Lilith's Ward Book 1
Disclaimer: I do not own owl house it is copy right of disney
Author's Note: Hey Guys I am glad that I write a lot of this stuff in advance because these longer chapter formats are taking for lack of a better term longer to create and edit. Plus I have decided to edit these chapters on my own. So feel free to tell me how much I suck. Just so we're clear. The plan after this story is complete is as follows. First finish my other owl house fanfic, then right three interlude stories following the ending of this fanfic, Than it's either me righting a followup to my she ra story or if season two of owl house is finished by then I will write season 2 of liliths ward then do a followup to she-ra. After that I plan to take a break from owl house and she ra and doing one of the following three: a my hero academia crossover with the stormlight archives where deku is a squire to kaladin in the my hero world, a epithet erased fanfic following Kurtus a boy who lost his parents and was raised by mera with the epithet of Joy, or a my hero academia overlord crossover with Deku being a more martial arts focused character then his fanfic brother "Momonga". Let me know what you guys are interested in most. Like, Follow, Fave.
Chapter 12: Lost In Language
Mason scratched at his bandages with a vengeance. Even magic bandages itch like crazy, Why? He was laying on the Healer's Coven bed and waited for his final mending. I can't wait for this hospital stay to be over.
Just then, the nurse came through the door carrying an extravagant gift basket, "Here you go deary. Your girlfriend left you a present."
"Pink-skinned girl with three eyes?"
"Yes deary, she seemed so worried. Oh, I miss young love. You know, I once was sweet on my classmate. Now he's a bigwig in the Healer's Coven and I'm just a nurse, the way of the world I guess.
"Don't remember asking." This nurse was very open about her life. I feel kinda bad for her. Mason tore open his gift basket and inside there was a card, six muffins, a picture of Boscha blowing him a kiss. Mason bit into the muffin and found it was filled with chocolate chips.
Mason sat back and thought on how he much he had changed. He used to get his ass kicked and only got a couple good shots in. He had to take self defense classes back when he used to go to school and had to learn what his bullies weaknesses were. Now look at him, taking on Demon Hunters with magic and getting saved by his witch mentor. My life is like a storybook. But does that make me the hero or the villian?
Mason had been thinking a lot lately. He has developed not only connections but relationships with the people he was planning to betray what will Luz think when my true intentions come out? What will Willow think?
Mason swatted himself stop it! You can't think like that. Remember why you're doing this. Eda brought this on herself. As for Luz and Willow all you have to do is explain it to them. Yeah, they'll forgive me… I mean they have too. We're best friends and in Willow's case hopefully more.
"Aren't you popular today deary? Another gift basket, I guess I should expect an Emperor's Coven ward to be a local celebrity." she brought in a basic wicker basket with a mishmash of stuff inside it.
Mason sorted through the basket's contents. He found a small cake with a note that read thanks for saving my bacon again –Luz. He noticed that their was a stuffed bunny that also had a note that read I have sent Mr. Buns to watch over you. Please take care of him and bring him home after you're better –king, he found a tabloid about what witches thought human life was like, and finally he found A bushel of sweet williams. Mason sniffed the flowers and smiled, Yeah, Willow and Luz will forgive me.
Mason laid back down and relaxed. He was about to ask for the nurse to bring him something to drink. But was stopped when she came in.
"You have a visitor deary," she said with a smile on her face.
"Send them in," Mason said, Luz you are such a helicopter parent.
Mason was surprised when instead of the Dominican Republic girl he had been expecting, it was the green-haired witch whose conjuring he had attended, "Oh, hey Amity. What's going on?"
"Nothing much. Just heard that my friend got put in the Healers Coven ward because he was busy helping some Losers get away from the Demon Hunters."
"I feel sorry for that guy. I know what you're like when you're angry." Mason quipped, flashing a grin.
"Yeah, I was actually gonna ask him to go to the library with me."
"I don't think Boscha would like that."
"I meant so you could read to children!"
"Oh! Wait, you read to children?"
"Yes, of course I do."
"See, you don't strike me as the kid friendly type."
"What is that supposed to mean!?" Amity exclaimed.
"I mean you've threatened my friends on multiple occasions and you're kind of a ruthless social climber."
"Do you want to go or not!" her cheeks were visibly red and she glared at Mason.
Woah she is cute when she is pissed. "Okay, I'll go. But only because you said you'd buy me lunch."
"I never said that!" She screamed.
"Jeez I was just kidding. Give me a minute for them to reapply healing magic and we can get out of here"
As if on Que the doctor came and began the process of healing. It took a half hour but Mason was back to being hale and heart. The boy began pounding on his chest with his right hand and let out a sigh of relief, "It's good to be out of that cast."
"Alright let's get going. We've got a long walk ahead of us." Amity walked off and Mason followed her to the library
–––––––––––––––
The library was pretty typical for what Mason expected. He entered along with Amity to the front desk. "Hello sir. We're here to read to the children."
The man stared quizzically at Mason. "Are you Mason Fairweathers?"
Mason froze up and looked at the man with fear, "Uh, yeah. Whose asking?"
"Boscha's father," He replied glaring at the boy.
"Oh, ooh fuck," Mason replied.
"I'm watching you Mr. Emperor's Coven Ward. You better not break my daughters heart or I'll tear you asunder."
"Noted." Mason walked away nervously.
Amity lead Mason toward the kid's room and grabbed a book from the shelf and sat down. "Looks like they're not here yet. Why don't you grab a book to entertain yourself while I read through this one, I want to get the voices down."
"Sure thing." Mason walked away and started looking at the bookshelves. His detection magic went crazy alerting him to someone watching him. "Alright you can come out. I don't much care for spies, so make it easy on yourself and stop hiding."
A collective groan came out of the corner of the shelf
"You're no fun," a female voice called out.
"Yeah, you'd think he'd need a good laugh after getting his butt kicked by Demon Hunters," a male voice replied.
"Alright invisibility spell, who are you?"
The cloaked form of two witches showed themselves after dismissing their invisibility spell and they looked oddly familiar. One of them had long green hair in a braid and the other had his hair up in the bun. They looked like… Amity!
"You're Amity's siblings."
"What was your first clue?" the female asked showing a cute grin.
"Was it our green hair or our green hair or our winning personality or maybe it was our green hair?" the male said showing the same grin.
"No one likes a smart ass, let alone a pair of them."
"That's where you're wrong," The female began.
"We like smart asses and we love it when they come in pairs. Like us," the male continued.
"Well let's get introductions out of the way I'm Mason."
"Oh we already know who you are. After you left Mitten's sleepover we heard Boscha swooning over you and wondering if you were okay," the female teased.
"Is it true that you plan on proposing and will have a hundred babies with her?" The male asked with genuine curiosity.
"What!? No! I never agreed to that." Mason exclaimed, cheeks red.
"Ah, looks like we got a shy one. Are we sure that he and Mittens wouldn't be a better fit?" the male asked, chuckling into his hand.
"I don't know, maybe she and Boscha can share?" the female joked.
"Hey is that you Mason!?" Mason heard Luz's voice.
Oh my god I'm saved from tweedle dee and dum by a little Dominican Republic angel. Thank you Luz. He thought. Mason waved Luz over and she smiled at him.
"Hey Mason who are your friends?" she asked looking at Amity's siblings.
"Not my friends, but these are i guess Amity's brother and sister. I'm sorry I didn't catch your names."
"Emira," says the boy
"Edric," says the girl.
"What unique names," Mason replied.
They both began laughing.
"You actually bought that? Idiot, I'm Edric," the boy howled.
"Yeah, how gullible are you?" Emira added.
"So you guys are just internet trolls personified?" Mason asked, slightly annoyed.
"I don't know what an internet is, but I am offended by being called a troll." Edric sad, feigning tears.
"Yeah, didn't your mommy teach you to not call pretty girl's names?" Emira asked, covering her eyes with her hands to feign hurt feelings.
"Yeah she did." Mason said, looking down disappointed before snapping his head up and adding "But I don't see any pretty girls here."
"Hey!" Luz called.
"Except you Luz."
The twins looked at Mason shocked before laughing "We like you," they said in unison.
"Uh, thanks." Mason stepped back and grabbing for Luz's hand.
"Hey Mason! It's you're turn!" Amity called from the room.
Mason looked around frantically and Than back at Luz, "Can I bum your Azura book one, please?"
"Only if you promise to sing the Azura theme song with me when we get back to the Owl House."
"Fine."
Luz dug through her bag and pulled out one of the books, "Thanks Mason and here you go."
"Okay see you in a few, love you sissy." Mason yelled waving to Luz before smacking himself in the head. Sissy really. You are playing fast and loose with her emotions, Mason.
Mason walked to the center of the room to see a bunch of children sitting around and looking at him.
"Alright kids, I want you to give Mr. Fairweathers your full attention. He's an Emperor's Coven Ward," Amity said and the children looked at Mason with starlight in their eyes.
Mason was sweating bullets as he tugged at his shirt and looked at all the silly children. "Okay let's get started. Once upon a time there lived a farm girl named Az who was full of life and joy. She was the apple of her mother's eye and though she never knew her father she prayed that she would one day find him. One day, a great witch found the girl and took her under her wing…" Mason continued reading for an hour until he reached the end of the book.
"And thus having rebuked the vile offer of Hecate and her foul apprentice the weaver of lies Malingale Az held aloft her mighty staff and yelled that she would be a beacon of justice and peace taking the name of the famed savior of magic world Azura… the end."
"But what about Az's father?" one kid asked.
"Yeah and why is Malingale working for Hecate, when she was the one who killed his dad?" a girl child said raising a good point.
"And I think Az should try to bring Malingale to the forces of good because I don't want him to be evil." The small child with a Langolier head said in a deep gravelly voice.
"Those answers will have to wait for another time. I'm sure if you can find the other four books in the series you can have your parents read them to you."
"Will you read to us again?" the girl asked.
"Yeah please, we want to hear more about Az's adventures," a little boy said.
"We love how you do the voices. Please promise to come back," the deep voice kid asked.
"Well I don't know? Maybe if you treat Ms. Amity nicely I'll come back as a treat. Do you promise to do what she says?"
"We promise!" the kids said in unity.
The children left giving Amity and Mason good-bye hugs.
Amity looks at Mason with smile "You did wonderfully. You're really good with children."
"I guess I never really grew out of being a child." Mason rubbed the back of his neck with pride.
"Yeah, hey would you like to see something special?" Amity asked sticking out her hand to Mason.
"Uh, Sure." Mason took her hand and was lead throughout the library to the romance section as Amity pulls a book that reveals a secret room. "Wow, are you gonna kill me?"
Amity giggled "Maybe," she jabbed
Mason followed her inside and saw that their were many different book shelves. There was a desk at the end with four books on it, an ink quill and ink bottle, plus what looked like a book with a lock on it.
"Mason over here." Amity called leading him to her desk.
Mason followed and recognized the books as the Good Witch Azura. "Wow they have these here?" Mason handled them, "Wait four? You do know that there are five right?"
"Yeah, but I can't find it in any of the book dealers I go to." She rubbed her shoulder, ashamed.
"You know Luz has it, right? I think she'd let you borrow it if you asked."
"You mean the other human? What is she to you anyway?"
"Honestly?" Mason said pausing for thought "She's family, the only thing in this whole world I'd die for."
"Is she your sister?"
"Not in the traditional sense. But, I don't love her any less." Mason reached out his hand "You know when I first saw you I thought "What an uptight bitch.""
"Gee thanks, I would normally slap the fire from you, that is… if I didn't sense a but coming."
"But, you've grown. You're a better person Than I ever thought you'd be. You're better Than even…" Mason was about to say me but shut himself up. You're revealing too much. Stop it!
"Mason, can I tell you a secret?" Amity was blushing and her face was getting red.
"Sure Amity, you can tell me anything."
"I'm Confused, about you know…" she leaned in closer and whispered in Mason's ear "… Luz"
Mason's eyes popped open Oh my god, she has a crush on Luz. "I see."
"You see what?"
"Oh it's just you're confused because you want to be… friends, with someone you initially thought was beneath you. Trust me I think I know exactly what you're going through."
"Really? You like someone enough that it confuses you. Who?"
Mason whispers in her ear "Willow."
"Really? It's just that you know we used to be friends."
"Yeah she told me but did not elaborate. What happened?"
"I-i was forced to push her out of my life."
"Forced? By who?" Mason was confused because Amity now wouldn't meet his eye and that made him realize that this was really hard for her "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."
"Please don't tell Willow. I don't know what they'd do to her if she tried to rekindle our friendship." Amity begged and held Mason's shoulders.
Mason held her hand and wrapped Amity in a hug, "Willow will never know."
Amity began to tear up, "Thank you."
"Now on to the topic of Luz. As much as I'd like you to be her… friend, You have to make that decision on your own."
Amity looks down contemplatively and is silent for a few moments. She looks at Mason and smiles "Thank you." Amity leads Mason out of her room and when they leave he gives her a hug.
"Just remember whatever you decide… stick with it. I don't want you playing with Luz's emotions, okay." Mason shot dagger at her and made sure his tone was serious.
"I'll remember that." Amity replied, shaken.
Mason walks away smiling I think there may be hope for her just yet.
"Mason!" Luz called from behind Mason "What did you and her talk about?"
"Oh nothing much."
"Did you kiss her?" Luz asked slyly.
"What!? No!? Luz it's not like that."
Luz eyed her friend up and down "Uh huh, then what did you guys talk about? C'mon you can tell me if You and Amity made out."
"Luz, look I am definitely not Amity's type and she was asking for tips on how to do the spell razor, that's all."
"You're not gonna teach it to her, right? At least, not until you teach me?"
"Of course not, she tried to pry it from me, but I fought her at every turn."
"That's my brother. Even though I don't believe you, Mr. Casanova." She punched Mason in the arm and asked "Want to help me with a prank?"
Mason eyed Luz skeptically "A prank? You? Who are you and what have you done with Luz?"
"C'mon Mason, you know I can be mischievous when I wanna be."
"Trust me I know."
"And that's why I'm asking for your help, pwetty pwease." she whipped out the puppy dog eyes.
"I'm gonna have to stop falling for your cuteness," Mason chuckled.
Luz smiled back "Literally impossible. See you at midnight," she said before walking off.
"Okay… wait, midnight!?" that meant he had to go to Kikimora and tell her about his plan and hope she signed off on it. Mason sighed in agitation as he had a long talk ahead of him.
––––––––––––––––
Mason let the shadows hide him from anyone who would be watching him. He had a cloak that made him blend into the darkness given to him by The Emperor's Coven at Kikimora's order.
Mason looked at Luz doing a bunch of weird poses he chuckled at how cute she could be sometimes. "Hey, what'cha doing!?" Mason exclaimed from the shadow, he watched as Luz jumped in surprise and fall straight on her face.
"Mason? Where are you?" the human girl looked around but did not see her friend.
Mason walked out of the shadows and dismissed the cloak's effects. He looked at Luz with a grin and said, "How do I look?" Mason had been dressed in black robes along with his cloak and cowl.
Luz's eyes grew and she let out a cute shrill as she looked him over. "Mason. You look amazing where did you get the cloak and cape."
"Well I appropriated it from my master's quarters. they won't miss them." Mason lied, he had gotten better at it, considering how close he had become to Luz.
Luz giggled "You're such a bad boy," she teased digging his arm.
The two laughed together.
Mason's ears perked up and he silenced Luz with his hand.
"What is it?"
Mason shushed her, "We're not alone."
Just then a pair of figures in a cloaks jumped between Mason and Luz.
"Luz get outt–" Mason was stopped by being wrapped in a hug by one of the figures.
"Oh we are going to have so much fun Mason. Normally someone wouldn't be able to hear through a silence spell but you did it easily. You are such a great spell caster." the hooded figure said revealing it was Emira who kissed Mason on cheek.
Annoyed Mason pushed her away. "What are you two doing here?"
"Who do you think planned this prank?" Emira said cocking her head toward Edric.
"Oh, I should've figured Luz couldn't think this up herself." Mason said, smiling.
"What is that supposed to mean!?" Luz exclaimed.
"It means you're too pure to break the law."
"Oh," Luz blushed before doing a shy little pose "Aw, thanks Mason."
"Alright love birds let's get to the prank." Edric called earning an elbow to the gut from Emira.
"Now Edric you've got to let young love flourish." She added.
"You're right Emira, let's leave the two turtle doves to do a little kissing session." Edric then proceed to make kissing noises.
They began laughing making Luz and Mason go red.
"It's not like that!" Mason exclaimed.
"Yeah, Mason is like my big brother, not my boyfriend," Luz added.
The twins laughed and slapped their knees.
"Just having a laugh at your expense," Edric said.
Emira reached into her bag and pulled out a scroll with a key written on it, "Let's go in inside. The Wailing Star is almost upon us."
As the group went to the door, Mason leaned into Luz.
"What does the wailing star have to do with this."
"It's supposed to unlock magical ability and I really hope it does." Luz added.
Mason dabbed her on the arm "Well if it does, I want to duel you. Let's see how tough you are when I'm not holding back."
Luz punched him back, "Yeah, don't let your pride take too big a hit when I kick your butt."
They used the scroll to open the door and entered followed by the two humans.
The library was creepy at night, the dark bookshelves looming over the gathered children.
"Wow," Edric said, looking around.
Emira looked at her wrist and summoned a small sundial looking at it quizzically, "The Wailing Star should be here right about…"
Just then out of the stain-glass window over the libraries entrance a light bathed the dark halls of the building. The sound of a whimpering kid could be heard and the shadow of a falling star outlined on the carpet in front of the teens.
"… now," Edric said.
Luz ran to be bathed in the light and after it dissipated she looked down.
"Nothing happened did it?" Mason asked, worried for his friends.
"No." Luz said saddened, "I guess Eda was right, there are no short cuts."
Mason placed his hand on her shoulder, "You'll get there Luz. I promise."
"I know, I just hate that it's taking so long."
"Hey, you know what we can do to cheer you guys up?" Emira said, smirking.
"What?" Mason and Luz said in unison.
"Writing pictures in these books."
"Uh, I don't know." Luz said.
"Yeah, we're not doing th–" Mason was saying before he noticed the books glowing in pale blue light
"Hey check it," Edric had a book and opened it to reveal an ax-wielding warrior look around and start swinging at Edric who closed the book.
"So the books were brought to life." Mason smiled "This is gonna be fun."
The group cheered and began going to the many different shelves. Opening book after book finding fun things. Edric opened a fashion magazine and was dressed like a Shakespearean inspired fashion statement, they found four books about the history of the snowball and used them to fight with each other, then something bad happened.
Luz had opened the children's book about a lonely book maker and when he came out. Both Edric and Emira who were tampering with books came up and wanted Luz to do the same. When she was reluctant they tried to peer pressure her.
"Hey, knock it off. She doesn't want to do it." Mason knew people like these Blight twins and he was tired of dealing with them.
"Ah, come off it Mason. We're just trying to have a little fun," Edric Said, already snatching the book from Luz. He threw the book to Emira who snatched it.
"Yeah, who cares about some book," Emira said drawing big eyebrows and a growl on the creature. "See, nothing happened." she threw the book over her shoulder.
"Whatever." Mason walked up to Luz and placed his hand on her shoulder "You okay Luz?"
"Yeah, let's just get out of here. I'm very tired," she began to walk toward Edric and Emira grabbing their collar.
"Hey Luz what's up." Edric asked, smiling.
"I'm gonna head out." Luz said, holding her arm.
"But, you haven't even seen the secret room that we came here for." Emira replied.
"Secret room?" Luz asked.
"Secret room?" Mason asked.
"Yeah, it's all the rage. But, if you don't want to see it," Edric said, already walking away.
"No, I wanna see it," Luz called.
The twins stopped and turned around, "Alright then come on."
The group went to the romance section.
Emira grabbed a book from the shelf and it popped open.
"Wait a minute, this is Amity's secret room," Mason said.
"Yep, now come on, We got work to do," Edric replied.
"Why do you need to be here?" Mason asked.
"Well Mittens has been tattling a lot lately," Edric began.
"So we've decided to grab her diary and take a picture of each of it's pages," Emira continued smirked.
"Then we're gonna post them on penstagram."
"What!?" Mason and Luz said in unison.
"Okay no, we're not gonna do that. Let's go Luz." Mason said grabbing Luz's hand.
"Yeah, I thought you guys were supposed to be her siblings." Luz scolded, she was really angry.
As Luz and Mason walked out of the room they were stopped by Amity who stood in the doorway glaring.
"Mason what are you doing here?"
"Amity your siblings are trying to reveal your diary. I was just going to tell you." Mason said.
Amity stamped her foot and her face was flush "I bet you were! I thought you were my friend." Amity ran off crying.
"Amity, Wait!" Mason and Luz said in unison, running after her.
Mason had the lead and Luz followed behind him "Amity I'm sorry. I didn't know."
Amity's screams were heard in the library.
"Amity!" the two humans said, running towards the source.
It was there that they saw it a creature that looked like a pug mixed with a chihuahua that loomed twelve feet over the humans.
"My loneliness shall meet it's end. For I have found three new friends." The creature said as He began bounding Amity in a book. Each needle thrust made her part of the pages.
"Amity." Luz charged and was immediately grabbed by the creature who placed her in the book.
Mason without thinking threw a spell razor at the creatures hand. It cut the beast but it's wound healed instantaneously.
"You hurt me friend, why must we fight. Wouldn't you rather we play throughout the night," it said making a grab for Mason.
Mason ran and said to creature over his shoulder, "Come on, get some!" he had to lead him away. "Luz, Amity, run!"
The two girl took his cue and kicked away from the creature and ran away with the book still attached.
Mason ran until he was cornered.
"No where to hide, no where to run. Now you've no choice but to have fun." The creature made a grab for Mason. He was shaking until he heard Luz call out.
"Hey Otaban I have come to fix my mistake. For I am Luzura warrior of peace." Luz called with her body covered in an Azura costume.
Amity was behind her and used a spell circle to summon an abomination which charged at the creature and held it.
Luz used the magic of Luzura to fly and climb on the creature. She reached with her pencil and erased the adjustments to the book on it's chest. The creature instantly shrank to a cuter version of itself and looked up at Luz.
"Friend," It said.
Luz closed the book and smiled. "Thank you both for helping me." she then looked at Amity "I'm sorry for going into your secret room."
Amity blushed and looked down, "Just don't let it happen again."
"Amity, I'm also sorry. I should've told you," Mason said twiddling his thumb.
"It's okay Mason I forgive you." Amity was instantly wrapped in a hug by her siblings.
"Group hug." They both said.
"Emira? Edric? I'm not forgiving you. Now let go."
"Not until Mason and Luz join in."
"What, that is ridiculous they would nev–" Amity was surprised when Luz grabbed her in a hug causing her whole face to go red.
"Mason…" Luz began "… get in here." She said.
"Ah what the hell." Mason ran in and hugged the group. They let the whole affair be forgotten. "Before I let go… let's never speak of this again."
"Agreed" they all said in unison.
