. "I don't know. Still sad, but not as much as this morning."

"Are you sure you don't want to talk about it?"

"He said that he hopes we can still be friends", she said. "Do we have to be? Because...I don't think I can do that."

"Everyone says that after a breakup", Sirius shook his head. "It hardly ever works out, at least while you're still young. When you get older maybe you'll reconnect."

"Did that happen with you guys?"

"Oh, yeah", Remus nodded. "I just got a letter from Dorcas Meadows the other day. We dated for nearly two years in school."

"How's she doing?", Sirius asked.

"Very well. She's pregnant, actually."

"Wow, good for her. The point is, love, there isn't a predetermined timeline for when you're supposed to get over this. You move at your own pace. Although, I wouldn't be thrilled if you were still crying about this git a year from now."

"Neither would I", Darcy agreed. "Thanks, guys."

"Of course."

"Anytime."

"Can I have more ice cream?", she asked.

"No, that's enough", Remus replied.

"But I just got broken up with!"

"Making yourself sick will not make you feel better."

"I won't be sick."

"Let's not test it. Besides, I can already tell you're getting hyper over there. Another bowl and you'll be bouncing off the walls."

"I can handle sugar", Darcy argued.

"But it can't handle you. The answer is no, Darcy."

She sighed dramatically. "Fine. I'll just be sad forever, and it's all your fault." She stood from the table to put her bowl in the sink and yelped when Sirius swatted her.

"Hey!"

Sirius stuck his tongue out at her, and she returned the gesture.

"You're mean", Darcy accused playfully.

"Oi, watch it, or I might just prove you right."

Remus shook his head, but he was happy Darcy was being her goofy self. Anything was better than crying over a boy.

"Come here, cub", he said. Darcy walked over and he pulled her into his lap. She immediately snuggled into his arms.

"Let us know if you ever feel like talking more, okay?"

"Okay", she whispered back. "Thanks."

"Of course. I love you."

"Love you too."

Remus kissed her cheek and chuckled. "You have ice cream all over your face."

Darcy tried to stand up to go clean herself up, but he held her tighter.

"No, no, let me." Remus began peppering her face with kisses.

"Stop!", Darcy giggled.

"Hey, it worked, didn't it? Can I have a kiss?"She kissed his cheek.

"Thank you. Now, really, go clean your face."

She rolled her eyes and stood up before leaving the room.

"Do you think she'll be okay?", Sirius asked.

"I think she'll be just fine."
