School was almost upon them and for Luz, she couldn't have been happier. She was reading a Hexside brochure to King, who was resting on the couch. "King, listen to this!"
"Hey! Less read, more scratchy!"
"Sorry! Now that Strix and I will be students at Hexside, I wanna learn all about it! I've got a new crush, and her name is education!"
King responded by eating the brochure.
At that moment, Eda came in with Strix. "Hey freeloaders! Guess what today is," she asked.
"Is it your birthday?" asked Luz.
"Is it my birthday?" asked King.
"It's my birthday!" said Hooty.
"It's no one's birthday, you dopes," snapped Strix.
"Actually, it's human treasure day," said Eda, taking the magic door and opening it. Owlbert flew in, carrying a huge sack of trash into the room. Eda closed the door and hopped onto the pile. "Ahh, fresh garbage."
King ran to the pile with glee. "Ooo, gimme gimme gimme!" He pulled out a teddy bear with a pull string. "Yes! Another worthy addition to my army of terror!" He pulled the string and the doll spoke, "I love cuddles and kisses!"
"Truly terrifying," King said with glee.
"Yo, kid. Your trash pile's getting cold," Eda said to Luz. "While mine's getting hot!" She pulled out a coat hanger and put it on her ear. "I have never seen such an extravagant earring."
"You can have my trash...ohh! Did you know Hexside was built on the bones of its rival school? When it literally conquered!" Luz showed an image of a younger Principal Bump planting the Hexside flag on the ruins of what was once Glandis High.
Strix stopped helping Eda with the garbage pile and sat next to Luz. "Really? Mom, did you know that?"
Eda said as she checked herself in a mirror, "Yes I know all these things, I went there. It was the most harrowing period of my life." She admired her new look: a pair of hangers for earrings. "Oh, hello!"
"Can you imagine it! Me, in the halls of Hexside, studying with Willow and Gus and- maybe even Amity!" Suddenly she gasped when she remembered, "Amity! Oh cramity! We're supposed to meet so I can get my Azura book back!" Luz grabbed Strix by the arm and ran out the door, then came back to say, "I love you guys!"
"And I love you! Aaah!" Hooty yelped as she slammed the door close.
Eda scoffed. "Eh, who needs 'em?"
"Yeah!" King reached into the garbage pile and pulled out a second teddy bear. "These bears could be our new Luz and Strix."
King pulled on the first bear's string and it said, "Being without you is just 'unbearable'."
Unamused with the toy's lame pun, King threw it to the ground. "Nyeh! YOU'RE unbearable!"
"I don't see why I have to go with you," Strix said as Luz dragged him to the marketplace, searching for Amity.
"You said you were going to give her a chance," said Luz. "So, here's your chance!"
"I didn't think it would be that soon..."
"Amity, Amity, Amity, gotta find that- oh! There she is." Across the way was Amity. Instead of her school uniform she wore a black dress with a pink gem necklace, purple stockings and black pointed shoes. Hey Amity! Luz is finally here!"
Suddenly, Emira and Edric appeared as if out of nowhere and exclaimed, "Hi Luz and Strix!"
Luz fell backwards with a yelp into Strix's arms. Amity saw this and snapped at her older siblings, "Edric! Emira! Stop bothering them!" "Sorry, guys," she said to Luz and Strix. "They insisted on coming for some reason."
"Because we love you baby sister," said Emira with adoration.
Amity made an annoyed noise and pushed her away. "They've been extra protective and nice towards me to make up for the library incident."
"And we still apologize everyday," said Edric.
Amity pushed him away and took the Good Witch Azura book out of her bag. "In any case, here's your book."
"So, what'd you think?" Luz asked as she took the book back.
"It was...fine."
Luz took out a drawing from the book. "So fine you drew yourself with Malingale, the mysterious soothsayer?" Amity, red in the face, used her magic to destroy the drawing. Luz still wore a smile as she said, "This is great! Maybe we could even start an Azura club at school when we're classmates!"
That last word surprised Amity. "When we're what?"
"SURPRISE! Strix and I are enrolling at Hexside!"
"Oh! Uh, sorry, but to be in my class, you need to take a placement exam and prove that you've mastered two spells. I know you have your light thing, uh, do you know anything else?"
That stunned Luz. "Placement exam? Spells?"
"Luz, I told you this before," said Strix. "You need to learn at least two spells before you enroll into Hexside."
"Quit giving them a hard time, Mittens," said Emira.
"Yeah, of course they knows two spells, right Luz?" asked Edric.
Luz chuckled nervously as she said, "Of course I know two spells!"
"Because if you don't," said Amity. "You'll get put in the Baby Class."
That sent Luz's heartbeat skyrocketing. "You didn't mention that," Luz said through gritted teeth.
"I didn't know," replied Strix.
"Ooo! Brain idea," said Edric.
"What if we all trained together," suggested Emira. "We could all show off what we know!"
"What do you say, Luz?"
Luz stammered then said more clearly, "Uh, actually, I have other training plans in a very far away place that I have to go to right now. Bye!" She took off running, forgetting that she left Strix behind.
Strix glanced back at the Blight siblings before he said, "For the record, I don't want to get roped into whatever book club you and Luz are planning."
Amity chuckled nervously. "Book club, what book club? Hey, can I talk to you, alone?" She glanced at her older siblings as she said that. They turned the other way and put their fingers in their ears. Amity said in a low voice, "Listen, I read about that Mask of yours and I have to warn you, you cannot attend school with it."
"I don't know, I'm very good at hiding it."
"Strix, this is serious! It's an illegal magic artifact! If anyone catches you with it, you'll be expelled for sure!" That made Strix worry a little.
Back at the Owl House, Eda was preparing to make some soup using a cook book titled, "Bending Ingredients To Your Will". She couldn't help but notice how unusually quiet it was. "Wow, a surprisingly peaceful domestic moment. When will it be ruined?"
"EEEEDAAAA!"
"There it is."
Luz and Strix ran into the kitchen with Luz screaming, "Eda, Eda! Eda!" She tripped and landed on her face. She got back up and ran to her mentor. "You have to teach me a new spell right now!"
"Sorry Luz! These vegetables won't cook themselves...yet." Eda soaked the vegetables in a potion that gave them sentience and limbs. "Alright, everybody in the pot!" The vegetables all screamed and ran away. "Why do I always think it's gonna work?"
"But we need to know two spells to get into decent classes at Hexside. We can make light glyphs." Luz cast a light spell, temporarily stunning Eda. "At the end of the day, that's the only spell we know."
"And we only learned that spell by accident," said Strix.
"And whose fault is that?" asked Eda, hands on her hips.
"YOURS, you old crone," Strix snapped.
"Hah! Yep, got me there. And don't call me old."
"Just teach me a spell now," demanded Luz. "Any spell! It can be the darkest evil."
"Well, I have been researching my texts on wild magic, but I'm much too busy right now."
Strix slammed his fist on the countertop and said angrily, "Look, you lazy bum! It's bad enough you have a son who has no natural talent! How do you think everyone is going to react when they learn your son and your apprentice are in the Baby Class?!"
Eda stared. Then she smirked. "Hmm, weaponizing my pride, well played. Well in that case, this looks like a job for magic boot camp."
King suddenly came into the kitchen with the teddy bears. "Did someone say boot camp? I agree to run it. We'll rise at dawn! You'll carry me on your back as I yell hateful things about your performance!"
"Nope. You'll have no part in this," said Eda. "Luz and Strix need to focus, I can't have them go all weird when you do something adorable."
"I AM NOT ADORABLE!" King whined, stamping his left foot.
Luz cooed, "Aww, he stamped his little foot!"
King went "Nyeh!" and stamped his way out of the room, though he had trouble closing the door. "Now, no time to waste," said Eda. "You'll have to follow my teaching exactly. We gotta go somewhere special."
"YES!" cheered Luz.
"A place where magic energy just flows."
"YES!"
"A place like...the Knee!"
"YES!"
Strix gave Luz a look. "Do you even know what that is?"
"I don't care. I'M GONNA LEARN MAGIC!"
Riding on Selwyn's back, Luz, Eda and Strix (garbed in winter clothes) arrived at the Knee, the literal right knee of the giant who made up the Boiling Isles. The Knee was a mountainous region that was covered in ice and snow. "So what's so special about this place, Mom?" Strix asked as they hopped off the dragon.
"The earliest witches came to the Knee to develop their magic, drawn to its natural power."
Luz gasped when she saw the ruin of an old temple, covered in snow. "It's beautiful!"
"Though, it's not without its dangers." Eda pointed to the left. Luz let out a scream when she saw a huge, white furred beast gnawing on a tree. Strix nonchalantly said, "A giant dust bunny?"
"A slitherbeast," Eda said with precision. "Don't worry, if you don't mess with him, he won't mess with you." Eda walked off with Strix. Luz stayed behind blow a raspberry at the slitherbeast. When it growled at her, she ran after her mentor. "Here's where we'll set up shop," Eda said as they walked to the center of the ruins.
Luz danced around the place with glee. "I'll definitely learn my second spell here! Gorgeous views, magic in the air, and best of all, we're completely alone!"
Spoke too soon. Someone cast a fire spell, and Eda tackled her to the ground. "Watch out!"
Luz, Eda and Strix looked to see who it was and Luz gasped when she saw Amity and her siblings. "Sorry...whoever's over there," Amity called out.
Luz felt her cheeks turn red as she hid herself behind a boulder. "Forget teaching me a spell, just make me disappear."
"Well, okay, but I've got a 60/40 record of making you Reappear...oh!" Eda realized what Luz meant when she saw the look of embarrassment. "You meant- ah, never mind."
Evidently, it was too late as Emira and Edric saw them. They called out, "Hey Luz! Strix! Luz it's us!"
Luz inhaled and exhaled. Time to face the music. "Okay, let's do this." She popped out from behind the boulder with Strix. "Hey guys!"
"Who are they," asked Eda.
"Amity and her siblings," said Strix.
"Be cool," hissed Luz. "If they know I haven't mastered two spells, they'll think I belong in the Baby Class!"
"What's that about the Baby Class?" Amity as she approached them.
Eda responded, "Only that it's for babies and Luz and Strix here clearly aren't babies. Nailed it," she said to herself. Strix face palmed.
"Amity," Luz approached her friend only to slip on the ice. She got up and said, "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to train. I'm trying to beat Ed and Em's highest score on the exam." Amity held up a wand with a power meter on it.
"Aw, Mittens," teased Emira. "That's impossible!"
"She still needs to use a training wand to learn new spells," Edric gestured to the wand Amity was holding. "So what are you workin' on," he asked Strix and Luz. "Something powerful?"
"Yup! Powerful spells! We're workin' on one that's SO CRAZY! Eda's a pretty incredible teacher."
Eda returned carrying a basketful of snowballs. "Luz! I should now teach you how to identify different types of snow- by taste! Go on, eat the snow."
Strix and Luz made a disgusted look. Strix said, "Mom, some of those are yellow."
Emira and Edric stared in confusion. "Is this some kind of...special magic?" the former asked.
Amity coughed loudly, "Ahem. I don't think the Owl Lady wants to show us any of her powerful spells."
Luz face palmed. Eda swallowed a whole bunch of snowballs and grabbed the sides of her head, "Brainfreeze! Brainfreeze!"
Emira said, "See you around, human! Good luck with your...uh...training." Edric took a snowball and was about to put it in his mouth when she slapped it out of his hand and dragged him off. "Aw," he said in disappointment.
Strix glared at his mother. "Mom, I know there's a method to your madness, but can't you TRY to take things serious just for once?!"
Eda said angrily, "You need to take me seriously. Go taste snow without my guidance, see where it gets you." Luz and Strix frowned in disappointment. "Oh, don't worry kids, if you listen to me soon you'll be doing stuff like that." Eda gestured to Amity destroying a tree with the training wand. "And it won't be with some wack training wand, it'll be the real deal. But you have to trust me, okay?"
Luz and Strix looked at each other then nodded. "Okay, we trust you," said the former.
"We've covered snow, so now it's off to smelling moss. But the trick is, you really gotta get it in there."
Strix took some moss from the ground, shrugged his shoulders, then snorted it up his nose, much to Luz's disgust. Then he suddenly started hacking and coughing. "It went down my throat," he choked. "I swallowed it!"
Back at the Owl House, King was still fuming on the front porch. "This...is...ludicrous! I once led armies, I can lead a dang boot camp! I have no recruits..." When he looked at the toys in his hands, he had an idea. "...or do I?"
"Yup! It's your fateful pal Hooty reporting for duty! Taking orders all day long!"
King grimaced at the owl door knocker. "Ew, no! You are too desperate!" He went inside then came back with more toys. "Roll call! New Guy the Bear! Aloysius Turtle! Chip the Elephant! Beefy Bob! Francois the Bunny! You're perfect already! As for the rest of you, I'm only saying this once so listen up!" The toys did not move. "Huh, it's no fun if they don't tremble." He heard a noise and looked to see the vegetables Eda brought to life tossing her kitchen utensils into the sea and cheering. King made an interested smirk. "Ohh okay, alright, yep an ideas happening!"
Luz and Strix returned to their campsite, exhausted. "Okay, we've identified the smells of three different rocks, sorted all the twigs from big to small, and found your glove, and your hand."
Strix held up Eda's right hand. She took it back and reattached it to her wrist. "Ah, I was wondering where that thing went."
"So what now," Luz asked a little impatiently. She turned to look at the Blight sisters training with each other. Amity waved to her only to be sunk into snow thanks to Edric. Luz giggled.
Eda noticed this and said, "Hey, I know my lessons seem weird but this is what magic is all about! Making a connection with nature. The earliest witches understood that. Human witches need to understand it too. You wanna learn a second spell?"
"With all my heart."
"Then you and Strix have to learn from the island." Eda led Luz and Strix to a rock and sat them down. There was a nice view of the whole Boiling Isles. "Now look. And think about what the island is trying to tell you." With that, the Owl Lady left her kids to their thoughts.
Strix sat in a meditation pose and inhaled. "Focus," he whispered.
Luz followed his example and inhaled as well. "Okay Luz, look. Look with everything you've got. Focus." Then she started pretending her hands were talking to her. "'Focus? On what? On how to be stuck in the Baby Class?' No! Don't think like that! 'Face it, you'll never get a second spell following Eda's lessons.' SILENCE, HANDS!"
"Luz?" Strix peeked one eye open. "I can't concentrate with you talking to your hand puppets."
Luz shot up from her seat and let out a yell. "But it's true! I'll never learn a spell like this! I'm doomed to be in the Baby Class!"
Suddenly, they heard a noise and looked down to see Amity training when Emira called out, "Amity! Dinner's ready!"
"I caught a bat!"
"Edric, don't eat that," Amity shouted, dropping her spell book and training wand.
This gave Luz an idea. "If I wanna be in the same class as Amity, I'm gonna need to learn magic like Amity. 'Great work, Luz!' Shh! I don't need your validation."
Strix said, "Luz! Don't even think about it! Amity's going to find out and you'll betray Mom's trust!"
"I need to study a new spell, Strix! I don't want to be sent to the Baby Class!"
"What happened to working hard to become a witch, huh, Luzer?!"
Angry, Luz packed a snowball and flung it into his face. "Fine!" she snapped. "You stay and keep licking rocks and sniffing moss and eating yellow snow! I'm going to learn how to be a real witch! Without you!" She headed off for Amity's tent, while Strix brushed the snow off.
Back at the Owl House, King prepared another batch of potion that gave unliving things life and sentience. "Military discipline! Cooking! Ha, I truly am a demon for all seasons!" He poured its contents onto the toys except the bunny. "Just a dash of Eda's secret sauce and I'm the creator of life!" The toys that got splashed glowed for a moment then stood up. "Yes, yes, yes! My little recruits!"
King began a rousing speech to his soldiers, "Welcome to boot camp! You sure need it. Look at you, raggedy, pathetic, chewed on, you got a button hangin' off of your eye. Pathetic! But I'll mold you worms into...slightly...better kinds of worms. Your first mission- give me snacks! Your commander is hungry so pick it up!" The toys marched to the pantry while the teddy bear marched in another direction only to be stopped by King. "Hey, Private Ding Dong, snacks are that-a-way! You better shape up recruit, you're in my boot camp now."
He didn't notice the bear's eyes suddenly glow red.
"Ed, give me the bat."
"No! If we're not gonna eat it, I wanna keep it as a pet!"
"Get back here before that thing bites you!"
While the Blight siblings bickered over the bat, Luz snuck into Amity's tent and swiped her wand and spell book. She walked to the edge of a cliff and opened the book. She was surprised to find another fan art of herself in anime style. On the bottom of the paper was the text, "Don't steal!" Luz was impressed. "Huh, her crosshatching has improved." She turned the page to find a fireball spell. "Aw man, aw man," she said with anticipation. She cast a fireball spell with the wand and watched it fly across the Boiling Isles. "Yes! I did magic! I did magic! Without drawing anything! This thing is the coolest!"
"Hold it right there!" Luz turned to see Eda and Strix, both frowning at her in disappointment. She said, "You told Eda?! Nobody likes a snitch!"
"That's not important," said Eda sternly. "What are you doing with that?"
"I'm doing magic, what would you have me do? Eat more snow? Lick a rock?"
"Okay, so maybe my methods are...unique, but so is your magic. Connecting to the island can help you. That wand can't."
"Well it's already helped me, just watch what I can do!" She cast another fireball spell only for the wand's power meter to reach zero and she lost control of the spell. It flew over a line of trees and blasted something. Suddenly, there was a loud roar and the slitherbeast they encountered earlier jumped out from the trees and roared at them. On the left side of its face was a huge burn mark.
"You've angered the slitherbeast," Eda gasped. "You've angered the slitherbeast!"
"Will it accept a heartfelt apology?" Luz asked sheepishly.
"No," whimpered Strix.
The slitherbeast took one look at the training wand in Luz's hand and knew right away who burned it. It charged at her only to have Eda push her to the ground and be grabbed by the slitherbeast instead.
"Mom!" Strix exclaimed.
Just then, the Blight siblings, attracted by the noise, came to their aid. "Luz! Strix!" Amity cried.
"What did we miss?" asked Edric.
"And what are you doing with my wand?"
Luz only replied by saying, "Uh..." as Amity snatched the spell book and wand from her.
"Mittens, we've got bigger problems," Emira said, gesturing to the slitherbeast. "Aw, he's so cute, can we keep him!"
Edric shrugged his shoulders and said, "It's no bat, but we could try!"
The Blight twins cast a spell that bound the creatures hands to the ground. "You got it! Now finish it off," Eda called out.
"I'm on it!" Amity prepared to cast a fireball spell with the training wand, but nothing happened. "What?" When she saw the wand was completely drained, she glared at Luz. "Did you use this all up?"
"I...I didn't know!"
Emira grunted as she and Edric struggled to keep the slitherbeast down. "Come on, Luz!"
"Do those powerful spells you were talking about," grunted Edric.
"She can't!" shouted Strix. "She and I only know one spell! And that was by accident!"
"Way to rip the bandage off," Luz said through gritted teeth.
Suddenly, the slitherbeast broke free and grabbed the Blight twins. "Edric! Emira!" cried Amity. "No!"
Luz, Strix and Amity could only watch as the monster ran off with Eda and the Blight twins.
Back in the Owl House's living room, King was having the time of his life with his toy army as they fed him snacks. "Yup, keep 'em coming. And don't forget the pretzels this time. Running a boot camp is hard work, but as my second in command, you deserve this." He dumped some potato chips on the bunny doll. The teddy bear tried to reach for them only for King to slap its hand. "Hey, hey! Private New Guy! You're not privy to snacking privileges, back away!" The bear's eyes glowed red, then jumped off the couch. King did not notice the eyes.
He let out a yawn and stretched. "Leading this boot camp has tuckered the little guy out, so Sergeant King signing out." He was about to sleep when he saw the bear looming over him. "Excuse me? Could you maybe turn down those eyeballs?" It was then King realized all the toys' eyes were glowing red. Beefy Bob pulled the bear's string and it said, "Don't you want a hug?" King let out a squeal of fright.
"What do we do," Luz asked with panic.
"I am going after them, you are staying here," said Amity.
"But the beast has Eda!"
"Yeah, and because of you, it also has my brother and sister! Now stay put...you'll only get hurt." She cast a large magic barrier around Luz before turning to Strix. "Come on."
"Wait, you seriously want me to help you?"
Amity sighed. "It's your mother, right? Even though you have no magic, you still have that Mask. As much as I hate to admit it, I can't do it without you."
Strix turned to Luz, who gave him an apologetic look. He frowned and turned away from her. "Okay, Blight. Tell me what to do."
"Amity, Strix, wait," Luz cried out but they had already left. She kicked a rock in frustration. "Stupid island, ugh!" She hopped on one foot when she felt the pain in her foot. Then she sat down on the rock and sighed in disappointment in herself. "You were supposed to teach me magic," she said to no one in particular as it started to snow. "And I'll never learn more than this." She drew a light spell glyph and released it into the sky, before noticing a large light glyph created in the sky in the form of a constellation. "Wait, is that...a light glyph? But what does that mean?"
She got her answer when she took a closer look at the snowflake that landed on her palm. In its center was a glyph resembling a large diamond with a line down the center, sat on another line across the bottom of the circle; across the diamond was a curved line and a smaller diamond at the bottom. Luz understood now. "Oh...it means...magic is a gift from the island...it means..." She drew the glyph into the snow and touched it, creating a small column of ice. "...magic is everywhere!" Luz drew the glyph the size of the area of the trap. "Magic is everywhere!" She stomped on it, creating a huge column of ice that propelled her out of the trap. "Woo!" She landed in the snow and did a little victory dance. "My second spell! I can't wait to show Strix! Thank you snow, thank you island, thank you Eda...Eda! I have to save her."
Back at the Owl House, Hooty was listening to music on his headphones unable to hear King shout, "Hey! How dare you mutiny! Unhand your commander right now!" In response, the toys threw him and his bunny out the window, knocking off Hooty's headphones in the process. "I gave you life, I could take it away!" They threw arrows and knives at him, but he rolled out of the way. He said to the owl door knocker, "Hooty, Hooty, great news, buddy, you can be in the boot camp! First task, destroy the boot camp."
"Hmmmm, no thanks!"
"What?! But you begged to join!"
"Sorry, you said I was desperate, so now I'm playing hard to get."
"GRRRAAAGH! What do you want!"
"I don't know, what are you offering?" King thought it over, then drew a body around Hooty. "Wow, this is incredible! It's so real! You got yourself a deal!" The door slowly opened and with a "Hoot!" Hooty stretched his neck out and began to slash the toys apart with his beak.
"This day shall live in infamy," said King.
Back at the Knee, Luz followed the slitherbeast's tracks to its cave lair where it stuck Eda, Emira and Edric to the wall. "Don't worry, I'll be fine!" said Emira.
Three skeletons fell from the ceiling. "Nope, we're gonna die," said Edric.
"That's right, death is here," said a talking skeleton. Then Luz took off the skull. "Just kidding, Luz is here!"
"Kid, get out of here," said Eda. "I'm just gonna sneak away when the thing starts eating the twins."
Emira and Edric heard that. "Wait, what?"
"Don't worry Eda, I get it now," said Luz. I was so obsessed with learning my second spell, I didn't listen to you. But now I'm gonna save you! Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah."
Eda watched her dance off with confidence. "Well, at least I got to see her misplaced confidence one last time."
Amity and Strix found the Blight twins and Eda. And Luz found them. "Luz?!" exclaimed Amity.
"Hello!"
"How did you get past the barrier?"
"Magic! Literally!"
Strix gaped in amazement. "Show me. Now."
"Later. Now, forget that, because the three of us are gonna have to work together if we want to save everyone. Here's what we're gonna do."
Eda sneezed as the slitherbeast sprinkled her and the twins with spices. "Ugh, I hate garlic."
"Hey! You big idiot! Over here!" The slitherbeast turned to see Luz and Strix making taunting gestures at it. It chased after them, giving Amity the chance to climb up to her siblings and Eda. "Amity," exclaimed Edric with joy.
"Use the fire spell we taught you," said Emira.
"But I can't do it without the wand!"
"Yes you can! Just focus!"
"Okay." Amity concentrated her hardest and cast the spell circle, and produced a small flame.
"Cool, I didn't think you could actually do it," Emira admitted as Amity freed her, Edric and Eda.
They suddenly heard Luz scream. "Luz!" exclaimed Amity.
Luz and Strix ran out of the cave with the slitherbeast chasing after them. They backed up into a tree and the creature lunged at them. Then they smirked. "Gotcha. NOW, STRIX!" Luz and Strix stomped down on the glyph Luz drew in the snow and a column of ice launched the slitherbeast up into the air and onto the ground. Eda and the Blights ran out of the cave just in time to see the action. The beast got back up and lunged at them.
"You want me to teach you kids something cool?" Eda asked.
"Yes," exclaimed the Blights.
"Sleep spell!" Eda cast a spell circle and phased it through the slitherbeast. Its eyes closed and it started snoring.
Strix ran up to Eda and gave her a hug. "I love you, Mama!"
"Now that's my mentor!" said Luz, running up to join Strix, Eda and the Blights. "Did you see, I learned my second spell, I made the connection!"
"I saw, nice work kiddo," Eda complimented her and patted her head.
"Hey, Luz," said Strix. "I'm sorry for not believing in you earlier."
"Nah, I deserved it. I didn't believe in me either. But I do now!"
"You showed some real bravery in there, sis," Emira said to Amity.
"Yeah, nice work kiddo," Edric said, patting Amity's head.
"Stop!" Amity pushed him off her before speaking to Luz and Strix, "So it looks like we'll be in the same class!"
Luz said, very giddy, "Azura Book Club? Azura Book Club!"
"I didn't say I was going to be part of a silly book club," hissed Strix.
Amity whispered, "As long as it's a secret club, okay?"
"It's not a secret," called out the twins. "We're gonna tell everyone!" Amity turned red in the face.
Eda suddenly sneezed loudly. "Alright, your adorable banter is literally making me sick. Let's go home already."
"Can I try it this time?" asked Strix.
"Certainly," said Luz.
Strix drew a large ice spell glyph into the snow and stomped on it, making an ice column that sent him, Luz and Eda flying into the sky. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his whistle and blew it. Selwyn appeared and they all landed on her back.
Down on the ground, the Blight siblings watched in amazement. Emira said, "I think we can go the normal way." Edric and Amity nodded in agreement.
Back at the Owl House, King and Hooty panted before the aftermath of the carnage they caused. Stuffing and bits of fabric were everywhere and here and there were the bits of what was left of Beefy Bob. King gave the owl door knocker and grandiose speech, "Private Hooty, today when the felt flew you showed grit and determination that were instrumental in securing our victory. May I just say, it has been an honor, to be your commander."
"Sir, the honor has been all mine," said Hooty.
King gave him a hug. "Private, our hearts have been touched by fire, and-"
"Ahem!" Eda, Luz and Strix had returned. "What the heck did you two get into?"
King huffed. "Um, excuse me? We're having a moment here!"
Hooty babbled, "You'll never understand what we've been through together! Never! Never!"
"Ugh, moment ruined."
Hooty made a stupid grin as he said, "I will be haunted by my actions forever. Hoot hoot."
