Sanka had to admit that one good thing came out of having her tonsils removed: she got to eat as much ice cream as she wanted. Right now, as she sat in the hospital bed, she was enjoying a pumpkin spice, vanilla, and cookie crumble ice cream sundae with orange and chocolate sprinkles and some whipped cream...and of course, the cherry on top. At her bedside were some paper cranes stacked up into a pyramid, some flowers, and several cards from her classmates, her teacher, and her relatives. Even Tsukihime sent her a card with the words "Get well soon, kiddo!".
As Sanka ate her ice cream, a chuckle rumbled in Inuyasha's throat as he gently wiped her mouth a napkin.
"You're so messy, honey," he said.
"Yeah," Sanka replied with a bit of a hoarse voice, "but you still love me."
"Yeah, I do," Inuyasha replied as he rubbed his nose up against his daughter's, causing her to giggle. "Lemme have a bite of that."
Sanka smiled as she happily gave her father a bite of her ice cream, but he was careful not to put his mouth around the spoon. He just didn't want to take chances and make his little girl sick all over again.
"Sanka?"
Sanka gasped quietly as she looked up to see her mother, brothers, and baby sisters.
"Mommy!" Sanka exclaimed, or at least tried to with her throat still being a little sore. "Ichi! Yama! Izzy! Usagi!"
"Hi, sweetie!" Kagome said as she dropped a kiss on her daughter's forehead. "How are you feeling?"
"I can't talk very much," Sanka said, "but the doctor says that's okay...right, Mommy?"
"That's right," Kagome replied. "Your voice is gonna be a bit hoarse for a few days, but you'll feel better after a while."
Sanka smiled as she kept eating her ice cream sundae, to her brother's envy.
"Lucky," Yamako pouted as his ears pinned back. "I wanna get my tonsils taken out, next!"
"Oh, sure," Inuyasha quipped. "I bet you'd like to wake up in pain and feverish, like your sister did."
"But the ice cream makes it worth it!" Yamako argued, causing everyone to laugh.
"Oh, by the way," Ichiro said as he reached into a bag. "We got you this on the way here. Figured it might cheer you up a bit."
That's when he pulled out a plush black cat with yellow eyes, an orange witch's hat, and a purple cape, which caused Sanka to gasp in delight.
"A kitty cat!" she exclaimed as best as her voice would allow.
"A witch's kitty cat," Ichiro pointed as he handed his sister the stuffed toy, which she instantly cuddled.
"I love it!" Sanka said, happily. "Thank you, everyone!"
"Well, someone sounds like they're having fun in here!" came the voice of the doctor as she walked in.
"Look what I got!" Sanka said as she held up her new toy, causing the doctor to gasp in playful fear.
"Oh, dear! A black cat!" she cried, causing the family to laugh with her before she grabbed her little flashlight. "Okay, Sanka, I just need to look at your throat." She flashed the light into Sanka's mouth and got a good look inside. "Hmm...well, I'd say your throat is healing nicely after the surgery." She then put on her stethoscope and place the bell over Sanka's chest. "Okay, take a deep breath in for me, sweetie."
Sanka soon inhaled and held it in for about 2 seconds before the doctor told her to let it out, then repeated the process about five more times.
"Your vitals sound good," said the doctor. "I'd say you're clear to go home today, Sanka. I just have to get some paperwork filled out and you'll be on your way home. Sound good?"
"Thank you, doctor!" Sanka said.
"She'll still have to be on bed rest for a few more days," the doctor advised, "but as long as she continues eating soft food and keeps drinking plenty of fluids, she should be all better by the following week."
"Thank you very much, doctor," Inuyasha replied.
"Yes, thank you so much," Kagome added while bowing her head in gratitude.
Soon, after getting everything filled in and getting her dressed in her regular clothes, Sanka was finally cleared to go home, and the whole trip back, she was happily hugging her new plush black cat.
I might have rushed this one, a bit, but I'm still happy with it. ^^
