Chapter 13: Psychic types are a work of art, aren't they.

The journey from Lavender Town to Saffron City was pretty much uneventful. There were a lot of trainers practising here and there, but I didn't see any particular need to fight them. I wanted to make it to Saffron City as fast as I could before sundown. It took us around seven hours on foot to travel the entirety of Route 8 and reach Saffron. It was already late afternoon, so I decided to postpone the gym match for tomorrow.

Saffron City was one of the largest cities in the world in the six regions. This was primarily due to the presence of Silph Co, which was one of the biggest economical powers in the world. Silph were known for their state of the art machine technology and were one of the two official contractors for the Pokémon League in all of the regions. This meant that they were responsible for the proper conduct of the League. The other company was the Devon Corporation from Hoenn who were the biggest in the field.

The presence of Silph's Headquarters meant that other smaller shops as well as establishments had a chance to grow their business. This eventually led to the expansion of the city. Saffron had more than a hundred active police officers around at any given time. This reduced the rate of crime significantly compared to other similarly large cities like Lumios.

Speaking of the justice system, Pokémon trainers at large were not included in the scope of actions of the regular government. The League itself was the governing body when it came to the Pokémon trainers. When a trainer is suspected or arrested for any form of misconduct or illegal activities, they are usually handed over to the League who decides their punishments. In case of extremely severe offenses like say Murder, the trainer's license is permanently revoked and their Pokémon are seized and released.

The reason why the League went this far is to avoid Pokémon being part of governmental policies. This practise has been there for almost over three centuries and it's efficiency is unquestionable as the last inter region war was held over 350 years ago. Nowadays, the regions are extremely friendly with each other and in ten years from now, a program which allowed new trainers to choose the region they wanted to start their journey in will be established.

Anyways, Kanto's government was pretty much non influential in day to day life. Their job was to maintain peace and order as well as basic development. Other than that, there was nothing much for the government to do. The officials are chosen by the League as well as the more influential figures like the Elite four, Champion and Professor Oak.

The insides of Saffron City were a labyrinth that had a lot of hidden treasures. I myself was looking forward to getting my hands on some of them. I also wanted to restock on essential supplies like Super Potions as well as to buy Hyper Potions and the like. I had a lot of cash from all the battles that I had been to. Around half of the money that I earned was send to mom so that she didn't need to worry about cash any longer. Being a Pokémon trainer was a wealthy profession if you win consistently. In my case, there are hardly anything that I buy unless they can bring me an advantage in the future.

Status restoring items like Potions and Revives were banned from being used in a trainer battle. This was to avoid the rich kid from overusing their parent's money and get an advantage over those are less rich. The implication of this was that hardly anyone needed to carry more that 5 or six such items at a given time. But in my case, I needed a lot more of them due to my training camps.

We entered the Pokémon Centre and registered to stay for the night. Saffron's Pokémon Centre was ten times bigger than the average Pokémon Centre and had a lot of room to stay. However, the number of trainers that was present was unbelievably low due to Sabrina's recent breakdown. Nurse Joy even warned us against fighting her unprepared. Since she hasn't harmed anyone yet, the League wouldn't take action unless something unexpected happens. I had my plans for her, but that could wait.

We decided to split up for the rest of the day as Brock intended to visit a Breeding Centre in the city and I wanted to complete the hunt for the hidden treasures. The first thing that was on my list was a fossil. Well, it was yet to be identified as a fossil. I only knew of it because I came across it when I was around twenty. From what I heard from the owner, that fossil was there for a long time now. As such, I decided to buy it now. The fossil was of an Omanyte and I was planning on giving it to Brock as a gift. Omanyte was not the kind of Pokémon that I liked to train but was perfect for Brock.

The old man's store was in one of the hidden corners of the city and thus, had a little to no customer. He lived in the first floor of this building and opened the store as a hobby more than anything. From what he told me, he was an old trainer himself but was retired now and decided to run a store in his hometown just for fun. The items in here were collected by him throughout his journeys.

I simply skimmed through his collection and to my surprise, I came across a pair of Dawn and Dusk stones.

"Hey gramps. Can you tell me what this is?" I decided to ask the old man to make sure that I was not making a mistke.

"Let me look. Oh. That is a Dawn stone and a Dusk stone. They are evolutionary stones like the Fire Stone and Water Stones found here. There is no Pokémon in Kanto that uses them, so it was lying around". The old man explained.

"So these are real?" I asked.

"Well yes. I got them from somewhere in Sinnoh back when I was travelling. But I don't have any Pokémon that uses these to evolve so it was left alone. So, do you want to buy them? I'll sell it to you for 3000 Pokedollars for the pair."

"You have a deal gramps. Also, I'll be buying that rock over there." I said, pointing towards the fossil.

"That'll be an extra 500 bucks. Do you want me to pack it for you?" He asked.

"No i'll put it in the bag." I collected my purchase and proceeded to pay the money before leaving.

My next destination was a fishing store. I wanted to purchase a Fishing Rod before leaving here. This was the only place where I could buy rods at a cheaper rate as Saffron was not near the sea. It cost me 5000 Poke for the Rod which was equipped with the latest technology which allowed it to shrink when not in use like a Pokeball. I even ran into a couple of fishing enthusiasts that ended up chattering a lot to me. They gave me a Lucky lure as compensation so I didn't mind it that much. There was a trainer school nearby which unlike Poketech, was much more battle oriented. The trainers here were all rookies that decided to get the basics right before leaving on their journeys. After all, Gary and I were lucky to have grown up with Professor Oak watching over us, even if my dumb ass forgot half the things that I learned even before I left for the journey. I ended up giving a few advice to the kids here before going to the next place.

The next location was the most important location that I wanted to visit in this city. It was a Pokemart specifically for selling TMs and was only found in Saffron, Celadon, Fuschia and Cinnabar.

TM or Technical Machines were terms used to describe an item that stored the knowhow of a move in it. These items were yet to be popular as they were created not too long ago by collaboration between all the major Corporations. There were a total of 66 TMs in Kanto with a grand total of 180 Tms across all the regions. The program itself was just getting started, and was not really popular among trainers as there was no guarantee that a Pokémon could learn a TM move. The program itself became popular after ten years from now when every single TM was deemed to be successful and a list of Pokémon who could learn each one was published.

Naturally, I am probably the only person in the world right now that knows which TM is effective on which Pokémon and as such, I had no qualms in buying it right now. What made things all the better was that TMs were sold at an incredibly low price due to being in their starting stage. This was a win-win for me. Out of the sixty six TMs in Kanto, the first 16 was sold here in Saffron while the next 16 was sold in Celadon, the next 17 in Fuschia and the last 17 in Cinnabar.

"Hello sir. This is the TM mart, how can I help you?" The lady who was the saleswoman, greeted me.

"I want to buy all of the TMs in here." I replied.

"Are you sure sir? We are indeed offering a fifty percent discount but it's still going to be a heavy sum." The lady said. I mean, each TM cost a considerable amount of 2100 Poke, which meant that I needed to pay 16800poke for 16 of them at a 50 percent discount.

"Yes. I will pay through the trainer card." I said. Although it was a hefty sum, I could still afford it comfortably. After all, the reward for winning a gym battle started at 2000Poke and for every badge, there was an increase of 500bucks in prize money. Moreover, al the trainer battles that I went through also helped a lot. Each trainer battle irrespective of level gave a prize money of 1000 bucks which meant that I was already really well off.

"Thank you for the purchase Sir. Here's a Premium Ball to commemorate your purchase. The lady said handing over all my discs and a white Pokeball.

Tms, on first glance looked like a small disc wrapped in a transparent rectangular box with black borders. The working of this machine was quite complicated. When a Pokémon is matched with a compatible TM, they get a rough idea on how the move works. However, a lot of work is needed to be done before they can actually use the move in battle. Pokémon that learn moves by this method needs to practise a lot before they can match a Pokémon who learned the move naturally. Moreover, a Pokémon can only learn one TM at a time. Unless they master the first one, they'll never be able to learn a second one.

For now, I was not going to teach any TM until I finished the gym battle. So I decided to walk around the city to see the attractions. I went to different places and ran into a lot of different people. I even helped an old lady to carry her shopping bags and she gave me a berry as thanks. I even went to the Silph Tower which was the tallest building in Kanto. There was a light show which was beautiful to watch. After eating dinner, I went to the Pokémon Centre and met up with Brock who also had watched the light show from a different place.

"Hey Brock, I've got a gift for you." I said.

"What is it Ash?" He asked.

"Here. It's a fossil." I handed him the fossil.

"Wait! What? How did you get this?" Brock was bewildered to say.

"There was an old man selling rocks in the city. I bought it from him." I replied.

"So how did you know this was a fossil?" Brock was right in asking that question.

"Because I saw a few of them in Professor Oak's lab." I'm sorry Professor, but I need to make you a scapegoat here.

"I see. Thank you Ash. I'll take good care of it." Brock replied.

"There's a fossil revival centre in Cinnabar that you can make use of." I informed him.

"Thank you Ash." He replied.

After a little chat about our day, we went to sleep.

The next day, I was standing in front of the gym. I was not really nervous in the sense of failing, but nonetheless, there was a feeling of unease in my mind. I had asked Brock not to accompany me as there was a risk of Sabrina attacking him. Anyways, after psyching myself up, I decided to go in. A lot of Sabrina's underlings were standing in line and before I could ask about whom to challenge, a girl came to me and said. "You are master Ash Ketchum right? Lady Sabrina is expecting your arrival. Please follow me."

I followed behind her, ignoring the jealous stare that the males were giving me. Soon enough I came face to face with the girl who was voted as the most beautiful girl of the region in the future. I thanked my ten year old body for its lack of hormone production cause I would have a hard time facing her otherwise, she was just that beautiful. Now I know why those guys were jealous.

"So you've arrived, Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town. You are later than I expected." Sabrina said.

"I had a lot of things to do. So anyways, since you already know who i am, then let's get down to business shall we?" I said.

"Of course. When you lose, you must become my friend." Sabrina's doll, which had materialised said.

"Fine by me. I'm not going to lose anyways." I replied with confidence.

"Very well, then it shall be a one on one match. I shall choose Kadabra." Sabrina called out the psychic Pokémon which had made a joke out of Pikachu in my last life.

"Haunter, take the stage." My own counter to Sabrina was ready.

"How foolish. To think that you can win with a simple type advantage. Kadabra, use Psychic." The order was given.

"Haunter, dodge it." Although both of them were near the same level and had the same base speed stat, mine was faster and was able to dodge it in time but barely.

"Kadabra. Psychic once again." "Haunter, use shadow ball." Both orders were given out at virtually the same time and both the Pokémon were quick in answering the orders and the result was quite spectacular. By the time Haunter finished the Shadow Ball and launched it, Kadabra also attacked with the Psychic energy that he was collecting on Haunter. Since he was too focused on the attack, Kadabra was unable to dodge the Sahdow Ball, which did a lot of damage.

"Haunter, use Shadow Punch." I decided to press on the offensive.

"Kadabra, use teleport to dodge." Sabrina commanded.

But soon Haunter went into corner and gave a punch, which connected with Kadabra who reappeared in the battle ground.

"But how?" Sabrina was puzzled.

"Simple, because Shadow Punch never misses. Haunter, Shadow Ball." I commanded.

"Kadabra. Use Psychic." Once again, it was the repeat of the first sequence and both parties took a lot of damage.

" Kadabra, use Recover." There it was. The move that made Sabrina so hard to deal with in one on one.

"Haunter, Shadow balls and keep em coming." I decided to not give her a chance at the offensive. The problem with recover was that while it was being done, the Pokémon was a sitting duck for attacks. The Volley of Shadow Balls that my Haunter sent never stopped for some time, after the end of which Kadabra was lying unconscious on the ground.

"Impossible." I heard Sabrina say.

"Well, that's that. Haunter, return." I recalled my Pokémon.

"I won fair and square, so give me my badge." I demanded.

"Why won't you be my friend?" Well shit! The thing that I was worried about the most just became the reality. Sabrina just lost control.

"Why won't you play with me?" Inner Sabrina was going bananas here. Things were starting to float around due to her powers which were not a good sign. I decided to do something quite brave but incredibly stupid. I ran towards her and scooped up her in a bear hug.

The only reason that I wasn't made a doll out of was due to the fact that I knew how to use Aura. I mean, I was not an Aura guardian or something like that, but I knew a few tricks using it. I let my aura flow into her, calming her raging powers and slowly, everything calmed down. To an extent, I knew where she was coming from. After all, she was always alone as a child due to her powers and this caused a lot of damage on her psyche. I can't reverse twelve years worth of damage in a single moment, but it was a start I guess.

My treatment was proven to be effective as she was starting to calm down and her rampaging powers were also calming.

"Have you calmed down yet?" I asked her before trying to dislodge myself from the hug, only to get locked in the embrace by her. She was now fully supported by me as her legs were locked on my waist and her arms were behind my neck. As someone who carried a 72kg Larvitar around with ease, I could easily bear her weight. I patted the poor girl on the back as she just stayed in position. Soon, the floating doll, which was glaring bloody murder at me disappeared and one by one, people started appearing in the room.

Talk about awkward. Sabrina's dad and mom were currently looking at their daughter lodged in the arms of a random stranger looking content. The mom was looking like she would break out Ara ara'ing any second now and the dad was torn between being shocked and glaring bloody murder. The short peace that I got when the doll was gone was once again gone. The random trainers that was made a doll out of ran out like mindless chickens, never to be seen again and it was just me, Sabrina, her mom and a wannabe killer left.

It took her another half an hour before she finally decided to come back down and I could see that she had a good blush on her face and was no longer looking like a psycho out for blood, which wasn't saying much given the fact that her dad took over for her in that part.

"So are you calm now? I would like my badge now." I decided to get the hell out of this place before something unsightly took place.

"Yes.' Don't blush woman. And you! Don't look at me like that. I cursed the day that I decided to challenge this gym in my mind. Anyways I got my Badge without any problems and as I was planning my great escape, I got sniped from an unexpected corner.

"Ara, Ash was it? Why don't you visit us for lunch. I am happy that my daughter finally made a friend." That was unexpected and when I checked the watch, it was indeed nearing noon. Fearing that refusal would get me in deeper trouble, I decided to accept.

Contrary to my belief, Lunch was not a bad thing after all. The lady who was stuck as a doll for Arceus knows how long didn't lose touch with her culinary skills at all. It was a rather great affair if you could ignore the dad looking like he'll murder me any second now and Sabrina herself looking like she was on dreamland.

"You know what kid? Thank you." Sabrina papa said as I was exiting the house after dinner.

"For what?" I asked.

"For helping my daughter. I don't know how you did it, but thanks to you she smiled again. I can't thank you enough." He said.

"You're welcome." I replied.

"But just for this, don't think i'll approve you. I'll never give my baby girl to anyone." He yelled as he ran into the sunset while tears were flowing out of his eyes, which made no sense cause it was just noon right now.

Anyways, as I was heading back to the Pokémon Centre to meet up with Brock, I asked the system

'Hey system? Didn't you say that there was feature called Local Link available after beating Sabrina? What is that about?'

'Yes host. The Local Link is a feature crafted by the creator to allow the Host to evolve Pokémon that usually requires to be traded for evolving.

This feature can be used for three Pokémon at maximum at a time and has a cooldown period of three months.

Warning!

Evolveable Pokémon detected in party.

Would you like to evolve them now?

Yes No

'I choose no for now. Let's do it after we get out of the city.' I said.

'As the Host's wish.'

I rejoined Brock in the Pokémon Centre who was packing the necessary items for the trip and soon after, we hit the road to Route 9.

That's it for today folks. In case you didn't notice, this story was supposed to be a humour one, which is just me finding a dump for all the stupid jokes in my head. Hope you liked it anyways. In case it was too cringy, please say that but in a mild manner so that my feelings won't be hurt. Since this part of the anime was one of the more heavier ones, I thought why not destroy it.

Anyways, TMs are now introduced but it doesn't mean that a Pokémon would learn all the TM moves tho. The number 66 comes from all the moves that were introduced in Gen 1 and became a TM in at least one Generation. Since the first 3 gen introduced almost three quarter of all TM, I decided to introduce Gen 2 moves in Johto and so on.

Last thing for the day is that someone asked me if I was going to do Galar and Alola and honestly, I felt happy that someone thinks that i would go that far. The thing that I can guarantee is that this fic will go up to Kalos for sure and Alola is a fifty fifty. But, Galar is not going to be there under any and all circumstances.

Anyways, Review more and make sure to stay safe. Only one more chapters left until the recommend is closed, so keep that in mind.
