[Thanksgiving: The Institute]
The efforts to find Valentine was starting to grow cold. He was completely silent. It was hard to continue going full speed a head when you had to continue to be defensive as well. Jocelyn limited patrols looking for evidence of Valentine and focused more on rigorous trainings. Demons were being held at bay and weren't as active since that day on the freighter. Bella was 13 weeks pregnant now, and she had a tiny little bump. She spent her time helping with runes. She studied over all the runes that were known to shadowhunters over the past few weeks, that she knew them all inside and out. She could easily teach others how to perfect the runes. There were two runes that other shadowhunters couldn't use, and it was the two runes that Clary and Bella had created. For some reason, the rune wouldn't work for others. Simon's theory was it was because Bella and Clary were more angelic. Their auras were different from the other shadowhunters. Most of the shadowhunters had the same aura, so it was easy to distinguish them from normal humans.
Clary focused a lot of her time on hand-to-hand. When they were kidnapped, Bella was fiercer, and was able to hold her own, even while being pregnant whereas Clary couldn't do half of what Bella did.
Magnus' presence in the Institute was more, and Alec and his relationship were not so secretive anymore. Jocelyn didn't want Alec to hide who he was. Maryse and Robert refused to speak about their son's sexuality, and that bothered Jocelyn the most.
"Bella," Alec said, breaking Bella out of her bubble. She was doodling different runes in a sketchbook. She was waiting on Jace to return from patrol. She hated it everytime he left. She was afraid that he wouldn't make it back.
Bella looked up at Alec. "Hmm?"
"Your phone is ringing." He said with a smile.
"Oh," She said and looked at it. Charlie was calling her. She answered. "Hey dad."
"Bells, I was missing your voice kiddo. How are things in New York?" Charlie's voice was light, and happy that he was able to finally get ahold of her.
"Oh, you know. It's New York. How's Forks?" She asked, doodling with her pencil.
There was a pause. "Well, it's okay I suppose. Just missing you kiddo. Today is Thanksgiving, so I was just thinking that I should give you a call. Christmas will be here before you know it. Are you going to come back and visit?"
It made Bella sad. She didn't know how to break the news that she was pregnant. "Well. I don't know."
"What's wrong Bells? You sound sad."
Of course her father was intuitive. He was a great sheriff. "I'm just…dad, I have a boyfriend now."
"Oh," Charlie said and then paused. "Well just bring him with you. I mean, I'd love to meet him. He's a good guy?"
"Yes, he is. So amazing. You would love him. Just as much as I do," She said, a smile on her face.
Charlie could tell that she was happy from the way she spoke. "You love him huh."
"I do. Dad. We're really serious. I should have called sooner. I'm sorry. I've just been so busy, and time has gotten away from me."
"It's okay. I just worry sometimes. Have you talked to your mom?"
"No. Renee is in her own little world it seems. I sent her a few text but she never responded." She said and then looked up when Jace entered the command center with Simon and Clary behind him. "Oh, dad, I have to go. I promise I'll call you later, and set up some sort of plans to meet. I love you."
"Love you too kiddo. Don't be a stranger." Charlie said.
She hung up and looked up at Jace and smiled. He leaned in and kissed her quickly.
"How's Charlie?" Jace asked, sitting down in the chair.
"He's fine, missing me. I told him I have a boyfriend." She said, smiling, putting a hand on her belly. "He wants me to come visit for Christmas."
Jace nodded. "Well, leaving New York probably isn't a great idea, but I'm sure we can make it work. Magnus could portal us there."
"Magnus can do what?" Magnus asked as he walked in.
Jace looked up at him. "Portal us to Washington to see Bella's dad."
Magnus nodded. "I could do that. When do you want to go?"
Alec was looking at his phone. "I say go tomorrow or something. I know if you wait longer you'll have to explain your pregnancy." He said and looked up at his sister and Jace.
"Alec makes a point," Jace said.
Simon sat down in the other chair and spun around. "Why not just tell him that you're pregnant? Will he be super angry if you are?"
Bella sighed. "I mean. I don't think so? I'm twenty-one."
"He thinks you're nineteen." Alec pointed out.
"Well…" Bella sighed. "I'll just tell him. I don't like keeping secrets from him. I know that he can never know what I am, or that I'm not really his."
Magnus leaned against the table with his hip. "Well, his memories are planted memories Bella. They can be unplanted."
"Like make him forget me?" Bella's brows furrowed together. "I don't want that. He's my dad."
Magnus nodded. "Yes, but he's also in a constant state of danger."
Bella hadn't thought about it. "But…I don't want…" Tears came to her eyes.
"Oh no biscuit, don't cry." Magnus went to her. "I was just tossing out alternatives. Charlie is your dad, that's final. I'll ready a portal whenever you're ready to see him. You only have to say the word."
Bella nodded. "I really miss him. I miss how normal things used to be. That's saying something considering I was surrounded by vampires and wolves." She sighed. Her head was starting to head. "I think I'm just going to take a shower and think about it. Thank you, Magnus."
"Of course." He said and watched Bella get up and walk out.
Alec looked at Jace. "Okay, so we have a new shadowhunter coming in today to join. He's being sent from London. His name is Sebastian Verlac." He said. "You'll greet him and show him around."
Jace nodded. "Will do." He said and looked down at his phone when it dinged. "Ah, Jocelyn is summoning me. I'll be back." He said and then went to Jocelyn's office.
Clary sighed and sat on the table. "Well, the patrol was a bust. Nothing that was worth following up on."
Simon nodded. "You can say that again. I didn't get a chance to hone my senses enough to capture Valentine's scent. Jasper said that he's trying to track it still, but it's like he's disappeared."
Alec sighed heavily. "Well, we just keep trying. Alice's visions are hazy. She hasn't been able to see anything so far. Edward is still imprisoned, and Carlisle is trying to wean him off human blood. But it seems like it's starting to be a lost cause. Carlisle said yesterday that he thinks that Edward might be lost to him forever. I could tell he was upset about it."
Simon nodded. "Well Emmet offered to end him, but Carlisle said he wants to give it some more time. I think he's doing it because of Esme really. She's the mother."
"What do Alice's visions say about his fate?" Clary asked.
"Edward dies." Simon said simply.
"So it's been decided already." Clary pointed out.
Alec shook his head. "I want Carlisle to handle it. Edward belongs to him, and I don't want to overstep that boundary. That's his son."
Jake walked in with Iz. He was shirtless. He stayed like that most of the time. "Hey, I spoke with my alpha, and it seems like there has been some random things starting up on the West coast. Demonic activity."
Alec frowned. "We have an Institute out that way in Portland. I'll get this information to Jocelyn." He said and left the command center.
Jake looked at Simon. "Dude, are you attacking my village right now?" He asked, taking his phone from his pocket.
"I need coins," Simon complained.
Jake rolled his eyes. "Attack Clary's village."
"Hey!" Clary said, taking her phone out. "No way. Simon, don't you dare."
Jocelyn looked up at Alec when he knocked on the door. Jace was sitting in the chair across from her. "What's wrong?" She asked, seeing the look on Alec's face.
"Demon activity on the West coast ma'am." Alec relayed.
"Okay. Contact the Portland Institute. I want to know what's going on." Jocelyn said and looked at Jace. "You want to go to Portland?"
Jace nodded. "I can go to Portland. Jake is from La Push which is an hour outside of Portland. He could guide me around."
"Bella is from Forks," Alec said.
Jace looked up. "Oh shit, that's right. Charlie lives in Forks."
Jocelyn nodded. "Charlie is the sheriff I believe. I have a contact in that area. A shadowhunter, his name is Mike Newton. He'll be able to help. Bella needs to stay here in New York, under the protection of this Institute."
Jace nodded. "Of course. She'll worry about her father's safety."
"Don't tell her." Jocelyn stated simply.
"But…" Jace frowned.
"Ma'am, I don't think that's a good idea. Bella likes things to be transparent. She's been through a lot." Alec said.
Jocelyn nodded. "I know that, but I want her safe, and not stressed out."
Jace sighed. "Stressed and worried isn't good for her Alec, Jocelyn has a point."
Alec thought about it. Of course, Jocelyn was right, he just didn't like lying to her. "Okay. Jace will go to Portland with Jake. Who else do you want me to ship off with them?"
"Take Iz with you Jace, and Simon. Contact Jasper and see if he can assist." She said and looked at some papers in front of her. "Be ready to go in two hours."
Jace and Alec nodded and left Jocelyn's office. Jace went to check on Bella. She just got out of the shower when he walked in. "Hey babe," he said and went to her and kissed her gently.
She smiled, kissing him back. "I'm glad you're back."
Jace nodded and then frowned, grabbing her hands in his and looking at them. "I have to leave in a couple hours. I'll be gone longer."
Bella frowned. "What? Why?"
"I have to go to Portland to the Institute there." He said softly.
"Oh. Well how long are you going to be there?" She asked.
He sighed. "I'm not sure. Jake and Simon are coming with me, as is Jasper, but you are going to be fine. I promise I'll try and make it back fast."
Bella sighed. "Okay. Why do you have to go? Alec can't go?"
"I'm afraid not. I must meet a contact there. Mike Newton." He said.
"Mike Newton is a shadowhunter?" She looked at him with a bewildered look.
"You know him?"
"Yes. I went to high school with him. We went on a few dates. Really carried a torch for me." She said, remembering the geeky Mike Newton and smiled. "He was a great friend. Simon reminds me of Mike sometimes."
Jace made a humph sound. "So, I'm meeting your ex."
"Not an ex. We went on a few dates, I never dated him. I was too wrapped up in…Edward at that time."
He leaned in and kissed her. "Well, I have two hours." He said and smiled, kissing her again.
Her arms went around him as he moved with her to the bed. He pulled her clothes off and hovered over her as he kissed her a few more times, before traveling down her body. His mouth went to her hot center, already wet and ready for him. He flicked his tongue over her clit, and she purred for him. She writhed in the sheets, her orgasm closing in on her as he lapped at her sweet folds. She moaned out his name, her hands tangling in his hair as he pushed her to ecstasy. He removed his pants, pulling his shirt over his head, as he readied himself at her entrance. She was so intoxicating. He entered her gently, moving his hips against hers easy, as she clamped down around him, her juices flowing over him. His mouth sought hers again, and he kissed her, drinking in her moans, as they pushed each other towards their ultimate ending. When he swelled inside her, he groaned, his release so close. She came hard, her essence flowing around him, making him bust open and showering her inside.
He kissed her again deeply before rolling to his side and pulling her into his arms. He held her like that, stroking her back gently, with his one hand, and the other rubbing her belly softly. "I love you," he murmured.
"I love you too," She said, smiling, before falling off to sleep.
He lay with her until he had to get up, having only forty minutes to gather everything he needed.
Jake and Simon were ready to go, with Iz and then Jasper and Alice met at the Institute, waiting to leave. Jocelyn stood in the command, waiting to see them all off. Jace appeared, a duffle hanging from his shoulder. "Okay, listen up. I'm team leader, we're going to get there at the Institute in Portland and check in. We'll contact Newton, and then look at some damage reports. Jake's contact is Sam Uley. He'll be meeting us at the Institute to go over some patrol routines the wolfpack has in place. Jasper, Aly, I need you to make your rounds in Forks. Simon, you'll hang with me and Iz, and Jake, you'll head back with Uley once we report in. After that we'll meet at the Hotel that we've reserved since there is no boarding at the Portland Institute. They are a smaller Institute."
Jocelyn nodded. "I'm sending Clary with you all. Clary needs the hands-on experience. Iz, you'll always have her with you shadowing you. I want daily reports. The mission target is to scan the area for Valentine's presence, and to eliminate all demons you come across. Keep a look out for each other. Jace is in charge. Jasper, you're his second." She said and Iz looked disappointed.
Jasper nodded. "Will do ma'am. I've got some contacts in Alaska that will assist if it's needed. For the time being, it'll be just Aly and I. Em and Carlisle are staying behind to dispose of Edward."
Alec nodded. "Okay. Be careful guys." He said and looked to Iz. "You. Be especially careful."
Iz rolled her eyes. "I'm always careful. "She said and then turned to Clary. "Stay with me at all times. No running off."
Magnus opened a portal, and the group walked through it.
[Portland Institute]
Jace and his group exited the portal outside the Institute. There was a girl waiting for them. "Welcome Team A." She said. Her hair was long, dark, in a braid down to her waist. "I'm Aline. Welcome to Portland."
Jace nodded. "Jace, Jake, Simon, Iz, Clary, Jasper, and Aly." He introduced his group.
Aline nodded. "Three vampires and a wolf?"
"Yes. They're part of my group. Is that a problem?" Jace asked.
Aline shook her head and smiled. "No. Just needed to know for the report. Come inside. Newton is waiting." She said, and lead them inside.
Mike Newton looked at Jasper and Alice. "It's nice to see you two again." He said and hugged Alice when she hugged him. Jasper shook his hand. He looked over at Jake. "Ah, you're the Quileute kid."
Jake nodded. "That's me."
Mike looked at the others. "Mike Newton. So, we've had some demon activity the strongest near Forks. Portland hasn't seen too much activity."
"Has it claimed any lives?" Jace asked.
"A few. A few college kids. We've been trying to keep things under wraps. Sheriff Swan has been trying to find the 'serial killer' that keeps killing off the college kids." Mike explained.
Jace sighed. "Okay, Simon, Iz, you two scout around Portland with Newton. Jasper, Aly and I will take a look in Forks. Jake-"
"Sam is outside." Jake nodded.
Aline nodded and left and appeared a short while later with Sam in tow. "Sam Uley from La Push." She announced.
Sam and Jake clasped hands and hugged. "It's good to see you Jacob."
"Likewise. Sam this is Jace Wayland, Simon Lewis, Izabelle Lightwood, and Clary Fairchild." He introduced. "You know Jazz and Aly."
Sam raised a brow. "Jazz and Aly huh." He said and looked at everyone. "It's nice to meet everyone. I have given Ms. Penhallow a list of the patrols. Jake, you're coming back with me still?"
"Yeah," He looked at Jace. "We good?"
Jace nodded. "Keep me in the loop."
Jake nodded and left with Sam.
"Okay, I'll head to Forks with Jasper and Aly. Let's try and meet back at the hotel in four hours." Jace said, and they all split off.
Newton tossed Jace a set of keys. "Take the hummer to get to Forks, it's a forty minute drive."
Jace took the keys, and he piled into the oversized SUV with Jasper and Alice.
[Forks]
They parked out at the Cullen's old residence so they wouldn't seem to be out of place. Jace took his stele out and covered his runes, so he wouldn't draw attention to himself. "This is Bella's hometown?"
"It is. Bella grew up here for the most part," Alice sang.
"We should check in with Sheriff Swan." Jasper said, pulling his badge out and looping it around his neck. He handed one to Jace.
"What about me?" Alice asked. Jasper slung an arm around her shoulders. "You, my dear, are here as a distraction. Charlie can't help himself around you. He loves you."
Alice smiled. "He does, doesn't he."
Jace frowned. This wasn't how he wanted to meet Bella's dad. "Okay, well this will be hard to explain away later when Bella and I come for Christmas."
Jasper blinked. "Oh, you and Bella are coming back next month?"
"Yeah, Charlie wants to see Bella for the holidays." Jace explained as they walked.
It wasn't a terrible walk. They made it to the station twenty minutes later. "Alice, hang out outside for a few moments. We'll call for you if we need you," Jace said, and she nodded, taking a look around.
Jasper and Jace entered the station. Charlie was in his office when they came in. There was a deputy sitting at the desk. "Sheriff Swan please," Jace said, flashing his badge.
The young deputy looked at Jace and nodded. "Charlie, you have a couple of FBI guys here to see you." He called.
Charlie got up from his desk and walked out of his office. "I'll be damn. Jasper Hale" He said and looked at Jace.
Jasper nodded to Charlie. "Charlie. It's Agent Whitlock. That was my birth name, Jasper Whitlock. I changed it after graduation." He smiled.
Charlie nodded and smiled. "Well you look great. Healthier than the last time I saw you. FBI huh?"
"Yes sir, just wanted to do my part to help society." Jasper said. "This is my partner. Agent Wayland."
Charlie shook Jace's hand. "Nice to meet you. Are you guys here about the college kids?"
"Yes sir," Jace answered.
Charlie sighed. "I don't get it. Portland usually has all the killings. We had some issues with bears a while back, but this is just different. Forensics can't figure it out. I haven't requested FBI yet because it's been three kids. I was trying to get a handle on it, but I see you guys beat me to the punch."
Jasper nodded. "Billy Black mentioned something to Jake, and Jake spoke with Bella about it, and Bella asked Aly and you know how it goes. I figured I would drop in and see if I could help a friend out." He smiled.
Charlie smiled. "Bella always worries. I figured she would find out eventually." He sighed. "Well, I have the case files on my desk," he said and led Jasper and Jace back to his office. He picked them up, handing them to Jasper and Jace.
Jace opened it and looked in at the pictures from the crime scene. He instantly knew what sort of demon was doing this.
"Anything make any sense?" Charlie asked.
Jasper looked at Jace and Jace looked up at Charlie. "We have seen some of this in Brooklyn. It's gang related. Are there any gangs that are known in this area?"
"Well, just the tribal guys, but I talked to Sam Uley about it already. They don't come off the reservation. Portland has some gangs. Would they travel this far south?" Charlie asked.
"It depends on what they were doing here in Forks." Jasper said. "Did you find any drugs, or other paraphernalia?" he asked.
"None," Charlie responded. His phone rang. "Oh, it's Bells. Hold on a moment fellas." He said. "Hey Bells," he said, smiling.
"Hey dad, I wanted to call you back and tell you that I was thinking about seeing you in a couple weeks. "
"Oh really, that's great kiddo."
"Yeah. I have some special news that I want to tell you in person."
Charlie raised a brow and smiled. "Really. Well, I can't wait. Just text me when you get a chance the times. I have to get back to work kiddo, but I love you."
"Love you too dad." She said and hung up.
Charlie smiled and looked at Jasper. "Bella is coming to visit in a couple weeks. I haven't seen her since she shipped off to New York. I'm hoping we can get this figured out before then."
Jace's phone rang. "Hmm. My apologies Sheriff Swan." He said and pulled his phone out of his pocket. It was Bella calling him. He answered quickly. "Hey babe." He said, turning to the side.
"I called my dad. I wanted to visit in a couple weeks. Will you be back by then?"
"Uh, I'm not sure. I'm in the middle of something though right now. Is it okay if I call you when I get back to the hotel?" Jace asked.
"Of course. I'm so sorry. You're really busy."
"No, it's fine. How are you feeling? Did you take your medicine?"
"We're fine, and yes I did. Love you, please be careful."
"Love you too. Talk to you later." Jace said and hung up.
Jasper smirked and looked back at the file.
Charlie smiled. "Wife?"
"Uh, girlfriend. Not my wife…yet." Jace said with a smile.
Charlie noticed that Jace had an accent. "So, what part of Europe are you from?"
"London," Jace said simply.
"Oh wow, what made you come to the States?"
"Work," Jace answered.
"Were you special forces over there or something too?" Charlie asked.
Jace looked confused. Japer cleared his throat. "Yes. MI6. You have to stay fit with our line of work."
Charlie nodded. "Makes sense." He looked down at his phone again, checking the time. "Well, are you boys hungry? Jasper that diner still serves the best food."
Jasper nodded. "Alice is here with us. She had some stuff to do in Portland, and we flew in together. Do you care if she joins us?"
A wide grin spread across Charlie's face. "Alice is here? That's great. Sure, thing Jasper." He said, and then they all headed to the diner. Of course, Alice hugged Charlie.
They ate at the diner, Alice and Jasper faked eating their food.
Charlie kept the conversation going with Jace. He found Jace interesting. "So, how long have you been in New York?"
"Off and on for about twelve years. I spent a lot of time here in the summers, with some family stuff." He answered.
"Ah, you can't be that old. How old are you?"
"Twenty-four." Jace responded, taking a drink of his drink. His phone rang again and he answered. "Wayland."
"Yo, the demonic activity in Portland is next to none. How's Forks?" Simon said quickly.
Jace wiped his mouth with his napkin. "So far nothing. Where are you guys now?"
"Heading back towards the Institute with Newton," Simon paused and then the phone was handed over to Mike. "So, there's nothing this way. We're going to the Institute, to check some stuff on the maps, then do you want us to head that way?"
"No. Newton, that's fine. We'll meet back at the hotel. I have to make a few calls when I get back, and then we'll debrief for the day." Jace said, his gaze meeting Jasper's.
"Fuck." Mike said, and then there was a struggle.
"Newton? What's going on mate?" Jace said. The phone went silent. "Damnit. Jasper we need to leave now."
Charlie frowned. "What's going on?"
Jace looked at Charlie. "We have an agent down. I apologize Sheriff Swan we have to cut dinner short. We'll be back tomorrow in the day to look around the crime scenes."
Jasper stood, but made Alice stay. "Alice, you okay staying with Charlie. I'll meet you back at the hotel."
Alice nodded. "Sure, thing Jazzy." Her visions hadn't come to her since they came to Washington, which worried her. She wasn't sure what was going to happen.
Charlie looked at Jace. "You two be careful. If you need help."
Jasper nodded, smiling. "It's okay, we can handle it."
Jasper and Jace left, rushing into the shadows. Jace uncloaked his runes. He used the speed rune to run at speeds that were nearly as fast as Jasper. They made it to Portland in less time than it would have took to drive.
Jace's phone rang again. "Hello?"
"Hey, we're good. We were ambushed by a few demons." Simon's voice sounded in Jace's ear.
"Okay good. Meet at the hotel." Jace said and hung up. He blew out a breath. "They're good. Let's head to the hotel. Text Aly and tell her to meet us at the hotel when she gets a chance."
Jasper nodded, slipping his phone from his pocket, and sent her a quick text.
At the hotel, everyone gathered. Mike looked a little roughed up, but he was still standing.
"So, the Hummer is back at the Cullen's old house. We'll swing by and grab it in the morning. For now, Jasper and I are going to study the case files that Charlie gave us. We're going to look around the crime scenes tomorrow in the day so we can see better." Jace said.
Iz and Clary were sitting together on one of the beds, Iz was painting her nails. "Well, should we all take a look around Forks?" Iz spoke up.
Jace sighed. "No. I don't want it to be too suspicious. We're operating under the guise of agents from the FBI. Charlie trusts Jasper because he knows Jasper."
Simon spun around in the chair that was by the desk in the room. "So, we go around Portland in the day and take a look at the scene. Demons struck tonight, which means that they're after something in particular. If the demonic activity is heavier in Forks, then we should send our most manpower there."
Jace looked over at Simon. "Well, yes. Jasper and I will work on that. We'll call you all in as backup once we figure out what's going on. The type of demon that is doing this is a Ravener. "
"Ravener?" Clary asked.
"Demon that can take human form. They're not the brightest of the demons, but they can get rather…creative with how they kill people." Iz explained.
"How do you know it's a Ravener?" Simon asked.
Jace nodded, opening the file that Charlie had given him and gave it to Simon. "See the residue left on the body?"
Simon took the file and looked at it, grimacing. "Hmm. Well if you say so. Either way, it's a demon and we need to find it."
"Bad news. Raveners come in pairs." Mike nodded to Jace.
"I know. Which is why it's dangerous to have them hunting around Forks. What I don't get is why they chose Forks?" Jace said, trying to figure that part out.
"It's because Bella's from Forks." Jasper spoke up. "She lived her all her life. Valentine is looking for the Cup."
Jace paused. "You know, you're right Jasper. Valentine has to be here. He's been silent on the East coast. He knew that Bella was his daughter, it's not too much of a stretch to say that he knew where she grew up. Raveners make the perfect demon for Valentine because they're not intelligent enough to have their own mind." He nodded. "Okay, rest up. We rise at five am to get started." His phone dinged and he looked down at it.
[Jake]: Running patrols with the pack. I'm on first patrol. I'll see u in the morning boss.
[Jace]: Good. Be careful. See you in the morning.
Jace looked at the time. "I've got to call Bella. I'll see you all in the morning." He said and left the room to his own room that he was sharing with Jake, who wasn't going to be here tonight anyways. He called Bella. He hoped that she was awake to talk because it had gotten late on him, but also wanted her to rest.
"Hey." Bella's voice sounded light, airy.
"Hey babe. How are you?"
"Good. I just got up from a nap. It's midnight here. I was thinking about taking a nice bath."
"You should," Jace smiled. "I miss you."
"I miss you too," Bella said, a smile evident on her face from the tone of her voice.
Jace wasn't sure if he should tell her exactly what was going on. "Um. I'm in Portland staying at a pretty descent hotel. I've met Mike."
"Oh really? How is dear ol' Mike?" She responded with a chuckle.
"He's alright." He paused a moment. "I love you. Before I say anything, please don't get stressed out or upset."
Bella frowned. "What's wrong? You can tell me. I'm okay Jace. Not breakable."
Jace sighed. "I met your dad earlier."
"You what?"
"Yeah, you called me right when I was talking with him and Jasper." Jace sighed. "He doesn't know what we are, or who I am."
"How in the world Jace?" She didn't sound super upset, but she was just shocked.
"We think Valentine is in Portland, or Forks, or somewhere close by."
Bella was quiet a moment. "How am I supposed to explain to my dad that you're my boyfriend, and we're having a baby if he's already met you."
"I'm not sure. I could just tell him? I mean what's the worse that could happen?" Jace offered.
"He might shoot you."
"I don't think he would shoot me babe. He thinks Jasper and I are FBI. Do you want me to ease into a conversation with him? I could just pretend that I didn't know he was your dad?"
Bella was silent for a few moments. "I'll face time you tomorrow. We'll do it together. Damn it Jace," Bella sighed. "Why didn't you tell me that it was possible that you would cross paths with my dad?"
Jace wasn't sure how to answer that. "Well. I wasn't sure exactly. It just became necessary. We didn't know a lot of the demon activity was in Forks."
"Demons in Forks? Jace, everyone I know, and love is in danger there." She sounded exasperated.
"Don't get upset. I promise to keep them safe. We're going out in the morning to walk the crime scenes. Call me when you wake up. Please get rest babe. I love you."
Bella sighed. "Love you too. Be careful." She said and they hung up.
Jace sighed and undressed, pulling on sleep pants, and plopping down on the bed. He tossed and turn until finally he fell asleep.
