Hermione's P.O.V
After my run in with Pansy I'd been actively avoiding Draco. I didn't know whether he'd heard about the duel but I was too embarrassed and confused to have a conversation about it with him.
Sirius met us in Hogsmeade disguised as Padfoot and we ended up spending the afternoon with him in a horrible little cave where he had been hiding and living off rats. We didn't have much time to do anything else and I was pleased not to bump into Malfoy at any point.
The next day we went to the kitchen so Harry could give Dobby some socks as a thankyou for helping him with the gillyweed at the second task. Remembering the task sent a little shiver down my spine, and it made me reflect on the emptiness I felt when it was Krum who attended to me afterwards, not Draco.
Winky the house elf was drunk. I felt so sorry for her, and I assured her that her concerns and feelings were important and that I would be there for her whenever I could. I adjusted my S.P.E.W badge on my jumper and made a mental note to start a picket in the courtyard at some point soon.
Eventually we left, loaded with food for Sirius, and Harry and Ron went off to the common room. I wanted some fresh air so I made my way out into the courtyard. I'd barely sat down when Draco appeared from thin air (if it wasn't impossible within Hogwarts ground I could have sworn he'd apparated), and I almost fell into the fountain. We sat awkwardly for a few moments before we both went to speak at the same time. He insisted on going first.
We both learned that the other wasn't attached romantically to anyone else. This wasn't something I'd actually discussed with Viktor yet, but he was about to head back to Bulgaria, and he was a minor celebrity. We had no business being together in the first place.
Before I left, Draco asked to meet me in the Astronomy tower that night at 8 o'clock. I felt sick with excitement but I tried to play it cool.
