"Where were you? You should tell me before leaving like that!" Orinthia growled. I don't remember seeing her this irritated ever since I began living with her.
"Eh, just went to get my supplies, Rin. Where did you find our guest?" I didn't want to announce the part about Poke Balls, especially with our target sitting right in front of me and listening to our conversation with his arms crossed. I didn't know what led to him sitting in our den. Did he come to terrorize us again? I turned my attention to him, "Hello there, you must be Lucario? I've heard about you." I weakly smiled. It would be much easier if he could speak too. To my surprise, he could, except it seemed like he was using telepathy, as I couldn't see him speak, but I could hear a distinct voice in my head,
"Hello, Felix. I just wanted to talk to you, so I came looking for you two the other day." He sounded calm. I didn't know if he was telling the truth, but Orinthia said in her gruff voice again, "Don't listen to him, Felix! He was walking around like a thief! I caught him so we could put an end to his trespassing!"
I sighed and decided to sit down with them, tossing my supplies aside. After all, the Lucario didn't exactly look hostile, so I thought I could keep a conversation going and reach a solution peacefully. What was he up to, anyway? Didn't he destroy my stuff the other day?
"Okay, calm down, Rin." I patted her arm, "And Lucario, glad to hear you just wanted to talk, but weren't you the one who went through my stuff the other day?"
"I'm afraid I did, human. I just wanted to make sure you were not a trainer. I don't want them around our forest." He looked down at the ground, but Orinthia didn't buy it,
"And you had to tear his stuff like that to make sure he wasn't a trainer? Just admit that you were looking for an excuse to drive him away! Speak straight or I'm calling my allies!"
"Sorry, I forgot that you can't fight by yourself." He snickered. I was feeling angry about how he spoke about her, but I remembered that I couldn't fight either. "Look, friend, you wanted to talk to me, right? Will you kindly leave us alone if I talk to you? We have no intention of harming anyone, we're just living peacefully." I proposed to the Lucario. He thought for a moment before speaking,
"I wish you to come with me, human. I want to speak with you alone."
I looked at Orinthia, who in turn glared at Lucario and said something to him in her own tongue that I didn't understand. He replied to her in his tongue, looking amused before speaking to me again,
"Your friend said she would kill me if I hurt you. Worry not, I'm not a coward who would lure a prey away. Do you want to come or not?"
He was kind of getting on my nerves, with the arrogant way of his speech, but I didn't have any other choice. I wanted to end this and be left alone with Orinthia. I got up and said,
"Don't worry, I'll be back safely."
"Be careful, Felix. I'll be waiting." She reminded me.
"So what is it you wanted to talk about, Lucario?" I asked him, carefully treading along the part of the forest he led me into. It was dense, unlike the area I'm used to exploring. I just hoped that it wasn't a trap. Was it foolish to trust him? I've heard stories about how Lucario were noble Pokemon, but he did behave like a thief before. Knowing myself, he couldn't be fully trusted.
"Nothing much, human. I just wanted to know if you know what you're doing." He stopped walking, as did I. It wasn't even afternoon yet, but this part of the forest was pretty dark, giving off an ominous energy.
"What do you mean?" I did a lot of things lately, exactly which one he was talking about?
"About your Zoroark friend. Do you know she's a killer?" He looked at me and asked in a different tone, sounding more serious.
I nervously laughed, "I know, I've personally seen her hunt other Pokemon." I thought about the poor Audino and the 'meal incident'.
"No, that's not what I'm talking about, human. She has killed humans before." He shook his head and looked at the ground, as if he was trying to find something more to say.
I drew in a slow, long breath. Why should I believe him?
Noticing my silence, he picked up the conversation again, "Look, I know you probably don't believe me, I think she's been nice to you so far. But I can show you some proofs."
"Just tell me what proofs you got. I don't have time for your stupid games." I said in a cold voice. Even if he had proofs, would it change anything? She won't hurt me, right?
"The cave, human. Did she ever tell you about the cave?"
The cave? Now it made sense why she was hesitant about taking me there. If it was linked to her killings, she probably thought I would hate her for it.
"She told me about a cave, actually. What about it?" I wanted to pry out every last bit of information out of him. He seemed to know a lot about Orinthia.
"Your friend drags the corpses there after killing them, like some kind of treasure. I can show you if you want, it's pretty close." He said in his calm voice. I slumped down on the ground, trying to sort through my thoughts. She did tell me how she didn't chase me away or kill me like other humans or something before, but...
"Don't you want to see her treasure, human? Maybe you'll end up dead like them one day if you continue to stay with her." He said, expect his voice sounded colder. I finally looked at him,
"No, I'm not worried. I think I can die in peace if she's the one to claim my life, Lucario. Thank you for the warning. Now, it would be nice if you could get lost and leave us alone. Nobody appointed you as my guardian." With that, I got up and began walking in the direction I came from, not glancing back even once.
His words changed nothing. I loved Orinthia, even if she was a crazed killer.
I couldn't wait to go back to her and spend more time together. She was waiting.
