Chapter 12: The Shoals
Tekkadan and the Turbines were thinking about how they should deal with the Brewers. Those pirates were able to find them but not the other way around, meaning that they somehow knew about Tekkadan's route as well as escorting Kudelia. So, the plan for now was to wait for the Brewers to make their move, which Amida predicted would take place in the Debris Zone. Mikazuki's Barbatos with boosters and Lafter's Kyakuri with extended flight range will move in ahead as scouts, Kenji's Phoenix will also go with them. Since Phoenix is designed for speed and mobility, it doesn't really need any attachments for this scenario. This is because using long range machines will confuse the Brewers' sense of distance, making them think that the Isaribi and the Hammerhead are right behind them. But they will actually ambush them from the side.
Kenji and Mikazuki were suiting up for their flight, then Akihiro shows up.
"You two are going first, right?" Akihiro asked.
"Yes." Both Mikazuki and Kenji said.
"When they come out... and if my younger brother is there..." Akihiro hesitated. "If Masahiro is there, then..."
"We know." Mikazuki said.
"We'll try out best not to kill him until you get there." Kenji added.
"Guys..." Akihiro started but was interrupted.
"But, if I'm getting beaten, then I can't promise you. I mean... I'm sorry, but..." Mikazuki had difficulty trying to explain to Akihiro.
"Yeah... I know." Akihiro said.
"Masahiro must've been with them for a long time by now, I don't know what he's been through, but I hope your words can reach him." Kenji said.
"Me too..." Akihiro said.
In the hangar bay, Kenji was getting ready to board Phoenix, he even stored his katana and knife in the cockpit just in case. He noticed that Atra and Kudelia were giving Mikazuki a box lunch. Kenji smiled at the sight.
"Mikazuki is lucky, I wish Almiria would bring me a box lunch as well..." Kenji immediately slapped both sides of his face. "Focus, Kenji, focus, you're going out to engage the enemy."
Barbatos went out first, then it was Phoenix's turn. Kenji joined up with Mikazuki and Lafter, Barbatos already had its booster attached.
"It's just us for a while. Let's do this, Mikazuki and Kenji." Lafter said from her transmission.
"Sorry to get you involved in this." Mikazuki said.
"Don't worry about it. Aren't both of you rescuing Akihiro's brother? If I hear that, I can't just leave you alone." Lafter said.
"We just need to buy Akihiro enough time to get there and speak with Masahiro, hopefully his words will be enough." Kenji said.
After some time in flight, Lafter started speaking. "We'll enter the corridor soon."
"So it's not like a tunnel." Mikazuki said.
"You can't see it with the naked eye." Lafter explained.
"I don't really understand the science behind it, but it has something to do with interference generated by Ahab Reactors left in this area." Kenji tried to explain.
"Tunnel..." Mikazuki said.
"What are you doing?" Lafter saw Mikazuki writing the word tunnel through a camera. "I see..."
"Really Mikazuki? You're practicing spelling tunnel right now?" Kenji asked. "There is a time and place to practice reading and writing. This is not one of them."
"Communication with the ship will be cut soon." Lafter announced.
Eventually the three of them could see nothing but debris all around them.
"Look at this place, no wonder the Brewers would choose this place as an ambush point." Kenji said.
"Okay, we should be close to the point." Lafter said.
"I can't see anything." Mikazuki said.
"That's kind of the idea..." Kenji pointed out.
"Watch out. They can find us anytime now." Lafter warned.
Their radars started to detect something.
"They're here." Mikazuki said.
"Here we go." Kenji said.
The enemy mobile suits started to fire on them. Mikazuki, Kenji, and Lafter split up. Two Mobile suits followed Mikazuki, one of them being Masahiro, and the other two followed Kenji and Lafter.
"It's so cramped. It's hard to move." Lafter complained.
"You could say that again." Kenji agreed.
Both Kenji and Lafter were being fired upon by two enemy mobile suits.
"Isn't my darling here yet?" Lafter asked.
"Give Uncle Naze time, Lafter." Kenji said.
At that moment, the Isaribi arrived with the Hammerhead in tow.
"Orga." Mikazuki said.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Mika." Orga said.
"You're so late." Lafter said.
"Nice of you to join the party Uncle Naze, Lafter was starting to miss you." Kenji said.
The Hammerhead went charging full speed at the Brewers ship, hitting it head on.
Kenji smiled. "Another reminder on why it's called the Hammerhead."
The Isaribi then latched onto the Brewers ship, with flying Mobile Workers coming out to board the enemy ship.
"Good luck guys. Now to deal with these Mobile Suits." Kenji said.
Akihiro, Amida, and Azee soon launched in their Mobile Suits to assist with the ambush. Mikazuki got out of his booster, ready for combat. Kenji took out his sub machine guns.
"Keep an eye out for the Mobile Suit wielding that hammer. Azee, earlier you said it was similar to Barbatos and Phoenix, so it has to be a Gundam Frame." Kenji warned.
Then he noticed the enemy Mobile Suit leading the other Mobile Suits to the Isaribi.
"They're attacking your ship." Amida warned.
"I'll go." Mikazuki said.
"Me too." Kenji said.
"I'll go cover for Hammerhead. Lafter, Azee. Back up Akihiro." Amida ordered.
Mikazuki and Kenji both got to the Isaribi and started to engage the attacking Mobile Suits. Kenji saw the Mobile Suit with the hammer.
"Watch it Mikazuki, that thing has got to be a Gundam Frame like Barbatos and Phoenix." Kenji warned.
"Leave him to me, cover me." Mikazuki ordered.
Kenji nodded. "Got it."
Mikazuki managed to take out two Mobile Suits before going after the leader while Kenji got two other Mobile Suits to chase him.
"Time for a little dogfighting. If these guys really are Human Debris and Masahiro's friends, I better avoid killing them." Kenji thought.
Kenji was able to keep them chasing while firing back, when they got close, he switched to his sword. Parrying their attacks while disarming them.
"Stay down if you want to live." Kenji ordered.
Kenji then noticed that one Mobile Suit was holding Akihiro still, allowing the Mobile Suit leader to approach them with his hammer out. Kenji realized who it was. "What the heck is Masahiro doing to his brother? I've got to help them."
Kenji started fly towards them, just when it looked like the leader was going to hit Akihiro, Masahiro pushed his brother out of the way, taking the hit himself. Kenji couldn't believe his eyes. "Oh no..."
Akihiro screamed out. "Masahiro!"
