Scott's POV
First time on the island alone with the kids
With everyone out for training for the day and Jeff and Sophie out for their anniversary, I had no choice but to keep an eye on Freddie and Lucy, as much as I love my children this would be the first time I would be alone on the island with both of them. I didn't even know why Kayo had bothered to go to on the course in the first place because we were both off rescue missions until further notice since I had given Virgil my job of being the leader and he wasn't willing to give it back to me.
I was in the kitchen with my feet solidly on the ground and stood making cookies for the kids to keep them quiet for the day, while I have an essay to write up about why I deserve my job back as the leader of international rescue.
As for the kids they were both keeping themselves occupied watching TV.
"Do you think daddy looks stressed?" Lucy whispered, leaning over to Freddie on the sofa.
Freddie looked over his shoulder to confirm Lucy's diagnoses, "Yeah, I overheard that mummy saying that this is daddy's first time alone on the island with both of us,"
"Should we make it a living hell for him?" Lucy drawled, raising her voice, making Freddie shush her.
"Hey!" I barked, "I heard that Lucy,"
"Let's still do it anyway," Lucy mumbled to her brother, "May the best brother or sister win,"
Lucy put out a handshake which Freddie excepted, "Best one win,"
Skipping to the kitchen, Lucy hovered over me as I was in the middle of cutting out cookies with the cutter.
"Daddy you know snowmen are round not square,"
I looked down and realised that she was right, I was using a square cookie cutter rather than a circle one.
"Gee, Thanks Lucy I know, but snowman can be different kinds of shapes they can even be hexagons," Scott huffed holding up the doughy hexagon cutter.
"I don't know what a hex thing is daddy," Lucy murmured, "I only know what a square is,"
"It's a 8 sided shape, Lucy," Freddie answered then turned back around to watching the tv.
10 minutes later Lucy carried on watching tv while I took the chocolate cookies out of the oven and slid them onto a plate for the kids to nibble on.
"Listen up, you two," I instructed and took the remote control out of Freddie's hands which caught both their attention. Now both looking at me with no distractions I started to talk, "I have an important essay to get done by the end of the day so I need no distractions,"
"So we can watch TV all day?" Freddie chirped as his and Lucy's eyes lit up in excitement.
"Yes and nibble on the cookies," Scott continued, "But not all at once,"
"But doesn't that make our eyes bad?" Lucy asked as she took a bite from the cookie, "From watching tv all day,"
I was about to answer but I spotted Lucy grasping her stomach in pain. She only had one cookie. How could this be happening? Kayo's only been gone for an hour.
"Lucy, please don't tell me you have a upset tummy,"
"Daddy, I think the cookies are under cooked as I don't feel good," Lucy whined rubbing her stomach, "My stomach hurts,"
I gave a grunt before shutting my laptop and made a decision, "Medical bay now!"
I scooped Lucy up from the sofa with her toy and Freddie trailed behind me, rushing downstairs. Once we got down to the medical bay Freddie jumped onto the chair furthest bed away while I laid Lucy with her toy onto the closet bed on her back. Even something as a small tummy ache could send me into panic mode when it came to my children.
"I'm going to give you an ultrasound Lucy to make sure it's nothing serious," I mused aloud, "Keep your teddy close as I don't want it getting in the way,"
"Do you know how to use it, dad?" Lucy prodded securing her toy on the other side of her arm.
"Of course!" I chuckled, "I know the island like the back of my hands," he then picked up the red coloured bottle which caught Lucy's attention, "I'm just going to use some of this gel,"
Lucy nodded as I squeezed some gel onto her midsection, forgetting to tell her it was going to be cold she squirmed instantly and whimpered moving on the bed.
"Daddy, it's cold," Lucy squealed frantically shaking on the bed like she was trying to escape.
"Shh relax Lucy, I know it's cold but nothing else is going to hurt," I instantly took her hand and rubbed it, "Promise,"
Freddie crossed his arms and lent back in the chair, "Not fair, Lucy gets a haircut by mum and now gets an ultrasound by dad,"
I raised at eyebrow at my son's comment and turned on the screen, "Sorry Freddie this wasn't exactly planned,"
Freddie crossed his arms again and pouted. He wasn't thrilled that Lucy was getting all the attention from me and Kayo and he was being used for the sideline, but after all that was what big brothers were for.
Once Lucy had calmed down enough, I released his hand from hers and grabbed the wand, running it across her lower stomach.
"It doesn't look anything serious," I informed my kids, but then I frowned when I saw an unusual shape that looked like a jelly bean on the screen, "Did you have a jelly bean this morning Lucy without asking me?"
Lucy shook her head, "But I had a red one last night before bed,"
"Okay.." I replied as he moved further up Lucy's stomach, "Because you haven't digested it properly,"
"Is that bad?" Lucy asked in a curious tone.
"At your age, no, it will disintegrate and mix up with all the other stuff in your body," I explained, "Medically speaking,"
"We played throw the jellybean game," Freddie admitted lifting his head in sorrow worrying about how it his idea in the first place to play the game.
"Okay, from now own don't play that game because I don't want anyone choking or this happening again. Understood?" I bit.
"Yes daddy," Lucy muttered, nodding her head.
"Yes daddy," Freddie repeated, also nodding his head.
I didn't want to punish the kids for playing the jelly bean game because it was their favorite, as both of them could play it without anything getting broken. So instead I gave them a fair warning not to play it again.
I put the wand back into the holder and cleaned Lucy up before turning back to my oldest son, who looked guilty. Sighing I sat next to him, I knew what it was like to feel left out and not getting attention especially when you are the oldest. Picking up Freddie, I sat him down in my lap while Lucy occupied herself with her toy. It was time for some father son talk. After our talk it made me realise that I need to share my attention equally between both of my kids (Since Freddie is fine with Kayo but not me).
Turing my attention back to Lucy who was still sat on the bed I placed her on, she was giggling and speaking her own language to her toy. Grinning, I stood up from my chair quietly and grabbed Lucy from behind causing her to yelp a little in shock and with Freddie in my other arm they were both happy. However, I completely forgot that I still had an essay to write by the end of the day, but instead we spent the rest of the day in the garden searching for bugs.
"Ohano!" Scott jumped up in surprise at the lady dusting his hands off from mud, "Kayo didn't tell me you were visiting, can I help you with something?"
"Actually it's not Ohano," she then revealed her true self causing me to gasp, "It's Fuse,"
"Fuse!" I scolded, getting right into his face, I then sighed and took a step back when I saw his sad face, "Sorry, What are you doing here, anyway?"
"I need to speak with Kayo," Fuse responded in a gentle tone.
"She's not here, don't bother coming back," I told him before kneeling back down on the ground with the kids who didn't even look up to see who I was raising my voice too.
Fuse walked over to a deck chair and sat on it burying his hands in his head, looking desperate. Debating whether or not to kick him off the island I shooed the kids to their bedrooms and joined him on the deck chair next to him. This could go one way or another.
In the bedroom everyone had come back from training, with dad and Sophie still on their date Fuse had time to confront Kayo about early before anyone could intervene.
"He's my brother!" Kayo fumed, stopping her boot on the carpet, "Mum when were you going to tell me,"
Over the com Ohano pressed her lips together, "Sometime over a lunch meal,"
"Also, the Pokemon egg isn't real it's a robot," Fuse sighed.
I rolled my eyes, not amused, "No wonder why Brains said it didn't pass any of it's test,"
Me and Kayo exchanged bewildered looks while Fuse frowned in disbelief when the door opened with a young boy in tears.
"You mean Bublasseur is not real," Freddie screeched causing everyone in the room to put their hands over their ears, "He was my best friend,"
"Your not going anywhere," Kayo swung her foot out and effectively shut the door blocking Fuse from his exit, "I believe you owe him a sincere apology as an uncle now,"
Fuse kneeled in front of Freddie.
"I'm sorry that the Pokemon wasn't real, I just used it to see what your life was really like with you guys," Freddie nodded as Fuse got up and faced the others, "Kayo I can't do this after everything I have done to your family, I don't deserve this title,"
"Don't think of it as a title, you've had a rough journey and now everything has been cleared," Kayo smiled through her teeth, scuffing her feet under the bed in despair.
I narrowed my eyes at Kayo, I don't agree with Fuse suddenly becoming my kids uncle after everything he had done to my family, "I'm confused, I always thought Ohana was with your dad until he passed away,"
"He was, but my parents had a complicated relationship when they were both on and off with each other and remember the photo Gordon gave to me when he came back from dropping the kids off at my mum's?"
I nodded before answering, "Yes, I remember,"
"I threw it in the bin because I didn't recognise the person I thought it was a from my uncle," Kayo sighed climbing into my lap, "But now everything makes sense, the photo, why my dad also said he needed to work late nearly everyday it all adds up this was all planned since the first day I moved to the island,"
"What about the DNA samples you did with Virgil?" I asked.
"It confirmed exactly what he just said,"
I nodded and allowed Kayo to climb out of my lap as I brushed my finger through her long pony tail as she got down, she turned back and smiled at me. Family life may be difficult but at least we had each other for support.
"Mummy, you want cookies?" Lucy offered (Slightly demanding) holding a plate of hexagon chip cookies in front of Kayo's face.
"Yes please," Kayo crowed, taking a cookie from the plate, "Which one of you made them?"
She questioned her kids, who were eagerly watching her chew the cookie, like they were waiting for something to happen to her.
"Daddy did, which is the reason why there hexagons because he doesn't know what a circle looks like," Freddie clarified, as Kayo tried to resist a smirk because I had just walked in after finishing my shower.
"Bad daddy," Lucy shrieked, "Bad,"
"I know my shapes better than you two," I crooned, tickling Freddie and Lucy's neck, but then gasped when I saw Kayo's mouth moving, "Kayo did you eat a cookie?"
"Yes, only one and their the best one's you've ever made," Kayo complimented, still seeming confused why she couldn't have one, "Why are you so freaked out about me eating a cookie anyway, was it because you wanted them for all to yourself?"
I politely took the plate out of Freddie's hand and opened the bin lid throwing the paper plate and the cookies in the bin.
"There under cooked," Scott confessed, murmuring to a near whisper.
Kayo shrugged, still puzzled, "So... I've eaten under cooked snowman cookies before with a gooey centre,"
"No there poisonous and made me have an upset tummy," Lucy piped up pointing to her stomach.
"Yeah, where we found Lucy had a jelly bean stuck in her stomach," Freddie explained in more detail.
"Poisonous! And jelly bean!" Kayo repeated, her eyes widening, frowning at me, "Care to explain Dr Tracy,"
Kayo now stood opposite me with a sheepish smile on her face but still did not look to impressed.
"Don't call me that that's Virgil's nickname," I murmured to Kayo, "The cookies are not poisonous, the kids are just overreacting," I calmly informed her as I watched them run out of the room, "I did have to use the ultrasound on Lucy though, it was scary when the jelly bean was just floating in her insides,"
"It doesn't matter now we'll deal with it later, but I believe you owe me a plate of cooked cookies," Kayo quipped, emphasising on the word cooked, "Star shaped this time please,"
I nodded and continued my second round of making cookies, just shame the kids couldn't make pretend ones from their play kitchen, while Kayo joined the kids in the play room who were sat on the floor chatting.
"How much I've missed both of your sense of humor's!" Kayo quickly expressed grasping her two children off the ground, giving them multiple kisses.
"Put me down I was winning the game," Lucy exclaimed trying to escape her mother's grip.
Kayo looked round the room, it didn't look like they were playing anything, "What game?"
Freddie and Lucy both glared at each other and snickered, talking in their own language.
"What have you two been up too?" Kayo inquired, sitting on the beige carpet with her kids in her lap.
Freddie giggled quietly, "Nothing,"
"Are you sure because I can always take something of yours away..." Kayo slowly took the toy out of Lucy's hand.
"Nuh uh!" Freddie immediately argued. Seeing Lucy go red and holding her breath.
"Don't both of you lie to me," Kayo cautioned, "Mommy doesn't like lying,"
"We made daddy's life a living hell today," Lucy spat out, earning an angry glare from her brother, "I won,"
"Really," Kayo continued raising her eyebrow in suspicion, "I believe you need to apologise then to him because it's not nice to play tricks,"
"Bu you always do on Sophie," Freddie remarked, "Everyone does even granddad,"
"That's different we jump scare her," Kayo hummed with a little laugh, "Not on purpose though,"
All three of them stood up and walked to the front part of the island and the children apologised to me, which I found rather sweet as they had never done it before without me begging. It wasn't the day I was expecting, but it was defiantly nice to spend some quality time with Lucy and Freddie if I ended up making my daughter sick.
Getting out of the limo Jeff had requested for the way back since they got dropped off on the way up, he opened the door for Sophie which led them straight into their shared bedroom.
"Best anniversary dinner of my life!" Sophie breathed, removing her heels and dumping them on the floor.
"I can't believe they gave the whole meal for free," Jeff marveled then turned around smiling at the present that was sat on the floor, "Aw can't believe he got it,"
"Who got what, babe?" Sophie inquired as she peeked over Jeff's shoulders.
"Virgil got me the collapsible laptop I always wanted," Jeff blushed as he went to open it, "I wondered why I didn't get a present from him on my birthday,"
"But not as nice as the present I got for you," Sophie giggled, wiggling her eyebrow playfully and leaned her head back, "Who am I kidding, it's an electrical item your already obsessed with without even taken it out of packaging,"
"I'll use it some other time," Jeff seethed throwing the laptop box lightly onto the floor, "Right now it's our anniversary and I demand to spend the night with you having fun,"
Sophie giggled and winked at Jeff, "I agree, because I am not going anywhere from this bedroom,"
They both tucked themselves into the queen size bed and spent the rest of their anniversary alone.
In the planetarium theatre room upstairs, Alan was relaxed, sitting on the sofa while studying the night sky as Virgil walked in. While the others had turned in for the night.
"The stars are beautiful tonight, aren't they?" Virgil asked sitting on the other side of Alan.
"Yeah they are," Alan agreed, keeping his eyes on the sky, "I bet John is enjoying them up there too,"
"I am too Alan," John confirmed showing up on the com next to the sofa.
"Did Scott ever do that essay for you about getting his job back?" Alan questioned.
"Nope," Virgil answered chuckling, "But I gave it back to him anyway I hated making all the decisions especially today in the training it was difficult without him around, even Kayo said that from her seat,"
"You can't please everyone, Virgil," Alan reminded him.
Grimacing, Virgil half looked up in a shy manner, quietly prompting, "Look, about the other day... Alan, it wasn't intentionally..."
Alan cut off his brother smiling, "Virgil it's fine, I forgive you,"
Virgil smiled back taking a sigh of relief, "I love you Alan,"
"Thanks," Alan chuckled, leaning into his brothers arms and repeated, "I love you to Virg,"
