Chapter 16 – Loose Connections

Kali

Blake

Weiss

Blake started to stir from her unexpected slumber.

She came face to face with her mother.

Kali looked down at her child with worry.

"Mom?"

"Yes, baby it's me."

"What happened?"

"You were helping our people board the ship when you fainted."

"Something feels wrong."

"What is it? Are you hurt anywhere? What do you need?"

"Kali."

She gave her husband a pointed look.

"Mom I... I don't know what that was."

"What do you mean Blake?"

"One minute I was focused on making sure everything was ready for our trip and then something felt..."

"Felt?"

"Like something is missing."

Her parents looked at each other having a silent conversation.

"Blake the only time a mate will feint is if the other's presence is no longer there."

"That doesn't make any sense. Yang is nowhere near here and we have not mated."

"That is because your bond goes deeper than we originally thought and as for the dragon she has either been kidnapped to an unknown location or..."

Blake's eyes narrowed to slits and her ears tilted down.

"Or what?"

Kali's ears and face fell.

"Or she has fallen."

"NO! I would know! I would feel it if she was... if she had..."

She closed her eyes and took a deep breathe.

"I wish I could call Ruby or Weiss or hell even the dragon herself to confirm this, but please hear me when I say she isn't just... gone."

Her parents shared a silent conversation with another look.

"At least let me believe she isn't until it has been confirmed."

Both nodded, but were worried for their daughter especially with all that she has been through.

"Are you sure your ok?"

"As soon as I know she is alive I will be."

Both parents nodded and then they all separated to finish with their tasks.

The journey to Haven was not without it's own troubles.

Training as many people that had volunteered was a problem of its own.

The ship was vast but the space to practice was limited.

It was with this in mind that they separated them into smaller groups and timed sparring sessions.

Blake couldn't help, but feel as though she was off for the majority of the boat ride.

They reached land and set out for Haven after having a battle meeting as to what was their plan of attack.

Ilia was going to disarm the bombs she knew that were going to be set in place while the rest were going to confront Adam from all sides.

She thought about her ex-mentor. As she thought about the bull-headed abuser she only wished she had seen him for what he was sooner.

His way of thinking was toxic and warranted no good for Faunus kind over all.

She would help her parents shape their group of followers to follow in their lead.

It was during this meeting that Blake felt the air shutter around her as if her whole world looked brighter and then the void that she had been feeling dissipated.

She didn't quite know the origin of this feeling, but she didn't want to assume that her dragon had returned.

She had been in her room making sure she had everything when her mother had entered.

"Mom?"

"You felt it didn't you?"

"Yes."

"She has returned."

"Where did she go?"

"Of that I have a hunch, but I can't be sure. I'd have to know more about the nature of your teammates."

"What do you mean?"

"You are a Faunus, and you know your partner is a dragon, but what are the other two?"

"I wouldn't be surprised if Ruby was a dragon as well at this point."

"Your team leader?"

"Yes."

"I wouldn't bet on that."

"Why is that?"

"Come on. No daughter of mine could possibly be this slow."

She paused and thought of each of her teammates. At first came the image of all of them being dragons and shook her head because honestly one was shocking enough.

Then she thought of each of their mannerisms and then it struck her.

"I'd be able to sense her."

"About time."

"I didn't sense Yang though either even if it is technically her name."

"She had not accepted her full power yet. Though I suspect that given their differences that their lineage would prove to be different. Though I could be wrong."

"No. The more I think about it the less likely it would be that Ruby would be a dragon. She is nothing like her sister aside from their inability to acknowledge personal space or their unconditional love and kindness towards those they hold dear."

"I look forward to meeting them all."

"You really believe that she is back?"

"Must I remind you? All Faunus can sense the presence of an unmated dragon."

"The Koi have shown me the horror of losing her and I..."

"Can't bare the thought of losing her again?"

"Yes, but for real this time. It was bad enough that she had lost a limb for me."

"I think I like her more each time you tell me something about her."

"The worst thing about her would be her god awful puns."

"Loyal, kind, has a sense of humor, and she loves my daughter? What more could I ask for?"

Blake just rolled her eyes and smiled.

"Come we will go forth and we will find your mate. I have a feeling the rest of your team has grown and changed in ways you wouldn't expect."

"I don't doubt that. You always tend to know best."

"It's what mothers do."

She then gave her a hug and they both headed out to meet her father with the others.

They wasted no time in making their way towards Haven.

She had no idea that facing Adam again wasn't going to be the same.

As night fell she nodded to Ilia to do her part.

She watched as she disappeared into the dark.

She saw them all.

Adam among all of his followers he had with him.

She then stepped forward to get Adam's attention while the rest of them alerted the police and worked to get them surrounded.

She heard him say: "Stay focused our friends are almost done here."

"ADAM!"

"Blake?"

All of the White Fang members took aim at her. Adam stopped them though.

"Stand down!"

"Wait!"

He laughed.

"To think that I took so much trouble to find you only to have you deliver yourself to me."

She shook her head.

"This isn't what's right for the Faunus. Stop what you're doing and we can end this peacefully!"

"You're wrong Blake and you can't stop us."

"No I can't. Not by myself. Not yet."

"That's why she didn't come alone!" Came from Sun.

The rest of her party came in close as the White Fang asked who it was that had them surrounded it was her father who answered.

"Your brothers and sisters."

Adam's followers paused for a moment to whisper among themselves. Feeling doubt when facing fellow Faunus.

"Make no mistake brothers these are our enemies and we will not let them ruin-"

Just then the Mistral police came via airship telling him to lower his weapon and to surrender peacefully.

"HOW! HOW DID YOU DO THIS?"

"Adam it's over."

"Then it's over for all of us."

He pulled out the denotator and pushed the activation button.

But nothing happened.

"Huh?"

He kept pushing the button for a moment.

"What are you doing trying to get us all killed?"

"I AM TRYING TO MAKE HUMANITY PAY FOR WHAT THEY'VE DONE!

"We sent someone over to confirm your explosives and once we did she disarmed them."

He looked up to the tower and saw Ilia holding up wires.

He turned and looked to Hazel who had been standing there this whole time.

"What do we do?"

He shrugged and said: "This is your business not mine. Fix it"

"I told you Adam. It's over."

Not taking that at all he decided to charge her.

She had been ready for him. She dodged out of the way and knocked him on the head with her fists.

He fell, shook his head, and then yelled: "Kill them!"

The White Fang followed their fearless leader into what was going to be a losing battle.

She marveled at how she once thought this weak and spiteful man was meant to be her chosen. Her mate. Oh how wrong she had been.

Hazel was dragged back into the Academy by a summoned Queen Lancer's stinger.

Adam was disoriented and was struggling to stand up straight.

There was a scent in the air and she felt something pull at her.

It was at this point Blake had followed where Hazel had been dragged.

Weiss was the first to notice her, followed by Ruby, and finally Yang turned.

Her eyes met and she couldn't believe her eyes.

"Yang?"

The world stood still for a precious moment as she finally was looking at Yang.

Her eyes had taken on their draconic look.

Blake now understood and felt the pull of them.

Blake's inner beast roared for it's mate.

"YANG! GO!"

Ruby had broken the spell and Yang took off running and she punched Mercury into Emerald of whom both flew through a wall as she leapt through the air and down an opening.

The entrance was then blocked off with ice provided by Weiss.

Ruby nodded to her. It was with this she knew they had things under control

So she nodded back and then headed back to deal with Adam.

His followers had been surrounded. They had dropped their weapons and gave in.

Adam had finally regained his footing.

"I'm going to make you regret ever coming back."

"More police are on their way Adam. Huntsman too."

"Heh heh you are still too afraid to face me on your own."

"I'm here for Haven. Not you."

He drew his weapon and took aim.

She took her weapon out in turn and it was then her inner beast stirred and Adam noticed the change but played it off.

"Heh you are still afraid and you should be. I've made powerful friends while you've been away."

"Oh yeah? Where?" asked Sun

"Tell me does Blake make all of her classmates fight for her?"

"It's more of a volunteer gig. I'm just saying, for all the friends you claim to have it seems there are not many willing to fight for you."

He looked around and saw that all of his people had surrendered.

"You can try and make me regret coming here Adam, but honestly I've got more important things to deal with."

Her inner beast was fighting to get out to rip this charlatan apart.

Adam made a last ditch effort to attack both of them and then he ran.

Sun went to follow, but Blake stopped him.

"Stop he will try to just pick us off. We need to protect the rest of the city and civilians. Besides now he can feel what it's like to run away."

Sun nodded.

"I'm sorry."

"Thank you."

"Everybody needs help now and again. I wish I had done things differently. Friends?

"Unlikely associates at best."

"I'll take it. I think you have some people over there that need your help."

They both nodded and then parted ways.

Her inner panther growled as she flipped through the air knocking Hazel down and placing her next to Weiss and Ruby.

"Are you ok?"

"Yes, I just thought that you were normally the quiet one."

She bared her canines.

"Not today!"

"Ok then Ruby what's the plan?"

"Checkmate!"

Author's Note:

I truly struggled with Blake's side of things and wanted to stay closer to cannon for a bit. I hope you guys like it! I always love reviews and I am currently working on the next chapter. Yang flows better for me so writing for her will be done sooner. Thank you to all who have stuck with me and especially for those who have taken the time to read this story and favorite and or follow it!
