It had been ten years since Beverly's diagnosis and she had hardly any symptoms. She even tossed the cane because she hadn't had to use it since she was first diagnosed. Beverly walked into the living room where her husband sat grading papers.

"Alfred, can I use your laptop real quick? Mine is acting up," Beverly asked.

"Sure," Alfred was grading papers.

Beverly took his laptop to her office and sat down to send the email she had been trying to send for over an hour. They had the same email service, so she just had to sign her husband out. Beverly went to log out but found something. She found an email thread from a woman who wasn't a colleague. Beverly clicked on the email thread and found dozens of exchanged emails.

"Thank you for always being there for me and giving me a shoulder to cry on~Alfred"

"You don't have to thank me, but I really wish you would take your life back. You deserve to be happy~Corinne"

"I just don't know what to do. It's my fault that she's like this, and I promised her I would always be there for her since her diagnosis."

"Being there for her doesn't necessarily mean staying in a marriage you aren't happy in. You tried to stop her from doing something stupid and didn't think she would change the way she behaved towards you. You thought it was more important, that the children have their mother around in any capacity possible."

"You are a wonderful girl and that's why I love you."

"I love you too."

Beverly felt her heart breaking into a million pieces.

"Do you still need my laptop?" Alfred had walked into his wife's office. She didn't answer, "Beverly," he walked towards her and Beverly turned the laptop around.

"You don't have anything to say?" she said softly. Alfred could tell by her face and voice that she was hurt.

"What do you want me to say?"

"How long?"

"What?"

"How long have you been sleeping with the waitress from the university cafeteria?!"

Alfred stared at his wife, "three years," he answered softly.

Beverly's eyes became wide, "how could you do this to me?"

"Are you serious right now?! Let's be honest, you haven't paid one bit of attention to me in years. Do you even remember the last time you showed me the slightest bit of affection?" Beverly was quiet, "didn't think so. You are cold and emasculating. You are not the woman I married and yes, I do take some responsibility here. I told you to change how you looked at the children because I loved you and didn't want you to kill yourself."

"Loved?"

Alfred stood there silent for a moment, "I don't love you anymore, and I haven't for the longest time."

"I'm supposed to visit Leonard in a few days. I want you and your things to be gone when I get back." Beverly started to storm off.

"This house is in my name too."

Beverly stopped and turned, "oh yeah? Do you remember the last time you cleaned it?" Alfred just stared at her, "yeah, I didn't think so," with that Beverly turned and left. She quickly made her way to the laundry room and locked the door. She turned the washer on and slid to the floor as she sobbed.

Alfred broke the news to his parents a few days later.

"You did what?!" Marcy yelled.

"Look, it was stupid, I know."

"You're damn right it was stupid. I told you to find a way to communicate with her and not hurt her."

"She doesn't communicate anymore!"

"Then you should have asked for a divorce and not cheated on your wife," Ed yelled and he rarely yelled.

"Look, you're our son and we will always love you, but we are disappointed with your behavior," Marcy said.

"I know," Alfred sighed, "I am too."

After kissing Sheldon, Beverly left the apartment thinking about the man she really wanted to kiss. She took a taxi back to her hotel. Once she was in her room, she went over to the bed and cried herself to sleep. Beverly remembered what her mother used to say to her. That she was not attractive enough to find a man to love her. That her laugh was too obnoxious. Things that Alfred disagreed with on their first date. She has no idea how she got so lost or how she could find her way back to happiness. The only man she has ever loved didn't love her anymore, but she's still in love with him.
