Chapter 16:

Blaine:

I'm not nervous per-say. I am a football star and I am used to being in the public eye. Okay, maybe I'm nervous about singing to a bunch of strangers who will surely judge my talent. We were backstage at sectionals waiting for our turn and I couldn't believe I was freaking out about something like this.

"Are you nervous sweetie?" Kurt popped up out of nowhere and put a hand on my shoulder, massaging it a little.

"Nope. Not nervous. Just chilling. Pregaming." He didn't look convinced. "Hey, you could have a boyfriend that does weird things like Jeff singing Beyoncé before every game, and let me tell you, he can't sing. Or I could be like David and light incense or Wes kissing his gavel three times. He doesn't think we know, but we do."

"Why does he have a gav- you know what, never mind. Sweetie, its okay to be nervous." I side-eyed him and turned forward to see the Warblers finishing their last song.

"Has anyone ever died on stage?" He laughed slightly. "Okay, you can judge me now."

"I think it's adorable you're this nervous. I think you're adorable." I blushed and grabbed his hand.

"It's my first time singing in front of a crowd. Let alone a solo." Kurt put his hand on my cheek and smiled at me.

"You'll do great. You are an amazing singer and an amazing performer."

"Thanks, babe." I pull him into my chest and kissed him. It was a quick, but sweet kiss. When I pulled back, I looked over at the stage and noticed a familiar face.

Damn. Sebastian Smythe. We hooked up sophomore year, back when I was going through a prep school boys phase. The last time Kurt met an ex, he went off and if I know Sebastian, he would egg him on. I quickly grabbed Kurt's hand.

"Hey babe, you wanna go back here and make out a bit?" Kurt looked at me like I was about to explode.

"Honey, I know your nervous, but we are about to go on." The Warblers were taking their bows.

"Well, let's go practice some parts I'm not sure on."

"It's too late to practice, we are literally about to go on." Kurt looked exasperated. They were starting to walk off they stage.

"Ow! Ow, ow, ow!"

"What's wrong?"

"My ankle, it hurts! I think I hurt it!"

"Oh no! We need to tell Mr. Schue."

"No! No, I just need to rest over there." I drug him over to a bench toward the back of the stage and away from the sea of navy blazers. Crisis averted. Nice one, Anderson.

"It's not swollen." I looked away from the exiting Warblers back to Kurt.

"Oh, yeah it's fine now. Must be nerves you know?" I smiled my best smile and Kurt just gave me a reproachful look.

"You are more dramatic than me." Kurt got up and walked over to our group. I joined him, catching Mr. Schue giving a speech about coming together. I tuned it out 'cause I was too busy staring at Kurt's ass.

"From Lima, Ohio, The New Directions!" The announcer spoke over the speakers. It was time. No going back. We all walked on stage to deliver our performance. While singing, I caught a glimpse of Sebastian smirking off stage. I hoped he didn't recognize me. Kurt would be seriously pissed if Sebastian started hitting on me. Wait, a possessive Kurt might not be so bad...

Kurt:

I wish this song would end so we can get to Blaine's solo. I want to hear his voice and pretend he's singing to me. What's he looking at?

Mike:

One and two and three and four and five and flourish... and back to one...

Brittany:

Mr. Broccoli head isn't here! I hope Rachel didn't scare him away. Or maybe he is shy around dolphins?

Finn:

Dancing is hard. Why does there have to be so many steps?

Burt:

Kurt's so little. Maybe he needs to eat more... Oh, its time for Blaine's solo.

Cooper:

My little squirt is growing up. Well not vertically. Hah. I knew he could sing, but damn, he was good! I looked down and saw Cam and Lex watching and clapping along to the song. Cam had the biggest smile on her face watching two of her favorite people on stage. I put a hand on Lex's shoulder and she looked up at me and smiled. I glanced back at the stage just in time to see Blaine do a dance move. Damn, the little squirt can dance too!

Sam:

They looked good! I hoped not for the first time that I could make it to regionals. I sat back in my chair, wishing I was up on that stage with my team. That's the last time I would try to break up a fight. I could hate Kurt and Blaine for what they did, but I just can't find the motivation to. Plus, Mercedes has been coming around more and that's been the best part of the whole thing. So really, I should thank them.

Jeff:

I leaned over to Nick.

"The hell is a garbler?" Nick shrugged.

"I don't know, but I wouldn't be caught dead in one of those jackets." I nodded my head in agreement.

"It's Warbler and it's a kind of bird. Also, they are uniforms and they are amazing." Wes added to our conversation. He seemed mesmerized by the blazers. "It's just so orderly!" Nick and I chuckled. David shushed us as the current number came to an end.

Blaine:

We finished our final number and took our bows before we left the stage. Damn, this was even better than winning a game. Well, not better; just different. The rush of performing was pretty dope. Kurt was wiping sweat off with a towel when I grabbed him from behind and lifted him into the air. He shrieked and swatted at my hands.

"Put me down, Blaine Anderson!" I spun him around and set him back down before twirling him around to face me.

"That was amazing! We killed it!" He smiled and grabbed my hand.

"I knew you would like performing. And yes we did indeed kill it." I kissed Kurt hard on the mouth and grabbed his waist.

"Damn, this was good. I can't wait until regionals."

"Wait, so you're staying in glee club?"

"Hell yeah, babe." Kurt smiled and grabbed my shirt and kissed me again.

Kurt:

After me and Blaine totally made out back stage, they were ready to announce the winners.

"And the winner of the sectionals is... The New Directions!" We all jumped up and down and screamed our hearts out. We won! Blaine caught me in his arms and kissed me.

Karofsky:

Look at those two. Shamelessly kissing on stage. It was disgusting. What was even worse was that I wished it was me. I watched from the back of the auditorium and swore that I was going to put them in their place. Just had to wait for the right moment. When their gang wasn't with them.

Kurt:

I quickly got changed and headed out to the auditorium. Blaine was standing near the door waiting for me. I bounded over to him and kissed his cheek from behind.

"Hey beautiful, you ready?" We had all decided to go to Breadstix to celebrate our victory.

"Yup I'm ready when you are. Did Cooper, Alexa, and Cam come talk to you?"

"Yeah, they enjoyed the show, but they had to go ahead and take Cam home."

"I'm glad." We turned hand in hand to go out the door, but found it blocked by Karofsky. I felt Blaine tense beside me and I felt sick to my stomach. My hand tightened in his.

"What do you want?" Blaine was staring him down with a cold glare.

"I want to remind you fags what is going to happen if you say anything to anyone about what happened." He looked pointedly at me and I felt Blaine start to rush forward, but I held onto his arm.

"Look, I'm not going to out you."

"I will, in a heartbeat."

"WE, aren't going to out you." I tugged on Blaine's arm again. "Look, what you're going through is hard and I know what it's like. You need to talk to someone." Karofsky lunged at me, but Blaine placed himself firmly between us. Karofsky smirked and leaned back.

"If you tell anyone, I'll make you regret it."

"Did you just threaten us?"

"What do you think, Anderson?" Blaine laughed humorlessly and his eyes flashed with barely contained rage.

"I think my mom is a lawyer and I am best friends with most of the football team. So if you touch a hair on Kurt's beautiful head, you'll go down legally and physically." Karofsky frowned and stepped back. "Now, if you'll excuse us we have somewhere to go." Blaine shuffled me out the door and to his car. He made sure I was in before going to the driver's side and taking off toward Breadstix.

Blaine didn't even turn on the radio after pulling out of the parking lot. He just stared intently at the road, fingers tight on the wheel. He kept clenching his jaw tightly and squeezing the wheel. I reached over and rubbed his arm, feeling him relax a little at the action. He responded with a tight smile. I was a little shaken up too, but Blaine seemed pissed.

"Blaine, you're being too quiet." He didn't reply, but after a moment he grabbed my hand a squeezed it. We drove like that, hand in hand and in complete silence until we got to the restaurant. He parked the car and stared out the windshield. I looked down at our linked hands and rubbed little circles with my thumb.

"He can't just go around threatening people!"

There it is.

"Blaine, honey, he's not going to do anything-"

"You need to tell your dad." I looked at him with a shocked expression.

"What? Why?"

"He needs to know that his son was just threatened."

"I'm not telling him, Blaine."

"If you don't, I will." Now I was pissed.

"No you won't! You promised to let me handle it!"

"Yeah, and you promised me that if things escalated, you would tell, but you're not handling it! He needs to know Kurt!"

"But his heart-"

"Will be worse if something happens to you." I stubbornly stared out my window. I knew he had a point, but the thought of possibly losing my dad was enough to send me spiraling down a dark hole. I lost my mom, I couldn't lose dad too. I knew all too well how that would feel having faced it before.

"I... I cant lose him, Blaine." I didn't know when I started crying, but the tears were falling fast.

"Baby." Blaine hugged me to his chest and kissed the top of my head gently. "You're not going to lose him." I clutched his shirt.

"I just don't want to upset his heart."

"It will be worse if you don't tell him." I nodded and laid on his chest, listening to his heart beat. It started getting quicker.

"Why is your heart beating so fast?"

"Oh, I don't know maybe cause I have an incredibly hot guy laying on me and I want to kiss him so bad it hurts." I giggled at that.

"Well then, kiss me."

"Gladly." He tilted my head up and put his lips on mine. It was a slow, but gentle kiss that made me fall even more for him. We pulled back and smiled at one another. I wiped at my eyes and looked in the mirror.

"I look like a mess."

"You look beautiful." He grabbed my hand and kissed it. "Now, let's go. Our friends are waiting."

...

Wes:

Blaine and Kurt finally walked through the door.

"Woo! The shorty had it in him!" I dodged a punch from Blaine and laughed.

"Shut it, Montgomery." David came up to Blaine and threw an arm around him.

"You did good, pig. You did good." Blaine shoved his arm off, grabbed Kurt and went to a corner booth. We joined them, Jeff and Nick bounding over with some of the New Directions all scooting tables together.

"What is this, the freaking last supper?" Blaine put his arm around Kurt and tried to hide behind the menu. I pulled it down, earning myself another dirty look.

"Why you trying to hide, bro?" Kurt looked over at me and laughed. That's when I noticed his eyes were puffy and his nose was red. He had been crying. Some of the New Direction girls saw Kurt as well and pulled him up and off to the girls bathroom. Blaine just stared after them.

"What the hell did you do to Kurt, man?"

"What do you mean?"

"He's obviously been crying, bro." Jeff chimed in.

"Look, he's just going through something."

"You didn't do or say something to hurt him did you?"

"No! Like I said, it's something that's not anyone's business." He glared at us and went back to the menu.

Kurt:

"Not that I don't like the fact that I'm allowed into your girl's inner sanctum, but why did you just forcibly drag me here?"

"Because you look like you've been crying." Mercedes pointed out.

"Did Blaine say something?"

"Did he do something?"

"Did he hit you?" I look at Rachel. I fixed her with an icy glare.

"Really, Rachel? You think he hit me?"

"You can never be too careful, Kurt." I closed my eyes, trying not to let her have it.

"No, it's just some stuff that's going on with me." They looked like they wanted more from me. "You know, bullying stuff." They all looked down at the ground.

"I'm sorry you have to go through any of that, Kurt. I though it was getting better." Mercedes grabbed my hand and held it tight.

"It is getting better, but that Neanderthal Karofsky is determined to make my life a living hell." I clutched her hand.

"Did you tell Finn? The whole football team is practically on our side. We could have them talk to Karofsky?"

"Thanks Rachel, but I need to handle this on my own."

Sebastian:

There was hardly anywhere decent to eat in this godforsaken town. I settled for this Italian restaurant that seemed like their version of fine dining. As I walked in, my eyes fell upon a familiar head of gelled hair. Blaine Anderson. We had gotten together several times last year, but his daddy issues got boring after awhile. However, I figured I could get a good chuckle out of flustering him. I walked over when his back was turned and he was talking to one of the large group he was seated with.

"Well, well, if it isn't Blaine Anderson." I could feel the recognition hit him as he turned around. I smiled at him. "What a small world."

"Sebastian? What are you doing here?" He seemed a little put off. How rude. Right as he asked me, this guy came in surrounded by girls and stood next to Blaine. He had the most gorgeous blue eyes and perfectly coiffed brown hair. His pants were almost impossible tight and he had on a designer sweater. He looked absolutely delectable. I realized then that he had been up on stage with Blaine and that sad little group that had somehow beaten us. I had to have him.

"Who's this, Blaine?" His voice was smooth and higher than I anticipated. I wondered how high it could go in the right circumstances... Blaine seemed to shift nervously since this beautiful creature walked up.

"This is Sebastian. We used to... be friends."

"We used to have sex, is what he means." It would be fun to rile Blaine up a little bit.

Blaine:

I can't believe this is happening. Why does Sebastian have to be here? I felt Kurt tense beside me.

"So Blaine," Here we go, now he's going to start flirting with me and Kurt is going to freak out. "Who is this enchanting guy?" That stopped me dead in my tracks. Kurt let his mouth fall open slightly.

"What?"

"Introduce me to the hottie on your right." What is happening? Sebastian had that predatory look and it was aimed at Kurt. My Kurt.

"Um... my name is Kurt." What is happening?

"Hello Kurt, I'm Sebastian. Or your next wet dream, if you want." What the hell is happening?

"This is Kurt, my boyfriend." Sebastian seemed taken back a bit. His eyebrows shot up.

"Boyfriend? I though you didn't do boyfriends."

"I do now and Kurt is my boyfriend so you can just go along your way." I grabbed Kurt's arm and drug him into the booth. My eyes never left Sebastian's who had a familiar glint in his eye. I hoped this didn't get any worse.

...

Kurt:

Blaine parked his car at my house and looked over at me.

"I'm sorry about Sebastian, babe."

"It's fine. He is a little much, but it's not like he goes to our school or anything. I doubt we will ever have to deal with him again." I let my hand rest on his shoulder.

"Are you going to talk to your dad?"

"Yeah. I am not looking forward to it, but it's the right thing to do." I started to massage his shoulder. Blaine moaned happily, looking like he would melt into a puddle right there.

"You're kind of turning me on, Hummel." His shoulders relaxed under my grip and his eyes closed halfway.

"Good." I planted my lips on his and grabbed his thigh to give myself leverage, leaning on him more. His hands move around and grabbed my ass as he moved his mouth more frantically against mine.

"Kurt, you better be out of that car in five seconds." My father's voice pierced right through the mood. I let my head rest on Blaine's shoulder with a frustrated sigh.

"Goodbye, Blaine."

"Goodbye, Kurt." He smacked my butt as I got out of the car and then drove away before my father could murder him. I bounded up the walk way towards my dad.

"Hey, dad."

"Hey, son." He glared after Blaine's car and started to go back inside as I followed him. I let the door close behind me.

"Dad, can I talk to you about something?"

"Yeah. What's going on?" We sat down at the bar in the kitchen. "Do we need to have another sex talk?" I felt my face heat up.

"Wha- no, Dad! Why would you think that?" He shrugged.

"Just wondering after that little show you two just put on." I rolled my eyes. Of course he was spying on us the whole time.

"No." I took a deep breath. Time to have courage. "So, I want to be open with you and communicate what's happening in my life."

"Okay." He looked at me seriously.

"Dad, there is this guy, named Karofsky. He's been giving me a hard time for awhile now." Dad's mouth tightened into an angry line as he got a little more furious with every word. "He threatened me and Blaine tonight."

"He threatened you?" He got up as if he was prepared to go to his house tonight. "Threatened you how?"

"Dad, calm down! Your heart!" He stayed standing, but seemed to be trying to take deep breaths. "He... didn't say specifically, but he implied that he would do something if we didn't stop being gay which is... I think he's just got some wrong ideas."

"Kurt, when were you going to tell me?" I felt my stomach clench with the feeling that maybe I had disappointed him.

"I didn't want you to get upset and get sick again." I looked down at the ground. He seemed to calm down.

"I get it, Kurt. I get that you don't want me to get sick. But I'm your dad. It's my job to deal with this stuff. Monday we are going to your school and talking to Figgins."

"Dad, we will be fine. Blaine has the whole football team around him and I have Blaine practically glued to me twenty-four seven."

"No, we are going to talk to the principal. That kind of behavior can't be tolerated." I could tell by his set jaw and the determined furrow of his eyebrows that arguing wouldn't work.

"Okay, dad. I'm sorry for not talking to you before. I just wanted to protect you." He grabbed me and held me in his arms.

"I love you, kid, but it's my job to protect you. It's going to be okay."
