Anna watched the wizards celebrate. To ordinary muggles, they all looked like a bunch of crazies, wearing the strange robes and talking in excited tones about how You-Know-Who had been defeated.

Gen was curled up on the windowsill beside her, her eyes starting to close as her head leaned against the glass plane.

The majority of the wizards out celebrating tonight didn't know what they had lost. They didn't know the Potters like they had, even though Anna had known them for such a short amount of time.

"Do you think Harry'll be okay?" It was the first words she had spoken in hours.

"Dumbledore knows what he's doing." Was all that Gen answered, but Anna couldn;t quite find peace with that. She wanted to see the little boy, make sure that he would be happy with his Muggle Aunt and Uncle.

The clock struck two. The moon shone bright overhead, and Anna realised that today was Halloween. Or would that be considered yesterday?

Downstairs a door opened. Anna shot to her feet, but turned around when she realised that Gen wasn't following.

"You go ahead." Gen managed to crack a smile. "I'll catch up with you."

Anna gave her friend a sad smile, and hugged her quickly, before running out the guest room and down the stairs. Sirius was there, waiting for her. She ran into his arms, pulling him into a hug that they both so desperately needed. No words were exchanged, they didn't need to. They understood exactly how they felt.

Anna's cheeks were wet when she looked up at last, loosening her tight grip around Sirius. His eyes were red, and Anna reached up, using her thumb to brush away a stray tear from his face. "I'm sorry."

Sirius swallowed, nodded, and Anna led him to the couch, letting him sit down beside her. Sirius lay his head on her lap, and Anna gently ran her hands through his long soft hair.

"I was too late." He finally said, his voice hoarse. "He'd gotten them both."

"And Harry?" Anna asked, half afraid to ask the question.

"Hagrid came. He insisted on taking him, even though I'm his godfather. He took him to the Dursleys.." Sirius rubbed his eyes, looking exhausted.

"They...They were saying that Harry defeated Volde- You-know-who." Anna switched guiltily when Sirius flinched at the mention of his name. The man who had taken everything from Sirius in a night. Almost everything.

"He did. The Avada Kedavra, killing curse, backfired and hit him. Voldemort." Sirius sat up straight and looked at the window. "They're calling him The Boy Who Lived."

The celebrations were still in full swing, despite the hour. Anna leaned her head against Sirius's shoulder, entwining her hand in his. She wasn't sure who fell asleep first, but they lay there for many hours, undisturbed.

Morning came at last.

Gen had left a note, saying that she had gone out, and would be back sometime in the evening. Anna had studied it, and eventually decided that like all of them, Gen needed space.

Sirius was still asleep on the couch, and Anna had decided, in her half asleep state, that she would do the one thing that made her feel better. Bake.

She had just taken her chocolate cookies out of the oven when Sirius appeared, his hair tousled and his grey eyes dull with sleep.

"Hey." She said, smiling at him, and Sirius leaned down to kiss her cheek, reaching around her to grab a cookie while she wasn't looking.

"Those are still hot!" She protested as Sirius took a bite out of it.

"I need to have as many as I can." He told her seriously. "I'm going to miss these."

Anna twisted around to look at him. "What do you mean?"

Sirius looked deep in thought for a moment, as if choosing his words. "Peter, I'm going to go find him."

"And then what?" Cookies were forgotten, and Anna turned around to face Sirius properly.

"Make him pay." Sirius looked her straight in the eyes, his gaze pleading, "He betrayed them, Anna. I need to do this."

There was no elaboration on what this was. Anna swallowed heavily, folding her arms around her stomach. "Okay." She said slowly.

Sirius blinked, looking surprised that she hadn't disagreed.

"Really?"

"Really." Anna nodded, crossing the short distance between the two, and looking up at Sirius. "On one condition."

"Yes?

"You are to come right back. Okay? Promise me that you'll come back."

Sirius pressed a kiss to her lips, "I promise."

"Good." Anna whispered quietly, kissing him again. It was short and sweet, and conveyed all the things she wanted to say, but didn't have the words for.

He left not ten minutes later, and it was only then that she dared to finally break down, and cry.
