Hi, everyone! I hope you all enjoy this story as much as I did while writing it. Please feel free to review, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Disclaimer: I don't own My Hero Academia or any of its characters. Mizuki, however, is my own creation.
Let's start with the story, shall we?*
Chapter 16
"Hey, did you watch the news last night? All the channels made a big deal out of the whole USJ incident," Kaminari said as he laid back in his chair, arms crossed behind his head, eye glancing at the redhead sitting behind him.
Eijiro nodded, surprised that they made such a big fuss about the whole situation. He had gotten home and didn't miss anything, the television blowing up with the news. The entire class was shown too, all except for Mizuki and Izuku who weren't there. Speaking of which…
"Can you blame them? The hero course that keeps pumping out pro heroes was attacked," Jiro stated as she twirled her earphone-lobe ear lobes with her index finger. Sero let out a sigh and lay on his crossed arms.
"Who knows what would've happened if the teachers hadn't come when they did…" Sero murmured, relieved and worried simultaneously while Mineta went off in the back, screaming in panic.
"Shut up! Be quiet, scum!" Katsuki snarled at the male, Izuku on the receiving end between the two. He swallowed thickly and then noticed Eijiro's dazed expression, his red eyes staring at the open desk.
Mizuki hadn't arrived and with Katsuki already there, they doubted that she would. He was shocked to know all the injuries she had sustained throughout the fight and it all felt unrealistic. He was surprised to even see her awake after the long surgery.
She had fought with everything she had, smirked in the most hopeless situation and pushed as far as she could go. Izuku was sure that not only was she physically tired, she was emotionally drained. The thought of almost…
He shook his head to get rid of his raging thoughts. No, she survived and that was all that mattered. Mizuki was strong and tough. She wouldn't let this get her down. After all, she was Katsuki's twin and with his normal aggressive mood, Izuku could tell that everything was going to be just fine.
"Mizuki-chan isn't coming to class today, is she? Ribbit," Tsuyu asked, tapping her finger on her chin as she stared at the empty seat. Ochaco frowned and shook her head. She had an idea that Mizuki was still resting.
Eijiro couldn't help but miss the ash blonde. Katsuki's usual outbursts weren't being shot down savagely, no one had been at the end of a sarcastic comment and her red eyes weren't there to stare space.
Her presence wasn't there and it left a small piece of him feeling hollow. He missed her liveliness and the way she would smirk with confidence. He had seen her the night before, the tiredness evident throughout the visiting time.
He felt his chest give a squeeze when he thought of her broken and bruised figure. She fought all the way against the villains and ended up with several fractures and almost brain damage. He hated the thought of her helplessness when she couldn't win and despite her usual demeanour, he knew that she must've been scared too.
Mizuki…
"Everyone! Morning homeroom is about to start!" Iida declared as he rushed into the classroom, his arms stretching out in front of the students. "Stop talking and take your seats!" He ordered, the entire class giving him blank stares.
"We're already in our seats. You're the only one who's not," Sero pointed out, the male's face overcome with shock. He gritted his teeth as he sat in his chair, angry at himself that he was the last one to be seated.
If it was Mizuki she would've probably laughed at him and teased him… Man… Eijiro let out a sigh, a few eyes glancing at him. He was completely down in the dumps and only a few could tell the reason why.
The door slid open. "Morning," Aizawa greeted as he walked in, his worn-out appearance with his bandages making everyone recall what happened. Though, he seemed to be fine, only his arms bandaged up.
"Before you start asking me unnecessary questions." Iida stopped his hand from going up. "The fight isn't over yet," Aizawa said and everyone stood on the edge. Fight? Was the Villains going to attack them again?
"The U.A. sports festival is drawing near."
"The sports festival! That's a super normal school event!" Eijiro exclaimed with the rest of the class, his excitement boiling. It was quickly diminished when he looked to his side to expect Mizuki's smug smirk, but she wasn't there.
"Wait a minute, is it okay to have a sports festival so soon after the villains snuck inside? What if they attack us again or something…?" Jiro pointed out, some of the students nodding in agreement, unsure of what to think about the situation.
"Apparently, they think of it as U.A. showing that our crisis management system is solid as a rock by holding the event. Security will also be strengthened to five times that of the previous years. Above all, our sports festival is a huge chance. It's not an event to be cancelled because of a few villains," Aizawa said.
"Mm? Did someone say sports festival?" Ash blonde hair came into view as a familiar female stepped inside the classroom, everyone's eyes widening. Aizawa glanced to his side, blinking at the bandaged female.
"Mizuki-san! You came!"
Mizuki grinned from ear to ear, her crimson eyes recharged and filled with confidence and pride. She was still bandaged up, her arms and head covered as well as her middle. Luckily, her legs were mostly injury free, only suffering from the slight overheat.
"You're late."
Mizuki chuckled at Aizawa's tone. "Sorry about that. I had a few errands to attend to. I'll be sure not to let it happen again," Mizuki said and he grunted. She went to sit down on her seat, her brother looking her over before grunting in satisfaction.
Mizuki sighed, happy that she was in class and finally seated. The morning was way too rough on her. Firstly, she had a check-up from the doctor and afterwards she had an awfully long and dragged out interrogation from the police. Not to mention the scolding session from her parents.
Mizuki caught sight of Eijiro's gaze and smirked. She gave him a wink, the male briefly caught off guard before he grinned. The day turned out much better than he had expected it to. He honestly thought she wasn't coming to class.
"As I was saying, our sports festival is one of Japan's biggest events. In the past, the Olympics were called a festival of sports and the whole country was crazy about them. As you know, with reductions in scale and population. They're now a shell of their former glory. And now, for Japan, what has taken the place of those Olympics is the U.A. sports festival," Aizawa stated.
"Of course. all of the top heroes around the country will be watching for scouting purposes," Momo added, her face filled with sudden determination. Mizuki smirked, the thought of the pro heroes watching thrilling.
"After we graduate, it's typical to join a pro agency as a sidekick," Kaminari explained with a bright grin, holding up his thumb. Mizuki lazily listened to what he was saying, finding it strange that such an idiot knew that much.
"A lot of people miss their chance to become independent after that and become eternal sidekicks, though," Jiro said and then looked at the blonde male. "Kaminari, I feel like you'd be one of them. Since you're dumb." His expression was priceless and it made Mizuki's day.
"Joining a famous hero agency will get you more experience and popularity. Time is limited. If you expect to go pro, then the path to your future will open up at this event," Aizawa continued, the ash blonde twins riling each other up with a mere glance.
"One chance a year - a total of just three chances. No aspiring heroes can afford to miss this event. If you understand that, then don't slack off on your preparations! Homeroom is dismissed!" He ended and then walked out without another word.
The rest of the day went on normal with the teachers giving each their different subjects. It was quite the normal boring day and Mizuki wouldn't want it any other way. She was upset when the possibility came for her to not come to class.
Yet, even if she was able to continue with her classes, she wasn't allowed to do any strenuous activities. It meant that she wasn't going to be able to train until a week before the sports festival. She was allowed to run short distances and let off small explosions but that was it.
It was going to be a pain since everyone else was going to train incredibly hard while she had a setback. Then again, she found it exhilarating. It made the challenge all the more exciting. She wasn't going to let them get ahead of her. She was still going to become stronger.
She let out a breath when lunch arrived with the school bell that rang. She stretched slightly and enjoyed the relief as the stiffness went away. It was the most prominent symptom so far, besides her irregular nausea.
"Hey, Katsuki, Mom told me to give you this. She said you left it at home," Mizuki said as she gave the male a small brown bag that held his lunch. Katsuki snatched the bag out of her hand, a vein popping out from her head at his rudeness.
"Whatever." He was as good as dead. "Why were you late anyway? Did you want to make a flashy entrance like that? Don't get too cocky, Mizuki," Katsuki scowled at his sister, her hand slamming onto his table with sparks appearing in the palm of her hand.
"Listen here, Asshole. Firstly, you don't even have the decency to say, 'thank you' and then you have the nerve to think I came late on purpose. You just want to get me angry today," Mizuki growled out at the male, her deadly aura seeping out from her.
"M-Mi-chan, c-calm d-down…" Izuku tried and only received a look that made him yelp and swallow thickly. Too late. There was nothing he could do to make her anger better. Katsuki already pushed her buttons too much.
Katsuki smirked, his own palms sparking. "Come and get me, Mizuki. I'll take you on here and now," Katsuki told her, Mizuki's eyes narrowing on his red eyes. The tension in the classroom increased as sparks appeared between the twins.
Everyone in the classroom swallowed thickly at the scene, no one daring to interfere especially after Izuku tried. It was very dangerous. If they started to fight, then it would mean a catastrophe. They would destroy the entire classroom. Where were the teachers when they needed them?!
Mizuki then smirked and sat down on her brother's desk. "Challenge accepted, Little Brother," Mizuki said, a gleam of mischief flashing in her eyes. Katsuki gave her a challenging grin, his gaze not backing away.
What…just happened?
"Oh, by the way, you have to carry my bag for me," Mizuki told the ash blonde male his temper flaring angrily at her. Eyes shifted between the two twins, no one in the class sure of what had occurred.
"Hah?! Why me?! Carry your own bag, Lazy Ass!"
"Isn't it obvious?! You want your poor sister carrying her bag on her own after she's practically bandaged up like a mummy!" Mizuki yelled at her brother, the twins pulling at each other's hair comically.
The entire class gave up, not understanding the two at all. One moment they were about to kill each other and blow up everything in their way and the next they were bickering normally. Or at least, it seemed normal.
"Hmph, fine! I'll carry your stupid bag!" Katsuki grumbled out and crossed his arms over his chest, his eyes averting to the side. Mizuki smiled and hugged his head against her, the male blushing and cursing at her.
"Is it just me or are they acting a lot more intimately than normal…?" Ochaco asked as she came in next to Izuku, her eyes wide as she stared at the twins. Izuku smiled softly, a warmth spreading through his chest.
"This is how they normally are." She gave him a look of disbelief. "No, I'm serious. They don't usually show it in public but this is how they normally are. This is usually Mi-chan's way to get rid of any tension or unresolved matters," Izuku explained to the brown-haired female.
"I didn't expect them to act like siblings… You know, since they're both…" Ochaco trailed off and caused both her and Izuku to sweat drop. They both knew exactly what she wanted to say and completely understood each other.
Izuku laughed and shook his head. He knew this side of Mizuki very well and how they interacted. They had a friendly competition that pushed them beyond their limits but they also had each other's backs, protecting and standing up for one another.
Neither of them held back when it came to criticism on the other and Mizuki was quick to tap her brother on his fingers when he was wrong. Katsuki would fight it out rather than saying anything. He had other methods to get his point across and a lot of people misunderstood it.
"You're really a pain in the ass not to have in class," Katsuki said and Mizuki raised an eyebrow. "That four-eyed idiot yelled at everyone to sit down before homeroom and you had Shitty Hair look like a stupid lost puppy. It's annoying."
Mizuki blinked in wonder at her brother's words. She expected him to miss her, the male too bashful to say anything about it. She knew him better than he wanted her to. However, she hadn't expected the same for Eijiro.
She caught sight of the redhead as he yelled out in excitement for the festival that was coming up. She could hear Katsuki's words in her mind and briefly imagined him as a spiky, red haired little Pomeranian. It was cute beyond what she could endure.
Strange, he was merely another student she met before the entrance exam. She didn't think much of him and his gentleman behaviour. He had kind eyes and wanted nothing more than to be able to help everyone.
When did it start to change? When did she start to think differently? When did she start to notice that she wanted her day to start with his smile? When did she start to feel her heart fluttering when he neared?
"…don't let me wait for too long, Red."
Ah, that was right. It all became clear the moment they started to talk about what they aspired to be. It was at that moment that she saw the beauty of his determination and admired the righteousness of his dream.
Mizuki let out a huff and ran a hand through her hair. Her gaze moved towards the ceiling, her arms steadying her on her brother's desk. Katsuki eyes his sister sceptically, wondering what was going through her head.
"It's no good. I think I fell hard," Mizuki said, laughing breathlessly at her own statement. Katsuki's eyes widened at her statement. For some strange and odd reason, he knew exactly what she was referring to.
Katsuki looked behind him, catching Ochaco as she yelled out that she was going to do her best, her behaviour completely bizarre. His eyes landed on Eijiro as he gave the female a perplexed expression, a nervous laugh leaving him.
She likes Shitty Hair?
"Oh, Shoto, I'm glad to see you," Mizuki spoke up, gaining his attention once again. Shoto stood halfway passed them, his eyes looking blankly towards Mizuki. He felt his mood sour at the male's presence, still upset that he was the one to carry his sister.
"I want to say thank you for your help with everything. I heard from everyone that you were the one who kept my temperature under control. I owe you one!" Mizuki said with her usual smile and the male nodded.
"I don't expect anything in return. As long as I was able to help," Shoto said and then walked off without another word. Mizuki eyed him and a chuckle escaped her lips. For someone who seemed to not care about anything, his small smile gave him away.
He stopped his advance towards the door, Mizuki cocking her head to the side in confusion at his sudden halt. There was an exclamation from the side and Mizuki noticed the mass of students standing by the door.
The students were pushing against each other to get a look at everyone in the class, Mizuki immediately annoyed. Katsuki scoffed, standing up and slinging his bag over his shoulder. He walked over towards Mizuki's chair and slung her bag over his other shoulder.
"What business do you have with Class A?" Iida asked as Mizuki climbed off the table, her brows knitting together. The sports festival was around the corner, they weren't here to greet. They were here to scout.
"We can't get out! What'd you come here for anyway?!" Mineta yelled towards the students, his words not giving it much effect because of his small posture. Katsuki scoffed and walked past him as he stood next to Izuku.
"Scouting out the enemy, small fry," Katsuki stated plainly as he pissed off the smaller male, Mizuki chuckling in amusement. "We're the ones who made it out of the villains' attack. They probably wanna check us out before the sports festival." Mizuki walked to join his side.
Katsuki stopped in front of the crowd of people, causing them to give a small step back as they were intimidated by his presence. "There's no point in doing stuff like that. Out of my way, extras!" Katsuki snapped, glaring at them.
"Stop calling people 'extras' just because you don't know them!" Iida scolded the ash blonde as he robotically waved his arm in the air. Mizuki gave him an unimpressed gaze, Izuku and Ochaco paling at the twins' attitudes.
"I came to see what the famous Class A was like, but you seem pretty arrogant." A young man with messy, indigo-coloured hair that flared out in large tuffs around his head. His eyes were dark purple and only half-open with very dark eye bags.
"Are all the students in the hero course like this? Seeing something like this makes me disillusioned." Katsuki growled while the rest of the class shook their heads drastically. Mizuki cocked her head to the side, her eyebrow raising as she felt her brother's anger light a fire within her.
"There are quite a few people who enrolled in general studies or other courses because they didn't make it into the hero course. Did you know that? The school has left those of us a chance. Depending on the results of the sports festival, they'll consider our transfer into the hero course. And it seems they may also transfer people out," he said.
"Scouting out the enemy? I, at least, came to say that even if you're in the hero course, if you get too carried away, I'll sweep your feet out from under you. I came with a declaration of war," he stated and Mizuki smirked.
He had balls.
"Hey, hey! I'm from Class B next door!" Another male yelled out. His hair was quite long, messy and grey hair, his eyes were each lined with a very thick, jagged, tan-coloured eyelashes and he had sharp pointed teeth.
"I heard you fought against villains, so I came to hear 'bout it! Don't get full of yourself! If you bark too much, it'll be embarrassing for you durin' the real fight!" He shouted loudly, both twins just staring at him. Neither one of them was fazed by his yelling and neither did they care.
Katsuki went to walk, ignoring him and Mizuki followed him. The newcomer yelled out something once again but cut himself off, the ash blonde female relieved. He was starting to hurt her ears and she didn't want to use her Quirk with her bandages.
The grey-haired male stared at Mizuki's figure, his face flushing at her presence. He found himself at a loss for words at her beauty and well sculptured body. He was instantly crushing on her, his heartbeat skyrocketing while she ignored him.
"Wait a minute, Bakugou! What're you gonna do about all of this? It's your fault that everyone's hating on us!" Eijiro pointed out as he came into view. Mizuki glanced at the redhead and then back to her brother.
He's going to say something cool again.
"It doesn't matter," Katsuki said, confusing everyone at his statement. "It doesn't matter as long as you rise to the top." His words had everyone speechless as the reality of it sank in, Izuku's eyes briefly widened.
Damn it, Katsuki, you're so cool.
Mizuki kept her facial expression impassive as Katsuki started to walk. She chuckled and followed him through the crowd, not saying anything. After all, she didn't have anything to add, especially since she didn't want to spoil it.
Mizuki eyed her brother as they came through the crowd and then gave him a smug grin. "Look at you, acting all badass, Mr. Explodo-kill," Mizuki teased her brother, nudging him with her elbow and made him blush lightly.
"Shut up. It's why we're here. We're not here to sit back and breeze through. We're here to become the top. I told you, didn't I? This is where I'm going to be number one," he pointed out and Mizuki hummed.
"Yeah, I know."
Mizuki was calm about the whole situation. Standing down had never been part of her or her brother's dictionary. The thought of either one of them dropping out wasn't a reality. The only reality was to reach the top.
Nevertheless, Mizuki would have to be patient with her training. She would come to a standard where she wanted to be soon enough. After the fighting against the villains, she had realized one painful thing. She needed to become physically stronger and she needed to develop her Quirk.
"I'm not allowed to train or do anything drastic in the next week." Katsuki frowned deeply, Mizuki pointing at him with her index finger. "BUT! Don't even think for one moment that I'll let you get ahead of me!" She warned him.
"Mizuki." His voice was stern, her eyes widening. "Don't do anything stupid at this festival. I don't want to see you like that ever again. I want you to stay by my side. I can't protect you if you run off," Katsuki said, Mizuki staring at her brother in amazement.
His crimson eyes didn't waver one bit. He was being sincere and honest. He never wanted to have her in danger ever again and the thought of her fighting a Villain without him being there made his stomach churn.
Mizuki smirked and then hit him on the back. "What's with that? You're freaking me out being so honest about your emotions! It's not fair… It's not fair that you're being this amazing… Leave some room for me too!" Mizuki playfully told him and he snorted.
"Yeah, right," Katsuki muttered and pocketed his hands. He wasn't going to tell her about all the impressive achievements she received. The approval of the class, Class Representative, winning against a recommendation student and fighting Villains to help a pro hero. He didn't expect anything less from his sister, but he wasn't going to let her pass him either.
He was going to be number one.
