Victor and Valentino: Why The Long Face?

"Can't believe Charlene made do all that crud." Victor muttered as he and Valentino trudged through the woods one cool, dark night.

"I'm more worried about how mad Grandma will be when she finds out we're up at this hour." Val said.

"You know she's asleep around this time." Vic scoffed nonchalantly.

"You're funeral, I guess." Val replied with a sigh.

The continued through the dark thicket with their flashlights lighting the way. Val was getting a little unnerved and while he didn't want to admit it out loud, Vic was getting a little unsettled himself. Just then, their flashlights flickered out.

"Vic, I thought I told you to change the batteries!" Val scolded.

"I thought you did!" He shot back.

They paused for a moment and it took them a second to realize that they both forgot to change their flashlights' batteries.

"Well, that's just great!" The elder brother griped. "We're lost in the woods in the middle of the night."

"Well, we can't be far from town now." The younger brother said as he continued walking forward.

"Vic, wait! Something-"

He was cut when Victor accidentally stubbed his toe on a rock.

"-like that would happen."

After recovering from that, the two slowly and carefully pressed on, their only source of light being the dim moon. However, in the middle of their walk, something caught Val's eye. He squinted and he could make out the shape of a woman wandering through the woods.

"Val, what's the hold up?" Vic complained.

"It looks like she's lost." Valentino said. "We gotta help."

"Ugh, fine." Victor groaned begrudgingly.

With that, they walked up to the woman.

"Excuse us, Miss. Are you lost?" Val asked.

She didn't say anything. She just silently turned around, but they couldn't see her face due to the darkness. It was at that moment, they realized something.

"Wait, Val. Don't our phones have lights?" Victor said.

"Why didn't I think of that?" Val groaned in realization. "Hold on, Miss."

With that, the boys pulled out their phones an turned on the lights. When they did, they immediately regretted that. The light reveal that the woman's face was that of a horse's skull as they stared into her empty eye sockets. The boys screamed in horror and they booked it out of there as fast as they could with no intent on stopping until they reached town. As they bolted off, the lady sighed sadly.

"Not again" She lamented. "Every time."
