"So we went from our six-foot, 200lb suspect to a woman. Where can we start investigating to put an end to this, Mike? The press is hot on our heels and I am getting a bit nervous myself. I already upped security downstairs and sent out a staff memo telling everyone to be on the lookout. But how can they do that if we don't even know what our killer looks like?"
Dewitt leaned back in the dark red leather chair, his hand shaking slightly as his blue eyes scanned the Lieutenant worriedly.
"I understand that, Roy.", Mike justified eagerly and shook his head, "We're having R&I look into any possible ties. And Gerry is getting us a warrant for both, the bank over on the northside of Geary and the parking garage off in the east to see if they captured anything."
"Mhm."
Scratching his chin nervously, the newly-promoted Captain of Homicide grunted in frustration, his fingers tapping the wooden surface of his large desk in apparent nervousness.
"You said you got Murchison to work on the profile? Or Keller?"
"Keller, yes.", Mike said, almost biting his tongue and clearing his throat to cover up the discomfort that he knew made his face turn ashen, "We ehm…we're going to head over to Diamond Heights to see if they have any record of a female recruit that went through the courses when either one of our victims went through Police Academy. We already cross-checked departmental records with HR downstairs and we're not seeing any apparent connection."
"There's gotta be something that we're all overlooking, Michael."
Dewitt's tone grew more urgent as he clenched his hand to a tight fist and slammed it on the desk, before shaking his head. And for once, Mike couldn't agree more.
"Believe me Roy, I've gone as far as looking into my own past to see if somebody with a grudge could be punishing these guys, but it still doesn't add up."
When a tense silence befell the brass office, the Lieutenant glanced down at his interlaced fingers; the gold wedding band that stood as a symbol for so much more than just unconditional love, and the many journeys it followed him to over the years.
Pushing the emotional thought out of his mind as soon as it arose, he glanced back up in time to see Roy shrug impatiently.
"Well, we need something. I think we can all agree that the longer we wait, the higher the chance that this woman will strike again. I need to hold another press conference tomorrow, let's hope you guys will have a little bit more by then."
