Chapter 14
We have to be careful
Donna dressed up as fast as she could, grabbed her bag, and rushed to college.
Meanwhile, Rachel was having a conversation with Harvey before walking into class.
"Professor Specter, can I talk to you for a minute?" Rachel was shaking. She didn't know how to talk to him.
"Sure... what is it about?" he asked, unsure why his student wanted to talk to him.
"It's about Do— Paulsen," Rachel corrected herself.
"What about her? Where is she? She has to take an exam."
"I know... she didn't hear the alarm, but— " Rachel couldn't finish.
"She's on her way here?" he asked seriously.
"Yes…," she answered.
"Tell her I can give her 5 more minutes. If she's not here by then, I must start the class without her." As soon as he said that, he left the hallway where Rachel and he were talking.
She started to freak out. Looking at Harvey and then looking at the front door. Looking at Harvey and then looking at the front door.
"I'm here, I'm here!" Donna yelled, running towards her.
"Jeez, Donna! Next time put on a damn speaker!" Donna just laughed as they both got into the class. She gave Harvey a quick smile and then she sat down.
...
After the exam, Donna had three more classes, and then she was free. She was about to go home when she received a text message. She read it while she was still walking through the halls with Mike and Rachel.
"Come to my office." ~ Harvey
Donna tried to contain her happiness. "I have to do something... see you at home, okay?" she said, turning around.
"Wait, what? What do you have to do?" Rachel asked, knowing she was probably going to see Harvey. Donna didn't answer. She just went on her way.
"Is there something I'm missing?" Mike asked, confused.
"Just something between Donna and me. Come one Pretty, I'm starving." Rachel grabbed her boyfriend's arm, and they both went home together.
...
"Mr. Specter, what happened?" Donna said, walking into his room and closing the door.
"I have your exam. You passed with 90%. Congrats, Miss Paulsen." Harvey was smiling at her. "I'm proud."
"Oh my god, thank you!" She was about to throw herself into his arms, but before she could, he stepped back.
"Not here, Donna," he whispered. She turned back around and locked the door.
"Done." she smiled and tried to hug him again.
"Seriously, Donna..." He walked to his chair and sat down. "I will see you later," Harvey said, focused on some papers.
"It's just a hug, it's not a big deal!" He didn't look at her. She sighed and left the room.
...
Donna's mind was racing. She understood Harvey's concerns, of course she did. It was risky. But she also just wanted to hug her boyfr... Harvey.
Donna is dreaming of the moment when they don't have to hide anymore. Keeping their relationship a secret, even for just a couple of days was already blowing her mind. Lying to Rachel, to Marcus, not being able to be with him anywhere she wants to... she just has to get used to that. She will get used to that... Won't she?
Unlocking her front door, she was met with a dark room and creepy noises coming from the living room.
"DON'T GO IN THERE!" Rachel was suddenly screaming. She must be watching a Horror movie with Mike.
"You know she will go in there," Mike said, putting his arm around his girlfriend.
"Hey... everything ok?" Rachel turned around when she heard the sound of the door closing.
"Perfect," Donna replied, clenching her teeth, and then she locked herself in her bedroom.
"Stop the movie, I'll be right back." Rachel stood up and approached Donna's room. "Can you let me in? Can we talk?"
"I don't want to talk, Rachel. Just leave it, please." The brunette could hear the sadness in Donna's voice.
"Okay... just tell me if you need anything..."
"I will, thank you."
Donna wasn't angry at Harvey, she was angry at the situation. The main problem was that things wouldn't change for almost a year. She had only two options now... learn to deal with it or break things off. She didn't want to do the last one, of course. She liked Harvey so much and whenever she sees him, her heart beats erratically, her hands shake, and she can't think about anything else but kissing him.
...
"Hey... how are you? Do you want to come over tonight? I miss you." ~ Harvey
Donna read the message.
"Are you okay?" ~ Harvey
Donna read the message.
"Is it about today? I'm sorry, I was just scared someone would see us." ~ Harvey
Donna read the message.
"Now I'm starting to worry... just tell me if you are okay. We can talk about it tonight." ~ Harvey
Donna read the message.
"I'm coming to your house!" ~ Harvey
"Donna?" ~ Harvey
Donna read the message.
Harvey grabbed his keys and went to Donna's house. Being covert wasn't the main problem now, he just wanted to make sure she was okay.
...
Some minutes later, he got there and rang the doorbell.
"Hello... is everything okay?" Rachel asked, completely confused about Harvey's presence at her house.
"Yes... I just... is Donna here?" He stammered, making it obvious how nervous he was.
"Why?" She wouldn't let their Professor in without a reasonable explanation. Of course she knew something was happening between him and her best friend, but she also knew why they decided to break things off the other time.
"She isn't answering my messages and I... I just...," he was stumbling over his words. He didn't know what to say. There was no reasonable excuse for him to be there... Actually, there was, he just couldn't say it.
Mike joined them at the door, completely at a loss why Professor Specter was there. Why was he looking for Donna?
Maybe Harvey going to Donna's house was a rushed decision. He just couldn't think straight when it came to her.
Rachel could see his hands sweating and the lump forming in his throat. "First door on the left."
"Thank you so much." He smiled tightly at her and went straight to Donna's bedroom. Even if she was physically okay, he knew she was sad because of what happened.
"Hey... it's me, Harvey... can I come in?" He asked as he knocked, but no one answered. "Can we talk?" Silence. He tried to open the door but—
"She locked herself in..." Rachel explained from behind him.
"What is he doing here?" Mike whispered to Rachel, still not understanding what was going on.
"Ask Donna... I can't tell you Honey, I'm sorry..." Rachel said caressing his cheek. Not even she really knew what was going on.
"Donna," Harvey said, knocking on the door again. "Please, open up." He knocked louder.
Donna heard some noises from outside her room that woke her up. It was Harvey's voice. Donna immediately stood up and opened the door. Seeing him standing there made her freeze for a few seconds.
"What are you doing here?" she asked confused and with a sleepy voice. Her eyes were slanted.
"You weren't answering my texts... I got worried." He was almost embarrassed about being so protective and scared.
"I was sleeping," she replied, rubbing her eyes.
"But it said that you had read them..."
"I probably left our chat open."
"I thought you were mad," he said, resting his head on the wall.
"I'm not mad at you... I'm mad about the whole situation. You are the good part, Harvey. You make this whole thing worth it." She smiled.
Harvey was at a loss for words, so he just hugged her.
"I think I'm getting it now..." Mike said looking at both of them.
"Come one, let's leave them alone." Rachel grabbed his arm and took him to the living room.
A/N: Thank you for reading. Hope you liked it.
