Chapter 12

Liv was in hospital linked up to the machines on a ward. Rachel was standing by her waiting for a doctor to come and see them.

"I'm sorry" Liv spoke up to Rachel.

"For what darling?"

"Just been a cow, I know I haven't won daughter of the year"

"Hey, don't worry about it now. You remind me of me" Rachel smiled

Liv managed a smile, she had been given plenty of drugs to keep her pain free and stop her from being sick. She was also on a drip to keep her hydrated. A doctor came in and disturbed them.

"Hi" He smiled walking in.

"Doctor, can you tell us whats going on?" Rachel asked fed up of waiting.

"I've spoken with your consultants that's why there was a delay" He smiled "Liv had a full body scan when she came in as you know, after a brief discussion of the results, we have found that liv has a blockage in her small bowel, so unfortunately she is nil by mouth and will need to carry out surgery tomorrow morning."

"What's stuck?" Rachel sighed not needing this.

"It's hard to say, the scans have just shown a mass"

"What?" Both Rachel and Liv said in sync fearing the worse.

"I'm ninety percent sure it's not the big C don't worry"

"But there's still a chance?" Rachel asked sitting down taking it all in.

"There is but it's incredibly unlikely, where it is, seems to be a cyst which we can just remove, causes are likely to be hormonal changes in the body, medication changes all sorts"

Both nodded "okay, so she had a medication change a few months ago, could that have done it?"

"Again ive spoken to the consultants and it's possible, we won't know until we do a biopsy after the operation"

Rachel nodded.

"However, Whilst doing the scan we also checked out her lungs and they have deteriorated again so we will doing local anaesthetic tomorrow as it is keyhole and we need to put her back on the regular inhalers again, the leg has moved to stage 2 arthritis, I know you were told things were getting better and comparing the scans I can see why, but they have suddenly deteriorated, but nothing we can't help you with"

Rachel sat back and took hold of liv's hand.

"Get some rest, I'll see you in the morning" he smiled and left them

Liv looked at Rachel "am I gonna die?" She asked welling up into tears.

"No darling god no" Rachel stood up straight away and wrapped her arms around her daughter "I'm not leaving you sweetheart"

"But he said"

"I don't care what he said, we will get through this"

"Why is my life such a drama?" Liv asked moving away and smiling slightly.

"I don't know you tell me" Rachel managed a smiled and sat on the bed wiping her daughters eyes. "This is a small bump in the road"

Liv nodded. "Mom…I need to tell you something"

"What?" Rachel asked looking at her with her look.

"I slept with my boyfriend last night"

"You did what?" Rachel asked not getting angry, just giving her one of her looks.

Liv sighed "I slept with my boyfriend last night, he was really sweet, we used protection, I'm not pregnant everyone's happy" Liv said quickly.

Rachel looked down at the floor and just chuckled to herself.

"Why are you laughing?" Liv asked

"Because, me and your dad do it a lot, your grown up ive gotta accept that" Rachel shrugged

"bad images right there...Why you been so chill about it?" Liv asked worriedly.

Rachel smiled looking at her "I think we've got more important things to worry about right now, you just promise me you won't get pregnant and your use protection, double please"

Liv nodded "I promise"

Rachel nodded "we can discuss the pill if you want?"

"Mom, I take six tablets a day already, please just leave that alone"

"Alright" Rachel agreed. Suddenly her phone rang "ive got to get this it's work" she said getting up and leaving the room.

Liv sighed she knew her chat with her mum wouldn't last long.

After 10 minutes of being on her own, Rachel appeared by her bedside and sat on the bed again "right that's that sorted, ive taken the week off"

"Just like that?"

"Yep, your more important and it's about time I put my children first, I love my job I really do, but I can't let you go through this on your own it's not fair. Ive taken it unpaid compassionate leave"

"But bills need paying mom"

"And you need me here" she said putting a piece of liv's hair behind her ear. "I mean cabbage soup tastes nice right?" Rachel smiled, Liv smiled back. "Honest, we're fine, if needs be I'll use some savings been with you is more important right now, you need me and it's about time I'm here for you"

"But what about the schools"

"Liv, but nothing, they can survive for one week, if there desperate ive told them I'm answering emails and that's it"

Liv smiled and leaned forward and hugged her "thankyou"

Rachel held her back but sprang apart holding her side.

"Sorry you alright?"

"Yeah just in pain"

Liv nodded "you should get that seen too"

Rachel ignored her "We will have Charlotte at home too with us, we can have girly time"

"Oh yeah I won't be at school will I?" Liv said knowing not to push it any further, for once they were getting on.

"Well you won't for a week that's certain but probably until your stitches are out, but before I go back I will make sure you can do things for yourself."

Liv nodded "just got to get through tomorrow"

"You have but it will be okay" Rachel smiled
