12. Radio Birthed Nostalgia and she was Dancing By Herself
Levi was in the living room doing her group project homework via online chat and Sebastian was at work. He offered Marley to stay in his room and listen to music whilst Levi offered her room to watch movies on her computer. If it weren't raining, Marley would just sit outside and enjoy the weather. She was missing Glee club so she decided to go into Sebastian's room and dance around for a while.
He had a nice room. Similar to Blaine's room back in Lima but plaid bed sheets and beige colored walls instead of blue. The window gave natural light to the room and made it seem real. She found his stash of CD's that read the name Sebastian Playlist # followed by the number. From what she found, Sebastian had at least thirty of these CD's that he made for himself.
She danced. Free dance, Glee competition dance routines, silly dances, ballet dances that Mike Chang taught her when he visited in November. The music ranged in different styles that she expected from the Warbler and then some not expected from the Warbler. She spun and twirled around the room being as careful as she could to not bump and break anythi—
"Ugh!"
Too late. Marley knocked herself into one of his bookshelves and everything scrambled down to the floor. "Shoot!" She muttered. Marley got down to her knees and began picking up the books that had fallen. Thin movies were also on the floor and she didn't think much of them until she picked up one thin boxed DVD and saw the front photo; Two men kissing and...entwined together. She blushed rapid red and practically threw the DVD onto the shelf. "Come on Marley. Don't be weird like that. Smexy videos are normal." She reminded herself as she kept putting the books back on the shelf. She picked up a few more books and DVDS when, once again, she picked up a thinned box DVD and saw, instead, two topless women kissing. She threw that too onto the book shelf. "Gay men watching lesbian born?" She asked aloud.
Unless...That would make more sense.
Marley danced around a little bite more. Enjoying the beats and tunes of the music from the stereo and singing along to some of her favorites. A feeling came over her that brought out the little girl in her. Without thinking completely all through Marley picked up a coat rack with a navy blazer dangled on it and began dancing with a partner. Her father, in specific. She missed dancing with him.
Marley needed to get out of here after four hours of doing nothing but dancing, singing and writing down a few notes for her songs. She needed to go somewhere that was busy. She had some money left on her so she decided to go back to Times Square herself and just walk around for a while, then get a ride home. She threw on her pink sweater and grey jeans and took a spare cell phone with her that already had the house number, Levi's number and Sebastian's number and left.
She followed a route that lead her to walk for thirty minutes to downtown Times Square. The streets were still freeloading with various and vast majority of natives and tourist. She could get lost if she weren't paying attention to what she was closely but the colossal sized billboards made it terribly difficult to get lost in Times Square.
She loved it. Way too much.
She strolled up and down various main streets studying the clothes in the stores and admiring the beautiful designs. Something only to admire from Marley Rose. She felt at ease looking at them yet upset that she couldn't afford anything like this. Not unless she cheated and cut the label out and sew it onto one of her regular clothes from Walmart or donation boxes. She stepped inside one store to study the hand bangs and feel the material and listened to the radio station play over. Musix 143. She wondered, possibly, where the radio show broadcast from.
She used the phone and found where Musix 143 broadcast. Not too far from the store actually. She followed the directions to one vastly large building, at least over a hundred floors maximum, so Marley guessed that this was a building where various jobs worked under but independently. She found the floor for the radio station, walked to the elevator and pressed the appropriate button to reach her destination.
It wasn't a large floor. It didn't seem to be busy like other floors appeared based on from what the blue eyed Ohio native was able to see from the opened elevator doors per floor, but the level wasn't terribly busy either.
The second that Marley Rose stepped off the elevator, nostalgia stitched itself onto her skin. The perfume of radio shows had an old cigar smell that entered her nose, though it was no longer the thirties or forties or even the fifties and cigarette cigar smoking inside a building was no longer smiled upon. The history of smoking inside buildings lingered like ghost who had not moved on from their place of passing. Historical smoke from famous radio show hosts and guest stayed within the walls of this floor, this building. The heavy smoke danced its way into Marley's nose and brought back the wistfulness memories of little Marley sitting on a chair watching radio host talk into their microphones and, every so often, a singer come into the studio and sing a song. Her eyes danced when she visualized the magical notes leaving the singers mouth. Marley touched the walls of the building and felt the sentimental soul within her ache for a minute of time when it was just little Chicago born and raised Marley inside a radio station with the healthy, fun loving and adoring father that she missed for so long. Her heart tenderly caressed her soul to ease the homesickness she had of her Chicago hometown and father. Her toes gracefully danced down the hall even though it was talk radio now instead of music.
She paused when she reached one window that faced into the room where radio hosts were having their conversation. They were talking about the upcoming Funny Girl show and talked a little bit about the casts. The universe gripped it hands onto the corners of Marley's mouth and gently pulled them upwards to reveal her inner emotions.
"I heard that the Ohio girl, Rochelle Barry, is a huge fan of the OG Fanny."
"Probably as sweet as the OG Fanny actress too."
Marley sighed. "Door slammer is more like it." She commented.
"I heard she's a big show-off from where she comes."
"That's what she said." Marley laughed to herself. She spotted a wooden chair and sat herself in it to keep watching the show comfortably.
The radio show hosts (Allen and Leonard) kept speaking for several moments before taking a break from their conversation to play a boatload of music for their listeners. They took off their headphones and kicked back so Marley took that as a cue to leave now. She got up and began leaving to the elevators when she was forced to stop by a voice.
"Hey kid!" She whipped around and saw one of the host, Allen, was waving at her. "Yeah, brunette."
Leonard called next to her. "How's the show so far? Any feed back?" She shook her head. "Aw, come on. Just one thing. We love when guest give us advise."
"Yeah. Just use the pad and paper on the table there and write it down." Allen pointed in the direction of where the pad would be. "Come on, even if its just a emoji face."
Marley gawked at the paper and pad for a minute. The guys kept pestering about to write something down. Her hand automatically began writing something down and she hadn't realized what she wrote until she finished. She read it over then flipped the bad over to present to the show.
Live singers.
"What? Like from a lounge or whatever?" Allen laughed. "Hey Leonard, lets find one at the bar tonight. One broad who's shit wasted and get her into the station."
"Allen, you're a complete idiot."
They kept arguing and making light jokes back and forth to one another. Marley used the time to quickly leave before either man said a word to her.
She spun down the hallway like a little girl in a big flowly skirt and danced her way down to the elevator. She pressed and waited for the golden doors to open. They did and she got onto the elevator alone. She waited until the doors were closed before speaking. "If that was you finding a way to bring me here, thank you."
