The rest of the Doctor's trip went rather smoothly - except obtaining her wand. That was a very interesting encounter! The Doctor had recognised the wand shop before she had even seen the sign - it was crawling in artron energy. The Carrionites must have infused artron energy into the wood used for wands because otherwise, they would combust whenever used.
During all the Doctor's regenerations in Idris, she had always caused a fire because of all the artron energy she was emitting. Unless the wood was already used to artron energy, she would expect it to implode - or at the very least make some huge fire works.
They were going to go in one by one so she volunteered to go first. The Carrionite at the counter seemed to recognise her - somewhat - "Gallifreyan" he muttered.
"Carrionite" she countered. He smiled mysteriously.
"I cannot see your name" he said curiously.
"Some things are not meant to be seen" she replied. He nodded his head in concession "Title then" he stated.
"The Doctor". While the Carrionite showed no obvious recognition, the Doctor got the idea that he knew exactly who she was. "Alias Ms Hermione Granger".
"Of course". he responded. "We must find you a foci."
"Pardon?"
"My dear gi-woman, you and I both know that no wood will be able to handle your magic."
"Must I use something? Can I not just pretend to use a wand?"
"Then I cannot sell you one of my wands. Perhaps the one I try to give you will have another partner."
Debating with herself, the Doctor finally pulled out her sonic. She finally understood why Idris had given her such a peculiar one. "Can you fashion this to look like a wand?" she asked reluctantly. "I will pay you the standard rate for a wand."
"A challenge!" Ollivander declared. "I accept. I shall only have to make a few adjustments."
10 minutes later, Ollivander came back from the back room with her transformed sonic. He had managed to make it look more like wood painted metal than metal fashioned to look like wood. He had left it in its crescent shape but unlike the other wands she had seen, it didn't have any decorative runes or inscriptions.
The Carrionite had said nothing, simply offered her a piece of parchment and the Doctor understood. She debated about what she should write and in the end decided to write 'The Timeless Child' in circular Old High Gallifreyan. It was time she accepted who she was. On second thought, she added 'The Doctor' underneath. The Carrionite did not even look at her - he simply took her design and used his artron energy to transmit it onto the paper.
"My thanks, Carrionite." she said and handed over 7 galleons.
"My pleasure, Oncoming Storm" Oh. He knew who she was alright. He had called her Gallifreyan earlier so he had clearly recognised her from 'The Doctor'.
She really needed to research the Carrionite community when she returned to Idris - shouldn't be too long now.
End of 1.
Basically an AN:
1. Chameleon Arch - I know in Doctor Who that the Doctor looks the same but I needed the Doctor to be school age so... The Chameleon Arch was updated a bit by the Doctor so they wouldn't be recognised on sight. Currently the Doctor is using a perception filter to maintain the image of Hermione Granger.
2. OOC - The Doctor is being a bit OOC but she has lived as Hermione Granger for EIGHT YEARS and that makes a bit of impact. In terms of River Song, I liked her character but I didn't think the Doctor could truly love her because they are an old, guarded alien who has lost nearly everything. On that vein, I think the Doctor is a lot less naive than people sometimes think. They may be a bit oblivious but they are not stupid.
3. Carrionite - I'm not going to give you everything now but the basic principle is Carrionites and the Wizarding world are related (at least the Doctor seems to think so).
4. Goblins - again I'm not going to give you everything now.
Come back soon for Part 2. - in which the Doctor finally gets to Hogwarts
