Ch 14

Thirty minutes passed by slow. Beth was bouncing her leg up and down as she sat on the couch waiting for Jasper to come get her. She and Bella would have to come up with a plan when their boyfriend and fiance wasn't near by. Bella had come down, ate a piece of toast with some eggs, then hurried back up stairs. Beth could hear the blow dryer going off signaling that Bella was almost done in the bathroom. She raced up the stairs and into Bella's room, waiting on the bed.

Edward had left so Bella could have her human minute, as she likes to call it, so Beth took a breath in as Bella walked in as she threw her hair up in a bun.

"Before the guys get back, which will be soon... We need to come up with a back up plan for us..." Beth started.

"I'm not leaving Edward alone to face Victoria... You'll probably stay with us with the others are fighting. We'll have Jake with us as well. If you could, maybe you can get Jasper to stay with you?" Bella suggested. Beth thought about it. "I'll see what I can do."

A car door shut outside making the girls hush on their conversation and head downstairs to meet Jasper with Emmett's Jeep outside.

"Edward is right down the road. He's gonna take you on a date before coming to the house and getting the Jeep," He told Bella as he came up to Beth and pulled her into a hug.

"I'll see you later, Bella," Beth said as Jasper carried her to the jeep and helped her inside and got buckled in. Once Jasper was in and buckled in, he took off as Edward took his spot to pick up Bella. Jasper pulled into the Cullen's driveway, shut off the jeep, and helped Beth out.

"Alright, darlin'. Hold on tight. We're gonna run to the spot. The others are gonna meet us there," Jasper said as he put Beth on his back and she held on tight.

"I'm ready cowboy," Beth whispered, blushing as she thought of maybe doing something later. Jasper took off and in a few short minutes, Jasper stopped and let Beth relax on a log. Carlisle and Esme were standing off to one side, talking to Alice and Nathaniel. Rosalie was braiding her hair to the side as Emmett was jumping up and down.

"Hey Jazz! Come warm up with me!" Emmett shout out. Beth giggled as Jasper looked to her.

"Go on, cowboy. Show me what you can do," Beth told him. He left and got ready to charge at Emmett. As they began to warm up, Rosalie came over.

"Hey Beth, could I do your hair?" She asked. Beth looked at her curls as they fell in her face.

"I don't see why not. You've done it before," Beth said with a shrug. Rosalie began on working on her head. Rosalie finished the braided halo that held in the rest of Beth's hair in the back as Edward and Bella pulled up in the jeep. Once they had gotten out, Rosalie stood and began to stretch out, even though she probably didn't need it.

Emmett went flying into the air and landed hard next to Beth, scaring the poor girl to fall off the log with a scream. Wolves ran into the open area wondering what happened. Beth then started laughing as she looked up into the sky. "I'm okay!"

Chuckles and snorts rang through the air. Emmett helped up Beth off the ground. "Sorry about that, squirt."

"It's fine, Bear. Just try not to land near me again," She said with a giggle. Bella went next to Jake and said hi as Beth waved hi to all of them. Seth wagged his tail back in greetings. The meeting started and Beth couldn't but almost melt against the log she just sat next to when Jasper talked and his southern accent came out more than ever.

She watched everyone take turns on practicing on fighting and bit her lip as Alice and Rosalie each had their turns. When the meeting was over, Bella and Beth both sat on the Jeep waiting on Edward and Jasper came and got them. Jasper came over then.

"Hey... Are you sure there's nothing we can do to help?" Bella asked, trying to get some of our help in. Jasper looked to her and then me.

"Your scent would distract the newborns... Their hunting instincts would take over and the hunger from there..." He said, not wanting to put the girls out in danger. He turned and paced as he thought. Bella looked to Beth and Beth to Bella.

"How do you know so much about this anyway, Jasper?" Bella asked. Beth bit her lip as she didn't even know the true story of Jasper and was wanting to know as well. Jasper looked to the girls.

"I didn't quite have the same upbringing as my adopted siblings," He said as he lifted up his sleeves, showing off bite marks on his forearms. Beth already had seen them, but never asked questions. She knew Jasper would tell her when he was ready.

"Those bites are like mine..." Bella muttered.

"Battle scars," Jasper told her with a grin. "All the training the confederate army gave me, it's useless against the newborns. But still... I never lost a fight." He looked lost in thought before starting to pace again. Bella hopped down and stood next to him as he stopped.

"This happened in the civil war?" She asked, curious. Beth hopped down and held onto Jasper's arm after she caught up to them. They all started walking.

"I was the youngest major in the Texas Calvary. Only.. I've never seen any real battle."

"Until?.."

"Until I met a certain immortal... Maria."

Beth looked to Jasper as he got a far away look in his eyes. Bella and Beth listened closely as Jasper told his tell of riding through Houston to Galveston, getting women and children to safety. He made one last trip to make sure everyone was out, when he found three women on foot.

"I had offered them some help, as I was stunned by their beauty of course..."

They had asked him for his name and of course, being a gentleman he was, he gave it. Maria had come up to him, he couldn't move even though everything told him to run. Her other companions left to hunt as she went and changed him.

"Maria was creating an army?" Bella asked as she looked up to Jasper. He had paused, most likely to keep quiet on how the change went for the girls sakes.

"They were very common in the south, fighting over land. Maria won them all. She was smart, careful. She had me. I was her second in command. My abilities to control emotions, served her well. I trained her newborns, and with endless occupations, she never let them live past their first year. And it was my job to dispose of them. I could feel everything they felt... I thought was Maria and I had was love..."

Beth stilled for a second, Jasper looked to her as she looked down, not wanting to meet his eyes quite yet. That little information surprised and hurt her. She knew Jasper would've had others, but didn't expect to love them. Jasper then looked to Bella.

"But I was her puppet. She pulled the strings. I didn't know that there was another way, til I found Alice... She saw me coming of course," Jasper said with a smirk.

"You kept me waiting long enough..." Alice said as she came into the conversation with Nathaniel behind her.

"My apologies ma'am," Jasper said, thick with his accent. Beth bit her lip with a blush, tightening up her knees so she wouldn't fall.

"I don't know what I would've become without her..." He commented.

"Shh... You never have to be that again. Now you have Beth, I only put you on the right track," Alice said with a smile as Beth looked to Jasper. Jasper looked to Beth with a smirk. She stood on her toes as he wrapped an arm around her and kissed her. Bella looked away with a smile and blush as Alice went back to Nathaniel and they went off to hunt.

Edward came and got Bella and they went off on their own while Jasper picked up Beth and raced back to the Cullen's home and up to his room. They stayed there until the rest of the family was back home. Jasper took Beth back home for the night after Esme made her some dinner.

Once home, Beth did her normal chores of washing and putting away dishes, folding and putting away laundry, sweeping the floors and taking the trash out. She went back to her room and pulled out her nightly clothes as Jasper came in through the window. He wasn't going to take any chances of another vampire coming in and this time succeeding in getting a hold of Beth.

"Jasper... You know I love you, right?" Beth asked, still a little insecure from his story. Jasper looked to Beth in shock.

"Of course. I have no doubt about that, just like how I have no doubt about loving you. We are getting married in less than to months. Why?" He sat on her bed as she looked to him.

"I just want you to know that I really do love you... And that I'm not ever going to take advantage of you like Maria did..."

"Darlin', you could take advantage of me any time," Jasper said with a smirk. Beth blushed at the hint he was getting at.

"While you say that's okay, we can't do that here while the others are in. My room isn't sound proof like yours," Beth said as she got ready for bed, changing out of her clothes and took down her hair, and changed into some short shorts and a tank before crawling into bed next to Jasper who held her. She quickly went to sleep, tired from all of the days activities, and the stress of the weekend war that was coming up fast.
