Chapter 16 The forgotten memories
Its been about a week since Sean and Korra bought Tarrlok's former house for their own. And Korra was enjoying it greatly since for the first three days they never even left the house now that they could have some privacy.
Speaking of whom.
Korra shuddered as Sean came inside her for the third time before she collapsed into his arms making him chuckle as they held each other.
"I'm a little worried you might have turned into a sex fiend like Aphrodite." Sean said making her laugh.
"Only difference is I only sleep with one person." Korra said kissing him before sleep claimed them both.
As Sean slept he expected it to be pleasant dreams.
But instead he found himself looking at two young boys. One of which was himself when he was 7. The other a year younger with a strange red birth mark on his body that resembled the Mark on Sean's body. As they were playing the sounds of screams of horror was heard making him look seeing a barrage of flaming arrows hitting the citizens of Sparta.
Sean groaned in his sleep which Korra noticed.
"Sean?" Korra asked in concern.
Sean watched as many of his people were slaughtered before someone on a large horse charged at Sean and the boy before grabbing the later.
"Sean! HELP"
Sean gasped as he woke up seeing Korra looking at him in concern.
"It's ok clam down." Korra said as he sat up holding his face as she held him. "Was that a vision from those days." Korra asked.
"No...I don't know what that was. I saw myself when I was at least 7 with someone a year younger. I don't recognize him though." Sean said.
Next morning
"So you have no idea who this boy was?" Tenzin asked as Sean and Korra were on Air temple island.
"No. And this isn't the first time I've seen this vision but not this intense." Sean said.
"When did it start?" Korra asked.
"After I scattered my family's ashes in the realm of the Giants. Small flashes at first but last night was the first they have ever been that intense. What does it mean?" Sean asked.
"I think you might be experiencing the signs of repressed memories." Tenzin said.
"Repressed?" Korra asked.
"Memories that have been locked away. It's possible his family might be trying to tell him something." Tenzin said.
"How the hell am I supposed to remember anything from those days?" Sean asked.
"I think by visiting the oracle Lin brought." Tenzin said.
"Uh-uh. No way." Korra said remembering what happened last time.
"I know your still holding a grudge for what Lin did but this might be the only way for him to unlock his memories of what happened in the past." Tenzin said.
"Anything to get these new visions out of my head." Sean said while Korra looked concerned.
Soon the group was at the temple of the Oracle.
"So what exactly do I need to do?" Sean asked before large pool of water was seen.
"You need to be submerged into the water. From there I can access any blocked memories. But the process will be painful." The Oracle said.
"Sean." Korra said gaining his attention. "We don't have to do this." Korra said.
"I need to know what these memories are. This kid meant something to me. I need to find out why." Sean said getting into the pool before lying on his back before he was submerged.
"We can begin now." The Oracle said before the pool glowed.
Once more Sean found himself in his home of Sparta before seeing himself and the young boy he had forgotten before who it was that took him was revealed.
Ares...The God of war. Sean's former Master.
The younger Sean tried to get the boy back but Ares punched him into a wall before laughing.
"Make no mistake little Spartan...You will serve me well in years to come." Ares said before taking the boy away.
"Sean! HELP!" The boy cried as Sean reached for him.
Suddenly the memory changed showing Sean out cold on a stone table with his mother who was 5 months pregnant and with her was Sparta's oracle.
"You sure you want to do this?"
"I lost one son already. I can't lose another. Suppress his memories I already took his brother's face and name off the family tree." Lysandra said before the Oracle grabbed his head.
Unknowingly in doing so by suppressing the memory of his brother had left Sean with a void that was replaced by anger. In the back of his mind he knew he had lost something important. His mother's actions would later come to haunt her as it had later set Sean on his dark path centuries ago. The loss of his own brother changed him greatly. The Loss of...
Sean widened his eyes before the pool exploded shocking the others.
"DEIMOS!" Sean roared sitting up before drawing shaky breaths before Korra rushed to him.
"It's ok calm down." Korra said as he got his breathing under control.
"Who's Deimos?" Mako asked.
"My little brother." Sean said shocking them. "I think he's alive." Sean said.
Later
"You never said you had a brother. Well...Not one by blood." Korra said looking at Turok who was also surprised.
"I...My mother blocked my memories of him. Scratched off his name and face off the family tree. She didn't want to lose another because I would go out every night looking for him. Finally she had enough and made our Oracle block all my memories. Only her actions had a more negative consequence that led me down my dark path." Sean said.
"What do you mean?" Asami asked.
"I knew something was missing in my life and created a void which was filled with anger. Anger that led me into the Spartan army. The only thing that helped me control it was my sister. My mother was just as responsible for my dark path as I was." Sean said.
"But what happened to your brother?" Mako asked.
"Ares took him." Sean said shocking them. "He was probably counting on what my mother did that led me down my darker days." Sean said.
"Where would he keep your brother for all these years?" Tenzin asked.
"Theres only one place I can think of. And thats what bothers me. Deaths domain." Sean said.
"Why would your uncle keep your brother?" Korra asked.
"Not Hades. No...this place is far worse. Death's domain is ruled by a god that is far older than Olympus and the Titans. Ruled by the God Thanatos The God of Death. A primordial God if you will." Sean said.
"Why would Ares send him there?" Asami asked concerned.
"Because no one not even a god would be stupid enough to go there and pick a fight with a primordial. Ares and Thanatos must have struck some kind of bargain." Sean said before standing. "Doesn't matter though. I'm going." Sean said shocking them.
"Are you insane! We're talking about THE god of Death's domain. No one could survive there!" Reznov said.
"I don't care. He's waited long enough." Sean said.
"Sean wait." Korra said stopping him. "I get it. He's your brother and you feel responsible for not saving him. But you don't even know if he's even still alive." Korra said.
"Why else would I be getting these visions now. It makes no sense to show me I had a brother unless he was already dead. No...He's alive. I can just feel it." Sean said making her sigh.
"Ok...Where would we need to go to get to Death's domain?" Korra asked.
"It's not that simple actually. Theres a gateway outside of Sparta but it requires a key. I know where it is though. In the Temple of Ares." Sean said.
"Are you sure you wanna do this. He could be baiting you." Tenzin said.
"I have no choice. It's time I bring Deimos home." Sean said.
"I'm coming with you." Korra said.
"We all are." Reznov said making him nod.
Later
The group soon appeared outside the gates of Sparta using the Travel stone.
"Hmm." Sean said looking at his home. After 300 years away from Sparta Sean had seen great changes in the culture of his people. No longer did they take Children away from their families at the age of 7. The sick and weak were no longer thrown out of the city and they did not declare pointless war on all who opposed them. It was a good change in Sean's mind.
"You ok?" Korra asked holding his hand.
"Yeah...Lets just get this over with." Sean said as they walked into the city.
Arriving at the temple Sean was surprised to see his people pulling down the statue of Ares.
"Oh wow." Reznov said before a Spartan approached them.
"My Lord! We shall make quick work of this to finally Rid Sparta of Ares Influence."
"My lord?" Korra asked amused.
"Don't get any ideas." Sean said making her giggle as the Statue was pulled down and broke apart.
"Good riddance." Turok said.
Sean walked to the temple seeing Ares face on the door before it glowed.
"Face thyself, and your fate shall be sealed." Ares said before the doors opened up.
"Stay here." Sean said.
"But Sean." Korra tried to say.
"I need to do this alone. I don't know what to expect and I don't want you caught in the middle." Sean said making her sigh before he walked inside as the doors shut.
In the temple stood another Statue of Ares making Sean frown.
Even at a young Age Ares had controlled Sean's life. At one point he would have served him for all eternity for ultimate power. But that night in the temple freed him of all his control and influence. One day they would fight to the death and only one would stand. And it would not be the God of war of that Sean would make certain.
Walking further into the temple he found a mirror that showed his reflection before said reflection lost the mark on his face. The blood of his family. Sean widened his eyes before feeling his face but felt it still there making him frown before reaching forward.
Only for his reflection to grab him.
"HEY!" Sean yelled pulling back before jumping back.
His reflection started to change before turning into his 15 year old self before it charged out and roared at him before jumping on him.
"YOU LET DEIMOS BE TAKEN!" Young Sean roared.
Sean roared before charging him back into the wall before smashing him into the mirror constantly.
"ARGH!" Sean roared before smashing his younger self into the mirror making it shatter.
Growling as he looked at the glass he looked forward seeing the key to the domain of death which was in the form of a skull before he grabbed it.
Korra was starting to get worried about ready to kick the door down when Sean came out with the key.
"Get what you needed?" Asami asked.
"Yeah. Lets..." Sean tried to say before a dead body appeared shocking them before it looked at Sean.
"Demon of Sparta. I have not forgotten you or the pain you have wrought to me 300 years ago." Thanatos said through the body.
"I warned your daughter several times to turn away but she would not listen. Blame Ares for her death and the bargain you two made." Sean said shocking the others he had killed the child of a primordial god. "Where is my brother?" Sean demanded making him laugh.
"If you Persist, not even the Fates will prevent me from ending your path. Ares was unwise to think you could serve him. Your too soft." Thanatos said making him glare.
"I'm more human is the more correct term. Thats why Ares took him isn't it? Hoping I would lose that eventually as I served him." Sean said making him laugh.
"Ares hoped to alter the course of your destiny by changing certain points in time that would benefit him and him alone. None of that matters now." Thanatos said.
"Do not stand in my way Thanatos. Or Ares blood and your daughter's are not the only ones I will shed." Sean said as Thanatos laughed before the body turned to dust.
Sean shook his head before walking away to the door of Death's domain.
"You never once said you killed another god." Korra said. Though Freya was a powerful god of her people her judgment was compromised which insured her defeat much easier than it would had she been more focused.
"It was a long time ago. When the Furies couldn't touch me Ares sent the daughter of Death after me. You can see how that clearly went." Sean said.
"Are you gonna be ok?" Korra asked in concern.
"We rescue my brother...Then ask me again." Sean said.
Soon the group was outside the domain of Death's doors.
"I need to do this alone." Sean said shocking them.
"WHAT!" Turok asked in shock.
"Listen...Deimos was taken because of me so Ares could later mold me to be his servant. I need to make this right. And I need to do it alone." Sean said.
"I'm afraid he's correct on that."
Sean turned and saw a man who he hadn't seen in many, many years.
"Hello Orkos." Sean said seeing one of his friends.
"It's been a long time Kruger." Orkos said kindly.
"Uh...Care to introduce us?" Korra asked confused.
"This is Orkos...The son of Ares." Sean said shocking them. "Relax. Unlike his father Orkos is kind and peaceful." Sean said.
"Indeed. I'm afraid Sean is the only one who can enter Death's domain. The rest of you must wait outside until he returns with his brother." Orkos said as Sean opened the gates before walking inside as the doors closed.
Korra however frowned at Orkos.
"Something you wish to ask Avatar?" Orkos asked.
"How is it the son of a real monster is Sean's friend?" Korra asked bluntly.
"Korra." Tenzin said trying to calm her down.
"It's all right. I understand why she feels this way. Just because you have monster parents doesn't mean you turn out like them." Orkos said making her eyes soften.
"Why is Ares so hell bent on making Sean serve him?" Korra asked.
"You still don't know do you? Is it possible that through all the time you've known him you still know very little about him...And his Destiny." Orkos said.
"What are you talking about?" Korra asked.
"You see...Sean has a destiny far greater than you could ever imagine. However my father soon learned about this destiny and grew fearful of it. So he tried to prevent his birth." Orkos said.
"The fire. He tried to kill Sean's mother before he was born." Tenzin said.
"Correct. However the person he was named after saved her at the cost of his own life. The only thing that did in altering his destiny was change his name from Achilles to Sean. Hence why his name on the family tree was different." Orkos said.
"And why the Giants referred to him as that." Asami said.
"They know everything. After he was born Zeus had another son with his mother. Deimos. However Ares had altered the course of Sean's destiny when Deimos was taken away. While his mother had good intentions they had a negative reaction when blocking his memories. The void he felt turned to anger since in the back of his mind he knew he had lost something important. Which is what drove him to become a warrior of Sparta until the day he fought the Barbarians. All Ares doing I might add. He knew Sean valued his life and career. Thats when he struck the deal." Orkos said.
"And thats when Ares trained him." Julia said.
"Yes. However despite how drunk with power he was he would never harm his own family. When that fateful day came Sean knew he could no longer serve my father and broke off all ties with him. Thankfully Zeus took him in and trained him. Ares became worried after that since the training of one god makes anyone powerful as it is. But the training of every god of Olympus...You'd be unstoppable." Orkos said.
"But we've seen Sean get nearly beaten by people like Hercules and Ares before." Mako said.
"True but thats because he's holding back. In his mind he doesn't want innocents caught in the middle of that much power being unleashed. And people like them know it and take advantage of it. Doesn't mean he's completely easy to beat." Orkos said.
Korra frowned at all this as she looked at the door with a worried expression on her face.
Meanwhile
Sean walked past the dead bodies of those who tried to stop him.
Coming to a door Sean sighed ready to face whatever he needed to before kicking it down.
And hanging above the room was who he sought. His brother.
"Deimos." Sean said looking at his younger brother who was in chains and had his hands in metal gauntlets. Sean had also noticed the Birth mark on his body was glowing but he put that aside as he freed his brother and freed one of his arms as he landed on the ground before Sean approached him.
"Brother. You are safe now." Sean said as Deimos started laughing hysterically.
"SAFE!" Deimos roared in rage before grabbing him. "You let this happen to me. You were supposed to protect me." Deimos said enraged. "Did you think I would forget after 300 years? Did You think I would forgive?" Deimos asked.
"Deimos. You have every right to be angry with me but I..." Sean tried to say.
"ANGRY!" Deimos roared before punching him with his metal gauntlet. "I will never forgive you, Brother." Deimos.
Meanwhile
Korra and the others waited patiently before the doors opened up.
"There he should..." Tenzin tried to say before Sean flew out into a wall looking like a bloody mess shocking Korra and the others before Deimos rushed out and started beating him.
"GET UP!" Deimos roared slamming his gauntlet into him before it broke apart. "FIGHT ME!" Deimos roared before a hand grabbed him making everyone look and saw Diemos in the hands of Thanatos making Sean growl.
"YOU KILLED MY DAUGHTER, SPARTAN! And now you will suffer for it." Thanatos said before growing wings and flew off.
Sean growled as he got up but collapsed on his knees as Korra rushed to him.
"What the hell happened?" Korra asked.
"Never mind that now." Sean said taking out the Travel stone. "Stay here." Sean said before vanishing.
Deimos fought against Thanatos at a cliff as Sean flew down and used his blades. to stay on the walls before climbing to them.
"You no longer have power over me, Thanatos." Deimos said before yelling as Thanatos pushed him to the edge as he held on for dear life.
"You and your brother have caused me enough problems." Thanatos said flying away.
"I'm coming for you brother. Hold on!" Sean yelled climbing the walls faster before rushing to him and grabbed him by the arms before pulling him up.
Sean panted in exhaustion before offering him a hand making him look up at him before taking it and Sean pulled him up.
"A spartan never lets his back hit the ground. Right brother?" Deimos asked.
"Deimos I have a lot to answer for but I will not lose you again." Sean said before giving him the Leviathan Axe. "Lets finish this." Sean said as he took the axe before they rushed to where Thanatos was seeing him in a clearing as he laughed at them.
"Now I see it. Why Ares is afraid of you. The power you posses that lies hidden beneath the surface. He chose wisely when he wanted a perfect warrior. But none of that matters now. You both will die here ending the Kruger bloodline." Thanatos said confusing Deimos. "Did your brother not tell you? How he murdered your entire family in a single night."
"It wasn't like that. Ares tricked me with that mist." Sean said glaring at him making him laugh.
"I suppose...Even the Demon of Sparta has morals." Thantos said making him growl at that name. "Nevertheless you both will die. Now is the time, Krugers. The beginning of the End." Thanatos said.
Sean charged at him before wrapping his chains around him before slamming him into the walls hard making him grunt.
Deimos threw his axe at Thanatos hitting him in the shoulder making him growl before grabbing the chian and swung Sean in the air before he let go and flew down before equipping the Nemean Cestus before slamming down on him making Thanatos laugh.
"Your brother suffers because of you." Thanatos said before Deimos slammed his Axe into his side making him growl before Sean slashed the blade of Artemis on his chest making him roar.
"ENOUGH!" Thanatos roared as he took on a more monstrous form.
"OH SHIT!" Sean yelled as they dodged his attacks.
"HAHAHAHA!" Thanatos laughed before Deimos threw his axe at his eyes making him roar before Sean summoned lightning from the skies before striking him making him roar in rage before grabbing him.
"BROTHER!" Deimos yelled as Sean was smashed on the walls hard.
"DEIMOS!" Sean yelled before Deimos charged in at Thanatos and stabbed his eye making him roar before throwing him into a wall as Sean was free.
Hearing his brother groan Sean turned seeing him unmoving.
"DEIMOS!" Sean yelled before Thanatos roared at him.
"AHHHHHHHHH!" Sean roared in rage as his entire body was engulfed in red flames before striking Thanatos with extremely powerful flames making him roar in pain before he resumed his more human like form before Sean started beating him to death before slamming him into the walls making him laugh.
"Everyone you know suffers because of your existence." Thanatos mocked before Sean slammed him into another wall hard.
"HAHAHAHA! Your fate now lies in the hands of Ares." Thanatos said before Sean pulled out his blades that were engulfed in Red flames before striking him in the chest before Thanatos pulled out his own blade striking him in the chest making his armor crumble apart making him laugh.
"And now...The Kruger Bloodline ends!" Thanatos roared before he exploded in death.
Sean groaned as he pulled out the blade from his chest before collapsing.
"Sean?" Korra called out as she and the others arrived before she gasped in horror seeing him bleeding heavily before rushing to him while the others rushed to Deimos. "Sean!" Korra yelled as he groaned.
"My...Brother?" Sean asked as Asami checked for a pulse.
"He's ok. He's just knocked out." Asami said.
Sean groaned as the blood loss was catching up to him before he coughed up a blob of blood making Korra gasp as she tried to stop the bleeding as his eyes started to close.
"Sean? SEAN!" Korra yelled in worry as he blacked out.
2 days later
Sean slowly woke up finding himself in the Hospital of Republic City before seeing Korra once more next to him as she slept with her head on his chest. He could only smile at this before placing his hand on her head playing with her hair making her wake up before smiling at him.
"Honestly. I would like just for...A year for you not to get so badly injured since this relationship started." Korra said making him chuckle lightly.
"Sorry. I can't make a promise like that. Not in this career." Sean jokes making her shake her head in amusement before kissing him. "Wheres my brother?" Sean asked.
"He's ok. He was cleared to leave this morning. He's waiting on the island. I think considering you got him back we should be celebrating." Korra said grinning making him smile.
"I wouldn't mind that." Sean said.
Later
Everyone was celebrating their victory over Ares and the Death of Thanatos.
"I guess now we should call you the god Slayer." Asami teased.
"Don't do that." Sean said annoyed making her and everyone else laugh before Turok and Reznov began some foreign dance making everyone laugh harder.
"Fucking idiots." Julia said rubbing her head.
"You know you love us for this." Reznov said making her roll her eyes.
Sean of course went outside seeing his brother with a drink in hand.
"You ok?" Sean asked.
"Yes. I still can't believe Mother and the others are gone. Ares will pay for what he's done to us." Deimos said.
"In time yes. But I'm content with what I have right now. So where you gonna stay. I'm sure Jinora and the kids would love having you here." Sean said.
"About that." Deimos said making Sean sigh.
"Your not staying are you?" Sean asked already knowing the answer.
"No. I lost 300 years because of Ares and Thanatos. Staying in Greek Territory isn't the best place for me right now." Deimos said.
"I guess I can't blame you for that. If your gonna travel the world go to Midgard first. I spent over 10 years there enjoying everything it had to offer." Sean said.
"I'll keep that in mind." Deimos said as Sean went back inside.
Next morning
Sean sighed as he sat in the practice arena on the island as his brother left last night.
"You okay?" Korra asked sitting next to him.
"Yeah. I'm sad he's not staying but...Knowing he's alive and enjoying the world. I can live with that." Sean said before she kissed him.
"You saved him. I'm sure he's thankful for that. Your not alone anymore." Korra said.
"As long as I have you in my life. Thats all I need." Sean said making her smile as they enjoyed the peace and quiet.
