Pokémon Season 6: Mysterious Adventures E12: Complex Pokémon
Brock leads Ash and Misty back to the Pokémon Center as they are glued to their papers looking through their classes.
(Individual classes for any Pokémon element of your choice from I-IV), Pokémon Biology, Pokémon Chemistry, Study of Breeding, Pokémon Fighting I-IV, Position on the Battlefield, History of Pokémon, Rodding, History of Clans, History of Battle, Pokémon Health, Pokéfood Studies, Politics, Pokémon Communications, Study of Evolution, Modern World Studies, Pokémon Cosmology...
All of the classes had I-IV next to them, indicating you could take four years of that class and be fully ready to pick a profession in that field.
"So, should we meet back there tomorrow and give them our classes?" Ash asked.
"Yep, we'll just need to submit it soon so they can put us in our classes that we choose," Brock said.
"I'll for sure take a Water Pokémon class, that'll help a lot. Pokéfood Studies kind of sounds boring though," Misty said.
"I don't know, it sounds kind of fun," Brock said.
"Eh," Ash said.
"We should probably go train some more with Magikarp," Brock said.
"We could probably get that kind of training in school, though, right?" Ash said.
"Yeah, but it'd be much better if you just already had it," Brock said.
"You're right..." Ash said.
Ash and Brock went to the beach to continue their training. Misty went to explore further into the city. The city seemed a lot more bright and vibrant during the day. Lots of people were walking around with briefcases. She walked into the Pokémon Center and eventually into her room. She sat on her bed and rested her back against the wall the bed was facing. Togepi tapped her shoulder and pointed towards the ceiling.
"Not now, Togepi, I'm tired," Misty said, rubbing her eyes.
A large meteor started spiraling towards the hotel. It was a mold of fiery red and orange blazing through the air. Misty rubbed her eyes again in disbelief. The meteor continued spiraling towards the town and into the Earth around them.
"TOGEPI HIT THE DECK!" Misty shouted, she grabbed Togepi and jumped beneath the bed. The meteor crashed into the ground and sent a massive shockwave all around them. The sound was so loud Misty couldn't hear for about ten seconds. Her ears were ringing violently.
"What was that?!" Misty said. She got up and grabbed Togepi. The entire hotel room had debris and rubble all over the place from the ceiling and things crashing. The glass window outside, leading into the outside world, was smashed entirely. People were screaming and honking outside. People ran around, and massive fires began to spread almost everywhere. Something escaped from the meteor. Three large shadow figures appeared from the dust smoking all around the city. They floated in the air, transcending, looking like a shadow of a person. They quickly spiraled into the large crowd of people and the streets.
"Did you see that Togepi? I think this attack was purposeful," Misty said. She grabbed her bag and ran out the door. The entire Pokémon Center was in terrible condition. There was debris and rocks everywhere; trainers were running around, not knowing what to do. Misty shoved through the crowds inhaling some of the smoke. She coughed violently as she slid down the stairs to the bottom floor. She held her arm in front of her face to try to avoid the smoke and dust. Outside, people were screaming in terror and contacting authorities. Police officers and firefighters escorted people into safer locations, and cars blocked the roads. There was a gaping hole in the streets. People were crying; some people laid dead on the ground. The three shadows came back together next to the gaping hole.
"Life is changing forever," Misty muttered under her breath.
The three shadows that initially emerged from the meteor went back to the gaping hole it had created and transcended into the air in a group of three. Misty clutched Togepi in her arms, trying not to get knocked over while people were running past her. She stood dead still in the crowd observing the shadows transcend further into the air.
"We refuse to be defeated by pure mortals; we are taking over these lands one way or another," one the shadows said in a demonic tone. They flew further up into the air.
Three men came towards the area. It was Sartai, Raigeki, and 5pq. Sartai released a Pidgeot into the air.
"Follow him, now," Sartai commanded. Sartai's voice was like nothing Misty had ever heard before. It had a metallic tone in it while sounding like a robot. It was incredibly profound and boomed through the air.
Pidgeot flew into the air, instantly seeming like it disappeared from existence. Pidgeot flew further into the air until it was no longer visible; the shadows had disappeared.
"We'll get him next time Sartai, this shits impossible," 5pq said.
"We-" Sartai rubbed his face.
Everything in Misty's vision became nauseating. Her entire idea of reality began to swirl and spiral until it was impossible to see anything going on. It was a mush of colors. She felt like she was going to fall off the face of the Earth, and gravity began to flip. She opened her eyes. She was lying on her bed in the Pokémon Center. She quickly looked around in all directions. Her head swiped over everything, scanning the room. She was still nauseated from experience.
"No way, there's no way, there's just no way," Misty said. She got up and began circling the room. Togepi was sleeping peacefully on the pillow.
"These dreams are too real; how would anyone be able to distinguish between that and reality? Is anything real?!" Misty shouted. Togepi woke up and jumped below the bed frame.
"Sorry, Togepi, didn't mean to scare you," Misty said and picked Togepi up. "What time is it…" Misty said. She picked up the digital clock next to her bed. 4:31
"How is it already 4:31?! I was asleep for like 15 minutes!" Misty said. There was a knock at the door.
"What's up?" Brock asked. He entered the room with Ash.
"I- I had a bad dream. I've been having those ever since we did the stupid haunted house," Misty said.
"Oh, well, me and Ash just came to check in on you. We're thinking about just eating at the hotel tonight," Brock said.
"Yeah, gotta take advantage of the inexpensive hotel food, I guess," Misty said. She cracked her knuckles. Misty looked out the window one more time to check if there were any signs of anything strange happening. Nothing. Cars bustled down the streets, packed as always.
"You okay Misty?" Brock said, grabbing a water bottle from the fridge.
"Yep! Yep. Fine," Misty said.
"Okay, see ya at dinner, let's meet at 6," Brock said.
"Sounds good," Brock and Ash both left the room, leaving Misty to herself.
"We're alone again, Togepi," she picked up Togepi and held her between her arms. She left the room so she couldn't fall asleep again. She started walking through the streets again.
"Maybe we could try to catch a Pokémon Togepi," Misty said. Togepi chirped happily. Misty walked down to the beach. The sun shined brightly upon it, and there was a large carnival next to it that made a lot of noise. The sound of the water hitting the sand was so relaxing, like complete tranquility of nature in itself. She cupped her hands in the shape of binoculars and looked out far into the sea.
"Can't see anything yet, maybe we can go tomorrow with Ash and Brock and get a boat. That'd probably be a good learning opportunity," Misty said.
There were some boats and kayaks far out into the ocean. One looked to be the size of a cruise ship she had been on a while ago. She just sat on the sand and watched the view. Togepi sat next to her, digging a hole into the sand. The sight reminded her of her childhood, what life used to be. The waves splashed around outside, and the sky became dim to a cloud going above the sun. Everything began to cool off for a bit until the cloud moved away. She saw something eventually moving far out into the distance.
"What's that?!" Misty said. She stood up and pointed. However, she knew no one was there to see her, and she was only talking to Togepi. The thing far in the distance looked to be a Dragonite, but it was too far away to make any assumptions. She gazed out at the mysterious Pokémon far out there.
"Ah, I see you've found Sartai's Dragonite," said a voice in the distance.
"What?" Misty turned around quickly. Togepi jumped into her arms. A man stood next to her. He wore a white bandana and had greasy black hair. His entire skin was tan, and he wore completely black clothing. His wide eyes stared off into the distance.
"Who are you?" Misty asked.
"I am Endeq," said the man.
"Endeq? That's a cool name," Misty said.
"Thank you, what's your name?" Endeq asked.
"Misty," Misty replied.
Endeq didn't respond, however. He looked off into the distance gazing at Sartai's Dragonite.
"You see, that's Sartai. He's in the organization I'm in. He's a good member; I would even consider him to be one of the best. His mesmerizing movement and complete peace with the game is what wins him most of his battles. I've never even beat him myself," Endeq said.
"You're a part of the Soul organization?" Misty asked.
Endeq chuckled, "Misty, I'm not just a part of it. I'm the owner."
The… owner... right before my eyes, Misty gazed into Endeq's large eyes.
Endeq sat on the sand next to Misty.
"The organization's name is Soulburn; everyone just calls it Soul though," Endeq said.
"Does anyone know Sartai's true identity?" Misty asked.
"Few know who Sartai is or how he came to be. Some theorize he apparated. Sartai rarely speaks, and the news media has been attempting to get him to. They harass him constantly. During our meets, he never talks but talks through the delicate placement and movement of his Pokémon," Endeq said. He picked up grains of sand and let it fall between his fingers.
"But- why are you telling me this?" Misty asked.
"I can sense wisdom in younger individuals; you're a Pokémon trainer, correct?" Endeq asked.
"Yes, sir," Misty said.
"I can sense that," Endeq said.
"Wow, do you know anything else about Sartai?" Misty asked.
"I'm afraid that Sartai is a mysterious figure not even confined to the boundaries of battle or even Earth. Sartai's such a wonderful trainer that his existence's idea is such pure non-reality to everything we know as humans are strange. His battle techniques are so incredibly indescribable and like nothing I have ever seen in my life," Endeq said. Endeq gazed further out into the endless ocean. He sighed.
"I'll never forget that day he applied to the Soul. He didn't put a name onto the application or anything. He just… said a time to meet him. I met him with my Co-Owner, 5pq. We went to see him at a small park not too far from here. 5pq battled first. 5pq is one of the greatest battlers I ever knew. Sartai smoked him. 5pq couldn't even see the battlefield before his first Pokémon was completely gone. 5pq only beat one of his Pokémon." Endeq went to sit up and gazed again into Sartai's Dragonite.
"I went next; I popped out three Pokémon vs. his three. I was a foolish man. I expected him to be simple. He beat me. I was much younger then, but I've gained wisdom. We're best friends now. We rarely talk, however. We talk through the motion of our battle. I think that's how Sartai expresses himself. He's a good man. I've rarely seen him any other place other than the Amadeus Gym, our headquarters, and right here, by the ocean."
"Where are your headquarters?"
"We can't tell you, Misty."
"Why not?" Misty asked.
"Not everyone likes the Soul guild—some hope for nothing more but complete control of the world. We fight off those people frequently," Endeq said calmly. "If that information gets out, the fate of the entire world could be at stake."
"Wow, I didn't know…" Misty said.
They both stared in silence at the Dragonite as it flew far away.
"Who are you, Endeq?" Misty asked, glancing towards him.
"I do not exist in any single plane of reality. I am but a speck of dust floating through the wind. I may move where I want and go where I please, but I'm confined to Earth. I may lead Soul, but I lead myself in whatever direction I can and suits me best. I phase out of existence but not forever," Endeq said calmly.
Endeq picked a compass out of his pocket and slapped it as hard as he could. It shattered into bits of glass, and an incredibly bright yellow light emerged from the compass. He apparated into dust through the yellow light and disappeared entirely from his existence. He didn't even leave a hole in the sand where he stood. Misty kept gazing at Sartai's Dragonite. Sartai was riding it at limits that looked like it broke the sound barrier.
"Thank you. Endeq," Misty said. She knew he wasn't there. But he was.
Misty sat at the dinner table in their small room next to Ash and Brock. Ash picked at his salad, sitting on the small plate next to him.
"So, what'd you guys do when we split up?" Brock asked.
"Well, I went to this Pokémon Gym, not like the Amadeus Gym, though. It was like an actual gym, like for humans. It had weights and different fields, and there were a lot of trainers there. I was hoping to pick up some information, but I couldn't get any. All those people had earbuds in and didn't seem to want to talk," Ash said.
"Nice, what'd you do, Misty?" Brock asked.
"I went to the beach and tried to catch a Gyarados, no luck, though," Misty said.
"Oh, I went to this one restaurant and got some snacks and other things," Brock said.
"What kind?" Ash asked.
"Eh, just peanuts and other nice foods, reminds me of Pewter," Brock said. Brock sniffled. It had never been an easy subject to talk about. "Moving on! What're we going to do when our membership to this place expires?"
"Well, we'll cross that bridge when we come there," Ash stuck his fork into a tomato.
"I guess, let's just hope we'll be okay," Misty said.
"Let's hope," Ash had cleared his plate. He stacked it next to the pile Brock started to keep their kitchen cleaner. Ash went to watch TV.
"When does your job start again, Misty?" Brock asked.
"Tuesday, that's in three days, I hope it won't be difficult," Misty said.
"I doubt it; you're just a newbie. They won't make it annoying or anything probably," Brock said.
"Yeah, that's true, it's just a bakery. I couldn't imagine it being anything too ridiculous," Misty said.
It was later that night. They were about to fall asleep, but Brock suggested they went on an evening walk for no specific reason. The colors of the night were still just as beautiful and awe-inspiring to them as they had been the first night. They eventually walked out of the central part of the city. They were in the desert where they had been when they started.
"Where are we going, Brock?" Ash asked.
"I heard there was a nice view of something during this time. It happens weekly, and it's one of the biggest events in the city," Brock said.
"Like… a Pokémon thing?" Ash asked. Pikachu tapped his shoulder and pointed up towards a large stadium. The whole stadium was beautifully illuminated all around and transcended light entirely in all directions. The stadium had a sizeable grim reaper logo on it like the one Sartai, and 5pq wore on the back of their shirt. The entire circle the emblem was in was put in a fiery blue background that moved with LED changing lights. The stadium was just on the outskirts of the city and close to the bridge.
"How did we not see this?!" Misty gasped.
"I have no clue," Ash said.
"Probably because it was barely illuminated, or perhaps it blends in with the buildings and is only illuminated at night during Saturdays," Brock suggested.
"How'd you get tickets, Brock?" Ash said. He rubbed his eyes. He was tired.
"Well, before we left Pallet, I saw on the website that we could print out free tickets if it was our first time going to this stadium. I'm pretty surprised they let us do that. We can also go next time if we want; I got three more free tickets," Brock said. He handed Misty and Ash a ticket.
Misty looked down at the intricate design of the ticket. It had a grim reaper logo on it just like the ones Sartai and 5pq wore on the back of their shirts. It had a fiery outline all around it, and the entire ticket illuminated blue.
They walked into the enormous stadium. Misty and Ash handed their tickets back to Brock. Brock gave access to the people working there.
"Wow, is this going to be a Pokémon battle, Brock?" Ash asked.
"Yep, tonight's big battle is Raigeki vs. Daciy," Brock said.
"Daciy?" Misty said.
"Yep, they're members of Soul too. Soul hosts these cool tournaments, and they do cool Pokémon battles in them. Some of these battles are extremely important to the history of the best players and are almost historic and significant in history's timeline.
"Wow," Misty and Ash both said.
They walked through the second hallway of the massive stadium into their seats. The stadium was an open stadium and completely massive with a field so large it would take a fair amount of time to even walk to either side. The area was a grass type field, and the stadium had large lights casting bright onto the field. There was a large timer next to either side dictating when the match was going to start. "15:34 until the match starts!" it said, illuminated into the screen. Brock bought some popcorn while they were waiting and poured it into smaller cups to share. The match eventually started.
From one side of the field was Raigeki, who came out of a large garage. Raigeki had a black cape with a red circle on the back. Daciy came from the other corner. She had bright pink hair with a red blanket wrapped around her shoulders.
"Fun fact, Daciy is one of the only girls in the Soul guild! She's also beautiful…" Brock said.
"Her name kind of sounds like daisy," Misty chuckled.
Daciy and Raigeki popped out a single Pokémon.
"The battle is a one Pokémon match," Brock said.
"Wait, if it's a one Pokémon match, how can it last for any time at all?" Ash asked.
"I think you're underestimating how good these players are, Ash; I bet this single battle will take at least an hour. This is mainly the reason that Soul only does tournaments like capture the flag. Almost any non-soul member can't beat them in just a normal match. I'd still consider it impossible to beat them," Brock said. Moments later, an announcer came to announce the beginning of the match.
"Today, folks, we have a real treat for you all. We have Daciy, one of the strongest female competitors globally and someone who has received seven badges in the Oplux league, and the gym leader Raigeki, leader of the Railed Gym. This battle is going to be a treat. Daciy's extremely complex and hard to follow movement with her Venusaur and Raigeki's amazing aim and ability to win trades when battling with Tentacool will make this battle legendary. No one can truly decide who will win this match, folks!"
The announcer stood down from his pedestal as a different announcer came onto the field. People around in the crowd placed bets on the winner of the match, writing these on paper, and some even pulled out notebooks to study the game and what moves people use.
"The match will begin in 10 seconds," said a robotic voice. The mic boomed throughout the audience. "3… 2… 1… Begin."
Tentacool lunged forward right into the battle. The entire time it was lunging, it struck its tiny legs attempting to hit Daciy's Venusaur. Venusaur didn't care and tanked the hits. Venusaur launched itself forward, attempting to hit Tentacool but was unsuccessful. Venusaur pulled out its vine whip and tried to smash the Pokémon with its vines. They eventually did about a minute long dance of hitting each other with their vines or their legs.
"What's this, Brock?" Ash asked.
"This is extremely difficult to learn technique the master's call 'rodding,' basically, they're just attempting to hit each other with the blows, and as soon as the Pokémon senses the other has lost focus they lunge in for an attack, almost all trainers in Soul pick Pokémon that can 'rod' so they can have an undue advantage in the battlefield," Brock said. He was overly caught into the battle.
Venusaur hit Tentacool with its rod. Tentacool flinched, and Venusaur jumped onto Tentacool as fast as some as Sartai's Pokémon. Tentacool was pinned down and slapped a couple of times with Venusaur's vine whip and was eventually thrown up into the air and took lots of hits from the fall. Venusaur was rodding the whole time. Tentacool fell several feet and almost traveled above the stadium but got up. It was ready to continue. Eventually, through a spur of light, it evolved mid-match. It was now Tentacruel.
"Wow, they evolved mid-match?" Misty said.
"Yep, most of these Pokémon trainers for at least 12 hours a day, and they can practically evolve on command. They communicate psychically through telepathic waves so the trainers can focus harder on their moves. They've been trained for years to understand what their trainer wants simply by facial expressions," Brock said.
"And Daciy still isn't in the Oplux league?" Ash said.
"Not yet," Brock said.
"Damn! I knew the competition would be hard, but wow," Ash said, starstruck.
This battle continued for several minutes of straight rodding, each Pokémon tanking the damage. Eventually, Tentacruel sensed Venusaur lose focus, and after Venusaur missed a couple of rods, it went into the attack. Tentacruel shot a large water beam in four directions, instantly missing each shot barely, but Venusaur had lost focus. Tentacruel jumped in for the attack and tackled Venusaur. It later blasted it far into the sky, pushing it above the limits of the stadium.
A moderator shined the light on Venusaur to track its location. Venusaur fell several hundred feet and eventually back onto the grass of the field. It got right back up but looked severely weakened.
"How?!" Misty and Ash both exclaimed.
The crowd cheered. "What an amazing play by Daciy," the announcer screamed. Eventually, they were back to rodding. The rodding was incredibly mesmerizing, and each one looked extraordinarily delicate and calculated. Daciy missed a couple of rods, and Venusaur attempted to go in for the attack. Venusaur instantly shoved its way into the battlefield aiming for Daciy. Daciy's Pokémon practically teleported back into the air. They both stumbled back onto the battlefield.
"How do they have so much health?!" Ash said.
"They take endurance training. They know how to fight even when they're at 0 health. They eventually charge up their energy and lose most energy for the next couple of days, but this is how Pokémon battles work out here," Brock said.
"Geez Brock, you know a lot about this," Misty said.
"Sure do, I've always wanted to go to Oplux secretly," Brock chuckled.
Venusaur dug far into the ground. Tentacruel sat entirely still with its eyes closed and tentacles on its face. It was sensing where Venusaur was. Tentacruel stuck it's tentacle far into the dirt, shoving it instantly through and picked up Venusaur. It held it down with its rods and hyper beamed the Pokémon into the stadium's padded wall. The entire stadium shook. Venusaur was utterly knocked out. It attempted to get back up and stood.
"Venusaur's low on health, I doubt Raigeki can clutch this," Brock said.
The crowd erupted in the stadium. Fans were cheering, booing, doing what they pleased. Raigeki looked so focused on the battlefield that he didn't even notice he was playing for almost 100,000 spectators who came around the world to see the game. Venusaur got up and shot a solar beam at Tentacruel. Tentacruel attempted to dodge it, but the shaft was too broad. It hit Tentacruel with a direct hit. Tentacruel didn't even move. It stood right in its position with its tentacles nailed far into the dirt. It was impossible now to hear the announcer and the announcer even had to repeat himself.
"This is one of the first direct hit Solar Beams we've seen in a long time, folks! What a game!"
Tentacruel hit the dirt. Both Pokémon looked so incredibly tired and were trudging through the fields of grass, attempting to rod each other. Eventually, Tentacruel fell after one final rod by Raigeki.
"The winner of this round is Raigeki!" the announcer shouted. He sounded just as excited as the audience.
Raigeki went back into the field with what looked like two of his friends, and Daciy went back into the garage alone. Misty looked back at Ash and Brock. They both looked so tired.
"I told you Venusaur would win Brock!" Ash shouted happily.
"What a twist of fate. I had my money on Tentacruel," Brock said.
They got up out of their seats and traveled back to the Pokémon Center. It was their last night. As they stumbled past the people trying to leave the stadium and soon down the sidewalk, Misty gazed far into the stars. They were much harder to see because of the big city lights, but they were comprehensive and transparent for her. One thing was for sure, though, Soulburn was not kidding around.
