Prologue
My name is Michelangelo. My brothers, sensei and my other friends are in the Seafoam Islands Cave. And boy is it freezing! See that large bird over there? That's Articuno, the second Legendary Bird Pokémon of Kanto. We're supposed to be tested by it. But unfortunately, two Team Rocket agents named Cassidy and Biff want to capture it. "It's Butch, you wretched reptile!" yelled Butch. But anyway, even after we defeat those two Team Rocket agents, we're going to have to battle Articuno. And Articuno's going to be a lot harder to defeat than some mere Team Rocket scum.

Episode 12: Articuno Expedition
(Insert "Surf Theme, Kanto Version" from Pokémon)
On our last adventure, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtles and their sensei, Splinter arrived to Fuchsia Gym and went under training from Koga, his sister, Aya and his daughter and the new Gym Leader, Janine. They trained with him for about a week. Misty also invited Koga and his family to Ash's birthday. But now, the five Pokémon ninjas along with Misty Waterflower, April O'Neil, her Ninetales & Primarina and Casey Jones were now on their way to the Seafoam Islands. Instead of swimming there, they took advantage of their Water Pokémon. Being Water Pokémon themselves, the Squirtles swam. They weren't wearing their ninja gear currently. Splinter, April, Casey and Misty were riding on Misty's Lapras. April's Primarina was also using this time to exercise too.
"This sure beats taking a ferry to the island," said April. "I guess it was a good thing Daisy lent me Lapras," said Misty. "So Misty, have you along with Ash and Brock ever been to the Seafoam Islands?" asked Lapras. "Yes. It was during Ash's training for the Indigo Plateau Conference. We met a scientist named Professor Westwood V. He was the one who wrote the entires on the Pokédex. When we met him, he was researching about Slowpoke's evolution. In addition, we met a surfer named Victor, who was undertaking the local challenge to plant a flag on a large rock sticking out of the ocean," said Misty. "When you traveled with Ash, have you ever encountered Articuno?" asked Casey. "Yes. Twice. Just like Zapdos, we encountered Articuno in both the Orange Islands and the Johto Region," said Misty.
"I read that the Seafoam Islands are tropical. Why would Articuno want to live on an island that's warm?" asked Donatello. "I've never visited them before, but I heard there are caves that are icy cold that are far from the city on the islands. So that's where we can start looking," said Misty. "Then that's where we'll go once we reach the island," said Leonardo. "But we should rest up once we reach the island. Who knows when we'll get to the island," said Primarina. "Rest is just as important as training," said Splinter. It was sunset when the heroes arrived to the island. They booked a room at the Pokémon Center there and were going to rest for the night.

(Insert "Team Rocket's Boss Meeting" from Pokémon)
Unfortunately, they weren't the only ones who landed on the Seafoam Islands. Team Rocket agents, Butch and Cassidy happened to be on the island. Currently, they were hiding out in an abandoned warehouse. They were speaking to Giovanni via a video phone. "Giovanni, sir. Cassidy and I have managed to reach the Seafoam Islands undetected," said Butch. "That is good. You can't let your cover be blown," said Giovanni. "Don't you worry, boss. We'll find Articuno and bring it to you," said Cassidy. "I hope so. I would be careful of not just Articuno. It seems that these rumored Ninja Squirtles that my ex-agents, Jessie, James and Meowth encountered are indeed real," said Giovanni. "Yes. Anton and Ivan told me about them," said Cassidy. "Even Annie and Oakley were humiliated by them," said Butch. "If you do encounter them, don't let them ruin you plans. Use the new Pokémon I gave you to defeat them. My organization's reputation has been dwindling already with my idiotic ex-agents' repeated defeats at the hands of Ash Ketchum and his friends. I don't want the other organizations to find out that more of my agents are being beaten by a bunch of Squirtles. Giovanni, over and out," said Giovanni. And the screen turned off.

The next day, the Squirtles and co. woke up and had breakfast. After that, they went into the forest trail that would lead them to the ice cave that was north of the city. "Well guys. It's time to partake in the second trail. We all remember how tough Zapdos was. Articuno's just as tough as its Electric-type counterpart. And once again, we may have to do this without weapons since Articuno doesn't use any. We'll take them off once we reach Articuno," said Leonardo. The TMNS, Splinter and the others began to venture into the forest to reach the cave.
The group walked for almost half of hour and they were getting close to the cave. At that moment, Leonardo held out his hand in front of everybody else. "Hold on," said Leonardo. "What's wrong?" asked Michelangelo. "I hear somebody approaching the cave in the opposite direction," said Leonardo. Leonardo was right. Somebody was else had arrived. It was a woman with long red hair, which was styled into a ponytail by a yellow band. The band actually had a Pokéball attached to it. She also had two pigtails on the side and had blue eye eyes. She wore glasses over her eyes and her attire consisted of a black sleeveless shirt, a purple pencil skirt, black high heels and a gold bracelet around her right arm. She also had pink lipstick and nail polish on. Michelangelo blushed at the sight of the woman. He did a wolf whistle at the sight of the woman. "Who's the babe?" asked Michelangelo. Misty looked at the woman carefully. "Wait a minute," said Misty. Her eyes widened when she realized who she was. "Oh my gosh! I know that woman! That's Lorelei!" cried Misty. "Lorelei?" asked Raphael. "She's a member of the Kanto Elite Four! She specializes in both Ice-types and Water-types. She's my hero!" cried Misty.
Misty began to run toward Lorelei. "Hey! Lorelei!" cried Misty. Lorelei turned around and saw Misty running toward her. She smiled and saw it was Misty. Misty was now where Lorelei was at. "Hello, Misty. It's been a while," said Lorelei. "It sure has. I hardly recognize you since you dyed your hair red," said Misty. "Oh no, no, no, no. This is actually my natural hair color," said Lorelei. "It is?" asked Misty. "Yes. I dyed my hair hot pink for a while. But I decided to stop dying it once my hair was growing longer," said Lorelei.
At that moment, the Squirtles, Splinter, April O'Neil and Casey Jones caught up with Misty. The TMNS and Splinter chose to stay in the shadows, not knowing how Lorelei will react in their presence. "Misty, you gotta slow down," said Casey. "Some of us can't run as fast as you," said April. "Squirtle, Squirt," said the Squirtles. "Oh. Are they new friends of yours?" asked Lorelei. "Yes. This is April O'Neil of UBC Channel 6 News. She's on vacation at the moment. And this is Casey Jones, a friend of hers," said Misty. "April, I read about you. Aren't you the woman who sometimes hang out with those Ninja Squirtles that saved the city from that mad scientist, Baxter Stockman?" asked Lorelei. "You know about them?" asked Misty. "Yes. I saw you broadcasting the battle," said Lorelei.
"I guess you can come out now, guys," said April. The TMNS and Splinter stepped out of the shadows. "I am their sensei, Splinter. These are my students and sons; Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo," said Splinter. Lorelei kneeled down so that she would be at eye level with the Squirtles. "Wow. They're pretty big for Squirtles," said Lorelei. "They were accidentally affected by some toxic waste. It affected their growth, but it hindered their evolutions. So the ninja training makes up for it," said April. "I see. But still, despite that, they're still as cute as normal Squirtles," said Lorelei. The Squirtles blushed due to Lorelei's comment.
"So what brings you here to cave, Lorelei?" asked Misty. "I came here to train. While I'm at it, I hope to catch a glimpse of Articuno. It was rumored to have been spotted in this cave," said Lorelei. "What a coincidence. We were going to explore the cave too," said Misty. "We're here cause believe it or not, the leader of the Legendary Pokémon, Arceus assigned us to train with Kanto's Legendaries to prepare for a big battle against an alien threat. We already were tested by Zapdos and now, it's Articuno's turn," said Donatello. "I see," said Lorelei. "Well, we better bundle up," said Misty. Misty, April and Casey changed into some winter coats to keep themselves warm. They noticed that Lorelei didn't put on a coat. "Aren't you going to put on a coat?" asked Casey. "No. The cold doesn't bother me, being an Ice-type specialist," said Lorelei. "Really," said Raphael, raising an eyebrow. The group began to venture into the cave.
Shortly after the heroes entered the cave, Butch and Cassidy emerged from the bushes. "Do you hear that? They're looking for Articuno," said Cassidy. "Yes. If we follow them, they'll lead us straight to Articuno," said Butch. The two snickered and began to follow after the heroes.

As the Squirtles and the others ventured further into the cave, the Squirtles themselves were starting to get chilly, little by little. But since Raticate had fur, he wasn't bothered by the dropping temperatures. "Man. It's freezing in here! I wish we had coats on," said Michelangelo. "Stop complaining, Mikey. It's not going to get us to Articuno faster," said Raphael. "This could help build up your endurance to the cold," said Splinter.
"So, do you know Lorelei because you, Ash and Brock met her?" asked April. "Yes. Ash and I met her at the Orange Islands, but Brock didn't meet her until Sinnoh," said Misty. "Why Sinnoh?" asked Casey. "You see, Brock met this Pokémon Professor named Professor Ivy and fell in love with her. He decided to stay with her and help her out at the lab. So instead, Ash and I traveled with this Pokémon Watcher named Tracey Sketchit," said Misty. "Sketchit. Ha, ha, ha. That's a funny last name. Get it? Sketchit as in 'sketch it'," said Michelangelo. Raphael gave Michelangelo a dope slap. "Ow!" cried Michelangelo. "I first met Ash, Pikachu, Nancy, Misty and Tracey at Mandarin Island. I remember it like it was yesterday," said Lorelei.

Four & a Half Years ago . . .
Ash, Pikachu, Nancy the Vulpix, Misty and Tracey Sketchit were having lunch at an outdoor cafe at Mandarin Island. Tracey was a man with black eyes and olive green hair. His attire consisted of a short-sleeved, green shirt with a darker green border on it, dark red shorts, an orange headband, socks, an orange backpack, and tennis shoes colored purple and bright orange, with white soles. His Pokémon consisted of Marill, Venonat and Scyther. He joined Ash and Misty shortly after Brock left to be with Professor Ivy. Misty and Tracey noticed that Ash was hardly eating his food.
"What's the matter, Ash?" asked Misty. "Are you happy that you won your recent battle easily?" asked Tracey. "That's the thing. The battle was too easy. My Pokémon aren't getting that much experience from my recent battles. I need to battle stronger opponents," said Ash. "Pikachu," said Pikachu. "Vulpix," said Nancy.
"Oh hello there, cutie," said a voice behind Nancy. The next thing Nancy knew, somebody was gently picking her up. "Vul?" asked Nancy. The one who picked up Nancy turned around so that they would be face to face. It was Lorelei. Back then, Lorelei's hair was dyed hot pink and her ponytail was shorter. She still wore glasses, pink lipstick and black high heels, but the rest of her outfit was different. She wore a blue jacket over a red shirt with a sweetheart neckline, a black belt with a gold buckle and a black pencil skirt. The band that styled her hair into a ponytail was blue instead of yellow. Everybody's eyes widened when they saw Lorelei. "Who's that?" asked Ash. "I don't believe it! That's Lorelei of the Elite Four! She uses Ice-types and Water-types, just like me! She's my hero!" cried Misty. "It seems she likes your Vulpix, Ash," said Tracey.
Lorelei began to rub noses with Nancy. "You're the first Alolan Vulpix that I've ever seen in person. I've read about and seen photos of an Alolan Vulpix. But to see one in person is even better," said Lorelei. The female Trainer then began to hug Nancy. She stroked the Vulpix's fur as she hugged her. Nancy began to coo as Lorelei stroked her fur. "I love how your white fur is so soft. Your fur is soft as snow on a beautiful winter day," said Lorelei. "Vul," said Nancy happily.

Ash stood up from his seat and approached Lorelei along with Pikachu. "I see you've taken a liking to Nancy," said Ash. "Oh. Is she your Vulpix?" asked Lorelei. "Yes," said Ash. Lorelei then recognized Ash. "I know you," said Lorelei. "You do?" asked Ash. "Yes. You're Ash Ketchum, the recent champion of the Indigo Plateau Conference. I saw you storm your way through the competition like a mighty blizzard," said Lorelei. "Yep. I sure did," said Ash. "How did you manage to get an Alolan Vulpix?" asked Lorelei. "I got her from a Pokémon Breeder named Suzy," said Ash. "I see," said Lorelei.
"She also happens to be the girlfriend of my Pikachu," said Ash. "Pikachu," said Pikachu. "Really," said Lorelei. Lorelei began to scratch underneath Pikachu's chin. She still held Nancy in one arm. Pikachu blushed pink and squealed happily. "So, who fell in love first?" asked Lorelei. "My Pikachu did," said Ash. "I can see why your Pikachu fell in love with Nancy. Nancy's as beautiful as winter itself," said Lorelei. "Although, Nancy didn't like him at first because he tried to sneak a kiss while she was asleep. She retaliated by freezing his lips," said Ash. "Oh, you naughty, naughty mouse," teased Lorelei. Pikachu's blushing turned from infatuated pink to embarrassed red. "It's something I wish I could forget," said Pikachu. "But you shouldn't. It taught you that women don't like getting kisses snuck under their noses," said Lorelei.
"Lorelei. I was wondering, is it possible that we can have a battle?" asked Ash. "Why?" asked Lorelei. "The Trainers I've been facing have been pushovers and my Pokémon haven't been gaining that much experience," said Ash. Lorelei thought for a moment. "Very well, I could give you a battle after I do a battle demonstration later this afternoon. I'd like to see how you've trained your Vulpix," said Lorelei as she handed Nancy to Ash. "Thanks," said Ash. "Meet me at my house after the battle demonstration," said Lorelei, giving Ash a card that had her address. "I look forward to our battle," said Lorelei. "So do I," said Ash. "Later," said Lorelei. And she began to walk away.
After the battle demonstration, Ash & co. met up with Lorelei at her house. Ash and Lorelei gathered at a stadium that was in her backyard. "You may be champion, but I'm on a whole different level," said Lorelei. "I know. I just need the experience," said Ash. "This will be a one on one battle," said Lorelei. "Okay. And the Pokémon I choose is Nancy!" said Ash. "Vulpix," said Nancy, stepping onto the battlefield. "Do your best, Nancy my love," said Pikachu. "Thanks," said Vulpix, blushing a bit. "For my Pokémon, I choose . . . Sandshrew!" said Lorelei, throwing a Pokéball. "Sandshrew?" asked Misty. "Why would Lorelei use a Ground-type Pokémon. Vulpix will just freeze it," said Tracey.
Sandshrew was a bipedal mammalian Pokémon, but runs on all fours at times. Normally, it would have a yellow hide, which was dry, tough, blends in with desert sand, and had a brick pattern, but its underbelly and muzzle were white. Sandshrew had blue, almond-shaped eyes, a pointed snout, and triangular ears with white insides. Its tail was thick and conical. It had two long claws on each foot and three sharp claws on its forepaws, which were used to burrow. But when Sandshrew came out of its Pokéball, it looked different from what everybody else thought. Lorelei's Sandshrew was actually a light, icy blue and with a cream-colored belly and muzzle. Its head now resembled an igloo. Thicker plates formed a dome around its head and its ears resembled an igloo's entrances. In adapting to this cold climate, its body became larger and heavier with a shell of ice covering its hide. The steel-like covering granted it extra defense, but it was unable to curl into a ball like its desert counterpart. "Sandshrew," said Sandshrew.
Everybody's eyes widened when they saw what Lorelei's Sandshrew looked like. "That's a Sandshrew?!" asked Ash. "Pika?!" asked Pikachu in disbelief. "It looks like a walking igloo," said Misty. "This happens to be an Alolan Sandshrew. The Sandshrew in Alola migrated to the snowy mountains due to the volcanic activity near the desert. As you can see, it gained extra defense by adapting to the cold. However, it can't curl into a ball like its desert counterpart. But that doesn't mean it can't be defeated more easily. I caught this cutie about a month ago. And already, he's becoming a strong fighter. Ready for battle?" asked Lorelei. "I'm ready when you are," said Ash. "Let the match begin!" said Tracey.
Nancy the Vulpix prepares to face Lorelei's Sandshrew!

"Sandshrew, start the battle by icing the field!" said Lorelei. "Shrew," said Sandshrew. Sandshrew fired an Ice Beam that froze the floor of the arena. "Now our Ice Pokémon can fight in their cold habitat. Sandshrew, use Metal Claw!" said Lorelei. Sandshrew's claws metalized and he charged at Nancy. "Nancy, use Baby Doll Eyes!" said Ash. Nancy stared at Sandshrew with her sparkling eyes, making Sandshrew slightly infatuated and softening his attack. "Very clever, Ash," said Lorelei. "Thanks. Now Nancy, use Extrasensory!" said Ash. Vulpix's eyes glowed gold and she released a rainbow-colored beam from her mouth, which hit Sandshrew. But it didn't do much damage. Ash noticed this. "Why didn't it do much damage?" asked Ash. "Alolan Sandshrew are part Steel-type too," said Lorelei. "Steel-type?" asked Tracey. "That's right," said Lorelei.
"Nancy, use Ice Beam!" said Ash. Nancy fired an Ice Beam attack at Sandshrew. "Sandshrew, dodge it!" said Lorelei. Sandshrew got on his belly and slide across the ice to dodge the Ice Beam attack. "Iron Head!" said Nancy. The top of Sandshrew's head glowed silver and he rammed Nancy, knocking her down. But the Alolan Vulpix got back up on her feet. "Sandshrew, use Gyro Ball!" cried Lorelei. Sandshrew fired a silver colored ball, which hit Nancy. "Nancy, use Payback!" said Ash. Vulpix then slapped Sandshrew with her tails with incredible force. Sandshrew crashed to the ground, but he got back up.
"Now Sandshrew, use Fury Swipes!" said Lorelei. Sandshrew charged at Nancy. "Nancy, dodge it!" cried Ash. Nancy began to dodge Sandshrew's incoming attacks. "Nancy, use Tail Whip!" said Ash. Nancy whipped Sandshrew in the face with her tails. "Nancy, use Ice Shard!" said Ash. Nancy began to fire ice shards at Sandshrew. "Sandshrew, use Iron Defense!" said Lorelei. Sandshrew's body began to glow silver and the ice shards broke upon impact with it. "Sandshrew, use Metal Claw!" said Lorelei. Sandshrew's claws began to glow silver and he slashed at Nancy, delivering super effective damage. "Finish it with Gyro Ball!" said Lorelei. Sandshrew fired the attack, which Nancy. "Vul!" cried Nancy.

Nancy fell to the ground, defeated. "Nancy!" cried Ash. "Nancy is unable to battle! Sandshrew wins!" said Tracey. "Way to go, Sandshrew," said Lorelei as she hugged her Sandshrew. "Shrew. Sandshrew," said Sandshrew. Lorelei then kissed her Sandshrew on the forehead, leaving a pink kiss mark. Sandshrew's cheeks blushed as pink as its Trainer's lips. Lorelei giggled.
Ash ran up to Nancy and picked her up. "Nancy, are you all right?" asked Ash. "Vul," said Nancy weakly. Lorelei walked up to Ash and Nancy. "Is your Vulpix okay?" asked Lorelei. She picked up Nancy and cradled her in her arms. "I hope I didn't hurt you too badly," said Lorelei. "Vulpix," said Nancy. Lorelei turned to Ash. "You trained Nancy real well," said Lorelei. "Thanks. Despite losing, I had fun battling you. After battling you, it shows that I must train harder if I'm to be at your level," said Ash. "Yes. Keep getting stronger, Ash," said Lorelei.
Suddenly, a large mechanical hand lunged forward and grabbed Lorelei's Sandshrew. "Shrew!" cried Sandshrew. Everybody gasped. "Sandshrew!" cried Lorelei. "We'll be taking your Sandshrew as a gift for our boss!" said a voice. It was Meowth. He and his parters were in their Meowth Balloon, with the clawing coming from the basket. Team Rocket then began to say their idiotic motto.

"Prepare for trouble!" said Jessie. "Make it double!" said James. "To protect the world from devastation!" said Jessie. "To unite all peoples within our nation!" said James. "To denounce the evils of truth and love!" said Jessie. "To extend our reach to the stars above!" said James. "Jessie!" said Jessie. "James!" said James. "Team Rocket, blasting off at the speed of light, light, light!" said Jessie. "Surrender now or prepare to fight, fight, fight!" said James. "Meowth, that's right!" said Meowth.

"That's my Sandshrew you're trying to steal!" said Lorelei. "Not anymore! It belongs to Team Rocket now!" said Jessie. "Not on my watch! Jynx, go!" said Lorelei.
(Insert "Pokémon Gym Theme" from Pokémon)
Lorelei threw the ball and her Jynx was summoned. Jynx was a bipedal, humanoid Pokémon that resembled a woman. Jynx wore a red gown that hid its feet and had white arms with purple hands. There were golden circles on the chest area of its gown. Jynx had a purple face, large pink lips, saucer-like eyes, and long blonde hair. Jynx was a female-only species with no true male counterpart. "Jynx," said Jynx. Team Team Rocket gasped in amazement. "It's a Jynx!" cried Jessie. "We'll catch it too!" said James.
"I don't think so! Jynx, use Ice Beam to freeze the arm of the claw!" said Lorelei. Jynx fired the said attack from her mouth. It froze the claw of the claw. Team Team Rocket gasped. This caused the arm of the claw to crack and break. Sandshrew began to fall to the ground, screaming. "Jynx, use Psychic to slow Sandshrew's descent," said Lorelei. Jynx's eyes began to glow blue and Sandshrew was caught in a psychic aura. Jynx lowered Sandshrew gently back onto the ground. Lorelei ran up to Sandshrew and began to hug him. "Sandshrew, are you okay?" asked Lorelei. "Shrew," said Sandshrew.
"How dare you! We won't let you get away with this! Arbok, go!" cried Jessie. "Weezing, I choose you!" said James. Jessie and James threw the Pokéballs and their Pokémon came out. Arbok was the evolved form of Ekans. It was a a serpent like Pokémon with purple scales all over its body. It had a large hood just below its head, like a cobra. On its hood, it had a design much like an angry face, which can come in six variations. The pattern typically has red and yellow eyespot outlined in black, a wide black streak resembling a mouth, and a V-shaped stripe about the face pattern. Weezing was the evolved form of Koffing. It was a purple Pokémon consisting of two spherical heads connected by a thin tube with another sphere in the center. The heads had differing sizes and features. The left head was larger, and has prominent eyebrows, pointed teeth protruding from its lower jaw, and two flat teeth in its upper jaw. The smaller, right head simply had two pointed teeth, one at each corner of its mouth. The larger head had a cream-colored skull-and-crossbones marking below its face, while the smaller head had a light yellow circle instead. It was covered with many crater-like protrusions, which usually expelled sickly green gases. Arbok hissed. "Weezing Weez," said Weezing.
"Arbok, Poison Sting!" cried Jessie. "Weezing, Sludge!" cried James. Arbok fired poisonous stingers from its mouth. Weezing spat sludge toward Jynx. "Jynx, use Confusion to reflect it back!" said Lorelei. Jynx's eyes began to glow blue again and the two Poison Pokémon's attacks were stopped in their tracks. Jynx then hurled them right back at the two Pokémon. Weezing and Arbok were hit by their own attacks. "Jynx, use Lovely Kiss!" said Lorelei. Jynx then blew a kiss at both Arbok and Weezing, releasing some pink lip-shaped waves at them. The lip shaped-waves hit both Pokémon and they fell asleep. Team Team Rocket gasped. "Use Ice Punch to send the two back to their masters!" said Lorelei. Jynx's fist began to glow an icy blue and she punch Arbok and Weezing. They were sent flying toward Team Rocket's Meowth Balloon. They crashed into the balloon itself, popping a hole in it. The balloon began to deflate wildly and the balloon was spinning around in the air. "Look's like Team Rocket's blasting off again!" cried Team Rocket. And they disappeared.

"Wow. You sure showed Team Rocket a thing or three," said Misty. "Yeah," said Ash. "My Jynx's performance was smooth as ice," said Lorelei. "Jynx," said Jynx.
Present Time . . .
"So, when did you encounter Ash again, which was also the first time you encountered Brock?" asked Misty. "That's another story for another time," said Lorelei.
"But anyway, how's Ash?" asked Lorelei. "He and his current friends are traveling in the Decolore Islands before heading home. I was wondering, do you have time to come to Ash's birthday party later this month?" asked Misty. "Oh, I'd love to come over. I especially want to see how Nancy and Pikachu are doing. How are you doing, Misty?" asked Lorelei. "It feels great to be traveling again. But, I'm experiencing a problem," said Misty. "What problem?" asked Lorelei. "You see, my Psyduck recently evolved into a Golduck. But the problem is that it won't obey me," said Misty. "Why not?" asked Lorelei. "You see, when it was just as a Psyduck, it's fighting skills were pathetic. It could only use psychic attacks if it got a terrible headache. I've often abused it verbally and physically. It seems upon evolving, it's taking its years of abuse out on me," said Misty sadly. Lorelei pondered on the problem. "It seems after evolving, its years of abuse prior to evolution has hardened Golduck's heart into a heart of ice. There is one way to thaw that cold heart of his," said Lorelei. "How?" asked Misty. "Show your Golduck kindness and love. Show him how sorry you are for your abuse toward him when it was a Psyduck. Only then will it finally trust you again," said Lorelei. "Okay. I'll try," said Misty.
Suddenly, Splinter got a tense look. "Something up Dareen?" asked Casey. Suddenly, a Gyro Ball hit the group, knocking them down. "What was that?" asked Leonardo. Suddenly, a forcefield cage surrounded the group, trapping them. "Oh no! It's a forcefield!" cried April. The heroes began to hear evil laughter. It was Butch and Cassidy. They created the forcefield cage using a box-sized machine that projected and controlled it. The one who fired the Gyro Ball attack was a Pokémon called Ferrothorn, a Grass & Steel-type Pokémon. It was a Pokémon resembling a flattened durian. Its metallic body was covered in thorns, with three black stripes circling its width, the middle stripe having triangular decorations below the eyes of Ferrothorn. Its eyes had green rims, yellow scleras, and dark pupils. There was a green spike at the top of its body, and extending around it were vine-like, long green appendages tipped with spiky metal disks. It can use these appendages to either cling to ceilings of its cave or walk around. When hanging, it can attack its prey underneath by shooting spikes. Ferrothorn belonged to Cassidy. Butch and Cassidy began to say their own version of the motto.

"Prepare for trouble!" said Cassidy. "Make it double!" said Butch. "To infect the world with devastation!" said Cassidy. "To blight all people in every nation!" said Butch. "To denounce the goodness of truth and love!" said Cassidy. "To extend our wrath to the stars above!" said Butch. "Cassidy!" said Cassidy. "Butch!" said Butch. "We're Team Rocket, circling Earth all day and night!" said Cassidy. "Surrender to us now or you'll surely lose the fight!" said Butch. "That's right!" said Cassidy. And right on cue, their ace Pokémon, a Raticate appeared. "Cate!" said Raticate.

"Oh great. It's Cassidy and Clutch!" said Misty. "It's Butch! BUTCH!" yelled Butch. "Let us out of here this instant!" said Raphael. "We only take orders from Giovanni, not you. You must be those Squirtles," said Butch. "So you have heard of us from not just Jessie, James and Meowth, but also from Annie and Oakley," said Leonardo. "Those five weren't prepared to face you. But we are. We just need to make sure you don't interfere with our operation to capture Articuno. And this cage will make sure of it. But even if you do happen to get out of the cage, you'll have to get past my Ferrothorn," said Cassidy. She turned to Ferrothorn. "Don't let them out of your sight," said Cassidy. "Ferro," said Ferrothorn. Butch and Cassidy then began to leave. "We got to get out of here somehow!" said Casey. Splinter, the TMNS and Lorelei remained calm and began to think of a plan.
Deep in the center of the cave, was where the mighty Articuno dwelled. The room was huge and had plenty of space for Articuno to fly around. There was also ice cold water for Articuno to drink. He was waiting for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtles and Splinter to show up. "Hmm. They're late. I was sure they would've been here by now," said Articuno. Butch and Cassidy were watching Articuno from their hiding place. "Time to call upon my secret weapon against Articuno," said Butch, taking out a Pokéball. "Eelektross, let's go!" said Butch. He threw the ball and his said Pokémon was summoned. Eelektross was an eel-like Pokémon that resembled a lamprey, with a long tentacle-like, finned limb extending from its head. It had red eyes, dark blue body, and possessed clawed, paddle-like arms with yellow spots and yellow-and-red palms. It had a beige fin on the upper portion of its body and beige fin-like legs below. It lived in the ocean, but it comes ashore to capture prey. It can use its arms to crawl out of the ocean and its sucker mouth to suck in prey. After latching onto its prey using its sucker mouth, it drags the prey into the ocean. It electrifies prey before eating. "Eelektross!" said Eelektross.

"Eelektross, use Thunderbolt!" said Butch. Eelektross fired its electrical attack at Articuno from behind. Articuno however sensed the attack coming. The Legendary bird Pokémon took to the sky to dodge the attack. Articuno then spotted Butch, Cassidy and Eelektross. He recognized the symbols on their uniforms. "Team Rocket scum," said Articuno. Articuno let out a squawk and fired an Ice Beam at the two Team Rocket agents and Eelektross. The three dodged it before they could get frozen. Eelektross continued to fire several Thunderbolt attacks at Articuno. But Articuno kept dodging them and fire Ice Beam attacks. However, Eelektross was dodging them too.

Back in the part of the cave they were in, the Squirtles and the others were trying to figure out how to get out of the forcefield and get past Cassidy's Ferrothorn. "We can't take out of the forcefield generator without Ferrothorn stopping us," said Misty. "I think I mighty have an idea," said Donatello. He began to whisper his plan to the Squirtles. He gave Splinter a smoke ball and the mutant Raticate rolled it at Ferrothorn. It stopping rolling when it was close enough to Ferrothorn. "Ferro?" asked Ferrothorn. Suddenly, the smoke ball exploded and smoke began to fill the room. Ferrothorn began to cough. While it was blinded, Donatello then grabbed an explosive ninja shuriken and it destroyed the forcefield generator. The forcefield cage then disappeared. When the smoke cleared, Ferrothorn saw the heroes, battle ready.

Ferrothorn fired a Gyro Ball at the TMNS and Splinter, but they dodged the attack just in time. "Donatello, what type is Ferrothorn?" asked Michelangelo. "Ferrothorn is a dual type Grass & Steel-type! I recommend we use our Fighting-type attacks to smash it!" said Donatello. "Now you're speaking my language!" said Raphael. He began to charge at Ferrothorn. Ferrothorn lashed out its vines at Raphael and they began to glow. This was Ferrothorn's Power Whip attack. Luckily, Raphael dodged its vines, one by one. Raphael's fist began to glow white and he punched Ferrothorn, delivering super effective damage. The other Squirtles also executed Brick Break on Ferrothorn as well.
Splinter began to charge at Ferrothorn, real fast. As Splinter was charging at Ferrothorn, flames started to surrounded the mutant Raticate. Everybody gasped when they saw this happening, but Michelangelo did his girly scream. "Master Splinter's on fire!" cried Michelangelo. "I don't believe it! That's a Flame Wheel attack!" said Misty. "Flame Wheel?" asked Casey. "It's a Fire-type attack where a Pokémon charges at its foe while surrounded by flames, delivering serious damage. I didn't think Raticate could learn Flame Wheel," said Misty. "A Raticate can inherit it from certain Fire-type Pokémon that may have been its parent," said Lorelei. Ferrorthorn's eyes widened when it saw Splinter charging at it at full speed.
Back in Articuno's den, Articuno and Eelektross continued to fire at and dodge each other. Cassidy then took out a net launcher. "We'll net it while it's distracted with our new electric net launcher," said Cassidy. "Great idea, Cassidy!" said Butch. But before they could fire a net, they heard a fiery explosion behind them. "Huh?!" asked the two thieves. Ferrothorn, black as soot was sent flying out of the explosion and crashed into the two. All three toppled over. Ferrothorn had swirls for eyes to show that it was defeated. Eelektross and Articuno stopped fighting for the moment.

When the smoke cleared, the Ninja Squirtles, Splinter, April, Casey, Misty and Lorelei emerged. Although, Splinter's clothes were burned due to using Flame Charge. "Oh no! They prisoners escaped!" cried Cassidy. "And there are those rumored Ninja Squirtles!" said Butch. "So you have heard of us from not just Jessie, James and Meowth, but also from Annie and Oakley," said Leonardo. "Those five weren't prepared to face you. But we are," said Cassidy. "Eelektross, deal with those wretched reptiles first!" said Butch. "Eelek," said Eelektross. "Careful Squirtles, Eelektross are very nasty Electric-type Pokémon," said April. "We've beaten impossible odds before and we can do it again," said Donatello. "To deal with your Raticate, we'll use ours!" said Cassidy. "Raticate!" said Raticate. Splinter took a defensive pose. "Seadra, go!" said Misty. "Lapras, I choose you!" said Lorelei. The two Water Trainers summoned their two Pokémon. Lorelei's Lapras was a regular Lapras. "If its a Water Pokémon battle you want, so be it. Tentacruel, go!" said Cassidy. "Cloyster, go!" said Butch. The two thieves summoned their said Pokémon. "Tentacruel," said Tentacruel. "Cloyster," said Cloyster.

Eelektross made the first move by firing a Thunderbolt attack at the Squirtles. The four Squirtles were zapped, but it didn't much damage than it would normally do. "What?!" asked Butch. "Zapdos could deliver more pain with his electricity than your stupid eel!" sneered Raphael. "Endure this!" said Eelektross. Eelektross fired an Acid attack. "Look out!" cried Leonardo. The four Squirtles dodged the Acid attack just in time. Donatello ducked into his shell and executed a Rapid Spin attack on Eelektross. Leonardo struck Eelektross with a Brick Break attack. Raphael and Michelangelo hit Eelektross with an Ice Beam attack, but it wasn't enough to freeze it though. Raticate executed a Quick Attack, but Splinter was quicker. Splinter tail whipped Raticate right in the face. Splinter dodged Raticate's attacks, one by one. This frustrated Raticate.
Tentacruel and Cloyster fired Water Gun attacks at both Seadra and Lapras. Seadra and Lapras countered with their own Water Gun attacks. The four Water Gun attacks collided, making a huge splash. "Lapras, use Ice Beam attack!" said Lorelei. Lapras fired her Ice Beam attack at Tentacruel, freezing it instantly. "My Tentacruel!" cried Cassidy. "That's what happens when you try to challenge a member of the Elite Four without proper training," said Lorelei. Cloyster began to fire its Spike Cannon attack at Seadra. "Seadra, dodge it!" cried Misty. Seadra dodged the spikes that were fired at it, one by one. "Now Seadra, use Bubble Beam!" cried Misty. Seadra fired some bubbles at Cloyster, which did some damage on Cloyster.
"While those fools are fighting our Pokémon, we'll nab Articuno," said Cassidy. "Not so fast!" said Casey, getting out his sports gear. He was armed with his signature hockey stick along with a croquet mallet. "You've got to be kidding me," said Butch. "Goongala!" cried Casey as he charged. He swung his hockey stick, knocking Butch and Cassidy down. "So, you wanna play rough?!" asked Cassidy. "So be it!" said Butch. They took out some staffs. The three began to fight using their melee weapons. They blocked each other's attacks while trying to strike each other. Articuno watched as the heroes fought the villains.
The TMNS charged at Eelektross and executed Brick Break on the rogue Pokémon at once. This defeated Eelektross as indicated by its swirly eyes. Raticate charged at Splinter, but Splinter jumped out of the way. This caused Raticate to crash into the wall, defeating it. Cloyster charged and tackled Seadra. But Cloyster hit one of Seadra's sharp quills, which was a bad mistake. Cloyster's face began to turn purple and began to feel sick. "What's happened?" asked April. "It's Seadra's Poison Point. By doing a physical attack on my Seadra, Cloyster is poisoned," said Misty. Cloyster groaned as the poison was taking effect. Seadra then tackled Cloyster, sending it crashing into Tentacruel, Eelektross and Raticate. Butch and Cassidy were so busy fighting Casey Jones that they didn't notice their four Pokémon heading for them. Casey did a dodge roll. "Huh?" asked Butch & Cassidy. Their Pokémon suddenly crashed into the two thieves without warning and they toppled over. Articuno then fired an Ice Beam attack at Butch & Cassidy and their Pokémon. All six were frozen in a block of ice. Articuno then whacked the ice block with its tail, which sent them flying into the distance. "Look's like Team Rocket's blasting off again!" cried Butch & Cassidy. And they disappeared.

"That takes care of them," said Raphael. The heroes turned to Articuno. The TMNS approached Articuno. "Sorry we were late. Those crooks trapped us in a forcefield, but we escaped," said Leonardo. "It's quite all right. But the important thing is that you're here," said Articuno. "Is it true you have to test them?" asked Lorelei. "Yes. The TMNS are partaking in a series of tests from Kanto's Legendaries to prepare them for an upcoming battle against a great evil. They already passed Zapdos' trail. So now, they'll have to face me once they rest up. They need to regain their full energy after that fight with Butch and Cassidy's Pokémon," said Articuno. "You're not hurt, are you Articuno?" asked Lorelei. "I'm quite fine, thank you," said Articuno.
During their rest, the TMNS and Splinter explained to Lorelei about their origins. " . . . and after the defeat of Team Plasma, we decided to visit Kanto and that's how we wound up getting involved with this training for this big battle," said Splinter. "That's quite a story," said Lorelei. "Promise that you won't tell anybody who we are," said Leonardo. "Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me," said Lorelei, winking.
Very soon, it was time for the TMNS and Splinter to partake in Articuno's trial. April held onto their weapons. "So, what is this next test we are to partake in?" asked Leonardo. "The trail of adaptability," said Articuno. "Adaptability?" asked Michelangelo. "Sometimes in battle, your enemy will somehow affect the environment that its hard to adapt to. So, you'll have to learn to adapt, fast," said Articuno.

Articuno made the first move. The first thing he did was fire an Ice Beam attack at the body of water that was in his den. Upon impact with the water, the Ice Beam froze the water in a thick layer of ice. The TMNS gasped upon seeing this. "No fair! He froze the water! The water would've been our advantage!" cried Michelangelo. "Even if he could use the water, Articuno will just freeze it while we were in it," said Leonardo. "Squirtles. If you're to beat me in combat, you must learn to adapt to the environment change," said Articuno. The TMNS and Splinter turned to face Articuno.

Next, Articuno began to flap its wings, creating strong gusts of wind at the five Pokémon ninjas. "Hang on, everybody! Articuno's using its Gust attack!" cried Donatello. The TMNS and Splinter struggled to not get blown away by Articuno's Gust. Next, Articuno began to charge, with its beak pointed forward, ready to peck at its opponents. The TMNS and Splinter dodged Articuno's Peck attack by dodge rolling away from it. Leonardo and Raphael tried to run toward Articuno, but they found themselves slipping on the ice. "Whoooooa!" cried Leo & Raph. They fell to the ground. "Now I see why Articuno says we have to adapt fast," said Raphael. "We must adapt fast or we'll surely lose," said Splinter.
Articuno charged again, but the five ninjas dodged that attack too. It was hard to dodge Articuno's attacks with the slippery surface of the iced water. "This is crazy! How can we fight Articuno if we can't run without slipping?!" cried Raphael. Donatello then got an idea. "Guys! We must use the slippery surface to our advantage!" cried Donatello. "How?!" asked Michelangelo. "Donatello, explain," said Leonardo. "Well, we could somehow use the slippery surface to dodge Articuno faster than normal," said Donatello. "It's risky, but Donatello's idea might work," said Splinter.
The TMNS and Splinter saw Articuno charging at them again. It opened its mouth and prepared to fire an Ice Beam attack at the five. "Get ready!" said Donatello. Articuno then fired the attack. "Now!" said Donatello. The TMNS jumped, ducked into their shells and began to slide across the ice to dodge Articuno's Ice Beam attack.
Michelangelo was heading for a wall. He used his feet to propel himself toward Articuno. He then grabbed onto Articuno's tail. "Ha ha!" cried Michelangelo triumphantly. But Articuno began to fly while trying to shake Michelangelo off of its tail. Michelangelo screamed as he was getting swung around by Articuno's thrashing tail. Splinter did a face palm. "Oy," groaned Splinter. Articuno finally caused Michelangelo to let go of its tail and the ninja Squirtle crashed to the ground. "Mikey! Are you okay?!" asked Donatello. "I think I hurt my spleen," groaned Michelangelo.
Articuno then fired a couple of Ice Shards, which hit the TMNS and Splinter, knocking them down. April and the others gasped. However, they weren't out of the fight yet. The TMNS fired their Water Pulse attacks at Articuno. The four attacks hit Articuno, doing some damage on the Legendary Pokémon. Articuno retaliated by firing an Ancient Power attack at the TMNS and Splinter. The ninjas managed to dodge the attack. Splinter saw a nearby structure. He began to run up on it. He gained speed as he ran. And when he jumped off the structure like a ramp, his body became surrounded in flames, executing his Flame Wheel attack. He hit Articuno in the back, delivering super effective damage.
"You're more resilient than I anticipated. It's no wonder you were able to defeat my Electric-type counterpart," said Articuno. Articuno then began to fire mist from its beak, cloaking the den with thick mist. "Keep your eyes and ears peeled!" cried Leonardo. They began to look around for any sign of Articuno. Suddenly, Donatello saw a light blue glow coming from the mist. "Huh?" asked Donatello. Suddenly, an Ice Beam attack was fired at them. "Look out!" cried Donatello. The TMNS and Splinter dodged the Ice Beam, but barely.
Then, Splinter remembered something. "My sons! Use the new attacks that we were taught with TMs by April and Casey!" said Splinter. "That's right. Before we began our journey to the cave, we used TMs to learn new attacks!" said Donatello. "Now let's use them!" said Raphael. Splinter went first. His hands began to crackle with electricity. The mutant Raticate then fired the electricity, which zapped Articuno. Articuno shrieked as it got zapped by the attack. Misty was shocked. "No way! Raticate can learn Thunderbolt?!" asked Misty. "That's right," said April. "Firing Gyro Balls!" cried Leonardo. Each Ninja Squirtle did a hand pose and silver balls of energy formed in their hands. They fired the Gyro Balls, which hit Articuno. That did super effective damage just like Thunderbolt. "Cowabunga! It's super effective!" cried Michelangelo.
The fight raged on until sunset. By this time, both sides were starting to tire out. Articuno then fired one last Ice Beam. Splinter countered by firing a Thunderbolt attack. Both attacks collided, resulting in a beam struggle. Splinter and Articuno struggled to push each other's beams back at each other. Articuno started to put more power into its Ice Beam attack. But Splinter also put more power into the Thunderbolt attack. "Master Splinter can't hold that Ice Beam much longer," said Raphael. Donatello began to think of a plan. He got an idea. "Guys, I have an idea that just might work," said Donatello. He began to whisper his plan to his brothers.
Splinter and Articuno were still struggling with their beam fight. Suddenly, the TMNS, who had snuck behind Articuno fired Gyro Balls at the Legendary Pokémon. This caused Articuno to lose his concentration. "Now's my chance!" cried Splinter. He let out a yell and his Thunderbolt began to break through Articuno's Ice Beam. Articuno was then zapped by the Ice Beam attack. It shrieked as it got electrocuted. Articuno fell to the ground, defeated.

Splinter panted. He began to fall to the ground, but Leonardo and Donatello caught him in their arms. "Are you okay, Master Splinter?" asked Leonardo. "I've endured worse. But putting so much power into that Thunderbolt drained me of a lot of energy," said Splinter. "Take it easy, Splinter. Even ninja masters need to be careful of how much power they put into their attacks," said Donatello.
Lorelei helped nurse Articuno back to health. As Lorelei was patching up Articuno's wounds, the ice bird began to speak to the Squirtles and Splinter. "You've passed my test with flying colors. That was very clever of you Squirtles to distract me by firing those Gyro Balls, allowing your sensei to defeat me. Keep in mind, future foes may do try to do the same thing to you in battle. You must be ready for anything," said Articuno. "So who's the next Legendary we'll have to partake in a trail from?" asked Raphael. "Moltres, the Fire & Flying Legendary. Moltres lives at the top of Mt. Ember, on One Island. You may have the elemental advantage over Moltres, but Moltres is still a powerful opponent," said Articuno. "Yes. Even though Rahzar, a mutant Lycanroc that Shredder once created was a Rock-type, he was a very tough opponent to beat. That shows that type doesn't always win the battle," said Leonardo. "You have your father's wisdom, Leonardo. Use it wisely. I advise you take a day's rest before you take on Moltres," said Articuno. Leonardo nodded.

After healing up at the Pokémon Center, it was time for the Squirtles, Splinter, April, Casey and Misty to leave. They were getting ready to leave on a ferry. Lorelei was getting ready to say farewell to them. "So where are you off to now?" asked Lorelei. "This ferry will take us to Cinnabar Island. From there on, we'll catch a ferry that'll take us to One Island after our rest day," said Misty. "I'll see you at Ash's birthday party," said Lorelei. "We'll see you then too, Lorelei," said April. "And I wish your Pokémon luck on their training," said Lorelei. "Thanks," said April and Casey. "Squirtle Squirt," said the Squirtles. "Raticate," said Splinter. The ferry then began to leave. Our heroes waved to Lorelei, saying their goodbyes and Lorelei waved back as well.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtles and Splinter have passed Articuno's Trial of Adaptability. And now, they'll head to Cinnabar Island for a day's rest before taking on Moltres. What kind of test will Moltres put our heroes through? We'll find out, when the journey continues, next time, on "Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtles"! Cowabunga!

On the next episode of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtles", the next trial that the Squirtles have to do is Moltres' Trial of Speed and Quick Thinking. Unfortunately, the Foot want to get their greedy hands on Moltres. So our heroes must fight off the Foot before taking on the fiery Moltres. Moltres' test is going to be harder since they're fighting in the middle of the volcano's crater! Can our heroes pass this trial or will their attempt go down in flames, literally?! Find out, in "The Moltres Meltdown" on Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtles!
The Squirtles did it. They passed the second trial. As you saw, Lorelei's pink hair is actually hair dye. I did it as a way to explain why Lorelei now has red hair in the Generation 3 games. Next time, things will literally heat up when it's time for the third trial.
